Knew this place would be good as soon as we arrived. The exterior is unassuming (no sign outside gives it a speakeasy vibe). Super friendly service, we were seated right away and walked through the menu. The interior is eclectic and unique making the meal a whole experience. Food was delicious - we had the moto eggs (must try), moto bun, tuna tartare, and a fried chicken special. Lot’s of options for cans/bottles of sake. Highly recommend checking it out.

Literally a hidden gem. It's very easy to miss this spot. The cocktail I got was called the iggy smalls. I already loved the name. The food was amazing!! It's ideal for sharing. The dino wings are a must have. A dumpling stuffed inside a chicken wing?! Sign me up! Service was great and very friendly. Food came out pretty fast. I also really enjoyed the hot hot tofu. It isn't as spicy. The karaage chicken was alright. A bit too salty and I'd prefer it without bones. But overall, great vibes all around. Very small inside so it can get busy quickly but definitely go!!!

The food is incredible. The menu is split into hot and raw with an excellent selection for each. The highlights of the meal were the karaage wings and the miso steak! The ambiance is perfect. High energy, loud music, great service. We'll most definitely be back!

Eclectic atmosphere, kind of hard to get a table because the space is small and they don’t take reservations. Food is all very good, the miso ice cream was probably the best miso ice cream I’ve had in Toronto. The only thing that was a bit of a miss was that the okra was very tough but the flavour was good. Would give the food 4.7 if I could but rounding it up for 5.

Great spot for drinks and food. Started the meal off with some fantastic cocktails, followed by the moto eggs ‐ the best deviled eggs I've ever had. The Salmon Aburi was amazing, and the hand cone was great. The service was memorable, and our waiter offered many of her favourites as recommendations, and explained each dish in detail. Can't wait to go back.

It's your loss if you decide not to eat at Hanmoto as it was easily one of my favourite and most memorable dining experiences I've had this year. Our server Benny offered us such kindness and everything he brought us we could have ordered again. The stuffed chicken wings were unlike anything I've ever eaten and the presentation is an indication of their creativity and uniqueness. Eggplant was incredible but don't skip the chicken karaage, it was piping hot, tender and crispy. The miso ice cream is life changing and something I will crave forever - I'm glad we didn't say no to dessert. The ambiance, culinary perfection and dedication to amazing service will have me recommending this spot to anyone and everyone in Toronto. p.s. they dont take reservations and seating is limited - additional patio seating available during warmer weather. it's well worth any wait. 🍗🍆🎏🍣

The coolest little spot for Japanese!! Menu is sharing style and everything was so good. The interior was super cool and grunge -y, service was really good. Only downside is that they don’t take reservations so we went early for dinner and seated right away. Love finding gems like this.

I’m a snob when it comes to Japanese food, so I won’t be too harsh. Overall a cute place with cute decor. I know this is an izakaya so anything goes. It has some nice shareable dishes with some nice cocktails. They Need to broaden their sake list and serve hot sake in the winter.

Hidden GEM. The surf n turf handroll was life changing, along with the dyno wings. We also ordered the deviled eggs and miso ice cream (still good, but not my favourite). No resos can be made so show up early and expect a wait!

Friendly staff. Cozy & good vibes. The place is small and they don’t take resos so gotta get there early. Food was good overall. Everything bite size except for the sandwiches. The sandwich was good. The eggs were flavourful. The handrolls were exceptional.

First, I love the vibe and aesthetics of the restaurant. However, the music is fairly loud, so you might have trouble conversing sometimes. Expect a wait when you come as well. I was told a 45 min wait or so for a group of 4. Thankfully we waited for only 20-25 minutes. The food was delicious. I loved the Dyno Wings. It was terrific, and I can see why it’s highly rated on the reviews here. The aburi salmon and katsu bun were also delicious. The only thing is… I couldn’t really taste any pork belly in the katsu bun. Next, I was very surprised by the miso icecream. I didn’t know what to expect. It was a bit salty and sweet, but not too much. Overall, I enjoyed the foods. I would have given this 5 stars but the food is quite expensive for the small portions you’re eating. I went with a group of 4 and we were still hungry despite ordering multiple dishes.

lovely atmosphere, very small so the wait was long. would definitely go back for the eggs! thought the flavour profile of the dyno wings were a bit odd, (possibly smokiness of bacon in the gyoza filling??) not terrible but unexpected, probably wouldn’t order again. staff were really nice, impressed!

