This is a haunted hostel, and I saw with my own eyes strange things, such as I saw a dog in a room that is not there, in fact, a child hits a window hard while he slept, terrified night

Excellent Hostel. The cavern downstairs is pretty nice addition to it. Good place to meet people from around the world. Well equipped kitchen (no conventional oven though) with all the utensils etc. They conduct daily free activities and tours from the hostel. Shout out to Charlotte for her good work. Keep it up. Instead of regular lockers, you only get a electronic safe, so you cannot secure the whole bag if you wanted. For the price and the prime location in downtown with 5 min to king station subway, this place is the best.

In overall a good hostel. The prices were cheap compared to other places in the city. Location is awesome, walking distance to many sightseeing locations and 5 min walk to metro. Dorm room was a bit small, but I guess that's expected. The cleanness was OK. There are quite large safes in the rooms so you can fit a lot of stuff. Breakfast was amazing.

Presently I have been staying at the Hi hostel! However it was closed temporarily and made into a shelter so I've been getting to enjoy a prolonged stay and there's only me and an additional roommate. However I've learned that this place used to allow many wonderful people from across the world to visit Toronto, one of the residents said he used to stay here actually a few of them said that but you're only allowed 10 days per year apparently and it was like around just under $30 per night but you had to share your room with about six people in bunk beds! They have nice mattresses but low head clearance on the bed so you get a neck cramp and there are mini safes on the walls... So in the end it's a pretty decent place and the reputation stands for itself that the staff that managed these facilities always do their best to provide good service no matter the situation or time of year so we want to thank the hostel organization for giving people affordable housing as they travel and stay safe across the world. 🌎🌍🌏🇨🇦✌️🥰👏🏆🖖

Stayed here a few times over the last few years. Rooms are decent. Staff are great and friendly. Food is nice! The Cavern is great! Live music. Travellers are friendly here too from all over the world easy to make friends and have a chat. Location is great not far from the Train St. Very easy to walk around Toronto from here if you're a tourist. Definitely reccomend backpackers and tourists to stay here if they're staying in Toronto for a few days. Genuinely one of the best Hostels I've ever stayed at.

This was the second trip that I've stayed in the HI hostel, and I don't have a single negative thing to say. For a solo traveller wanting to meet people and party, this is perfect. I made friends for life here! The breakfast is good for the cost, rooms are ideal and staff are friendly and sociable. I'll be back for sure!!

I stayed on a 4 bedroom coed. The room had enough space to move and leave your begs. There was a private bathroom in the room. The curtains block much of the sunlight. The overall cleanness was okay. The night desk was a little small and they had usb outlets along with the normal ones for each bed. Although the breakfast is limited for one person per day, it comes in a good size and taste. The kitchen was fine, but there wasn't many table to sit around. Public and quiet space was an issue; they have a bar in the basement so there's live music almost everyday plus the lobby is always playing music and there's people coming and going. The only other place you could go is the rooftop, which they close at night and depending in the weather might not be an option. The staff are super friendly and willing to help.

Inexpensive alternative. Took a private room with a shower (no bathtub). Clean sheets. Nice fluffy towels. Personal heater with thermostat. Coffee machine in the room. The breakfast was amazing. You get to choose from the Cavern restaurant in the basement. I was pleasantly surprised how the quality exceeded my expectations. Very friendly service as well!

This was my first hostel experience, and I was very impressed. The rooms were clean, showers were good, laundry facilities were convenient, and there was free breakfast included. My only complaint is that the mattress had collapsed a bit in the middle. However you can't beat the price!

Nice service, loved the pub downstairs! Big room in comparison to people, including own personal locker for valuable items. Bed was not the best, even for a hostel, had better experiences. Good for short stays. Took part at 2 events which were nice, they offer something every day.

Great hostel! The bar downstairs has good food and good beer, as well as good bands during the weekend. The breakfast is excellent. The lounge area is filled with interesting books, the staff is super friendly and helpful, the kitchen is big, airy, and clean. It also includes everything you need to cook a meal as well as a "serve yourself" common shelf where people leave the stuff they don't want to carry when they leave. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained, I've seen cleaning crew often, and I've never had a problem even if they were mixed. The rooms are great; the bed is comfortable and the locker for your bed is a numeric one with a combination you can choose yourself easily. The hostel had deals with a few places so you can go to Niagara falls for a day for cheap, etc. Very good hostel, highly recommend it

Dorms were clean albeit a little tight, service was very nice. The Cavern was very cool and had a small selection of beers and an good cocktail menu. Continental breakfast in the morning but that was ok with me. Highly recommend stopping here if you're passing by.

