Great pub up the hill in Truro. The landlady was fantastic, and gave a really nice welcome. We went for lunch and had ploughman's, absolutely gorgeous food in wonderful surroundings. We where only there for the day but would have definitely booked it for an evening meal. Definitely recommend

Surprisingly for a local pub they offer a fine dine , with a delicious menu . Tiny garden 🪴 however well and efficient layout with a well needed heaters . The pub itself it’s a low ceiling beams , gloomy tradition type rooms , relatively small. Fine wines, more then an usual offering number of two . Beverage of a few ales ( not local , unfortunately)and Italian draft beer 🍺. We had a starter of oysters 🦪 made an unusual way( see pictures) tasty 👅 though. Cheesy chips 🍟 one of favourite well prepared. Will definitely pay a visit again. 😉🙏😊

Fantastic food and lovely pub! Was a bit disappointed to see the children's menu consisting of fish and chips, scampi and chips etc. However, the childrens meals were very good and a lot of effort had gone into them. Would definitely go again

Save for a couple of folk drinking at the bar, we were one of two parties dining this evening. Booking was followed up by two phone calls asking for my email address for a menu that eventually arrived the day before the deadline to order. I’m not a fan of pre-ordering, and how do you pre-order the catch of the day!? I eventually had to chase them to pay a deposit because the relevant email didn’t arrive. The artichoke velouté was delicious - properly so. Pate and baked Camembert were disappointing. The main courses weren’t good at all. Roast beef and turkey were dry, gravy (same for both meats!) was bitter, over salted, flabby yorkshires. Really disappointed. I didn’t want to come in the first place having had a rather lacklustre dinner a couple of years ago, but it was Mum’s boyfriend insisting we came for her birthday - I had originally booked Culture in Falmouth but bowed to pressure. I’m sorry I did. Whilst the service was superb, the food wasn’t. No wonder they wanted deposits. Not everyone wants a full roast on a Saturday evening… £300 for 5 with drinks. Pre-ordering sucks especially when the place is dead! It’s December on a Saturday night!? Maybe there’s a reason. Menu options were limited. End result was just bad. But lovely staff who were extremely attentive. So big love for that. Even so, I won’t be going again.

I have been to the Rising Sun multiple times for drinks but last week finally we went there for a date night. We had a lovely seating. The service was outstanding. But the highlight was the food. It started with the outstanding parmesan and chorizo bread rolls which were so delicious. We then ordered the scallops for starters - which was fresh, and delicious. For mains, we had the duck and 10-hr lamb. Both were outstanding but we were in love with the lamb. For dessert, we went with the trifle. Each dish was delicious. We had tried multiple times to book a Sunday roast here but for our lack of prior planning, we thought a dinner would be a good idea and we were absolutely right!!

Rated as Truro's best pub/restaurant. It was my first ever visit, and I completely agree! Fab food and ale in the historic pub with a great ambience. If you haven't been before, I can recommend the seasonal mussels for a start followed by roast lamb with all the trimmings. Excellent food quality and generous portions for the money too. I will be back!

Visited this pub for the first time for Sunday dinner. Best mussels I have had in a long time for a starter followed by hands down the best roast diner I think I have ever eaten. Will definitely be returning.

We loved every bit of this place. Tom is a very likeable guy and his establishment was at the top of all the restaurants we visited during our week in Cornwall. Keep up the good work.

We had a great Sunday lunch and have recommended it to others. I loved the cream sauce to add to the wonderful array of vegetables, lots of gravy and mint sauce on our lamb.

This place has become a firm favourite. Just had the third flawless meal here. Seasonal menu, expertly prepared and a fairly priced wine list. Service is always top drawer.