In an unassuming doorway off Dundas is the quaintest little bar with amazing shareable plates. The decor is fun and moody. The staff are friendly. The menu offers a variety of textures and flavours. The dishes that stood out were the Dyno Wings (delicious frankenstein-ed meat) and Okra (a heaping plate).

Experience was great with the atmosphere/vibe combination with food and service. Shoutout to our server Trust for helping with food recommendations. The menu was also straight forward with food being organized into a hot and cold section. Then also all the sake, and drinks listed first of course. Me and my partner had the -Salmon Aburi definitely worth a try -Moto Eggs which was like a izakaya styled twist on deviled eggs (really good) -Moto Wings which were pork stuffed chicken wings. Mostly all of it was edible besides the wing tip. Would come back here again for a drink and a quick bite.

Great food. The salmon was very fatty. Hand roll squid with the wasabi was amazing. The miso ice cream was very well done. Got the miso saltiness, crunch stuff on top and green tea powder (maybe?). Service is good. Of course it'll feel like hell if you come late. They have very limited tables. We went right at opening time on a rainy winter evening, so minimal lineup. Solid place, no sign no nothing. Just a hole in a wall.

Hit this hidden gem spot with my co-workers the other night. Pretty much we tried everything on the menu. The food was fresh and served quickly. My favorite was the enoki mushrooms with miso butter, low key item but amazingly delicious! Small spot definitely come early or give it a wait. 110% worth it.

Hanmoto has a junk-shop decor and it’s pretty small with dim light inside. I’m not a big fan of this vibe. Speaking of food, the only thing that stands out is the eggplant with fried beets. It’s an interesting combo on color, flavour and textures. It’s definitely the must try. The okra came out to be too dry and burnt. The steak has too much miso sauce.

Absolutely loved this place. Super cute interior and vibe and really good food. Would reccomend the tuna tartar and torched salmon dish they were excellent. Dynowings were overrated in my opinion and I would skip the eggplant dish.

We went to Hanmoto for an early dinner Friday night. The place is tiny and the seats are uncomfortable, but the food was so delicious. The flavors are well balanced and although the portions are tapas style, you are good with 4-5 plates for 2 people. The two cocktails we tried weren't my favorite. Overall, I enjoyed it and would come again.

Small place that I would have never noticed if it wasn’t on Maps. Enjoyed the atmosphere, I think it kind of imitates the Japanese Izakaya drink and eat places. Was cool to find this in Toronto. Food was great.

If there are more stars to give this place, I would! It was really fantastic. The Miso Steak was my absolute favorite. It was so perfectly cooked with a nice amount of fat so also a good cut. But what was so special was the taste. I think they said they marinate it in miso in vacuum or something; amazing! But also the deviled eggs, the Moto bun with chicken and the tofu were super delicious. A must visit if you are in Toronto! There are no reservations and no number to call so be prepared to be on a waiting list for 60-90 minutes. They even call you from a private number so you don’t know their number! So nice, so special and so friendly. We were very happy!

The food was delicious it came out quickly. Atmosphere feels like you teleported to Japan. We went on a Friday night it was really busy. They took down our phone number and called us when seats were open which was nice. There were a lot of other places popping that night that we checked out in the meantime.

I loved this spot. The music was on point, and our server, Micha, was absolutely wonderful. 10 out of 10 would go back soon.

