Hauled a single origin Brazilian roast Americano on the commute to work. I always wanted to try this joint, I love the vibe and the artwork and quirky vibe always drew me in. Overall, good coffee but not earth moving compared to others but still a great place to grab a yummy cup of joe from a deserving local business with great grass roots of Toronto. I really wanted one of their reusable thermos but 65 bucks is wayyy more than steep and completely unrealistic but I really dig their logo. The server was a super nice lady and really knew her stuff about sourcing of beans and flavor of coffee to make phenomenal recommendations. Support local businesses!

Instead of going to Starbucks or Tim Hortons, support local shops! Good vibes, good coffee :)

I came here to buy some beans for my espresso machine at home and WOW. I am absolutely blown away by the quality of their beans. I’ve been using very cheap beans up until now and I did not realize just how dramatic the change would be. Best tasting coffee I’ve ever made at home. The staff was also incredible and helpful while picking which type of bean would be best for me. Thank you for the great service and products!!

Really good coffee. Tasty pastries too. The staff are pretty friendly. There is a bit of seating and a nice comfy couch.

Cute casual coffee shop on busy Queen Street West! Great space, but not too much seating. Prefer grabs and go. Fantastic staff members here!

What a great spot! First, AMAZING drip coffee. The strength caught me off guard, in a good way. The staff is lovely and made me toast w jam (even though i don’t think it wad on the menu). I loved the comfy couch, there are so many coffee places that are just 100% stools or hard surfaces. Great place to just read your book.

It wasn’t the best coffee ever, in fact, one of the worst. My spouse and I ordered two 8oz drip coffee and it tasted very burnt and the cream that came with it was sour. Felt like drinking sour milk so after three sips, we threw it away.

One of my favourite coffee shops downtown. Always can identify the cafe by the red trim and red door. Espresso is strong with a smooth taste. Iconic black cups with red top. Love the under counter espresso machines, gives it a clean look. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. Pastries are home made. My favourite is the "jam cookie", sweet jam in the center with a not too sweet surrounding cookie. Makes my day better every time I get it. Somewhere to check out for all coffee lovers near and far. I'm happy it still stayed open and made it during the pandemic.

Great coffee place with awesome coffee variations. Tried the coffee with ginger on a rainy day and it was quite refreshing. Has a selection of snacks as well. The staff are bright and energetic just like the look of the store. Can order online from their website to pickup as well. Due to covid pickup only.

Checking out the 'best coffee in town'! Cappuccino verdict: good, not extraordinary. Loved the anti-work, pro-chat vibe of the place. Plus the cup's color play is a visual treat!

I don’t know about best coffee ever. I would say it’s just okay but that might be my fault for ordering a latte at place with “black coffee” in the name. I found it to not be strong enough and tasted mostly of milk. I also got a gluten free date bar that I didn’t realize was gluten free until after. It was really dry and didn’t hold together at all but again that might be my fault. There’s also not a lot of seating available; just the one big table and a few stools.

Really delicious coffee! I love this cafe and it’s vibe. Would definitely recommend popping into HotBlack for a coffee and sweet treat - the prices of coffee here are higher than other places but the quality tops them all.

I really wanted to like this cafe but the chai latte was bland (the latte was too milky, so the chai flavour was weak). The raspberry jam cookie was great though. I liked the vibe of the place but probably won't come back. Limited seating is available.

A cosy little coffee place. Latte was nice. They have interesting pastry and chocolate, a little backyard, and a nice big washroom.

The best latte in my short time in Toronto. The steamed milk was marshmellowy in texture, silky smooth and gave the drink a hint of sweetness. The espresso part had almost no bitterness and tasted like it came from high-quality beans. Loved it!

Well who knew a Vanilla Latte and a Pistachio Brazilian Chocolate could make me come back to this place several times in a week? Absolutely brilliant coffee, the sweetest staff members, and a great environment to chill/ study/ catch up with friends/ or even gather your thoughts! Highly recommended 👏🏻👏🏻 Ohh and you have to try the Brazilian chocolate!

This a coffee only review: very weak, nothing particular when it came to the taste. It was quite flat. We asked to stay and still got served in paper cups.

Seating might be hard to come by, but in the cold winter the cafe is a godsend. Between their cozy atmosphere, coffee, pastry, and spiced wine, I cannot recommend this place more.

Consistently good coffee, also a great place to pick up beans for your own at-home brewing. The back patio is always a nice nook away from the buzz just steps away. Non dairy beverages for your drinks are available.

Small size is really small But ginger brew latte is special. I will order this again next time. The ginger is not spicy at all. It’s not sweet and tastes good. Americano is like roasted coffee bean, and smell wonderful. Jam cookie is suggested by staff. Not sweet , flavorful, can order next time

The coffee bean they are using really good quality. Only a coffee addict can tell I guess. Friendly staff place is bit small but comfy.

Cozy cafe with great and very polite staff. The atmosphere of this place is awesome and if you seat in the couch you will not want to move until they close. I had the chocolate beets brownie (vegan option) and it knocked my socks out. They also host event for NTRC (running club). Overall, I had a great experience, the prices are good, and would recommend anyone around to visit them.

