I don't even know where to begin... actually I do: THERE IS NO PARKING. We booked through RBC travel and the listing clearly says that parking is included. It also says to call 24 hours before check in to confirm your reservation which we did. My girlfriend was assured on the phone that there was parking for "20 dollars" instead of the 12 dollars as advertised in the listing. When she asked about this discrepancy she was told the price "just went up"... fine, whatever - it is Toronto so that's still a good price. We arrived the next day to be told there is nothing but street parking. Sort of a problem given that the streets in the area are busy. When we found our way into the lobby (previous reviews showing the barely visible name printed out and taped to the door handle are accurate included here in the photos) I was told I needed to go online and register for overnight street parking through the city. This requires that you print out a ticket and display it in your window. I said I would have done that in advance had I know there was actually no private parking. He offered to print the ticket for me at least which I obviously had to take him up on. Sidebar: I paid 26 dollars for two nights online. When I came back to print the ticket he said "why did you pay for two nights? I would have maybe had something for you tomorrow"... I'm not confident that's the truth so I feel better about paying less plus at least I knew I had a spot. Checking in was also not ideal. There isn't always someone in the lobby so you have to call the number posted on the door which always says "Back in 5 minutes" but my recent experience tells me that's an inaccurate time frame. The number sometimes disconnects or plays call back music. Sometimes he eventually picks up or calls you back after you've hung up but either way you're waiting it out. I had to go through this procedure after I found street parking and had to come back to the office for him to print the ticket. Now to the room... Ours was definitely not one of the ones featured in the photos. So small. So dirty. No window but a sky light that someone opened without our knowledge during the two days we were there. The floors were filthy and covered in small shards of broken glass. My girlfriend actually cut her foot and we picked up at least five good sized pieces off the floor which you can see in the photos. The walls have faded writing on them and I'm pretty sure the thermostat didn't do anything: the paper instructions he gave us didn't match that unit in our room so you can't actually adjust anything. We saw a room across the hall that had the door open and it looked much better than ours. Unsure how you're able to book that room. At least our bathroom was clean and there was a mini fridge. This area is beautiful during the day but sketchy as hell at night. This is a busy motel: there were children crying all through the early morning and domestic altercations in the wee hours up and down the hallway as people screamed, slammed doors and stormed up and down the stairs. It looks like our door frame had been damaged and then repaired - as if it had been kicked in at some point. My girlfriend and I travel a lot and are very low maintenance: we are no stranger to a less-than-five-star hotel experience but this one takes the cake. I would not come back here. We were desperate for two nights in the city and didn't want to pay 1200 for it so it fulfilled those requirements. Unless you're basically looking for a hostel experience I would book somewhere else.

If you can afford something better please do it. We were naive. We thought that for the price and the location and for a few days it would have been fine, but it wasn’t. We are going to be short but direct. It was dirty! They gave us a room (room number 201) of barely 16m2 when we paid for 27m2. We complained and they did not find a solution. They were even annoyed by us complaining. The room was small, dirty, we even had to ask for clean towels. No window, broken and decaying stove, filthy floor. Hairs on the bedsheets, sink and shower. When the neighbor was showering it sounded like a T-Rex yawning. The condition of the room and the facility were not the only downsides. They didn’t even speak proper English. Please plan in time your stay in Toronto and take something slightly more expensive but more reliable. Don’t go there. They rely on the difficulty of finding a place in Toronto and they do not try to improve their services because there will be always desperate people going there. But if planned in time your stay in Toronto can be better.

An entire one bedroom apartment for the price of a room. Conveniently located. The staff was helpful with everything we needed. If we had one gripe, it's that the edges and corners could have used some elbow grease, though I would call the entire apartment clean, just not 5 star clean. Incredible value especially when staying with 2+ individuals. Can't wait to book this stop for our next visit.

Oh my, the things i have to say about this place.. I found a dirty towel and syringe under my bed. Dead cockroaches everywhere. Staff unwilling to refund,a staff member offered a one night refund, and upon accepting, relocated me to a different room and ceased talk of a refund. Beds unclean with obviously stained sheets and hair of previous occupants in the bed, on the floor, and in the bathroom Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs!

