I did a lot of research and traveled from outside Canada to go to Shouldice and I highly recommend it. The first day is a check-in and examination by the surgeon, which was relatively quick. Then you are taken to your room which you share with one other person. There are two floors with dedicated nurses on each floor. I questioned whether I needed to stay so long after surgery (check-in on a Wednesday for Thursday surgery and leave on Sunday), but it is so worth it. Unlike most hospitals, this is all they do - hernia surgery. And all of the patients around you are all going through the same surgery. Every day in the morning, a surgeon checks on you along with nurses. This is so valuable to ensure no issues, to ask any questions and to discuss with other patients what is β€œnormal” (or not normal) in terms of pain or swelling. The surgeon and operating staff were excellent and very comforting and the nurses were top notch. The day of surgery, they deliver lunch and dinner to your room (excellent food) and also help you out of bed showing how to do it to minimize pain and supervise you on your first walk. They also help the following morning by helping you out of bed and taking you through some exercises. This assistance and encouragement of mobility after surgery is so critical to a quicker recovery. I know if I was at home, I would be much more hesitant to walk around due to pain. The other patients were great company as we chatted, played cards or watched hockey and ate home-cooked meals in the cafeteria. You are served 3 meals plus an evening snack and have access to coffee, tea and juice at any time. They ask on the first day about any allergies or just preferences and they are quick to accommodate: vegetarian, no fish, no red meat, non-spicy… anything. They are great. I’m now 8-weeks post-op and I’m back to working out, jogging and all the exercises I did pre-op. I’m still only using lighter weights to be safe but there is zero pain in the area. I highly recommend and I’m very glad I chose Shouldice for their surgery expertise and very caring staff. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- I wanted to share an update - it’s now been 8 months since my surgery and after a very careful first 12-weeks (just being sensible - lots of walking and stretching and light working out, but nothing that would cause undue stress), I’ve been back to my normal workout routine of running, biking, squats, leg presses, hack-squats and much more. Everything remains exceptional and I further validate my original 5-star review.

I attended this hospital as a walk in patient for an examination. There are only a limited number of walk ins allowed each day. Check their website for how many each day and be sure to arrive early. I arrived before 6 am to assure that I got in that day. Staff were excellent from the security guard to the Drs. and everyone in between. Facility was beautiful, clean and large. There is paid parking on site. I would suggest you register and fill out the online questionnaire beforehand to speed up your process. Thanks you to all!

I had my hernia done last week and happy that I chose Shouldice. All the staff members were polite, attentive and professional providing the optimal conditions for full & fast recovery. Food is delicious, the facilities are clean and well maintained, the garden is gorgeous (how can you not heal with such a view?). A big shout out to my surgeon, Dr. Hall for being patient and for making sure I understand the procedure and the recovery process.

Had my hernia surgery here. I felt from the first consultation to the last day in good hands. The procedure was less painful than i had imagined and the staff was great at making me comfortable and keeping me informed. Food was great too for a hospital.

This is an incredible Hospital. Patients are treated with the utmost respect from everyone and it's clean. This was my second Hernia surgery but the first one at Shouldice. The pain was minimal and recovery was much quicker than my first non Shouldice surgery. One word of advice make sure you bring your prescription drug bottles. They will not admit you if you don't have them. If you forget them you will have to go back home to get them or they write you a prescription and have you go to the nearest pharmacy.

I had an inguinal hernias repair done 4 weeks ago. For a surgical experience, for which I have little to compare it to, the experience was very positive and professional. Every member of the Shouldice staff were happy, pleasant attentive and professional. The facilities were very clean. My recovery has gone exactly as I was told it would. As described in many other reviews the food was very good. I understand why the Shouldice Hospital has the reputation it does.

Absolutely AMAZING! Staff is super friendly and know exactly what they are doing. From start to finish they had me as comfortable as possible the entire time. Not to mention the absolutely stunning grounds you’re able to walk while you recover. I personally didn’t have insurance coverage and was worried about costs, but after talking to finances they had me leaving VERY happy! Do yourself a favour and don’t get your hernia fixed anywhere else πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ it’s worth it!

