Disgusting Experience, Rude staffs and Rude Manager Sunday afternoon me and my wife invited our friends for a drink and meal at this rotten pub! One of the table legs has been broken and we just asked a member of staff to check the table but he just ignored and start to joking about that!!!! My friend asked manager to check the table which is not safe to use but the manager rudely said there wasn't any problem with this table before, probably you broke the table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The table lag has been broken before and the just tried to keep the leg stick to table by putting some beer mats!!!! I am honestly disgusted about how they spoke/treated us, very disappointing.

Amazing pub in a very idyllic location close to Dunham Massey park. The young owner who lives on site (lucky guy) made us feel incredibly welcome and we spend a few hours over a lovely leisurely lunch in the sun in the front garden. Highly recommended and Hasta la vista πŸ™

Spent bank holiday Jan 2nd 2023 here with my family for our last lunch out. I'm giving it a 4 star for its fabulous location, inspiring building and stunning, warm interior, it's the perfect country pub. The food was good and very tasty, only thing to mention for me was I would have liked a little more flavor. Kids meals are very good and they have a good choice for children. The service began very well indeed and I must add always has been in the past, although when we asked for the desert menu it took an easy 10 minutes to arrive, then when no one approached and a further 15 minutes past we decided to get the bill and leave and not have desert after all as we expected a lengthy wait. I will note the pub was not over busy at this point and I feel this was only a slight oversight from staff on the floor. Finally the beer, local, and tasty in particular the Big Tree amber ale. Worth a visit.

Visited as a family before going to the lights at Dunham Massey - so glad we did. Excellent menu choice, very friendly and attentive staff and the best Turkey dinner I’ve had in a long time. Can’t recommend enough

Had lunch with family at the Axe and Cleaver the last week in August, following a birthday. Not been there for at least a year. It appears to be under new management. The menu much improved, along with the chef. Had a very good lunch, the food was delicious. The sea bass was outstanding. Good service. Let's hope it stays that way.

Went for lunch on a whim. Nothing was too much trouble for lovely staff. They were very friendly. The food when it came was amazing and enjoyed it very much. There is a good range of beers and wines available. I will definitely be going again for dinner. There is a range of Specials as well which looks very appetising.

Nice meal out at @axe_cleaver tonight... I had the very tasty boneless beef rib with some very rich gravy, mash and veg followed by a gorgeous bakewell tart and custard...! Tried the @jamesonuk orange whisky...! Very nice indeed...! SO nice I even created a new drink of a hot chocolate with a shot of the orange whisky in and Terry's chocolate orange would be jealous how nice it tasted...! Even had to call at Tesco on the way home to grab a bottle to have some more when I got home...! Thanks to the smiling Beacon Brian (Dawn) serving us with a smile and pleasant conversstion...! (Helping us top up the drinks bill along the way...!) Great food, great service, great company...

Not been to this place for a number of years but on return it did not disappoint. Fabulous early lunch, booked on line we had wonderful service from staff. The food was superb. No waiting time it came out piping hot with lovely service. Great place I mean really enjoyable place to eat. Enjoy it. We will be back with no danger.

Very lovely, would definitely come again. Great menu, good options, very affordable, kind staff. Only feedback was my partners mushroom wellington only had 4 mushrooms in. Other than that, top notch.

The food was nice. Fish and chips were a very good size and filling. However in the sea bass, scallops and king prawn meal, it seemed that the king prawns were on a serious diet, and we're in fact shrimps. This was disappointing as my friend was looking forward to that particular combination of flavours. This also made the meal an insufficient amount to satisfy his hunger. Overall, pleasant experience, just did not appreciate the false advertising.

As a family, we really love this restaurant and have been visiting for many years. We decided to book a evening meal on the spur of the moment and we were so glad we did. The evening was top notch. The food was excellent, the staff were attentive and lovely and the atmosphere was cozy. Such a lovely evening. Well recommended. A good varied menu of food and drink. Definitely one of our favourite places to dine out. Thank you.

One of my favorite country pubs. Loads of parking spaces, very cozy ambiances and the food is pretty good as well! I love that they offer a mini cake with a coffee for dessert as an option because sometimes that is all I can eat after a big Sunday lunch.

Only ever been for lunch here but it's a great place to come nestled in Dunham village surrounded by countryside. It suits it's surroundings. Good service, solid menu and reasonable selection of drinks. Fine for parents, grandparents and kids. Chef and Brewer chain of pubs. Can eat outside.

Had a loverly mixed grill and steak here. Staff were very nice and friendly. Baked camenbert starter is a brilliant starter to share.

