Beautiful location and a great season of performances! This company also offers a series of free events - music, dance, and performance during the afternoons. Limited seating, so make sure to arrive at least thirty minutes in advance. Very enjoyable experience and professional quality. Excited to return to multiple events at this breathtaking venue.

Absolutely loved the play Tosca! The main actress that played Tosca was amazing! The young male minor actor that was running from the law had a truly remarkable voice! I wish I could have heard more from him! I definitely will return to this opera house again! Stage: The stage is tilted towards the audience very slightly, so that the audience can completely see the death scene. As a spectator, you don't realize that the actresses/actors are walking on a slight tilt, until that scene. They had English subtitles at the top of the stage so that the audience can understand the Italian words. It worked quite well. Orchestra: The orchestra was nestled below the stage and the audience, so you can only see them if you are in the first row possibly, if you are on the main floor. Dress: Some people dress casually and others quite formally. Food: They had sandwiches, drinks, and cookies at the venue. Tip: There is a Rexall right across the street with food and water. Seating: We sat in Row R seats 17&18, which were basically centered with the stage. We could see the performance very well. Ticket cost: $185/ticket. Washrooms: They had a long lineup, but we were always on time for the next scene as long as we immediately got in line at the break. They had wheelchair accessible washrooms.

Been a few times now. Always have the best of times. They have some great shows. Nice excuse to dress up and have a fancy drink. If you haven't been I would strongly suggest!

Last night my wife and I attended our 3rd highly disappointing evening at a Canadian Opera Company production over the last few years. The Marriage of Figaro was superbly sung, the orchestra was impeccably prepared, the direction was a travesty. What has happened to opera that non musical directors are allowed to ruin the nature and value of this art form? A very poor and shabby presentation of a very rich and embellished opera. Mozart would be astonished! Why not just try and realize the obvious intentions of the composer? Your company is a national embarrassment!

I attended the "Free Concert Series" today. What a wonderful way to share music❤️. The venue is absolutely gorgeous... Listening to great music and watching the city go by... Lovely. Keep on doing amazing work.

We walked out at the intermission, Carmen the character is supposed to be sensuous and sexy. She was anything but. Her singing was acceptable and that already made her the best on the cast. The Teodoro had a voice that just could not carry. Carmen has no dance move nor could she move with her music. $300 bucks down the drain was not the problem. It was just disappointing.

I love this space and location of them four seasons performance center. The Canadian Opera company always puts one of the best operas. If you're not enough just go inside to see the modern wood layout of the interior of the building.

What an amazing venue in the heart of town! I went to see the Nutcracker with my wife and it was amazing! And I’m not even into ballet, but it’s great to see the time and effort put into a production like this. The only downside was the seat we got which was sideways to the stage, so not very comfortable.

Lovely space and I enjoyed attending the free concert series with Sara Schabas singing an opera piece. Sara along with Isabelle (the piano player) were wonderful. Will definitely be attending more.

Lovely event with pleasant audience for the free lunch opera. Wish there was some comfortable seating options for those who need it.

Superb performance!!!!! The staging was agreeable - liked the revolving cube. I did miss that the ending was not what I remember seeing. I think Don Giovanni should have walked through one of the doors with red backlighting to symbolize his descent into hell. I suppose seeing the Commendatore as a statue, on his horse and Giovanni descending down the stairs to hell will always stay with me ( dating myself with a performance many years ago).

I went with my work colleagues to see a free concert hosted at the venue. I liked the airy atmosphere with adequate seating space. The reception team were very courteous and willing to share info on all the happenings scheduled.

The faculity was really clean and modern, not to mention the ballet was absolutly eye catching. The sound of the symphony was ear candy for the movements on the stage.

I went to see Fidelio and a woman seated behind me was extremely ill, blowing her nose constantly, making a pile of dirty tissues, and coughing to the point of belching and loosing her breath, and spitting up phlegme. She was sweaty and looked like she was not enjoying herself any more than I was. Everyone around me was talking about it and looking around. I left after the first couple songs because I couldn’t handle it. On my way out, the ushers told me to take a flyer so I could get back in and I told them I would not be returning to the show because of the coughing lady. They were like “obviously we totally understand” and very aware of the situation but I guess there was nothing they could do. I had loved seeing la bohème the week before but I don’t think I will return to this theater after this experience. I hope the Canadian opera company improves their policy for ticket return policy for sick people because obviously that lady spent a lot on her tickets (like the rest of us) and didn’t want to miss out, but due to the amazing acoustics in the theater, that made the experience very unpleasant for EVERYBODY.

Standing room was great, especially at the price value. However, it would have been nice to have a program giving background to the opera and bios of players. The single sheet provided was very disappointing

The singing was outstanding and moving- especially Rodolfo and Mimi. As usual the orchestra played beautifully. I also enjoyed ( as did the audience) the four students “acting up”. The children were lively and fun.