Can't say enough good things about Shouldice. Everything was well organized from my first step in the door to the meals (you won't leave lighter than when you arrived) to the surgery and care. I chose Shouldice rather than wait a year or more in BC and it was a great decision. Thanks to all the doctors and nurses!

All the staff from office, kitchen, maintenance , nursing, personal service workers, doctors are 5 star..it is well worth the trip to get your surgery there. Both women and men there of all ages as patients..hopefully I never have another hernia but I would return there without a doubt..and I was just released today..my surgeon was from Medellin Colombia and was fantastic ..the nursing staff in the OR fantastic..the floor nurses fantastic.. the food services staff fantastic..you eat the highest quality of food there served by great folk..get a post surgery massage from Claudia..wonderful person..

Recently visited Shouldice for an umbilical hernia repair. If you have a hernia come to Shouldice. I was fortunate enough to have Dr.Hall who is a very talented and just cool guy in general. He made me feel at ease as I was quite nervous being my first surgery. The care from the nurses (Bon, Alex, Mary Mel and I'm sure I missed others) was superb. And the food was unbelievable. The grounds are lovely for a walk and they teach you exercises to help get you back on your feet quickly. They also try to avoid using mesh repair instead using suture which the body responds better to. And you'll meet others going through the same that also helps in sharing the experience. Bottom line, Shouldice is where to go for a hernia and the model.

I waited 9 months before posting this review. All I can say is they did a fantastic job. I have zero side effects, everyone was great to work with, Hospital has awesome food, wonderful grounds and everyone that works there is happy. My only mistake was waiting 3 years to get the operation and thinking I could fix it myself. If you considering a hernia repair don't get a mesh repair, go to Shouldice, you won't regret it.

If you are given the choice, go to Shouldice for your hernia repair. I've been to many public hospitals for various surgeries, but I've never been to a private one before. My experience at Shouldice was very positive. While, the premises are a bit old fashion, they are quaint, quiet and exceptionally clean. But above everything else, it's the staff that makes the difference: administrative folks, nurses, cafeteria, massage therapist, technicians, surgeons... all of them are heartwarmingly humane and accommodating! For hospital food, you can hardly get better (I have food restrictions and they arranged special meals around them). As for the surgery, this too was also a very nice experience: the surgery rooms are state of the art (bring warm socks, it's bloody cold) and the staff is welcoming, I felt very safe. Moreover, not being kicked to the curb on the day of the surgery is a nice change of pace, and it gives you time to find your feet before you go home, which is nice.

I went there yesterday with my mom on referral by her family doctor. When we got there, there was a line up; we were 3rd in line. No problem, as the line moved fast. When we finally got into the foyer of the building, a nurse (Kelly) was there to greet us. She asked who the patient was and I said it was my mom. The nurse advised I had to wait outside and I said that I was there to interpret what the doctor has to say to my mom. She said no. My mom told her that if I wasn't allowed in, she would just leave and go home. I explained to nurse Kelly that I needed to explain to my mom what the doctor was saying because her English was not sufficient to understand medical terms that the doctor may say to her. Nurse Kelly, rolled her eyes and held her hand to her head and looked at me and told me to tell my mother not to be rude. I told her my mom was not being rude and was simply stating a fact that she would not go in without me. I then asked her if there was an interpreter in my moms native language and she ignored my question and just continued with the eye roll and asked my mom the covid screening questions. When it got to the last question, my mom didn't understand and looked at me (explains why I needed to be there to interpret). I looked at nurse Kelly and asked her to repeat the question to me. She repeated the question without looking at me and I answered no. She asked my mom to sign the form and walked off without explanation. When she returned she said she spoke to someone that I had to wait outside. So I told her fine, we are leaving. In addition, there was an individual who was ahead of us in line who also had someone there with him and both went in! So why couldn't I go in??? I do not appreciate nurse Kelly rolling her eyes at me and falsely accusing my mother of being rude when she herself was being rude to us with an attitude that needs to be adjusted. I would strongly encourage people not to visit this place - I'm sure there are other institutions that can do the same thing without the rudeness of staff. I would never return to this place, ever!

