None of us had been to Mackenzie House before and didn't know what to expect. We had come to see the exhibit about employees from Eaton's who had served in WW1. The six of us were the only ones in the museum so we were basically given a private tour by Bruce who I can only describe as a walking encyclopedia about the history of Mackenzie and the history of early Ontario. The house has three floors (including basement kitchen) and they are all covered in the tour. After the tour of the house we spent some time in the print shop which is a recreation of a what Mackenzie's shop would have looked like. The guide in this area was also really well informed and engaging. Everyone got to set up up some type and then print off a small one sheet memento of the visit. We all had a great time. Well worth a visit. Admission was $7 each. We found street parking on Bond Street and there is also a parking lot nearby. This was on a Saturday morning so I'm not sure what it would be like on weekdays.

Printing workshop is so lovely and interesting. The hosts are the guys who spread the love for what they do and involve you to this small part of Toronto history and the fate of the first mayor Mckenzie. Recommended for visiting, eventhough the house itself is under renovation right now.

This is a wonderful little museum dedicated to Toronto's first mayor and the Grandfather of Willian Lyon Mackenzie King. The house is in poor shape due to a flood, but the staff do a great job describing how the house used to look. The print shop is very interesting.

The print shop is beautiful. Unfortunately, aside from that room, the house is empty right now. The staff was very nice and shared very interesting facts about Toronto. They do organize workshops and events that I think are worth checking out. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the museum. I would definitely recommend a 1-hour visit!

Toronto's first mayor house. Very well maintained. Liked the vintage style printing machine still available and can get free name prints from them. The hosts are well trained and provide each detail patiently.

Visited the Mackenzie House today for a workshop on the printing press. The two ladies who gave the presentation shared incredible insight on the history behind the printing press and our first ‘rebel mayor.’ They also guided us through the steps in making our own posters and bookmarks which we were able to take home. Overall, a fun while educational experience for the kids and myself.

Still being restored after a flood so not so much to look at in the main house, but the guides more than offset that with their stories. The printing demonstration (which you can try) is worth the trip by itself. There's also a great walking tour (self-guided) that you can do from there to learn about remarkable Toronto women in history.

Even though the main house is closed due to water damage, the hands on “tour” of the printing press and some of storytelling of the newspapers that William Mackenzie printed and distributed was fun. Vanna did a great job - there were only two of us, so it was essentially a private tour. She also talked about others who printed local newspapers, like Mary Ann Shadd, who has quite a story of her own. It was interesting thinking about the process that used to be used to print and communicate.

The staff was so nice and even though there wasn't any furniture, the guy that showed us around was so nice and fun and made the whole tour awesome. Also trying out the free print shop and printing press and taking something home made this place one of the best places I've ever been to in Toronto. 100% Would Recommend.

We were fortunate enough to be given a tour of Mackenzie house by a knowledgeable male presenting staff member. While I don't regularly visit museums or historical buildings, I left Mackenzie house with more knowledge about the "rebel" mayor than I entered with. I also printed a free Christmas card for my nephew with the printing press they showed me how to use. How cool is that ?

The only reason I’m giving the museum a 4 starts and not 5, it’s because the museum is under renovation. We cannot visit the house, only the print shop. The house guide was very knowledgeable and made the visit worth our time. You can print your name, learn to use the press and then take the poster with you as a gift. Really enjoyable and we will be back when the house is ready.

The museum is completely free!! The tour guide was very passionate and interesting. On our trip to Toronto after going to several museums and other attractions I can say that this was our favorite, and mainly, thanks to the way the information is delivered by explaining the history, the on-hands workshop experience and the guide's energy. We loved it! Even without the furniture because of the water damage.

Unfortunately, the McKenzie House had a flood some time back and the walls had to be scrapped to check for mold and damage. All the furniture had to be taken out as well, so I didn't really get to see the house as it regularly is. I did get to see the printing equipment used in the day, but that was about it. The tour guides were really kind and helpful though. As a huge history fan, I hope the house gets the repairs it needs to bring it back to its heyday. Looking forward to revisiting when this happens! Thanks!

Was given a thorough tour of the house and printing workshop, although the house itself is down for indefinite maintenance and does not have anything to see. Anyone hoping to visit the house should wait for the renovations being completed and announced on the Toronto website before visiting.

The walking tour is very informative. You learn the history of the area, William Mackenzie and other people who walked our streets in the past. Great workshops for the family to learn about printing and the history of printing.

Interesting visit to Mackenzie house. Bruce gave a detailed account of the history with an old map. The printing press was definitely the highlight. Karen gave a wonderful tour of the house - the bedrooms, parlour, kitchen. Spent about 2 hours here. A little giftshop has miniature replicas, post cards and the like. Went for Jane's walk (aboit 1.5 hrs) with Bruce where he spoke about the historical significance of many old buildings and places near Bond street.