Hanmoto is one of my favourites in the city! The vibe inside is lively and the food is amazing. The Dyno wings are a must get item. Along with the Dyno wings we got the egg plant, the tofu dish (one of our favourites), the curried bun and the salmon dish. Great to order a few dishes and share them with the group. We also split a bottle of sake which was well priced. They do not take resos and it’s small inside so prepare to wait for a drink when you arrive!

Super cool Japanese spot that really has an authentic izakaya-like feel to it. The ambiance is great and the service is also great. The food is all absolutely delicious - the chicken wing dumplings are massive, but they are a must try. The miso steak was also good and the salmon aburi tasted so fresh. All their drinks are also delicious and super refreshing. My friend wanted a mocktail and our server asked her what kind of flavours she likes and made her a delicious concoction. It’s a little tight on space, so you may have to wait, but a must-try!

Have returned, Would Recommend. (Not sure why my review was taken down) Really cool vibes with cosy interior, great cocktail selection and focused Asian inspired menu and takes AMEX - what more do you need? Stuffed Wings - really delicious although kinda pricey. Enoki - mixed, once it was too salty and once it was well balanced. If they get it right, it's quite delicious. Fried "Karaage" - good quality though probably skippable for something else. Tuna Tartare - was okay and I get the concept but seaweed becomes soggy and unstable immediately so need something else as the "holder". Overall - really decent implementation of a new wave izayaka. Takes AMEX. Toilets need renovations. Please give @trebzheng a follow for more :O

It’s very small inside there, u will sit very close to each others table. But everything, the vibes, food and staff was amazing. Hands up to this place.

I would have given them 5 stars because my initial experience was amazing. the food was flavourful and surprisingly put together very quickly. However just when getting home I noticed an itch in my throat and it progressivly got worse. Later at 4am I got really sick, and I still don't know what exactly triggered it but all I know is that it happened after eating here. I had the moto bun, katsu bun (half of both) the dyno wings and the moto eggs.

Wow wow wow! Hidden Gem, literally! We are a foodie family and have eaten at some of the finest and best restaurants this city has to offer but Hanmoto, the staff, ambiance blows the doors off!! You get great food. A cool vibe. Casual setting. Incredible chefs. Great music. Mouth watering bites with intense and bursts of flavours. You are probably wondering what we ordered? EVERYTHING on the menu, with the exception of the eggplant and chicken curry dish because we literally had no more room to eat. Thank you Hanmoto for a great food experience.

Super cute spot. Food was so good and came out super quickly. Very chill spot and wasn’t too busy when we got there.

Overall great experience, really liked the vibe and coziness. On the menu side, it's definitely something else; fusion of art and food. Only things didn't come to my taste were eggplant (too sweet for my buds) and mushrooms (too chewy); the rest were amazing.

No reservations and seating is limited. But this hole in the wall is one of my favorite spots in the city. It's not cheap, but the food and vibes are great. Their stuffed wings and deviled eggs are a must have. Highly recommend and would choose this over going to an izakaya any day.

If the bar seating by the chefs window is available, I highly recommend grabbing them. Getting to watch the chef cook and plate was an experience in itself. My favourite dish of the night was the eggplant, perfectly cooked and seasoned with fun textures, just satisfying bite after bite. The tofu fell a bit flat for me due to the texture of the tofu itself, it was advertised as silken but had a powdery-firm texture which caused a weird mouth feel. That being said there were so many great options on the menu I'll have to come back to try more. The portions are generous and the drinks were fantastic as well.

This Japanese eatery deserves a standing ovation 👏 Served by Freddie, their passion and expertise showcased what a dining experience should be. The space is rustic, energetic, yet intimate. We had the eggs, tofu, mushroom, salmon, fried chicken and ice cream. Each dish was daring and playful in the presentation and pairing of ingredients. Most dishes were full of flavours but the stripping back of the miso ice cream was a highlight. It's one of those dishes that suggest simplicity but the balance, textures, technique and execution are malicious. Add this place to your 'hidden gems'.