I had my inguinal hernia surgery on May 31st. I cannot express how attentive the staff were. The PSW, the cleaning staff, the kitchen staff were all exceptional at their jobs. Friendly and caring. The nurses and doctors walked you through every step of the pre-op and post-op. The facility, the grounds and wow the food. This not not β€œ hospital food” And there was plenty of it. So good. I wish I was better with names as I would thank so many staff members personally. What you do is not easy. But you certainly make a stressful situation like surgery easy for your patients. Thank you!

5-star hotel with a surgical and nursing team. Nobody goes there for vacation so patients are not always in the mood to appreciate how good they have it. You just have to experience it for yourself. I was conscious throughout surgery and it felt like one of those massage machines that Dr Ho advertises on TV. With Dr Spencer Netto doing the repair and Dr Park handling sedation it was a thrill I'm glad I did not miss and I can't wait for my other side to need a repair so I can go back there.

Simply the Best! Dr. Slater, was very professional & provided all the possible outcomes that could occur, good or bad. Very pleased with my surgery, however, it does take some time to heal but that is to be expected. Just over two months now & feeling great. There are just too many people to thank. All the Staff including, reception, admin., nurses, cleaning, snacks, food services & others. You all put the "Wow Experience" back into our Health Care. You make a difference. Thank you so much!!! As far as I’m concerned there is no other place to have a hernia repaired. From my consultation to my surgery and then discharge it was completely seamless. My surgeon Dr. Wong was absolutely amazing. A true master. The nurses were great, the grounds are amazing for walking and getting active. And one of the most important things was the amazing food. Every meal was delicious. They even had a big spread for superbowl Sunday! Thank you Shouldice for the exceptional service.

Well I was just released from the Shouldice for an Inguinal hernia repair. I HIGHLY recommend this hospital. The staff are wonderful and caring. The food is very well done for a hospital and their technique is world class. Thank you Dr Wong for a terrific job. The experience is also enhanced by the fact that you are there with others who have the same medical issue as you do and everyone helps you to understand and anticipate what to expect. This is especially helpful as any surgery can be a little frightening. There is simply nothing to worry about! World class facility!

Outstanding Hospital. I can't say enough about the staff and surgeons. From check-in (Dec 13th) to check out (Dec 17th) the entire procedure was extremely smooth. I met with my surgeon Dr. Simmons the evening before my surgery, and he went over the details. Dinner that night was first class, enjoyed the company of others who were recovering from their surgeries, so it was good to hear first hand what to expect. After my surgery I was taken to my room for 4 hours before the nurse came and got me up walking, they encourage it..just a small walk, then I made a point of walking about 5 mins an hour. Everyone experiences different levels of pain, but taking the meds certainly help..I recommend not trying to be a hero..take the meds. The following two days I was checked in the morning by the Doctors, I was up walking throughout the hospital, even venturing outside on my last day. The meals were excellent, we joked many times that we felt we were on a cruise ship..The shared room was very comfortable...and the nurses were great, very friendly, always making sure I was doing well. On the morning of checking out I was checked by the Doctor, and given the okay. I travelled from Vancouver for surgery because I did not want the mesh..and it was well worth the trip. 5 stars to Shouldice!

I just left Shouldice Clinic after having inguinal hernia repair. I chose Shouldice on the advice of my Family GP and on the recommendations of two close personal friends. They were right, my experience exceeded my expectations. Great processes, redundant quality control points, excellent communication on what to expect next, top notch, compassionate staff who really seem to enjoy their roles. Bonuses were the beautiful grounds and the food. In summary I felt that they cared about me as a person, offered consistent clear communication and all staff were extremely competent. You can trust them.

