5-star
location,
5-star
talent
booking
and
a
1-star
sound
that
ruins
everything.
I
want
to
give
every
downtown
Toronto
venue
a
5-star
review
just
for
existing
and
keeping
the
culture
alive,
I
really
do.
Unfortunately,
the
Velvet
Underground
consistently
attracts
great
artists
away
from
nearby
venues
with
competent
sound
to
play
in
a
box
where
all
their
songs
compress
into
needlessly
loud,
muddled
walls
of
noise.
I've
given
the
venue
3
or
4
tries
with
artists
of
different
genres
to
see
if
any
of
them
would
be
different,
but
nope.
Every
time
I've
gone,
any
bit
of
detail
in
the
music
is
drowned
out
by
deafening
mid-tones
-
no
matter
where
I
stand
in
the
venue.
Maybe
I
sound
like
an
old
man,
but
I've
been
to
countless
venues,
from
big
theatres
to
tiny
basements,
both
as
a
performer
and
an
audience
member,
and
the
only
time
I've
genuinely
felt
like
I
had
to
wear
earplugs
or
suffer
permanent
hearing
loss
was
the
Blanck
Mass
show
here
a
few
years
back.
It
was
musical
malpractice.
One
venue
having
bad
sound
isn't
the
biggest
deal,
but
the
fact
that
the
Velvet
Underground
has
SUCH
bad
sound
and
SUCH
good
artists
is
a
real
shame
for
Toronto's
live
music
scene.
I'm
sure
the
artists
aren't
leaving
Toronto
very
impressed,
either.
If
the
Velvet
Underground
revamps
their
sound,
I'll
be
happy
to
give
the
venue
a
reappraisal.
Until
then,
there
is
only
one
justifiable
rating
to
give.
