I have been going here for the better part of 23 years now. I am not sure why I haven’t left a review until now but today the owner and master Chef did something for me that was amazing. As I had finished and paid for my meal I left my booth to use the restroom. As soon as Chef Lee saw me leave the booth he waved to me and on my way back I stopped and asked him about a dish they used to serve maybe 15-18 years ago. It was a spicy salad that has since been removed from the menu. It was my literal favourite and the thing that got me hooked on this restaurant. Chef Lee told me he will make me a complimentary salad to see if it’s what I remember. So I went back to the table and told my friends we can’t leave yet. The server then brought over a small salad with the spicy dressing like many years ago. I was so happy and then the Chef told me that if it’s not too busy next time I come in he will make the dish for me. It was so nice that he recognized me as a valued customer and took the time to make me something he knew I liked. I am a customer for life at Yumei Sushi. Thank you Chef Lee 🙏🏻

Yumei Sushi is one of the best local sushi restaurants in the East End of Toronto. The staff are really friendly, especially the sushi chefs at the sushi bar. Make sure to say hi to them when you arrive! Also, the sushi is consistently good. Their melt-in-your-mouth sashimi and sushi (the sake/salmon being a favourite), as well as the age tofu are amazing, and are always fresh. I would also recommend the soy myun soup or udon noodle soups; both are perfect for the winter. My family and I have been going here for over a decade now. I would absolutely highly recommend! The ONLY downside I would discuss is service can be a bit slow, but only because they are always busy! Make a reservation if you want to guarantee one of their beautiful Japanese booth seating options, and don’t be surprised if service is slow on nights when the restaurant has every table occupied.

This is a hidden gem in the beaches with the best service and fresh fist at affordable prices! The staff are attentive and treat you like family. If you're looking for an authentic experience you must sit at the sushi bar where Chef Lee will curate the best of the day dishes for you depending on what you're feeling. We love coming here as it feels like a home away from home! Hospitality; check, food; check, vibe; check - there's a reason why it's been a long standing staple in the area!

Came here with my boyfriend to enjoy some sushi, normally we go to Aka Oni which is literally the most amazing sushi ever!! Or Kibo but they don't have dine in right now, so we chose to come here instead. the waiter never brought us soup spoons when asked, never brought me the ice tea I ordered or the water I asked for, the salmon tasted and smelled old on the crazy Maki roll ( way too fishy), the spicy tuna and salmon weren't even close to spicy and they tasted old as well. The shrimp in the tempura was undercooked which could have made me extremely sick due to the fact I'm pregnant and the service was absolutely garbage. Even the avocado was going black and our server said she was new but she was extremely rude, like why be rude to your customers ? Have you never dined in a restaurant before!! SMH. Most bland disgusting sushi of my life Will never be going back.

Excellent attention to detail that permeates from the decor, to the food, to even the lights near the bathroom. Nice small stalls as an option for a nook like experience for dinner. The salmon sashimi was very very good even compared to a recent trip to Tokyo. Had the chef special box which had great selection of food. Highly recommended for the price point.

This was the most amazing Japanese cuisine experience I've ever had the pleasure of having. The miso soup, green salad and special noodle soup compliments of the chef we're absolutely to die for! Service was perfect; there when needed, polite and catered to everything we asked for. My wife and I shared the Maki set (D18) and the Seafood Bibimbap (SS8) and were thoroughly impressed. The rice in the Maki was so fresh and everything was delicious. 6/5 must try

Me and my friend ordered 50 piece sashimi, and two Uni sushi. They were both so buttery and creamy. Definitely would loved to visit again !

We called ahead for reservation, got there got our table and drinks and then proceeded to wait 2 hours for our food, when it came it was not the usual. Our bill came and they didn't even have the decency to take care of the drinks. Uber eats was busy, nice to see they look after phone customers and not the ones that called for reservations. Customer lost.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this incredible sushi spot, and I can confidently say that it's one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever visited. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the chic and modern decor, which gave off a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe. But what really blew me away was the quality of the sushi. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the flavors were absolutely sublime. From the tender and perfectly seasoned tuna sashimi to the inventive and delicious specialty rolls, every bite was a taste sensation. What's more, the service was impeccable. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, making sure that every aspect of our meal was just right. And when we asked for recommendations, he provided us with some truly excellent suggestions that we never would have thought of on our own. All in all, I would highly recommend this sushi spot to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. It's clear that the chefs and staff take immense pride in their work, and the result is truly exceptional. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking for a great meal, this restaurant is not to be missed. Five stars all around!

