Seokjin H. — Google Maps 5/5

Built in the 12th century as the residence of the Trencavel viscounts, the castle was transformed into a royal stronghold after Carcassonne came under French royal control in the 13th century. Located within the Cité, it has its own walls, towers, and dry moat, creating an additional layer of defense inside the fortified city. Traces of the former Trencavel residence remain within the complex, while reconstructed wooden hoardings along the walls show how the castle was defended in the Middle Ages. Much of the castle was restored under Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. Note: A ticket is required to visit the Château Comtal and access the visitor route along the inner ramparts.

The castle within the medieval city is a must visit, it is included with the wall (ramparts), walk, there is a bit to see spread out, however, an enjoyable experience.

This is the most extraordinary medieval world city. It has a UNESCO world heritage listing and has been restored to a very high level of quality. Your €13 entry fee gives you access into the Palace and also the ramparts. The construction of this protective wall and the buildings with in it is astounding. The walk on the ramp parts takes about an hour, and there are quite a few steps up and down to get to experience levels. There are also a few levels in the palace, but there are plenty of rest stops along the way. Be sure and have your camera and take your time as there is so many beautiful pictures to be had of the ancient city, but also Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside. On a beautiful day, the views are astonishing. This is a highly recommended to her to take. There are also audio guides and you can also get your own tour guide but wander around by yourself is wonderful.
