Very very few art to see. Yes 3 floors of art, but most of the art, was well… it felt… empty, to say the least. That’s how I would describe it. Lots of big empty spaces and sporadic placement of art I suppose? I pretty much finished exploring the three floors in 30 min. The curation was unimpressive. Will give them the benefit of the doubt, since they are somewhat a newly established art museum. I was more fascinated and inspired by the architecture, which housed the art than the art itself, to be honest. Come on… the building, the space has soooo much potential. Hopefully, they will bring it to its glory and life in the near future, and make it like the one in NY. On the side note, they have an amazing cafe in the building that serves delicious drinks and food. That was the only highlight for me in the building, sadly. Oh… and thank goodness the Toronto Biennial Art had an exhibit in the area going on - or else, I would have felt my visit wasted.

So much potential for this space but my friends and I were done looking at the four floors of exhibits in under half an hour. Good thing we came on a free admission Sunday. So sparse on art, a lot of TINY font on tiny signs printed on 8.5 x 11 paper pinned onto a wall. It felt very unplanned and cheaply put together. It’s not far from downtown Toronto but it feels like a bit of a trek to get out to this industrial area only to be done so quickly. $10 for 2hr parking (you definitely won’t need more!), and (on a regular day) $10 for admission. The Toronto contemporary/modern art scene is so much more than what little is shown here. So. Much. Potential. For. More.

Sooooo happy we have a substantial contemporary art museum in Toronto. I've been to the two mid/post pandemic exhibits and really enjoyed them. It's not a huge space (three midsize floors), but they make the most of them, and the space allows for a lot of flexibility. Sometimes the exhibits are all connected, sometimes not. And it's usually not to crowded (esp now). They're doing times entry tickets, which are good to get, but outside popular times like early afternoon, I've always just walked in. The cafe on site is also fantastic for coffee, sandwiches, pastries and a nice seated patio. You don't have to go anywhere else, but if you do there's a great coffee shop next door, and the Drake commissary around the corner. Also, make it an art crawl, and go check out the Arsenal and other galleries in the area! @danielmoneta for more

Great space with contemporary art in a wide range of mediums. The current exhibit has some painting, photography, and sculpture but also includes works which utilize mixed media and interactivity. The museum occupies several floors and I recommend taking the stairs if you can. There's a restaurant on the main floor but there is also a brewery and a coffee roastery nearby.

ugh one of the times i didn’t like a contemporary art museum that much. the exhibitions were pretty cliche without innovations in ideas expressed or medium conveyed. the museum cafe is rlly cute tho. the yuzu beer was pretty refreshing despite its pricey-ness. and bonus points for free friday nights. but i wouldn’t pay for this curation…

Best place to spend Friday afternoon 🤩 This location has three floors of Contemporary Art. I would advise you to visit the Shirin Neshat exhibition while it is still ongoing (until July 31 2022)

5 stars for the Exhibition Tour of Wedge Collection, Dancing in the Light with MOCA Curator Kate Wong. I enjoyed the talk very much and gained insight behind the photography pieces and paintings behind Ken Montague’s collection. There are 3 floors in the building, each floor focusing on one artist. On the ground floor, there is a large window. A window piece by an Iranian artist referencing Middle Eastern art and design elements that make up a pattern. As the artist states, this large window is similar to a screen where one can’t see inside from the outside but if one is inside, you can see the outside. A person can observe but not be observed. The colour against the raw concrete is quite dramatic and beautiful. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

It's a small contemporary art museum and offered limited exhibits, which might disappointment individuals who, like me aren't particularly passionate about art. The art on display didn't capture my interest, and I wouldn't consider paying for entry. It's not necessarily a critique of the art itself, perhaps it simply didn't resonate with my tastes. If you're not into contemporary art, this might not be your ideal visit.

Bit of an up and coming area, took advantage of the free Friday night special and enjoyed the exhibits. Was disappointed that the interactive light exhibit that was advertised was actually an exhibit from a few years ago, this was the reason why we went so it was annoying that there wasn’t anything similar happening on-site. Staff and facility was nice and there is a bar serving coffee, alcohol, French/Italian style baked goods/sandwiches and art for purchase.

A great space overall and Forno Cultura on the ground floor hits the spot. MOCA is never busy which makes for a chilled overall experience. My only critique is that I wish there were more floors and exhibits - hopefully with more funding in the future they consider an expansion.