Excellent hospital for hernia repair. From my consultation to my surgery and then discharge, it was completely seamless. I just had a hernia repaired by Dr. Ayse Yilbas on Friday, September 1st. I would highly recommend Dr. Ayse Yilbas took the time to explain what her plan was before and update me after the surgery on how the surgery went. The entire stay has been such a pleasure. Their staff are amazing professionals and provide such great care to their patients; the food is also excellent. Although I hope never to need another hernia repair, I am happy with my decision to put my trust in Shouldice Hospital, and I would return here if required in the future. Thank you, Shouldice, for the exceptional service.

I am submitting this review on behalf of my 85-year-old father, who underwent surgery at Shouldice 2.5 months ago. My father had a wonderful experience during his stay. Despite feeling quite nervous upon admission, he found great comfort as soon as he settled into his room. The entire team, from the surgeon to the front desk, treated him with exceptional kindness and care. Understanding the communication challenges my father faced, they took the time to provide him with detailed written instructions. They patiently addressed all his inquiries and ensured that his concerns were promptly resolved. Today, more than two months after the surgery, my father is doing remarkably well. He has no complaints, only praise for the hospital and its staff.

Very beautiful hospital. The surgeon Dr. Kalman was very professional, thoughtful and generous with his explanations. He did a great job! He took the time to check everything and came after the surgery to ask how I feel. He was exceptional. Nurses mostly were nice. Diana and another lady were very kind but Deb was abrupt, rude and complained all the time which was extremely unpleasant. It costs nothing to be kind and empathetic. Suggestions: clean rooms and change bed sheets more than once a week. The floor in toilet was sticky. When complained, they cleaned very reluctantly. Garbage bin needs cleaning every day. Covid didn't go anywhere. Rooms are very outdated and need urgent update. Be aware that it is only One public shower for men and women. It was a big turnoff for most women on the floor. Something needs to be done about it. Food was exceptional. Very tasty and generous.

Had surgery here in 1996 for an inguinal hernia on my left side. Everything went well and it's still holding up to my lifestyle. So when I got another on my right side I knew where to go. The experience is much as I remembered, lots of nice people going through the same thing. I know that getting accepted can take time, let's face it, the health system is a little slow and bogged down currently, but it's worth it. Once my day arrived, I proceeded to the registration area for my stay. The nurse and family doctor I saw were both friendly and welcoming. (I wish my own family doctor was this nice!) Next morning is being shaved for surgery, down to pleasant waiting room, and then in to surgery. I was aware of being helped off table to wheelchair to be returned to my room. Some wake up in bed, unaware of how they got there! There are many friendly staff members, nurses on my floor all seemed very helpful. There are many, Maryam, Primrose, Cheryl(nice perfume!), Sandy are names I remember, there were many more, names I forgot, or never heard. My doctor (sadly his name escapes me, unfortunately, 'cause he was very nice) visited me each morning after the operation to remove some clips and check on me. Food was good, certainly better and more varied than typical hospital food. 3 meals a day and a snack time in the evening, in a large dining room downstairs, lots of time to meet people. Wonderful grounds to sit or wander around on when you're up to it, or you can wander around inside, nice lounge on each floor, TV, pool tables if you're up to it, board games, chess if you like, nice place to sit and read or chat with others if you just want to get out of your room. It's like an old fashioned resort that happens to do surgery, if you're generally a friendly, patient person you'll probably enjoy yourself, surgery and all!

Was discharged today after a 5 night stay, had 2 hernias repaired. Dr Henao preformed the first, Dr Ross the second, Had little discomfort on the second one which is normal after surgery, feels more like a resort then a hospital. The nurses are amazing, done everything they could to help me through my recovery. Food services and server's are very professional and friendly, also house care.