The whole vibe of the place was great. Staff were down-to-earth and enthusiastic. 10-bed guys rooms was surprisingly fresh and cool. Regular caveats of hostel-living apply, but I feel for the price and the experience this is just what I was looking for.

Great Hostel! The rooms are a bit small, but get cleaned everyday. Same goes for the bathrooms and the rest of the hostel. The location of the hostel is perfect for exploring the city. Almost any major attraction is within a small walking distance. The Breakfast is included for your stay. When checking in you'll get a certain amount of vouchers which you can redeem at the Cavern Bar down in the basement for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. The staff at the front desk is super helpful and will solve almost any problem you have. I'd definetely stay there again. Keep up the great work!

The hostel is nice with really good amenities. I would have given a zero stars but I am giving the one star for the hostel building itself and one star for the staff doing cleaning and maintenance work. The reason behind removing other stars is the quality of customer service and behavior of their staff at the front desk except the managers. I have stayed in various places around the globe ranging from hostels to some really good hotels. The front desk staff are rude and sometimes arrogant feeling privileged being on the other side of the counter. Someone need to really train them for customer service and hospitality. The staff lies frequently about the availability of the rooms. The system at Hi hostel website might show that the room is available but they will say they don't have any available if you try to walk in. Whenever the managers are there the environment at front desk is pleasant with smooth check in process. The membership is another way to rip off people as they will restrict your stay to 14 days whenever they want and will threaten you if you end up staying longer or sometimes will behave as if they are doing a favor to you while you are paying like everyone else. It will start feeling like as if they are running a government within a small building. The 14 days policy is no where to find written any where in the hostel website or any other place. I hope the management can see this response and provide some customer training to the front desk staff teaching them on how to treat Guests as Guests.

Quite professionally managed hostel located in downtown Toronto. Rates are cheap, of course, and you've shared facilities (kitchen, dining area, lounge, toilet & bathroom) but it's all clean. The downstairs Cavern is easily the best thing here. Definitely a good budget accommodation in the best possible location.

Everything is explained to you fairly simple.. However, behind the scenes majority of STAFF doNOT honor ( in the bare Minimum) Shelter Standards , instead majority of attention is focused on inventing new and cruel lies on residents, in order to twist the image of a residents character while maintaining the image they believe they have, and truely but effortlessly abuseing authority to the MAXIMUM everyday, behaving like Narrcisists Socipaths and bad Actors/ActresseS. - Gudgeing by the atmosphere and the Peer-Assisted CULTS staff belong to within the Shelter, there’s a distinct tension in the air between the differentiating styles and methods of Shelter Staff criteria, causing ahi Hostel to further operate like a GOVERNMENT in a Small Building. -The main goal is.. EACH body = MONEY in they’re pocketS (Like Correctional Officers and Inmates in a Institution), ;GOALS are they’re quota$, Weather you are getting back on youre feet, young, elderly, or severely mentally ill, that is not of concern. -Housing, well-being, drugs, alcohol, murder, is not of concern here, unless the issues somehow revolve around STAFF possibly facing termination, than the matters become ‘SERIOUS’ and are discussed by having a meeting to cover they’re BUTTS! -Meanwhile, the Board Of Directors are aware of these receptively unprofessional “Toronto Staff”. HAPPY HOLIDAYS, - Product Of a Trudeau Government

This places provides all the essentials, and the other guests were polite and friendly. I stayed in one of the larger dorms, but I had virtually no disruptions during my visit. The breakfast provided was also healthy and delicious, and the staff members were helpful. It's a great deal for exploring Toronto, but I wouldn't recommend taking a car. Parking is expensive in the area, and everything is easily accessible on foot or by public transportation.

The location of this hostel is great. You are right in the middle of downtown. Staff was efficient and knowledge. The rooms are clean and air-conditioning. You get beanbag with the room and is a full breakfast not just toast or cereal. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for two nights and I have to say it was an excellent stay. The staff was kind and accomodating, the rooms were clean and cozy, each bed had a decent locker for protecting your valuables, and the downstairs bar is well priced and provides free breakfast for each day of your stay. The bar also provides live music and a space to meet other people staying the hostel. I met some interesting people and everyone was very friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Perfect location for the hostel. Everything is nearby. Stayed for over a duration of 3 weeks and I loved it. Breakfast was really good. Loved the ambiance. Staff was very friendly. Cleanliness should be rated 10/10. Would surely recommend this hostel.

HI Toronto Hostel has all the amenities that you'd expect. There is even a bar in the basement for both guests and the larger community. The hostel is ideally located to most of what downtown Toronto has to offer.
