They're a really popular tour company in Cartagena that takes you on the Rosalia Island tours. If you ask the hostels, this is usually the one they recommend. It's also the most expensive one though. So you do the budgeting. If you want to save some money, you can look at the ones selling in the market too because you can negotiate with them, however the good thing with big organizations like backpackers, they take credit card so you don't have to use all your COP at once. For the Rosalia Island tour, we were taken to three different beaches and we went snorkeling. We had a lunch at the last beach but I wasn't too enthused by the lunch. It will be either fried fish or grilled chicken with plantain and rice. Fresh fruits would be served afterwards. Be very careful at the last beach! Cartagena is a very touristy city however I have to say it's a pity to see how tourists get harassed on the beach and the old city a lot by merchants and ppl trying to sell you things. I highly don't recommend getting a massage from the massage ladies who walk along the beach forcing you to buy a massage. I got one and it didn't last 15 min, the massage was horrible and they put some unknown oil on you in the heapful. Awful. Just awful. I ended up paying $40000 COP for the massage and normally she said it would cost $50000 COP. What a rip off. Overall, the tour otherwise was lovely. Snorkelling you can see a lot of fishes you can't see elsewhere and I was happy to see coral reefs were still alive. When they say they're going to give you a panoramic tour of all the islands, don't fall for it. It's just a handful that they take you to and the tour guide explains it briefly. Enjoy!

I took this tour in February 2023, the overall idea of the tour is good. Unfortunately we had to go on a boat called "Jamba" in which the captain was very irresponsible, the guy was going as fast as he could to the point that two girls got injured and two ambulances were called to take them out on stretchers (they could not walk or move). This captain was overtaking all the boats in the water, even boats that had left 15min before us. I complained about the speed to the tour guide Jose and he did not pay attention to me, 5 min later the boat hit a wave at high speed and the 20 passengers were on the air, three of them got injured and two are still receiving medical attention after 3 months. My points: - The tour guide was a nice guy, but does not understand about safety and does not have the authority to control the trip. This is is extremely risky for the tourists. - All 20 passengers were not asked to wear the lifejackets at any time of the trip, even when the captain was doing over 80Km/hr, an accident in this circumstances can be vary bad. - The two girls got injured 5 min after leaving Baru Island, the tour guide was sitting next to the girls, the trip took extra 50min to make it to Cartagena, the captain kept on speeding, the girls could not even move but had to stand the jumps of the boat and the tour guide did not ask the captain to reduce the speed at no time. I admire those two girls for enduring that trip with injured backs. - The trip from Baru to Cartagena takes 1.5 hours, we made it in 1 hour. No wonder how the girls got injured. - When the police and ambulance arrived, they asked what had happened to the girls and the captain laid about it and said the girls fell because they were standing (the girls were sitting at all time), the spanish speaking tourist denied this to the police and the captain just walked away and did not even help take the girls out of the boat. - In several opportunities the captain was doing over 80Km/hr and was looking backwards talking to the other crew man. SO IRRESPONSIBLE. The aim of my review is for Backpacker Cartagena be aware of the danger the tourists are under and not use this boat "Jamba" and its captain. An accident at these speeds can have very bad consequences and neither the tour guide nor the captain care about the wellbeing and safety of the turists. I am more than happy to send you pictures of the boat, the captain and the injured girls if this helps. As a service provider you have to understand that tourists pay to have a nice and relaxing time, not to put their lives in the hands of ignorant and careless people. In this case two girls are still receiving medical attention from injured backs and hopefully they can recover 100%.

This was a great day excursion to the islands. Our guide, Jose, was amazing and very helpful. If this is your first time in Cartagena, please note that it's advised to learn at least a little bit of Spanish to get by. Spanish is the main language here. Despite that, this company operates in both English and Spanish, and Jose was a very helpful translator for every part of the tour. We really appreciated his tips for every island that we stopped by at like, what to expect from vendors selling services, how much service fees will cost us if we used credit cards, and was very keen on watching out for our safety on the trip.