First when we arrived and checked in we found out that parking is an extra $20.00 and we couldn't access our room as our key didn't work. Had to call the office as the reception office was closed and locked (@ 3 p.m. ). The manager was there and promptly fixed the problem. Our room wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either, certainly did not look as big and bright and spacious as depicted online. The air conditioning is super loud but it worked well. The parking area is very small, they have it mapped out to accommodate 7 vehicles, if they were all Fiats or Mini Coopers maybe that work.

Was here for 2 days, good location lots of great food and shops around. Check in/out was easy and the front desk was kind. Only downside to the room was there was no fan/openable window for air circulation, it would get quite warm/musty and we’d occasionally have our room door open to cool down. Sheets were clean but bathroom could use a good scrub. Overall would come again for a short period of time.

We got robbed at Tim Hortons. Graffiti everywhere. The hotel dosent have a sign and the windows are covered in paper?? Its like a third world country insde. Pretty sure we had an illegal sweet as there are no windows in my room, only a sky light 20 feet up you can't get out of in a fire. Dirty rooms, hair and grime everywhere. There was a kitchen but the fridge had a very bed smell, and was very dirty along with the microwave.

It’s what I expected for the price. I do recommend requesting a room with a window in the wall, if that matters to you, our first room only had a skylight, made me anxious, but the gentlemen at the front desk was completely accommodating and found us a room with a window, made sure I was comfortable with it and offered a room with a bigger window if I needed it. (The window was larger than egress so I was content with what he offered) He stood out in the rain to show us where to park, offered to carry our bags. Super polite and helpful. The rooms are not so clean but the sheets are, which is what matters to me. The hotel is bizarre and quirky so it was “an adventure” but we laughed off the oddities and the low budget amenities and not so great cleaning. You get what you pay for and we paid for a 2 star. Beds aren’t too comfy but they aren’t the worst I have slept on either. Cheap accommodations with no frills in a decent location, is what you get. The lay out of the hotel is interesting too. The first room he brought us back outside to the address of the hotel. When I let him know, I needed a window (fear of fire) he accommodated, without hesitation and found a room with a window. If budget matters I recommend this place. If cleanliness, security and perks matter, I don’t. Depends on what your priorities are. We decided to call it an adventure and that’s what it is

This hotel is not fancy and there are aspects of the building and neighbourhood that are a bit run down, and the building itself is somewhat strange. But, it was a very reasonable budget hotel with helpful and friendly staff (the gentleman I checked out with brought me coffee and offered to fix my broken suitcase) who were very accommodating to requests. The room was very large with really high ceilings, which is rare in Toronto, and the price was right. I did not notice any cleanliness issues; my room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The unit featured a functional kitchen, which I value very highly when travelling. It was in a location easy to navigate with public transit and the area was funky and full of interesting restaurants and venues. The water pressure in the shower was excellent and there was plenty of hot water, and the number of towels as well as quantity of complimentary toiletries was generous. It was quiet and calm, and I was very comfortable here. Don't expect the Ritz on this budget, but don't be put off by the bad reviews either. The hotel had idiosyncrasies, sure, and the decor is a little dated, but all in all I had a great stay and staff went out of their way to respect my privacy but make sure that I had everything I needed.

BEWARE!!!!!!!! BUGS ! ROOMS NOT CLEANED BEFORE NEW CUSTOMERS ARRIVE !!! I get that bugs will be almost impossible to remove - even if you are doing the proper steps to remove them at times in a hotel …. This is not the case here. There were bugs everywhere!!!! Both alive and dead …. The best part of the “cozy” room though is the dirty needle under the bed !!!! In a time where everyone is educated on disease control and simple sanitizing this is absolutely disgusting. They were notified of this situation and their best remedy..? Not a refund LOL THEY OFFERED ANOTHER DIRTY ROOM IN THEIR DIRTY HOTEL !!!! Not worth the cheap rate or location … don’t want to be a big dinner or be infected with whatever is not the dirty needles left laying around in their “ clean turn over room” STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! Why are there no supervision on these types of businesses!?!?! SHUT THEM DOWN !

nothing flashy or special but it was relatively clean, comfortable, and safe for the price. if you need a good place to stay on a budget in downtown toronto, this works. We had a room on the courtyard with huge windows and a newly renovated bathroom. I’d go back. Just don’t expect 5 star accommodations.