It’s a fine and delicate art museum. I went on a TD Community Sunday which had free admission. It has only three floors but the topics and the arts are interesting. Nice place to go for when you are around, 30 min stay would be enough.

it’s FREE every Friday after 5pm. Get tickets before hand. There’s a cafe on the main floor delightful setting great for groups or individuals grabbing something or lounging. The space is large yet I feel the space isn’t used to its full potential. The second floor had few artist work show casing for a large room. Wish there was more work incorporated.

Seemingly a work in progress, that I fear may never be complete, the building is stark and more akin to a coworking space than a museum. While it may be novel to have in-house artists, as a paying spectator, I expect to see the finished product rather than the production process (a bit like sausages and cars). Set amid an austere industrial area,I’d prefer to return when things are more developed and thought-through (inside and outside the building).

Wonderful museum in a great area! I've already really loved MOCA was bummed when their Queen street location had to close down. The new location is BEAUTIFUL! They did a great job of keeping both the industrial heritage of the building in tact and modernizing it as a museum. They always have interesting shows/installations happening and at $10.00 an adult you get a lot of brain food for your buck. The cafe is next level. Forno Cultura did right by having a lot of wonderful to go/eat in options and a super unique pantry section. Grab some cheese, oil, and wine after your trip and you're set for the night! Culture yo' self! You deserve it So ya if you wanna feel bougie without the bank hit up MOCA.

MOCA brings regularly rotated contemporary artists from all over the world and brings them to this gorgeous and spacious building! At the moment, there typically is only 3 floors and less than 5 exhibits/artists being featured, but its always awesome and thought provoking works of art! Every first Sunday of the month is free, sponsored by TD, so consider coming on one of those days. MOCA has come a long way from their small gallery space on Queen West years ago, so we need to celebrate what they have been able to offer and make use of this beautiful space ❤️

I went for Free Friday Nights. Small museum (only takes up three floors currently). I enjoyed that I had time to read about each piece and especially enjoyed the sound experience in the stairwells. It took about 45min-1 hour to see everything. The touch table was a great added detail that allows you to feel some of the materials used in the artwork!

A small little museum, not too much going on. Really depends on what's on at that time and what interests you. Takes 30 minutes tops to see. A great perk though is that you can get free tickets through the Toronto Public Library program.

I love Art Gallery of Ontario very much! I had the opportunity to visit amassing and contemporary exhibitions! All exhibitions are very informative and very educative. These exhibitions are very well-organized. I have the opportunity to use different high quality devices (earphones, translation devices). I highly recommend to visit Art Gallery of Ontario as one of the best places in Toronto

MOCA dwells inside of such an amazing historical building, so visiting the place itself is already an incredible experience. The first floor is open to the public all year long completely free and there's a space on the south wing of the building that has huge foam blocks with different shapes and sizes that children and adults can play with, creating shaker like structures, bridges or even small towers! The second, third and fourth floors get different interesting expositions, including different disciplines from photography to Virtual reality experiences. So there's something really appealing for everyone that visit the museum.

Excellent museum! Highly recommended to see it, even if you have only one day in Santiago. I was astounded with just how sofisticared the culture of Central and South America several thousand years ago. All floors are now open again in the museum to the general public.

Whenever I visit Toronto, I usually plan the places I visit in advance so that I have enough time to prepare for travel. So when I discovered that MOCA has “free friday nights” I know I need to visit as I am excited to discover their artworks. Thank you so much for giving our free admissions! Will definitely come back to see new exhibits you’ll be showcasing :)

One star for a 10 mins visit in this museum. I don’t think it’s worth it. Installations are poor in my point of view. I know plastic is a big problem in todays world but modern art these days could be anything. I don’t recommend or come back again. It was waste of time, now wonder why the rate is so low 3.9 at this moment.

Free Friday Night @MOCA Toronto🌛 ⏳3 floors have different expositions, and it took around 1 hour. ♥️It’s a tiny museum, but I found my own peace while enjoying their artworks as well as spirits. 💡I just opened mind to feel the emotional connections and interpreted them by my own understanding.

A small but mighty collection, on 4 floors. Visiting the main floor is always free. Check the website to get the date for free admission on Sundays. The building is about a 10-minute walk from Lansdowne subway station. Note: It was a precarious walk on the VERY slippery sidewalk from the subway because no one on Sterling Road shovelled in front of their homes or scattered salt. I had to walk on the street. Be careful!

Small but growing space, certainly appreciated as a fresh face in the Toronto gallery scene. This museum is entirely Installation driven so keep your eye on the exhibition dates! I enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning. Also Fantastic cafe on ground floor with utterly amazing pastry, worth a visit even if you're not attending the museum, should be lovely in summer. Bookstore niche but fascinating. Look forward to watching this place grow.