We ordered takeout which we picked up because there weren’t many Japanese restaurants open past 9pm. The food was good, good quality and prepared well. Our only complaint is how expensive the order was. We paid 57$ plus tax and tip for the food in the attached photo; mixed Tempura, Unagi roll, sashimi and a pop. I had to reduce my order because I originally order this plus 2 miso soups and a dragon roll and the order was going to be 78$ plus tax

This place is our go to for sushi since the 1990's. We have brought friends, family and guests from out of town and they always ask to go back when we get together. The owner and staff are always pleasant while the quality and presentation of their dishes ranks among the best in Toronto.

Went there today with my wife. Got there at 5:48pm and we were seated right away. At 5:55 we ordered tea and our food was ordered by 6pm. The tea came shortly after. We ordered miso soup $3, seaweed salad $8, upper beach Maki roll $27 with no fish eggs and a dancing lobster Maki roll $29 with fish eggs on the side. The seaweed salad and miso soup were both delivered after about 10 minutes. The seaweed salad and miso soup were both delicious and presented very nicely. At 6:25 the server brought us 2 small cups with so Myun soup and said they were on the house and apologized for the delay in getting our rolls. At 6:45 we checked in to see when we might get our food. 5 minutes later the server brought some complimentary dumplings and apologized again for the delay. At 7:02 we received the dancing lobster Maki roll covered in fish eggs. At this point we just wanted to eat, so I scraped off the fish eggs, while my wife ran to ask the kitchen to please not put fish eggs on the other roll. When she got back, we ate the roll. At 7:13 we received the upper beach Maki. There were no fish eggs but it did have a sauce that was not very appealing to us. Unfortunately after the 3rd piece my wife found a small hair as she was about to put it in her mouth. It looked to be either a beard hair or eyelash as it was curled. That was a big turn off and we decided it was time to pay and leave. To their credit, the server did not charge us for the Maki that had hair in it. The service was very good, and although the server did their best, we expected more on the culinary side, given the prices. Overall not a great experience and I don't think we will return, nor would we recommend the experience to others.

Service was the only thing that is good at this place. Food was over priced and awful. We waited for one and a half hour and the food came not as we ordered and a hair right on top. Would not recommend this place!

This is by far my favourite Sushi restaurant in Toronto, I enjoy the food, the staff and the ambience. The sky dome maki rolls are scrumptious and the sashimi is the freshest I’ve ever experienced! This place is really like a second home for me. The staff go above and beyond always and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. My favourite escape from the pandemic as well 💝

Food here is always delicious. I love how the sushi chefs say farewell so loudly and cheerfully when you leave. Sushi restaurants come and go in the Beach, but this place has been around and is always reliable.

Yumei has the best sushi in the beaches. It’s also my kids favorite . The sushi is fresh and I’ve never ordered some that I didn’t like. We love getting the love boat and the sizzling korean style short ribs. My kids love the soups. The only thing I see they can improve on is the ventilation system as I always leave smelling like food.

I’ve been coming here for years and for good reason. Recently came with my girlfriend to celebrate an occasion. Called and reserved a table that was ready as soon as we got there. Mr. Lee and the rest of his staff are amazing. Extremely friendly and courteous. A special shout-out to James for making our dining experience fun and entertaining. The food is delicious and unique, incomparable to other restaurants. Presentation is amazing as my girlfriend pointed out. Thanks for everything!

Came here with my girlfriend for a nice local dinner. Our usual choice is take out at other nearby locations. We asked for iced tea and it never came, no napkins either. Started with Miso, which was good, and the beef sashimi. Next we received the tempura which was extremely oily, and shrimp tasted slimy. Next were the rolls, which I have never had such bland and low quality tasting ingredients. The presentation is great but the fish tasted old. The avocado looked as if it was going bad. I won't be trying it again.

it is worse experience, going never do oder again. That’s how looks like 25$ oder in this place . Quality of ingredients really low. Better order 7$ sushi set in Walmart than Yumei Sushi .
