Kanniya Hot Springs are the natural wonders of the area. There are 7 square wells located quite close to each other. They are quite shallow just about 3-4 feet deep and one can clearly see the bottom of the wells. The depth of the well is such that the water will run out by drawing 10-15 buckets from it. The temperature is considerably high but varies slightly from one spring to another. According to the legend, this is the place where King Ravana carried out the last rites of his mother. When he was unable to find water to duly perform the rites, he pierced his sword into the ground seven times in anger which has later emerged into the hot springs. These hot springs get the name 'Kanniya' after his mother. The very hot water cooled down to the present degree when Ravana's anger calmed down. Since then, Kanniya Hot Springs are used for performing last rights in Sri Lanka

Nice place to hangout. Each well consists of warm water at different temperatures and has consistent supply. Nearby from the Anuradhapura Trincomalee road, walkable distance.

Google Maps isn't entirely reliable to guide you to the location, so asking the locals or following the signs are your best options. There's a temple and a mosque nearby, as well as plenty of parking space available, which is free of charge. You can find loads of mini stalls selling toys, hats, drinks, and so much more. You do have to pay for the tickets to enter the place. All seven wells' temperatures were nearly the same, which may be due to certain times of the day. The place could use a lot more maintenance to preserve the island's history, and the washroom facilities were of very bad condition.

Great experience, hot wells for a bath but not very clean or european style. It is not possible to enter the well but you draw water with a bucket and pour it on yourself. You can wash yourself with a shampoo if you like. Rather quick adventure, quite cheap, we rode on bicycle from Trincomale.

Loved it. Historically Great place to bath to remove bad deeds of self! Sad to see embroiled in religious tussle among communities.

Very sunny and hot area. There are lots of street shops beside the road. You must definitely try Palmyra juice. Don’t use the shortcuts to go there only use the main road
