Really sweet room and a tasty breakfast. There was the oddest fire-exit light in the room that lit the whole place up green however through the night, which meant I kept waking up. I’ve never experienced a fire exit light in a bedroom before! The toilets are really noisy when flushing which a bit of an after sound that echos through the building. I’d stay again… just ask for a different room this time without a light! Food in the pub was nice and there was a good wine selection. The staff working there were lovely.

I want to thank the staff and secondly apologise for my son's behaviour. I was there on the 21st for a wake and my son got a little worse for wear and caused some mess in the bathrooms. The staff kindly and promptly cleaned the mess. I see that someone has complained about this on here, please do not judge this establishment on this review alone as it was missed in that review that it was promptly cleaned.the night , although was a sad occasion was catered and staff beautifully, the food was exceptional along with the friendly staff there to help and a drop of a hat. Completely recommend this amazing venue for any occasion and I'm sure they'll satisfy your needs. Thank you so much for all your support and making the evening a wonderful send off for a loved and missed family member. Lewis

We travelled from Peterborough to The Chequers at Lamberhurst to meet up with some friends for something to eat.Over the weekend we ate there twice. Friday night we ate the Fisherman's plate and the Hunter's plate. Generous servings and the food was amazing, extremely good sized portions and tasted delicious. Dessert was the dessert plate of the day ( cherry cloufoute with white chocolate ice cream) and brownie. Both were generous portions and extremely tasty. We went back for Sunday lunch as it had been recommended to us. We both had the pork shoulder roast which came with Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes, green vegetables, carrots and leek au gratin, apple sauce and gravy. It was nice to have a selection of vegetables that had not been cooked to death. The staff were very friendly, knew exactly what was on the menu and able to describe the dishes without having to check with the kitchen. We did not stay in the rooms so we are not able to rate them. Would we go again .....yes

We came to the pub after visiting Scotney Castle. The pub has a good size parking at the back and a good size outside area. The meal experience was fantastic with the highlight of the lunch - Sunday roast. The portions are very generous and had all the classic trimmings. 👌🏻 The only thing I would change is the amount of gravy. In my opinion, it was not enough. In addition, we tried sourbread with butter, which came warm, courgette fritters, and San Sebastian style cheesecake. All were magnificent as well. Also, what is important to mention is the staff. They were very attending and exceptionally friendly. Big thanks to all working this Sunday!👍🏻👏🏻 We will definitely be back when in the area!

Ordered two gluten free battered Haddock fish and triple cooked chips with peas whilst here on holiday as a result of a Google review and pictures and they were so delicious. The phone order was ready very quick in about 20 minutes, the fish was coated in a very tasty crunchy gluten free batter, the triple cooked chips were equally lovely and the petti pois peas were so sweet with homemade tartar sauce. The portions were so large I had to leave half to heat up and eat later. Very reasonable prices too. Very well packed to retain heat. I'm glad now that the place we were going to go to didn't have any today, will definitely return. Very friendly service at the bar too. Top marks The Chequers 👍😍

This is a really well setup pub. The landlord and staff are very friendly and welcoming indeed. We have recently been going there on a Sunday afternoon about once a month and each time it has been a very pleasant place to be especially on a cold winters day. We will book a meal there soon as from what we have seen, the food looks rather good. A proper English tradition pub. 10/10

We had a short notice stay here in early December. The staff were so helpful and welcomed us with a lovely meal that night . Super breakfast the next morning. All very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Decor is a little quirky but great fun . Amazing building with loads of history . Thank you for a great stay

I just finished another wonderful stay at The Chequers, this time celebrating a few days over Christmas here with my children. Everything was just perfect....all the helpful and friendly staff made it one of my favourite Xmas experiences ever....and the food was amazing! Well done all of you... Bruce, Dan and all the guys and girls running the bar and a special thankyou to Caroline and her team in the kitchen for the delicious meals 👌 She is my top chef for sure 😋 Thankyou so so much and see you all again very soon. Sunday roast was excellent, the meat was lovely and tender with a good selection of vegetables cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive. Dog friendly in the bar area.

Popped in for dinner and it was a really nice experience. Staff encountered all friendly and kind and the food was delish (we had the bean burger) and cooked perfect. Highly recommend.

This place had been recommended as a place to eat, but sadly our evening visit clashed with a wake which had clearly been going on for several hours, so some of the clientele were a little worse for wear, and the younger members of the party were noisy, running around, and at times getting in the way. Sadly another member of the party had been ill in the gents, which hadn't been cleaned when my husband needed the loo. Regarding our meal, sadly both of our preferred menu selections were not available so we settled for alternatives, which were OK but nothing to write home about. The service was good, and the waiting staff were friendly.

Nice decor and a characterful pub, unfortunately on the night we visited they were short of staff in the kitchen so approximately half the menu wasn't available. However the food that was served was well presented and tasty.

Popped in for dinner before heading to Scotney Castle and we’re so glad we did! Lovely little pub with great food, fairly priced and generous portions; recommend the fish and chips! Staff very friendly with quick service too. All in a clean, cosy atmosphere!

We arrived 20 mins early and was shown straight to our table in a completely empty restaurant at 7 o'clock on a Saturday night. My wife ordered the £16 "pie" which was a pot of chicken that had a reheated piece of pastry on it which had now turned into more of a biscuit. Served with what I believe to be smash. The chef/(owner I guess) was quite sure it wasn't so I can only assume they're reheating their mash in the microwave creating a tasteless dry slop with a skin on. I had £22 chewy steak served with no steak knife and a watery sauce. Save your money and just get your microwaved food from wetherspoons

Lovely pub. Food was delicious (we had fish and chips and the schnitzel). Our server Bonnie was very helpful, smiley and attentive. Dog friendly.
