Small but nice aquarium. You will need 60 to 90 minutes to see everything ...Highlight of the Polaria is the seal feeding which takes place 3x per day, last 3:30pm. Aquarium closes at 4pm. The fish feeding is also quite interesting. And there is a 120 degree cinema that shows 3 different movies. Public Parking is available in front of Polaria. Cost approx. 2,1 EUR per hour. If this was helpful , please give a thumb up. Thanks.

I had a ticket through the culture pass I purchased. I would have never come here otherwise (or to the Polar Museum). It's a small aquarium. Staff is very nice. sadly the gift shop was the best part. The tanks look murky, small and uninviting. Information is provided in English and Norsk. Movies are nice and informative. Worse part for me was seeing 5 seals confined in a really small aquarium. Low ceiling, no natural light whatsoever or fresh air. It's just wrong and very sad. They are left there for 12-16 hours a day by themselves once the aquarium is closed. I get so agitated with the conditioned feeding circus show "turn around get a fish" "clap get a fish" "play dead get a fish" etc. I left at the middle of the feeding. The rest of the space at the aquarium is small and very basic. Paid parking only. Bathrooms available. Coat and lockers available. An hour is plenty. I do not recommend it. Go on a Fjord cruise or whale watch cruise you'll enjoy mammals and local animals in their natural habitat the way it's supposed to be.

Cute seals, and an interesting! You can learn a lot about global environmental problems and see with your own eyes what is happening now and what happened in the past 30-40 years, how much ice melted, how much the level of water raised and how quickly wild animals losing their environment.

Experience the wonders of seals from Norwegian northern seas of Svalbard in their new found habitat in Tromsø, the biggest city in the artic. You also have the opportunity to experience the artic animal life in 3D auditorium. A good place for family and friends outing. Make a date next time you in the city of Tromsø.

Its beautiful and unique building. The staffs are so friendly and they will inform you when is the time for seal feeding and time for the cinema that shows about some short movies. Basically its a small aquarium exhibition about Nordic sea animals. They have several fishes and seals, and they put the detail description on each of them which is interesting. The small cinema shows 3 short films about the Northern Lights, Svalbard, and an the animals in the aquarium. You should see the seals feeding. They are so cute. Best time to go there is on weekdays so it wont be so crowded.

A very interesting exhibit of Arctic fauna. I find the aquariums beautifully and realistically recreated. The seals are a top draw, but the other exhibits are interactive and educational. A must-see place if you want to know the fishes of the Norwegian coasts.

This is a great place to visit while in Tromsø. Each tank has information about the sea life that inhabits each tank; with photos and a description of each inhabitant. Next to the main seal tank there is a large screen to interact with. You can see lots of information about the type, age and characteristics of each seal living at the aquarium. The seal feeding is a must watch, and that is done at certain times of the day. You can also see the seals and fish from different angles, as there are cutouts at various points to peak through. There are a couple different levels to explore with ramps available for easy access, and there is a lift available if needed to get to the upper level. This is a wonderful place to visit, for those young children and adults. Well worth a look. The aquarium also has a nice gift shop on the way out.

The museum is very nice. You can see several live seals there and attend feed show. There is a cinema with aurora and Svalbard movies. The best movies I've seen in whole Norway. Seal pole is going to be even larger soon. Worth to see!

I highly recommend this aquarium, especially the backstage/private tour which you get with the Seal Sponsor Package. You are able to select one of the seals in the aquarium to spend one-on-one training and feeding time with (along with one of the staff members, of course) and it is absolutely worth the price. I'd like to mention that what you pay goes directly towards purchases for items that are needed to help the seals. We were told that some things they've been able to buy with funds they've received were an ice machine (the seals love to eat ice) and many of the toys you will see them play with. I got to spend time with Loffen, a sweet little male harbor seal who recently became a father. He was so intelligent, playful, and even gave me kisses on the cheek. I was told he can be shy sometimes, but not that day. You can really see just how intelligent these animals are when you get to interact with them up close. Another seal (Mai San the Bearded Seal) let me feed her some ice, which was such a joyful time for both of us I like to think. As for the exhibit tour we received from Atanas, we also found it to be incredibly informative. He was so thorough and gave us great information on all the various species. We had such a wonderful time and are already looking forward to coming back to Tromsø again in the future and will be sure to stop at Polaria when we return. All of the staff were so kind. Please don't hesitate to go here and if you can, give the Seal Sponsor Package a try. You will not regret it! Thank you for this experience, Polaria!