An incredible restaurant offering the best food and service. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Both the interior and exterior of this building is stunning and well kept. The food is absolutely perfect, I had beautiful scallops to start which were paired with other delicious flavours including apple and celeriac. Following that I chose the duck dish, the duck was heavenly, as were the accompanying elements. The little crispy potatoes and goats cheese filled balls, the jus, and oh my the pomegranate seeds were a great match. A perfectly sized portion too. For dessert I had the delight of a warm chocolate tart which oozed chocolate as you cut into it, absolutely wonderful. The wine list showcases fabulous wines from all around the world, we thoroughly enjoyed trying a few different ones. The bar is very well stocked will lots of choice and offers the most comfortable leather bar stools to sit and relax in. This gastropub is not only great for a meal with friends or a date night but is also perfect for casual drinks and catch ups with cosy seating by their roaring fire in winter or outside in the courtyard on sunnier days. I can't wait to come back, thankyou to everyone at The Rising Sun!

An excellent Sunday Lunch , the tenderest slow cooked pork and lamb , six different fresh veg ( some a little al-dente ), Cauliflower with separate cheese sauce was good, crispy Yorkshire Pud ( not charged but have to ask ), good roasties . Loved the home made ice cream as well. Chose the Rising Sun for its consistently high reviews and wasn’t disappointed.

We came to the Rising Sun for a birthday meal. It certainly did not disappoint. The first thing we were greeted with was a bar with a great atmosphere where we had a relaxing drink before going through to out table. Once at the table we were given a small, but we'll chosen menu and details of the catch of the day. We both went for the rib eye, but cooked differently. Both were cooked to absolute perfection! The seasoning was so good that I did not want to put my sides on the plate as they would change the flavour. Sadly we did not get to try one of the puddings as we were so full from the mains. I think it says a lot about a restaurant when they are all but full on a Thursday night!

Booked for our anniversary after reading the reviews and so glad we did. The two staff on front of house were exceptional even though they were rushed off their feet and the chef, out of this world... The food was fantastic and well worth a visit.. Highly recommended

Our first visit to the Rising Sun and a special occasion to celebrate our anniversary. Wow! It was stunning. The best meal we’d had for a very long time. Service outstanding. Food inventive and mouth watering. Atmosphere was great. Will definitely be back. The extra touches the staff did to mark our anniversary definitely went above and beyond. Thank you to all the team at The Rising Sun.

We had an absolutely lovely meal recently at The Rising Sun. Both the pub and dining room are warm, cozy and welcoming with a wonderful old English pub feel. There were two of us having dinner and our food was excellent. We had the ribeye steak and duck; both of which tasted amazing and were very generous portion sizes. We were also impressed with the local sourcing ethos of the restaurant. I'd encourage making a reservation as the dining room is quite small and very popular.

Absolutely lovely evening, made to feel very welcome and included. Didn’t eat, but food looked exquisite and very well presented, all staff I met were an absolute treasure and owners and very involved and sweet! Would recommend any day of the week! If you want a fine dining experience in a cosy place at a fair price, this is the place!

What a lovely place! I didn't get chance to sample the fine selection of ales as l was the designated driving man, but l was assured that l wouldn't be behind the wheel when we next visited as l definitely missed out. And the food was fantastic. Especially the fish and seafood dishes. Wonderful. Definitely recommended and we will be returning on my next visit to Truro.

Friendly staff in the main. Great fish choices on the menu and varied starters. Very well executed food, one of the best gastro pubs I've been too. Staff were happy to accommodate my needs when I wanted something slightly different than what was on the menu. The cheese board was large and easily enough for two people let alone one. Would return when next in Truro.

Had the Christmas set menu which did not disappoint. Despite not having an obvious vegan option, they altered the veggie option to accommodate and it was delicious. Great, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Completely ignored on 2 occasions as we sat at the bar, finally got served and were told we could go to our table. Had the Sunday roast and we could not fault the food, it was delicious. Shame the service ended there, 20 minutes after finishing our food we were still waiting for our plates to be cleared and to be offered a dessert menu. The local couple 2 tables away (who were seated after us) were dealt with promptly and were enjoying their dessert when we decided to leave as we were blatantly being ignored. What was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday lunch was nothing short of a disappointment due entirely to the lack of customer service received.

A lovely interior and atmosphere and absolutely superb (if pricey) food. I had some stonking homemade bread, followed by a scallops-based starter, a loin of beef main course and a chocolate fondant for pudding. Normally I can't manage three courses but the portion sizes are perfect (and I hadn't eaten all day).