Title: Unpleasant Experience with Shouldice Hospital's Walk-In System I recently visited Shouldice Hospital for a consultation regarding my inguinal hernia pain, hoping to benefit from their reputed expertise in hernia repair. However, my experience with their walk-in clinic left me frustrated and dissatisfied. One of the purported conveniences advertised by Shouldice Hospital is the availability of walk-in appointments for the outpatient clinic from 8 AM to 4 PM on weekdays. Excited about the possibility of a swift resolution to my health concern, I arrived at the clinic around 7:50 AM. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed when I discovered a sign stating that no more walk-in appointments were available. According to the front desk staff, the doors open at 6:30 AM, and patients often line up as early as 4:00 AM. This information was both surprising and disheartening. The notion of individuals, already in pain from their hernias, having to endure freezing Canadian weather and uncertain wait times is, in my opinion, an unacceptable and flawed system. The hospital's online booking system, while available, proved to be another source of frustration. Booking an appointment online offered a date that was four to five months away, creating a stark contradiction to the supposedly convenient walk-in clinic option. This inconsistency in the two methods of patient intake only adds to the overall dissatisfaction with the hospital's administrative processes. The hospital administration needs to address these issues urgently and devise a more equitable and efficient system for patient bookings. The current setup not only inconveniences patients but also raises concerns about the fairness of access to medical care. No one should be forced to endure long waits in adverse weather conditions, especially when seeking relief from a painful condition. In conclusion, Shouldice Hospital's walk-in system and online booking process need significant improvement to better serve the needs of patients. Until these issues are addressed, I would caution potential patients to be aware of the challenges they may face when attempting to access timely care at this facility. Thank you

I'm extremely upset and disappointed at the service I've received from shouldice. I've been dealing with a hernia for about 10 months now and have been in agonizing pain 90% of the time. It's affecting every aspect of my life. It took 9 months just to get a consultation appointment at shouldice. When I arrived for my consultation the reception staff and nurse were very friendly and helpful. Then I met the doctor and the horror started. Firstly I had no idea what the doctor was saying to me as he had a very strong accent and was wearing a mask. Every time I asked him to repeat himself he would ignore me, every time I asked a question he would ignore me. At the end of the consultation I told him I had some questions, he literally opened the door and told me someone else will answer your questions. I've never met a doctor with less compassion than this one. If I wasn't upset enough with all of this. He told me I need to lose 40 pounds before they operate on me (I weigh 205 pounds and I am pretty healthy and very strong). After I've lost the weight I would have to call to do another consultation. When I questioned this I was told "look at yourself, you are way too fat to do surgery" Will this time be another 10 months wait? How come nobody ever told me to lose the weight before now? Shouldice just completely wasted my time and completely embarrassed me. After all, I'm still left in agonizing pain all day every day and they refused to help me. I'm disgusted at the service provided considering the glowing recommendations I received about the hospital. I will be speaking to a lawyer about my experience here and taking action against this doctor. No person should have to go through what I went through yesterday.

This hospital was a major disappointment. I endured the worst experience of my life. Despite having two ultrasounds confirming my umbilical hernia, and my family doctor's recommendation to visit Shouldice Hospital for a quicker resolution than a general hospital, the reality was far from it. Attempting to schedule an appointment was a nightmare; the earliest available was five months away, forcing patients to opt for a walk-in. Based on reviews, I learned people started lining up before 6 AM. I arrived at 5:15 AM, only to be the 13th patient in line, with the first patient having arrived at 4:15 AM. Thankfully, it was summer, so I only had to wait outside for an hour, but the entire waiting process still took an exhausting 5 hours. When I finally saw the doctor at 10 AM, he attempted to examine my hernia manually, which is ineffective for umbilical hernias. He refused to even look at my ultrasound results and insisted on a CT scan instead. Then they referred me to another hospital, which scheduled the CT four months later. Despite my efforts to find earlier appointments elsewhere, I had no luck. After the CT, I contacted the hospital for further steps, the doctor informed me that they couldn’t perform the surgery there. This critical information could have been conveyed 5 months earlier if they had considered my ultrasound results, saving me precious time. Now, with worsening pain, I must start the process from the beginning. I'm surprised by the high ratings of this hospital. They make people to wait at least five hours in line early in the morning and they've caused a 5-month delay for no reason, worsening my condition. I regret not asking my family doctor for a referral to a general hospital. Now, I'm faced with possibly waiting another year or paying for immediate surgery in another country. In short, don't be misled by the positive reviews. Avoid this hospital at all costs!