Its a very small aquarium. But still its worth visiting for the beautiful seals there. They feed the seals thrice a day. So make sure to go for the time when seals are fed.

Polaria in Tromso, Norway is an architectural marvel that perfectly represents ice sheets in its design. While the interior is beautiful, featuring seals and a few exhibits, the variety of things to see is somewhat limited. However, the panorama area offers an enthralling short documentary on Svalbard's wildlife, which made the visit worthwhile. Overall, Polaria is a captivating and unique attraction that's worth a visit.

This is a small aquarium that focuses on the arctic sea life around Norway. The exhibits are well done with easy to see fish and animals and detailed and interesting descriptions. The theatre offers 3 short films highlighting the region including the Northern Lights, Svalbard, and an insider’s view of the aquarium. Tourist buses arrive around the three daily seal feeding and training sessions. Best to time your visit to end with the seals so the other exhibits are less crowded.

Adv: The aquarium shows different animals that are used to live in the arctic area, and allow you to see the beautiful of coral reefs. You can walk under the water and see sea dogs different types of rare fish swimming above you. There are many displays that show many Arctic islands including their nature and animals. Also, the aquarium provides scientific information through different ways like interactive screens, recorded audio, games, etc. From there you can have ticket to see an old ship that was used in fishing. Also there are cafe and shop for souvenir. Disadv: There is no real polar bear, only artificial one.

One of the best tourist destination in Tromsø and very perfect for families with kids too. There were seal feeding and training shows that we enjoyed a lot watching. Very intelligent creatures indeed. Aside from it, there were also many big fish tanks and aquarium to explore and a nice souvenir shop

Great little aquarium. The seal feeding is very entertaining and you really get the feeling that they care about their animals. Would recommend for cold or rainy days.

Gives a good idea about what's going on in the artic area due to climate change. Personally I am not so fond about animals doing tricks for our amusement, but this show was modest and will keep the animals in shape by earning their food performing.

I visited Polaria on 1.10.21 after becoming a gold sponsor for harbour seal Lyra! I had the opportunity to meet the seal trainers, see behind the scenes of the aquarium and, best of all, meet the seals! The 1-year seal sponsorship also includes updates every few months - which I at first thought would be a simple newsletter but it turns out to be a video and text update - with training clips and news about each seal. The great news was that the past updates are also accessible once you are a sponsor - and its a joy to hear about the seals and see how well they're being looked after and trained. Meeting Stine, the head trainer, and getting to ask all the seal-related questions I had was brilliant. I not only got to meet Lyra, but was able to play different games and feed her too. The seals are really stimulated and very much in charge of what they want to do and at no point did I get an impression that they were unhappy or bored! I'd highly recommend the experience and can't thank the staff at Polaria enough for making me feel so welcome and for making it the best time. It was a real dream come true for me, and it exceeded all expectations. I hope to return again in the future and renew my sponsorship :)

Fun little aquarium with lots of unique wildlife and fish. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and if you time it right you can come during feeding. All the exhibitions have information about what they are showcasing.

Very cozy and small museum with an interesting way of explaining how humans affect the entire planet. I think this is the most important part of the museum, to reflect on our behavior and our choices (note aside: sadly not many read or pay attention to anything but that's how it is nowadays, nobody reads in detail 😭). Cinema: The cinema part was also a nice distraction and a bit of a break from the entire crowd (it was 11:30am on a Thursday and it was super crowded). I suggest telling people beforehand to stay quiet and respect the show though, it was a bit too loud and difficult to enjoy the spectacular scenes. Feeding animals and playing: A highlight ✨ very cute. Love how they present them and show how smart they are. Store: Good 👍🏻 an opportunity to buy everything, from the museum and from Norway. It's worth a visit, with or without kids, it's very small, so expect it to last no longer than 2 hours but it is in my opinion so well presented (ecology, fish, environment issues, humans, food chain, etc).

Nice museum, won't take too much time to go through, 2 small videos - on Svalbard and Northern Lights - and you can watch the seals being feeded..