Dirty hallways & rooms, moldy caulk and grout in bathrooms, broken furniture and fixtures, hair on sheets, roaches, walls not painted in probably 20+ years. The cost is way to high for this disgusting place. They charge you a deposit, which is a joke since the condition of the rooms is so poor in the first place. Location sketchy with homeless people and mentally ill folks roaming the streets. This place is to be avoided!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Dragon Gate Inn for 3 nights while we were out of town for fanexpo, and both agree we would certainly return in the future. The outside was a little concerning upon first look, but our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable! The man at the desk ensured we were happy with it, and even went as far to help us carry our luggage up the flight of stairs. Upon getting comfortable in the room, we were pleasantly surprised to find a microwave, stovetop, mini fridge and clean dishes! The shower was a perfect size, the wifi fast, and the bed extremely comfortable (and I have trouble sleeping in most hotel beds). The ac unit was also a very nice touch, neither of us got too warm overnight and had a restful sleep every night. The location is convenient, right across the street from a convenience store, and not even a 5 minute walk away from the street car. The staff made sure we were comfortable during our stay and were very kind and sweet, and the best part was the price! 5 stars, will certainly be returning whenever we plan on coming back to Toronto!

Amazing stay. Good service, clean rooms. But the best part of this place is the location. Walkable and bikeable, loads of businesses, and two Bike Share Toronto stations within a 3 minute walk. I 100% recommend this place if you are coming to this amazing city.

COCKROACHES!!! Absolute nightmare of a place, ended up having to find a new place to stay at midnight after having discovered that the inn was infested with cockroaches. Cockroaches spread so easily. Definitely don't stay here, because you will be bringing them home with you. The only other hotel we could find at 12 AM was an hour drive out of the city and way more expensive.

DON’T STAY HERE. Called twice to confirm there would be parking included with our booking and they guaranteed it. Showed up and charged us for the room, THEN informed us there was actually no parking. Argued with us about street parking instead of offering solutions, then refused to offer us a refund. They swore at us multiple times and told us it was out of their hands, absolute worst experience with a hotel.

The entire place smells really bad. Blankets very thin There were signs of people cleaning their needles on the pillows and blankets There was no control of the air conditioning Tv is unplugged This is not a hotel, this is not an inn, just a place with apartments that very shady people stay in

This place was disgusting. Not a single thing was clean, spider webs all over the ceiling and corners of the entire room. I killed a spider within 15mins of being in the unit only to find 5 more on the ceiling. This was the nastiest place I’ve ever seen, bed sheets and pillow covers not even washed. Manager wouldn’t refund me even tho I was only in the unit for 30mins. This place should be closed immediately

my friends and i walked out as soon as we walked in. This is gonna be a realistic review, the inside of the room was so gross especially the bathroom the floor was black. especially for a night out i did not feel safe walking in and out of this complex. also, you will be absolutely so confused when you are there. there’s no clear directions there’s a tiny little paper cut out for a sign. for me it felt really ghetto inside, just spend the extra $50 and go to the Sheraton down the street. definitely the most uncomfortable situation i’ve ever been in

Great location and use of space. Comfortable, clean, and cozy. Kitchenette stocked with basic use dishes was a great addition to the room. More clear expectations regarding on site parking would be appreciated for future stays or I would consider parking elsewhere.