People are amazed to find out the AGO is open during Covid. Let me reassure you that the staff at AGO and safety procedures are well organized and it's one of the most safest and enjoyable places to go during covid. How it works from start to finish, order your tickets online even if your member. You will get a blocked time to enter and will be spaced out and go through a thorough screening. Once you are in you can stay stay, they just stagger entry. If you go early you will really get to enjoy it. I love the AGO 😍❤️

A beautiful museum, silence, kindness, people here polite to everyone. For these days you have to book tickets online before you go there, if you are not in Toronto, that's better for you left one more hour at least for the route, traffic jam so hard sometimes. We got there nearly 10 minutes late, but thank God we got in finally. No one hard to you, they're so kind. You just show your electric barcodes on your phone to the scanner, and you are all set. Enjoy the Illusions show, Fu Man Chuck has a new appearance, and evil as usual, funny but true.

I went with my friend who's a fine artist, specializing in art history and curatorial practices. It was good to have someone explain the contexts behind the work we saw. Without her explaining the lives and intentions of the artists the museum would lack any intimacy to really see work for what it is. We came specifically to see the Diane Arbus exhibit, a bigger focus on her magazine work, but the archive was still extremely enjoyable thanks to Arbus' natural genius.

My favourite art gallery in Toronto. Small (in comparison to other galleries around the world) but welcoming and friendly gallery with quite a remarkable selection of Canadian indigenous art, Canadian art (Group of 7 and more!), rotating & permanent selection of contemporary art exhibitions, a selection of European art (from Netherlands and even some amazing Impressionism pieces). Look for a Renoir piece and a couple Monet while you wander the gallery on the bottom floor and make your way up to the top floor for limited time exhibitions. It’s currently Hague Yang’s exhibition and an amazing one it is! The gallery is closed during Toronto’s lockdown (Nov 23 for 28 days) but hopefully will reopen after!

Art has never been a huge interest of mine. The entire exhibit can be seen in about an hour. Many of the exhibits are very abstract, there are staff there to explain. A nice place to visit. One thing to note before going to the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto is to review their website for the particular exhibition or display that is going on in the week you want to visit else you will be surprised by what you see compared to the art posted by reviewers. For example, during the day I visited, it was the exhibition of THOMAS DEMAND HOUSE OF CARD & MARTIN BOYCE, RIRKRIT TIRAVANIA, CARUSO STJOHN , and this is to run through December 2022. And so if you visit in February, you may not see any of these things.

It's not a bad art museum, but nothing of notable greatness. It's only 3 floors and I had gone for their free anniversary night. Each floor was dedicated to one artist or one theme which was nice in some ways, but made it feel quite small. The exhibits for the most part were interesting to me. The first floor exhibit was unfortunately very uninteresting to me as it seemed very cliche in nature. I do like that there are staff on each floor that make sure that people are not touching art that isn't meant to be touched. There's also a cafe area, which is cute but pricey. They had a DJ, which I didn't care for. Definitely not good for people with sensitive auditory issues as it was sooo loud.

Workers at the museum in the lobby failed to tell us that they were between exhibits, which was not posted publicly on their website. Wasted about 15 minutes wandering and trying to figure out where to go before they told us that they chose not to inform us to “see what we would do”. Not a very fun experience when only visiting Toronto for two days and having a limited amount of activities to pursue in the timeframe.

This is a great addition to the neighbourhood offering an an accessible activity that everyone can join. There’s free lockers to store your belongings. One Sunday per month there’s free admission. It was a little busy when I visited, assuming because of free admission. The exhibit spaces are small so it doesn’t take long to visit. There’s a few activities for children available; check the website for details and schedules.

the gift shop on the first floor is filled with cool art books and other items and the building itself has a very industrial charm

Good place to go when you like to see some creative art within a short time, which worked out fine with me. But didn't have much to see in other words. Hope they had some more stuffs like paintings and sculptures..

A must for any Torontonian and visitor. MOCA is a world class modern art gallery. A fabulous place to explore and experience the creative. The onsite cafe is amazing.

Very cool use of the space. Partnerships with fourno cultura for food/drinks and Art Metropole round out the experience. Ever evolving exhibitions so check their website before you go

The curator exhibit was too pretentious, can't recommend based on that alone. Will revisit for another exhibit.

Small museum , reception didn’t check our tickets and only 3 out of 4 floors were open

  • 5/5 John P. 3 years ago on Google
The AGO has reopened with restrictions: you need to get a timed entrance ticket, and each room is limited in the number of people allowed. As a result the experience is better than it has often been in the past, though wearing a mask is a bit oppressive. We really liked the exhibition of photographs by Diane Arbus, but there is also a nice, small exhibition of British water colours. I also went into a couple of rooms with Canadian and European art. Close to two hours very agreeably spent. Definitely recommended.