Terrifying travel experience with this company. The bus driver, on the way back from Playa Blanca, hit a cyclist. Then the tour guide let the biker on the bus. The biker then got into a bloody fight with the driver and demanded money before we could go. We were stuck there for an hour, surrounded by tons of bikers who were hitting the windows of the bus. The company essentially told us it was out of their control and offered zero compensation for that chaos. Be wary of using this company. It’s not safe.

DO NOT BUY! If I could leave 0 stars I would. I paid 380 USD for 2 people, some people paid 76.000 Colombian pesos. Others like us who don’t know paid the same amount of money ripping all of us off. First, you expect a nice-looking boat because you pay so much money. Second, the boat broke down, while we were waiting for a boat that works they took us to a castle to learn about the culture. After an hour, The second boat arrived ( worst than the first one ) After they picked us up we went to coquitos island which we were told we would stay here for 30 to 45 min we stayed 5 hours !!!!! I asked the tour guides “ how long” he kept saying the boat was coming back. I asked him about 5 times. When I was looking again for the guide, he was nowhere to be found, he was literally hiding. I found him and I asked him again he said to me the boat was getting gasoline. At this point, We were upset wondering what the hell was happening. After 5 hours, the boat arrived, but the trip was already ruined. When we got to the diving part, we stayed there only for like 30 min ( not even ! ) … after diving, we were promised to go to Cholon. However, because we did not have the time they only stopped there for us to look around inside the boat. we stayed there for like 5 min wondering what were we doing there. After we went to Playa Blanca only with enough time to eat lunch. In conclusion, a waste of time, money, and sooooo disappointment. Didn’t get to enjoy all the islands they promised. Just do yourself a favor. Do not buy this trip. Save yourself some money and stress. You’ll thank me later. ;)

(Translated by Google) I have come several times to Cartagena and this tour I classify as the most expensive and the worst. Pay 150,000 + 5% (other agencies offer it for $ 100,000) for going to the aviary and to the beach. I came with a foreigner so his ticket was more expensive for him, they did not give me any discount because I was a national, but they asked me for my ID to enter the park. We only went to the park and I, the rest of the people went straight to the beach. When we finished our tour in El parque, we arrived at the beach. The agency told us that spaces for sunning were included. But I think they oversold the tour because I've been sitting in a plastic chair for 1 hour. When one pays more for a service expected to be of better quality, my advice is: hire a cheaper agency, this has nothing additional.

Beware to get soaked. The tour first put you first on a mini bus to Playa Blanca for 45 minutes and then onto a small speed boat. The boat ride is not comfortable given you will be soaking wet in choppy water. In addition, if you have done some research, you would know “Chocolate” the boat driver is notorious on the internet. We explicitly asked if they employ “Chocolate” and they denied it. The next day we were put on “Chocolate’s” boat. It was a huge disappointment for the dishonesty given they had relatively high ratings on Google / TripAdvisor. On the Rosario Island Tour, the first island Cholon was absolutely terrible, with constant bombardment of masseurs touching you to try to get you to pay for a massage. The “snorkelling” was horrid, the location they chose barely had any living coral or fish. The next island Playa Agua Azul was filled with garbage unfortunately. Last beach is ok. Lunch was mediocre and the only saving grace was the good guide Jorge. An alternative was to go with the tour agency “This Is Cartagena” to a private island (Gente De Mar) that would probably be more relaxing and clean.