Super gross location is u want slumy then this is it. Room is tiny. The check was akward, two people lady & man was eating. This all over the place s Bathroom was tiny, dishes are old and cracked. The coffee machine had water in it already and no coffee offered. Microwave is dirty. Bed is very uncomfortable. Weird skylight too .... i felt unsafe. If u wanta cheap gross hostel... then this is your place Thank god i only stayed 1 night. Will never go back to this hostel. THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL!!! If u want nice go some where eles.

I would leave 0 stars if i could. This hotel is HORRIBLE. I don’t know if it should even be called a hotel. Hair is everywhere, in the bed, in the bathtub, on the ground, EVERYWHERE. The room is not clean. The toilet is clogged. Windows are broken. No reception, we called someone to fix the bathroom they were not even near the hotel. The only exception is that the hotel is in downtown and it’s cheap. But it’s not even worth the stay.

I would not recommend this hotel to any travellers, but especially not to women travelling alone. It is incredibly unsafe and other guests can unlock and enter the room using their own key fob. Me and my friend checked in and I picked this hotel despite the negative reviews because it was valuable. For the price we received two beds, a kitchenette, tv & A/C, and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. The location isn’t the greatest and it was a bit difficult to find the area where we had to check in since the sign was a small piece of paper taped onto the door. Like I mentioned, another guest was able to use their key fob to unlock our door and enter our room. They struggled to do so since we had a makeshift doorstop but with enough struggled they opened the door. The fact that that even happened was enough to make us check out immediately afterwards. OTHER GUESTS SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER YOUR ROOM USING THEIR KEY FOB! We could not receive a refund since the receptionist was not authorized to do so, but waiting for the manager was not an option considering how scared for our lives we felt. I would not book another stay here.

We found this place very adequate for the price. The room did the job of being a place to stay in Toronto that is affordable. It’s located in a very cool strip of Dundas with some decent local restaurants and Kensington Market is within walking distance. It’s close enough to everything and the TTC gets you everywhere you need to go. I would stay here again.

Honestly don't get what all the negative comments are about. This place is nothing flashy, but for the price it's great. Clean, comfy, the location is fantastic and the owner is quiet but friendly. Feels safe and secure. Exactly what I needed! Only complaint was that the skylight blind had broken.

Room: 1 Superior Double Room for 2 nights Liked: Exactly what we were looking for; an affordable place to stay that was safe, in a good location, and access to public transport in order to explore the beautiful city in the day and sleep at night. Located in the heart of Chinatown, it was also around the corner from Kensington Market. Tram and subway stops a brief walk away. Beds were more on the firm side but surprisingly comfortable. The booking deposit was refunded without issue. Parking is limited and cost extra per night (~20 CAD), but it was not street parking and I was not concerned about my vehicles safety. I was satisfied with the provided soap/shampoo, and there were more than enough towels to go around for the two of us. They also had a light, pleasant fragrance. Great shower pressure. Reliable wifi. No issues with excessive noise. Bonus points for being quirky as well, both in the building's shape and the general atmosphere; it did have more of a hostel feel. Were I to do it again, I would book here. Disliked: 1. Room was not overtly dirty, but it could have been cleaner. There were a small amount of stains in the white linens. 2. The website could have specified better that there are a limited number of parking spaces and that it is first come first serve, luckily they were able to accommodate us. Side note: There was a small kitchen and a table but as we did not use it I did not rate it.

This is a comfortable and clean hotel, quite an interesting neighbourhood, lots of places to eat or get drinks as well as shops. The room I had would be ideal for families visiting anyone in Toronto Western Hospital as it's a short distance away.

~350 CAD for 2 nights. They included a small fridge, a microwave oven, a TV, a coffee machine, a bath room with a toliet, and a couple of storage carbinets. If u want to stay close to downtown, save some money, and have an of-average quality room, this should be the choice.

It wasn't the Ritz Carlton but our room was decent and very affordable. No housekeeping services and rarely was anyone in the office. The location was fantastic. I was visiting my son at Toronto Western and it was very close to the hospital.

