During
the
low
season
the
place
was
empty,
quietl,
calming.
Western
Sicily ,
with
its
Arabic
lines
and
atmosphere,
has
the colors
and
scents
of
Africa . The
history
of
the
area
is
linked
to
the
sea. Its
cities
are
ancient
trading
ports
surrounded
by
small
fishing
villages
and
its
landscapes
are
enchanting
white
salt
plains
that offer dreamy
sunsets
.
The
port
city
of
western
Sicily
, Trapani ,
also
called
the
city
of
the
two
seas,
lies
on
a
crescent
of
land
that
juts
out
into
the
sea
with
two
peaks
dominated
by
the
Torre
di
Ligny
and
the
Lazzaretto.
Due
to
its
strategic
location,
ancient
Drepanon
was
first
an
Erice
warehouse
and
then
a
Phoenician
commercial
port. The
city
subsequently
became
a
Roman
province,
but
it
was
the
three
centuries
of
Arab
rule
that
scarred
the
city
the
most .