Very well run hospital. Admission was fast and simple. The day of my surgery went off like clockwork. I was informed of what to expect before and after my surgery. Post surgery care was attentive and concern. Very pleased with the results so far. Overall care was very good during my stay. Thank you.

I had my inguinal hernia done in 2017. I am very happy ! I was surprised how little pain was involved. Didn't even take pain killers afterwards. Very fast recovery. It was fun staying there for 4 days. The food was awesome.

Very happy with my experience. I had inguinal hernia surgery. It went well. Though I was technically awake for the procedure, I was so medicated that it ended up being quite comfortable. I was very impressed with the vegan food offerings too: I was expecting veggie burgers for every meal but the creativity and quality of the vegan food definitely surprised me (lots of fresh fruit and veg and different protein sources for every meal). My only complaint would be about the bed: it wasn't very comfy, but that's probably to be expected. Bring your own pillow and athletic support!

Excellent hospital for hernia repair. The entire stay has been such a pleasure. Their staff are excellent, professional, and provide such great care to their patients. Although I hope never to need another hernia repair, I am definitely happy with my decision to put my trust in Shouldice Hospital, and would return here if needed in the future.

If you need a hernia repair don't go anywhere else. They are experts. That's all they do. Don't let a general surgeon do the job. Get it done by a hernia specialist. The best part is that they don't use mesh to do the repair. Which means the recovery is a bit longer but the upside is that you won't have a foreign object in you that might fail years later. Google hernia mesh failure. You don't want that under any circumstances. The staff is really nice but they could use a refresher on bedside manners. Having said that I didn't go there for bedside service. I went for their expertise and I got plenty of that. The food, on the other hand, was much better than I expected. I thought it would be typical hospital food. But not so. It was actually excellent. Very tasty and very nutritious.

Just got out of Shouldice today, it was a good hospital and staff who seemed very competent in what they do. I think my only complaint would be the food. While it was okay, it wasn't really any better than food at other hospitals. First night there it was burgers and fries for dinner. And it tasted so, so. Porridge or cereal for breakfast, there was roast beef for lunch one day that wasn't bad that would have been better as a dinner offering. But all and all can't really complain about the place.

I just left the Shouldice Hospital with a Hernia Repair under my belly. I have to say they really know how to treat their patients. They made sure everything was perfect and well kept. The food was absolutely amazing and the hospital was super clean. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. Thank you again for taking such good care of me πŸ™‚

My experience at the Shouldice Hospital to repair my right inguinal hernia was wonderful from start to finish. Dr. Simmons (who I was fortunate enough to see during my initial consult, admission exam and had as my surgeon) provided me with the greatest confidence, answering all of my questions and giving in-depth detail of what to expect during and after the surgery. A sincere thank you has to be given to the administrative and kitchen staff, PSWs, OR staff and nurses. Their friendliness and smiles were such a welcome sight pre and post-surgery. The food was great. Balanced and thought out, it was nice to have different types of dishes throughout my 3 night stay, no two meals were the same. My favourite time of day was definitely the evening snack round. If by chance I require another hernia related surgery in the future, I would not hesitate for a moment and chose Shouldice Hernia Hospital again. Thank you!

One year ago this week I was in a world of hurt with a left inquinal hernia. I was admitted two weeks later amid tight Covid protocols. A one year later update: thanks to the folks at Shouldice all's well! Thanks again to the folks in admissions, Dr. Spencer, the OR crew, the nursing staff on the third floor, not to mention the kitchen and serving staff. Meals were superb!! I was admitted on a Monday afternoon and went home Thursday morning. The 3 day stay was most comfortable and exactly what I needed to get a good start on a smooth recovery. Shouldice=first class service! Thanks again..... Prior Smith

From the examination to the actual procedure to the recovery, the entire staff has been a model of efficiency and professionalism. Every staff I encountered were courteous and professional. I had an excellent stay at the Shouldice Hospital. The surgeon came by often to assure me that the incision is healing well. Just a great experience. The grounds are very well maintained and it was great to go for walks (slow walks) enjoying the beautiful gardens. By the way, the food was great and well prepared.