What a great place to visit. Food is served to a high standard and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend and well worth a visit especially to enjoy a glass of mulled wine by the roaring fire on a cold December day!!

Great atmosphere! Been coming here for decades and have always loved it. It had a face-lift not too long ago but it still retains a lovely pub atmosphere. Great food options and drinks selection. Very friendly service and Paul is always very welcoming! Highly recommend!

Went for Christmas lunch. Food was delicious πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹. Turkey was juicy, Yorkshire pudding nice and crispy and roasted potatoes were just like homemade. Definitely will go back again

Love it here, warm and welcoming and great food. Lovely at Christmas time and lovely decorations. Really helpful and friendly staff, special thanks to Alison and Paul who went above and beyond yesterday. Highly recommend .

I think this would be a great place to go in the summer , with a garden and next to the canal and plenty of parking spaces. We went friday night and the food was lovely, but there weren't many people in there and it was empty by 10 pm. On a Friday night. Come on, guys, fill the pub, give it some atmosphere. We don't want it closing. As a suggestion, maybe some live music would get people in. We would then go more often.

What a gem of a pub! Just popped in for a quick drink before heading to xmas lights at Dunham Massey and am so glad we did. Beautifully, tastefully decorated, ultra friendly staff and so warm n welcoming. Felt jealous of the people having a xmas meal. Had non-alcoholic as well as regular mulled wine (the latter on tap, amazing!) available. Will definitely return.

Had a family meal here after going pumpkin picking, 6 adults and one toddler, not been here before but was very happy with choice, clean and warm, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Had a slight wait to start, but to be fair they were very busy. Good menu selections and specials, we all had different starters, mains and puds, and all very satisfied, good selection of drinks at the bar, and final bill very reasonable. All in all a good day, will definitely go again πŸ‘.

Had a walk at Dunham Massey before our meal. Plenty of choice on the menu. Fabulous meal, piping hot and good portions. Average prices. All staff very friendly yet very professional. Will definitely be returning.

We booked a wake for approximately 25 people and were extremely pleased with everything the A & C did for us. Alyson and her team could not have been more helpful. An excellent buffet at a reasonable price means I'd certainly highly recommend this establishment. Thank you again for looking after our guests.

Very nice meal in attractive surroundings. The squid starter was particularly excellent; a lovely light batter and no "chewy" bits. The wine is also extremely well priced. It's not easy to get a bottle of Marlborough of that quality at any restaurant for the price we paid. If I lived here I'd definitely make it a regular.

Absolutely great experience. Arrived for late lunch with our 4 year old and some friends. Staff were amazing, especially with our 4 year old. Going the extra mile to appease his tantrums with an ice lolly and even nipping to get vimto for him to drink. To match this incredible service the food was great. Everyone had a lovely meal and it was priced really affordably too. Could not recommend this place enough.

Lovely environment and very friendly service from equally friendly staff. The food however (mine at least) left something to be desired. The crust on my pie could have taken a direct hit from a 500 lb bomb! I will go again, but avoid anything with a crust!

Visited Sat 23rd Oct after pumpkin picking. The team here were wonderful and went above and beyond with a picky 4yr old wanting an ice lolly. The food was exceptional and well priced. Will definitely be back!

I am appalled at the terrible service and and communication from this restaurant along with very questionable cooking. As a part of a family meal I ordered duck, all the meals were brought and I was brought chicken. I told them I ordered duck and they took it away. At this point a different waitress came over and said they didn't have any duck. I wasn't told there wasn't any duck when when I ordered, if they had said that I would have ordered something completely different. So I was forced to have the chicken or wait a long time and hold up everyone else's meal. To add insult to injury the meal was very overcooked, the veg were mushy and the chicken was so overcooked as to be tough and tasteless. I actually think the meal had been cooked for someone else earlier and reheated. Avoid!

Great menu choices for adults and kids and a nice environment. Serving staff were efficient and friendly. I was impressed with the quality of the food. My Sunday lunch was divine.

Having held a family wake today at The Axe and Cleaver I can whole heartedly recommend this venue for other similar events you might need to hold. Food lovely and plentiful. Staff attentive but discreet and good value for money. Many thanks to all at the venue.

We had an amazing family meal at the Axe and Cleaver this past weekend. We were a large group and of course split across tables. Everyone’s meals were amazingly tasty and service was brilliant. Will be going back.

Went to a family gathering, after a funeral. The buffet was excellent, plenty of tasty, hot food. We were let down by a taxi company so I went to the bar and spoke to the girls, asking which company they used. Without further ado, I had 2 members of staff offer to take us home!! ,we accepted gratefully. I want to thank Sam especially for going above and beyond for us. Fantastic service!!