I have taken this tour 3 times, I liked them all but this last one showed a big improvement in the services offered by the company (I actually enjoy how every time they have improvements, shows that they care abt consumers). The guide Franklin was very nice, very attentive, helpful and kind. My experience is that the staff is always very nice and this time it was no exception. The boat was a bigger boat than previous times and that was more comfortable (and very important specially for seniors and children). As before we were picked in the hotel -comfortable and clean van-, then we went to different Islands (the route was a bit different but I found it very interesting since we had the opportunity to walk through the bocachica fort), we had a very nice shrimp cocktail and a fresh fruit salad, I enjoyed a lot the snorkel (I saw many colourful fishes), I also ate oysters at Cholon Island and the lunch place was nice, calm and clean. The food was also good (drinks and extras to the menu that is offered with the tour are at your cost). A nice surprise is that locals are taking more care of the spaces since I had the impression that they were more clean. However, there is a lot of floor for improvement, in some specific places it was a bit sad to see plastic and trash in the sea and beaches. Hopefully local authorities help to keep this amazing places good and companies like this one pressure to take care of them so the experience can only be better. I highly recommend this tour with this company, it gives you a good sense of Rosario Islands, you can experience the traditional food and the staff (specially guides) are always very nice and helpful, at least until now that has been my experience. Price/quality is also good. Tip: take some cash with you to get drinks and sea appetisers at the places and to tip (in the first island there were guides that are not part of the company and they ask tip at the end for the service), be aware that you will get wet many times and that the sea may get wild in the evenings, delicate things such as cellphones can go better on plastic bags inside your bag (small bag). (Tip for the company: I think the company should better do an agreement with the guides that are not part of the tour and include the tip on the price so quality can be also checked -one, only one of the guys -and not everyone received it- was a bit rude at the beginning because people were not gathering properly at the groups-, another possibility is to tell in advance that there is option to have them as guides and how much does that cost, I suggest this also to warranty that costumers have enough ready to give them ).

I took the day tour to Playa Blanca. The transportation was very unorganised. I was picked at 06.15 and reached Playa Blanca by 9.30 (~3 hours), just as a comparison, going by public transport would have been faster (~2 hours). In consequence my experience ended up lasting only 5 hours, when the real promise was 7 hours. The vehicle was also in a very bad condition, the air conditioning was broken, it was a true hell. The driver kept improvising the route picking new guest that were dropped on other places, waited indefinitely for customers that were not on time, etc. Time is precious when in holidays and the company does not value that.

The tour is nice but on the way the boat stops at for example restaurants with Scams. Rice got delivered and afterwards the price was told which is way too high (20k pesos). Further come people in the restaurant and sell you overpriced stuff. One seller didn’t even bring back the change

We booked a tour with Cartagena Connections for Rosario island hopping. Our tour guide was Jesús! He was super adorable and welcoming. Our whole group thought his energy was great and he has the best smile. He walked us through everything and help us with snorkelling and even details about the island. We really enjoyed it! It was worth the pricing for the long tour day but the water woke us up. Truly would recommend to everyone!

(Translated by Google) I want to share my experience of this Tour with this company Backpackers, they pick you up at the hotel, the service and the attention of the people is very good, when we arrive at the roundabout a girl I wait for us, then you get on a boat about 10 minutes that takes you to Crystal Beach. The landscape is beautiful, the sea 100% crystalline, we do the Snorkeling activity where you can appreciate much better the wonders that this site offers, fish and others, we did trekking in the afternoon and you can choose to sleep in a tent or hammock under the stars, everything very good. I recommend them, thanks Backpackers !!