Easily the best place for hernia repair, a very nice facility, surrounded by calm, serene and beautifully-kept lawns. The staff is very polite and ensure that your stay is nice. Oh and very nice food+snacks.

I had bilateral hernia surgeries repaired at Shouldice less than 3 weeks ago (Aug 24 & 26 respectively), and I am beyond happy and satisfied with the results. It's been 16 days since I left the hospital and I can say that I am almost fully recovered. I can run, workout and do my normal life. Everything from check-in to check-out was great. The whole staff, nurses, doctors and everyone involved was attentive, courteous and professional even when they were notoriously busy. I was lucky enough to have Dr. Oscar Henao do both surgeries, whose knowledge and patience explaining the procedure made me feel very comfortable. His bedside manners are also fantastic. Special shout out to the nurses who were always there to help and graciously put up with everything including some not-so-good attitude from a few patients. I cannot speak enough good things about them! The property is beautiful, the building could use an update but still is a very comfortable, cozy and relaxing setting. The ORs and the waiting area at the OR are top-notch, loved having a reclining chair and warming blankets while you wait to go to surgery. The food! the food is simply amazing, so much so that one has to be careful not to indulge too much. Also amazing, friendly and happy kitchen staff. The pain is very real the first days after each surgery but improves notoriously day by day. The doctor prepares you for it (it wouldn't be realistic to expect no pain if you think about it) but 100% manageable with painkillers the first couple nights and Tylenol during the day. I stopped taking even Tylenol after a week. The nurses are always there to help you with pain management. One suggestion: bring your own pillow, the hospital pillows are not bad, but hey, they're hospital pillows. Having your own makes a difference, especially those first nights after the surgery when you're really uncomfortable. The surgery is done with local anesthesia, so I dozed out a couple times during each 45 min surgery (best naps ever!). Yes, you can hear the doctor and his team talk throughout your surgery, and you feel they're working on you but I had absolutely no pain whatsoever throughout both procedures. Once they're done you get off the table with some help and to a wheel chair and a nurse takes you to your room where you have to wait 4-5 hours for the anesthesia to pass (pro tip: drink TONS of water after the surgery, helps you a ton) once it's done the nurse will help you get of the bed and go for a supervised short walk just to make sure you're good to start moving by yourself. The place, doctors and all the staff are fantastic! I 100% recommend Shouldice.

So you don't do virtual appointments anymore because the doctor doesn't want to, are you serious? Why is it on the questionnaire then? You can't make an appointment so please travel here anyways and you may not get in? Why not just do appointments like everyone else as it makes the most sense so that people don't waste their time. I'm sure it only matters when people waste your time though. This is ridiculous. I'm sure it's good for those who CAN get in. I'll go elsewhere, your "hospital" needs to get with the times and not waste others time.

Used to be the best place to go. Now most nurses are rude and actually hurt you. Doctors dont follow up with patients and always rushing. I felt like a piece of meat on an assembly line. Had all kinds of issues after surgery that my local hospital had to take care of...almost died due to complications, do you think shouldice cares?

I had my inguinal hernia operated on by Dr Spencer. He was incredibly professional in every aspect and did an excellent job on my surgery. His entire operation team made me feel safe and secure and talked me through everything until I was out. I'm incredibly impressed by him and his team. Highly recommend. Top notch surgeon. Thanks again Mark Fairbarn

Had a hernia repair performed here. Was one of the best decisions I have made in regards to surgery. It is basically like a hospital spa. Food is excellent, 5 star meals. Nurses and Doctors were amazing. I don't ever want another hernia, but if I do get one I know exactly where I am going. 3 months post op feeling great and been back at the gym full time.