This place is actually amazing. The patio in the back is peaceful and lovely, almost shocking to have a place like that in core downtown. The cortado was delicious and so was the peach and rosemary oat bar. The extra touch which I LOVED was that they served the cortado in a double walled glass, so it stayed warm as I sipped it slowly. Coffee getting cold before I get to finish it is a major ick for me, and this little detail puts this cafe at the top of the list for me.

One of my favorite coffee shops. High quality cold brews with interesting infusions. Interior is relaxing and a nice spot, but I usually get takeout.

Have returned. Great ambiance, ample amount of seating, large selection of food and classic drinks. Latte, par for the course. $6 for regular. Takes AMEX.

First time trying this place, I went in when it wasn't that busy and the baristas greet you as soon as you walk in which is super sweet. I got a flat white and was surprised by how well the milk was steamed and how smooth but strong the espresso was, that shows that the baristas know what they're doing and that they have quality beans. The atmosphere inside was also really nice and warm, it is slightly pricier than the usual cafes I go to but I think it's worth it, will definitely be coming back when I'm nearby!

Great coffee. There's a girl here who is the most energetic and kind Batista that I have met.

One of the best cafes along Queen street west. Drink selections are great, but food options are not abundant though. The 'hidden' backyard is truly a gem in the spring/summer time.

Cute cafe with an outdoor space to chill and relax in. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly. Prices are about what you’d expect at a Toronto coffee shop (i.e decent). Not having public wi-fi definitely sucks though, for anyone who wants to work while they eat and drink. But otherwise I enjoy this place.

I've got to try out the drip coffee. It was very smooth and pleasant to drink. I'm giving 4 stars for now because I still have to go back and have some more coffee.

feels like it has gone down hill recently - used to come here all the time for their vegan sandwich but the last few times I’ve gone out of my way to go back and get it because of how good it was, it tasted completely different - went back in to ask if it had the same ingredients and they said it did, but it tasted like peanut butter rather than tahini and there was no miso taste at all. Sad to spend almost 10 dollars on a sandwich that isn’t consistent - probably ordered less since it’s their plant based option but us plant based folks have very few options and to experience disappointment over and over from an old favourite is always sad.

I recently had quite a nice experience here. This coffee shop is conveniently located and the prices are reasonable. The latte that I ordered was creamy and satisfying, although it was served slightly cold. I also ordered the chocolate beet loaf which was pretty good! It’s great that they offer a variety of vegan treats and dairy-free milk alternatives. It is a relatively small space, but the indoor seating could be arranged better to make the cafe more conducive for social outings.

You can't miss this place with the bright red entrance. Good coffee but the hidden gem here is the cozy back patio! Note: there is however no WiFi here!

  • 4/5 Daniel S. 1 year ago on Google
Great cup of coffee and my oat flat white was spot on. Only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is that don't allow dogs inside. With that said though, one of the staff members did take my dog outside on leash whilst I placed my order and got my coffee so not all bad! We'll definitely come back but maybe without the dog next time.

This has quickly become my go to destination for coffee meetings. Very friendly staff, quick service, affordable goodies, and wide range of coffee specialties—you can’t go wrong here. The patio out back is particularly quaint, almost Old Town Montreal vibes.

Nice place. With good coffee and friendly staff plus lots of goodies! I always try my favorite drink cappuccino with one of their pastries. If you are passing by and looking for a nice warm or even cold drink, I recommend to step in and check their menu.

Went in expecting a good experience due to the glowing reviews, but was ultimately disappointed. My breakfast sandwich was dry, they were out of oat milk, business was slow this time of day but I waited for 15 minutes for my cappuccino because they "didn't find me" in the outside patio. When I finally got my drink the glass rim was very clearly chipped. The café itself is beautiful, but this was a miss.

the latte was great but $8 for a small cup is quite expensive. they had some nice seating areas though, extended in the back and patio space when it's weather permitting.

My go to cafe whenever I'm in Toronto! Amazing place, staff are friendly and their fresh made sourdough bread with homemade jam is DELICIOUS! I tried the Russian tea for the first time today as a suggestion and I'm so glad I did! It was perfect!

Great coffee. Inside has some seating but it's usually busy. There is a cosy back patio space with 4 picnic tables.

Amazing quaint little coffee shop with a mini garden patio . Beautifully decorated with natural wood! Terrific service Thank you

  • 5/5 Sydney C. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent experience. The vibe was amazing, chill and inviting. Both baristas were knowledgeable of coffee and food items. We had ordered vanilla lates, their breakfast cookie (pumpkin seeds, cranberries, oats, flax seeds, etc.) and their brownie. The drinks were delicious, the breakfast cookie was awesome and the brownie was mediocre. The price was good for all 4 items, came to $17.00 including tip. The seating was crowded. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to visitors looking for a local experience.

One of my favorite cafés in town, delicious coffee (LOVE their cappuccino), good pastries (would like to see more pain au chocolate, my favorite, but lots of cookies). Have been here multiple times but finally got the try that backyard patio, pretty cute.

Had the carrot cake and Southbrook tea. The cake was delicious and not too sweet. The tea was piping hot and had a very nice herbal, sweet flavour that was also soothing for the throat! I love it, would come back to try other food and drink options. The vibe was calm and cozy❤️