I love the Art Gallery of Ontario and cannot wait for it to reopen. I have had the pleasure of visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario only once but it was an amazing experience. The space was stunning, beautiful to get lost in a walk around. The exhibits were varied and each as equally as introspective and thought provoking as the last. The staff was very helpful and kind. I highly recommend the Art Gallery of Ontario for anyone who would like to take in some culture but also loose themselves for an afternoon, forget the troubles of the day and immerse yourself into something wonderful. I hope you all visit!

Building was very impressive, lots of galleries with some chairs to sit in. Nice little coffee bar in the amazing building-length atrium. Some of the modern stuff I think is junk - if I could produce a reasonable facsimile it's not fine art! Free Wed evenings after 6 pm., though you have to line up. At least the line moves quickly...

Amazing museum that should not be missed whether you’re a local or a tourist. Any lover of art and museums will throughly enjoy every aspect of this museum with slivers of art from every century and quite a few unique contemporary art pieces. My favorite piece is the mirror room filled with shiny silver balls with a mirror finish. Make sure to “reserve” a spot in line in the main lobby. Located close to downtown and easy to access using public transportation.

When I went there as a little kid with my Grade 3 class we had fun time because we checked all the artwork they did over 90,000 they done, went down the spiral staircase and we painted pictures for our parents.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the best of its kind in Canada. The collection is large, varied, well chosen and beautifully exhibited. This is not one of those museums that crowd their walls and open spaces with works of art to make an impression. There's plenty of room for the exhibited pieces and for visitors. The building of the gallery calls attention to itself sparingly, never taking your attention away from the exhibitions. The collection of Canadian art is unequalled. It spans the history of art in the country from its humble beginnings to contemporary times.

A good little museum to offer the contemporary art from lesser-known artists that do not make it to the curation of bigger platforms (such as ROM or AGO). I enjoyed much of the material there, and found the workers to be very open and communicative. The museum's floor space is surprisingly compact, and there is not too much space across all the three utilised levels. I had the pleasure to see the GTA 21 exhibit, and would have to say it left a little to be desired: the composition seems slightly hectic, with themes changing rapidly; most importantly, the exponents subjectively lack context (just plaques with. explanations and background info would suffice) and are not always there to be interpreted. The museum's location is quite awkward: it is not very distant from the subway, however pedestrian zones are non-existent, and the museum certainly is not accessible for people in wheelchairs. Driving in is the answer, however at peak times parking could be a problem. Overall, worth a visit if time allows.

One of the staff is utterly rude. She yelled at us for touching the light on third floor. Though someone else just explained that art is good for interaction and photos. Confusing instructions and rude staff. I’d really prefer if someone asks it nicely. Anyway, the art show is interesting, but that one staff ruining the whole experience.

This art museum is full of inspiring installation art. Three floors we can visit with full of ideas how the artists exploring the use of different materials for their art pieces to tell stories and messages. They rotate the art pieces quite often so it is worth to revisit again per few months time. The artist statements are very self-explanatory and easy to understand that I can talk with my 8-year daughter about what messages the artist want to express through his/her artpiece.

I visited MOCA past weekend, I really liked the Imposter Cities exhibition there! It was a collaboration between art, architecture, and culture artists and educators which delivers a different perspective of Canadian cities in the context of cinema and movies.

Interesting exhibits. However, the museum is quite small and in my opinion it is not worth the price.

  • 2/5 Igor S. 6 months ago on Google
Didn't think it was worth the time. 3 floors were open, having minimal display content and variety. Entrance lobby area is considered the 1st floor display area. Only the 3rd floor was thought provoking and interesting. On the positive side, the building itself is very cool. And Henderson's brewery is right beside it :).

Excellent venue to view artistic expressions and interpretations. Located off a bike path and bike parking available at the front door. Great warm beverage spots near by to enjoy, ponder, and dive into more art. I’m thinking of joining as a member to broaden my artistic experiences. Folks, good initiatives in the works

Not much too see here unfortunately. The gallery in the second floor was the worse. They repeated one idea in multiple boxes:( no innovation. They can reach out to local artists and improve the quality I hope they do. Currently it does not worth paying the ticket fee. I gave one star for the photo gallery in 3rd floor and the nice coffeeshop downstairs.

I really liked the museum, an interesting and beautiful place. I visited the exhibition with my friends. I liked the exhibition. I will definitely come back again, thanks to all the staff. Especially to the guy who opened the doors for everyone during a terrible snowfall - You are the best