The singers, music and set were excellent. However the lights reflecting off the mirrors and shining at the audience were at best distracting and at worst very irritating. I wanted to put on my sunglasses. At one time there was a light shining straight into our eyes - perhaps the lighting designer should have tried sitting in our seats.

Fidelio was a good production. All of the singers were great! The set was fascinating. I especially appreciated the young singers who played Marzellina and Jaquino. Great characterization!

Attended another great performance at the COC! Fidelio is set in a modern way - the singing is still great. The subtitle adds to the ease of following. Also, to reduce waste - there are bar codes which you use with your phone to read the synopsis. COC is well organized, clean and impressive.

Very good experience, lovely singing, good presentation. One of Torontos hidden treasured experiences. I’m talking about the free lunch time event on Wednesday Sep 20.

Came for opening night of MacBeth, it was everything I hoped it would be! Stellar performances by all cast members. I was surprised the lead female didn't get quite as loud of an applause as the male lead as they were equally astonishing with their magnificent voices! But that is more about our culture and less about this company. I loved that the focus was on the orchestra and their voices and less about the stage set up. Simple yet exquisite. The general manager and all staff were so pleasant and helpful, they helped make a great night even better! I will return for another excellent experience of the Arts and Entertainment offered by the COC. ... oh and I should add, as a plus size woman, I was impressed that my box seat was comfortable!

The orchestra is top notch. The singing is amazing. This opera house stacks up well against European venues. We saw productions of Flying Dutchman and Tosca. Tosca was perfect in every way. FD had excellent singing and music, but strayed from the visuals you would expect.

I love this theatre. Certainly the best one in Toronto even if ur in the nosebleed. Beautiful decor on every floor and very helpful concierges; I can’t speak highly enough of their customer service.

Very big and beautiful. The seats *ring 4 on the balcony to the right) were a bit cramped and the floor was slanted just a bit giving a dizzy off balance feeling at times.

Beautiful venue for intimate performances. Was here for the Concert Series for Asian Heritage Month in May 🙂.

Business as usual at the COC, wonderful show when they try something knew and interesting with the set design where they tell a wondrous story of love, loss, horror, devotion, secrets, and rage. I'm typically on the third ring (C) a good strata to sit at. Everything was great here: the acting, the music, the intermission snacks, etc. Getting there is usually rough by car. Taking transit is a far less stressful adventure. Getting out is easy of you need to reach the freeway, but city driving is city driving The worst thing about seeing a show at the COC is doing so alone, so makes sure to bring a friend and share the experience. It's a beautiful thing to witness and doing so alone is practically a waste. I hope to see you all there!

Extraordinary experience will go again cor sure. Kind suggestion, it would be great if the subtitles are in french also not only english. Because for new people watching opera it will be easier to follow what is being said. Thanks

Toronto musichack. If you are looking for some free amazing music during the day - check out the Free Concert Series at Four Seasons Center for Performing Arts @ Richard Bradshaw Amphitheater (aka autrium outside of the main opera hall). Make sure to arrive early though. It is first come - first serve, no pre-booking. Was there half an hour before the show & the line up was long, even on a cold winter day I was afraid I would not get in - only standing room was left by the time inside & the doors close sharply at the start of the performance - no latecoming at all. Place was at capacity. But! you get to listen to beautiful music for free with great view of the city rushing by - a real bonus! I think the sessions last about an hour or so. Also, the hall is on top of the subway station, so you don't even need to go outside if you are using public transit & check out Douglas Coupland cone near the entrance - always a treat to see art by creator of Generation X )) very accessible, easy to plan a visit, helpful, if strictish staff & volunteers - all for the sake of efficiency. No snacks or drinks are available inside before or after the performance. Last tip - dont stand or sit on the stairs - ushers will ask you leave 100% - it is a fire code thing. A great way to spend couple of lunch hours.

I enjoyed this opera more than any other I have attended. I loved that it was about labourers and woodlife rather than aristocracy or even artists hanging out in Paris. I loved that the casting of Gold Stripe (do I have the fox's name right) required a woman's voice, it loosened up the relentless binary heterosexuality of traditional opera. I loved the cunning satire: e.g. the politically correct (1924) allusion to the badger's hole being big enough for three families; the use of the word "tyranny" re the woodcutter—probably safe enough not to get anyone hauled off to the gulag, but nevertheless raising the spectre of tyranny. I loved that it was such an orchestral opera, and was for so much of the work as much movement and dance as voice. And I loved the fluidity of the scene changes and the use of scene changers as stage characters. (How did you get that past IATSE?!) And the portrayal of Sharp Ears' death with the dropped banner...which actually allowed me to carry on in denial for some time...no she's not dead, she's not dead, he didn't get her...until the playful young Sharp Ears carries us to the end with cheerful vitality. (And it's all very well that the woodcutter says he'll treat her much better than her mother, but he better not catch that one.) And I know you'll love this at least as much as me: the young couple next to me said that this was their first opera and they loved it!