I have been to the Polaria for the first time today and another time will definitely follow. My brother and his wife who live close to Tromsø, gave me a seal sponsorship for my birthday and I got to meet one of the four amazing seals, the bearded seal Bella. The Polaria is not too big but you can spend some hours there. We watched two beautiful movies in the cinema and learned a lot about the animals in the arctic and the northern lights. The staff is exceptionally nice and answered a lot of our questions, while explaining about the life of the animals they have there. Five stars. See you again next year, when we will be sponsoring Lyra too. Thank you for this amazing day and see you. Greetings from Germany :)

The exhibition is mainly an aquarium, a pool with seals and a cinema with some movies over the wildlife of the northern Norwegian region. We would've loved to see more stuff over the Polar and it's climate and the research work performed there. The seal show is three times a day and quite fun if not too crowded.

Definitely check if you happen to be in Tromsø! Between exhibit videos, interactive things and watching the seals feeding and training session, some 2:30 hours were good.

Small place, not a lot to see when it comes to the aquatic life. The seals are their main attraction, but it's nothing impressive if you've seen seals before. The rest of the aquarium is small and outdated. The place is great for rising awareness of the melting ice in the North Pole and the effects that this will have in the coming years. Educational and good for families with kids, but I wouldn't recommend otherwise.

A wonderful half-day trip destination if you are in Tromsø. I can definitely recommend it to anybody and especially families with kids. For me personally this was the highlight of my Tromsø visit. The aquarium in of itself is not that big, in regards to large animals/mammals it houses 2 harbour seals and 2 bearded seals. The bearded seals are rarely kept in captivity, so this is a unique chance to take a glance at their beautiful "mustaches" that give them the name bearded seal. There is a seal feeding 3× a day, which I suggest you should not miss out on! They have some smaller water tanks which house some smaller fish, starfish and shellfish. The entire place is kept at a chilly temperature so the animals feels comfortable, so I can recommend that people who run cold easily, should bring a vest with them. The aquarium offers some interactive learning stations for their guests and a cinema which shows 3 different short movies on repeat through out the day.

A nice but fairly small aquarium, that is currently being extended so some parts are closed. The nice thing is all the exhibitions are arctic sea life. The panoramic cinema is very informative so is the Seal training and feeding. The entrance price is very reasonable. It is worth a visit.

I was excited to go there, but once i got there unfortunately it wasn’t wow. The lady from the entrance gave no information whatsoever, not even which way should i go. Inside there is not that much to see , the aquarium and some other things. There is a cinema inside where they play some short movies , that was cool.

If you have experienced before a big aquarium (like Valencia) this is a small aquarium but its cute! If you are lucky you can see the seal feeding which is fun! The ticket’s price is ok

  • 4/5 Jan M. 1 year ago on Google
Great place if the weather is bad. Otherwise I wouldn't mind to miss it. If you have kids, they'll love it as they can explore sea life and run around. You can even touch some anemones and sea stars. Panorama cinema was probably cool 20 years ago, nowadays some videos are quite outdated. Seal's feeding is not a show, so don't be disappointed. They perceive it as an actual feeding with respecting the animals (which is positive). Might get pretty crowded when weather is bad. Movies are projected every 30 minutes. 3 short movies are rotated. Feeding is 3x a day.

A very small aquarium, but to be fair I volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I'm just used to a large aquarium. I did enjoy watching the feeding/training session of the seals, though. Overall, you'll spend an hour there, maybe an hour and a half if you watch the auditorium programs.

  • 4/5 Holly G. 1 year ago on Google
We enjoyed this small aquarium focused on local arctic sealife. We thought it was interesting, and seeing the seals being trained was good. Everything looked well cared for.

in a modern architecture building you find a very beautiful aquarium. the top are the pool with seals, your can pass under it an see them swimming. the shopping is cozy and there is a coffee shop too.

What a wonderful experience. Its a small aquarium but its the northern most aquarium ! A bit pricey but the seal feeding was definitely worth it.

It's a very nice place, especially if you are with kids, the highlight of Polaria is the ability to see how the seals are fed and their tricks, which is really fun to watch even for adults.

Great place to visit in Tromsø but make sure to go during the seal feeding! It is a nice place to take children if you have any.

  • 5/5 Andras S. 2 years ago on Google
Small but very informative. It's woth a visit, despite of an expensive entrance fee (for seniors is reduced). Seals' feeding is short but must see it. Films are also shorts but on a very huge screen about the life in Svalbard and Aurora Borealis. Aquarium is interresting.

  • 5/5 Ajay D. 2 years ago on Google
Amazed with the training activities and skills of the seal in the museum and also good to know about the living creatures found in the northern hemisphere and changing climate in Arctic region. The premiere of northern light in the theatre was worth it watching. The outer architecture of the building was also awesome looks like books in the rack. 😁😊