Do not even try to book ! I’ve booked a room but credit card didn’t get through. I called 3 times to the hotel 2 times they said me that ‘we’ll check what’s wrong and call you back’ 3d time they told me ‘we don’t have time to talk to you ‘ and started calling to other people. The worst costumer service I’ve ever had!!

We stayed from 29th dec to 2jan ... it is fairly good place with kitchen. Seems like 1bhk appt. Has most of the amenities available. The owner is good too, responded quickly. Cons are the name of the Inn is not visible. Carry your own toothbrush-paste, the shampoo with conditioner sachets were there. ( i would recommend to carry ur own shampoo, conditioner and body wash) It was a good stay in reasonable amount.

For what you pay the place isn’t that bad. Some comments are a little extreme to be honest, if you just need a place to sleep for the night then its fine. No its not a nice place, no its not the cleanest, my girl used towels to create paths between the bed and washroom and couch/tv area. We ended up drinking our wine straight from the bottle because the dishes were pretty bad, glasses were so un-used that they were stuck to the shelf. My girl washed them in the bathroom, kitchen had no sink, but we still had no confidence in using them, had this dusty smell to them. The tv had 4 channels, 3 worked. Thermostat needed new battery, and there was some kind of beeping noise in the building somewhere. The bed seemed fine, clean, the bathroom was clean and the parking is in back behind the collective arts restaurant. They got paper signs on the front door, and front desk door. The “back in 5 mins” is a lie, sounds like they been using that sign for months, just call the bottom number, top number is just call back music. They’re nice people, english ain’t their thing but i had no issue checking us in. $100 deposit when you get there, my advice is give them cash so that when you check out there’s no games tryna get refunded.

If you've ever been the adventurous type to go to safe non-gentrified parts of cities or travel abroad and stay in hostels. This is like a five star All-Hostels, the price can't be beat the rooms smell clean as you walk in. There's some age and character to the premises which I absolutely loved not to mention the staff was as cool as it gets. Location is mint, parking for a small twenty.

The worst hotel I’ve been too. I’m currently in pain because the bed I attempted to sleep on felt like concrete. I’m unsure of where you’d even get a mattress that hard. Not to mention the squeaking frame that was just wooden boxes underneath. No blankets, just a sheet. No shower, no window, no parking it was just horrible. If I could rate lower I would.

The room was nice and clean, perfect for two people. The wifi was really bad, I couldn't even load my Instagram feed so I had to rely on my data. The staff were really nice, and the location is great. Highly recommend as a place to sleep and chill between outings. The room also had a fridge and plates/utensils

Owners were very accomodating and kind. You can keep your luggage there before you check in and after you check out. Better than any hotel we’ve stayed at in Toronto. The location is great as its just a 5 minute walk to Chinatown. This place is a go-to with the price you pay, would definitely come again!

  • 3/5 Caroline H. 1 year ago on Google
It’s okay what for what you are paying, the location is great and the place has a lot of potential to be great. It is clear the owner is understaffed. Towels are provided, bathroom had a good shower but shower curtain could be changed and it could do with a deep clean. The “exit” sign in the bedroom is very bright and not that appealing! We were on a budget and this place suited us fine :-)

This quirky inn is an adventure in itself. The exterior shows no sign of being a hotel other than a note stuck on one of the windows directing to another entrance. Once you find the very helpful staff you will be led through a maze of stairways and narrow corridors to your room. The room I got had a full kitchen available but being on the edge of Chinatown you will probably want to sample something more exotic than your own cooking. Price was another reason for the higher rating.

Great 2-3 star budget accommodation. Front desk staff were prompt and accommodating. Our room was tidy, pretty basic but had almost everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The ducted air-con was pretty loud, and it would have handy if there was cutlery in the draws. Otherwise, great location with lots of hip food options in the area.

Private rooms are a fair value. Bathroom and bedroom was clean. Nice to have a kitchenette as even many of the higher end spots do not provide this. Price is fair. Location is good. Owner is friendly. Wifi in this area of town seems a bit on the weaker side though for those travelling for business. But if you are in town and find yourself needing last minute accommodations in downtown this is a good budget choice.