(Translated by Google) APPALLING!!! They sold me this tour of Playa Cristal in Tayrona with super expensive camping. They charged me 7,000 MXN. I really couldn't even call it a tour. They send you by public transport (for that I would have left on my own) but this does not specify when they sell it to you. Nor do they tell you that there is no drinking water on the Island to even take a shower. Despite the bad service of the tour company already on the island the people are good, they are very friendly and the beach is beautiful! Returning to the transport issue, this is what happened ... they picked us up at our lodge and from there we took them to the vans terminal and they gave me money to pay for the transfer in Barranquilla. When I arrived at Rodadero after almost 5 hours, which is where someone was supposed to be waiting for me, the lady took 20 minutes to get from there, took me in a taxi to Taganga to get on the boat we were waiting another 30 minutes for the bad weather to go to Cristal beach. Since we get on the boat, the boat service is horrible, they don't give a damn about the tourist, they go to very high speed and they give you old and broken vests. I still wore my casual clothes without a bathing suit and I ended up soaked just like others and it was a 35 min trip to arrive. I couldn't even admire the sea and the mountains because all the water was giving me in the face of how fast they were going. Arriving on the Island, they received us very kindly, the place is super rustic, you can't bathe, the bathrooms are very dirty, our tent was fine but the inflatable mattress was deflated at night. Food is included but drinks are not. In total we spend about 1,000 MXN of drinks only. We had a good time although we felt super dirty for not being able to bathe. We had the idea that we could leave at the time we wanted from the island and that is a lie that the girl who sold us at the office told us. Only boats leave at 4pm. Anyway when we had to go back we got on another boat that still treats the tourist like an animal. We arrived in Taganga again and the person who was supposed to be waiting for us never arrived. We wrote to the lady who picked up the first time and it turns out that she had asked the favor of another girl to wait for us but it looked bad and she apologized a lot but that did not help me and it affected us in a terrible way because we left almost at 6pm from Santa Mara, by the time we arrived in Barranquilla, Cartagena was no longer leaving and again another problem. We had to find another truck that went there. The truck service was appalling and the cheapest because it was what it was. I ended up arriving at almost 11pm at my hotel and arrived walking. In general I was scammed! I have little desire to return to Colombia thanks to this! Oh and one last thing! A LOT OF CARE they have no price list, they practically give you the price according to how they see you!

My BF and I took the snorkeling tour from Cartagena to Playa Blanca and Playa Azul. It started out fine but before it was over I was in tears and afraid for my safety and I was in pain for days from the speed boat ride. Let me start by saying I’ve been accused more than once of being an adrenaline junkie so for me to be afraid to the point I was in tears really says something. We were late leaving the last beach before we stopped for lunch and the speed boat ride was a nightmare. I knew something was up when the captain ran from the front of the boat to the back and didn’t come back. He didn’t want to be near the front (where our seats were). The boat was going so fast that when we hit bumps I was violently thrown up and down in my seat, which had nothing for me to hold onto. I felt waves of pain through my back and head when we hit some of the bigger ones. A man in front of me -who didn’t even have a proper seat because the boat was too full- fell off the bench he was on and spent the rest of the trip sitting on a pile of life vests on the floor. Many of the other passengers didn’t wear their life vests and mine was so sad and broken the buckled in front wouldn’t stay closed. When my BF confronted the tour guide after, he said we HAD TO got that fast because the boat WAS TAKING ON WATER but we both suspected it was really because we were running late. If we had been taking on water, why did they let over 20 passengers get on, including a small child of about 6 years old, without telling anyone? Why didn’t they insist every person wear a life vest? After that ride I was shaking. Then they had us eat lunch on some deck that I was shocked Didnt fall down with us on it. It was rickety and leaned to one side and shook each time someone took a step on it. I refused to stay on or under it. Then to add insult to injury, on our way back to the van when we were leaving, our tour guide lost us in the parking lot and and since we were the last people to get in the van, I had to sit on what could at best be called half of a seat for the TWO HOUR ride back to Cartagena. I was a pretzel the next day. This was THE WORST TOUR I’ve ever been on and safety is not even a passing thought. There were other things about the trip I could mention, but they were trivial in comparison to how dangerous this tour is.

I'm a good guy giving them 1 star! I had a bad experience with them when I booked a trip to Baru! We have arrived with more than 1h late because of a detour because they had to take someone who wasn't in our way but I said ok! Then I booked another tour with them, I cancelled the tour because it wasn't what I wanted even if their website was saying something different! Almost 2month passed and I'm still waiting for my money back but I doubt this

The best tour agency in Cartagena!! We had a great time with our tour guide Alex, he took great care of us and consistently made sure we were having fun and were comfortable. He even made sure we didn’t get scammed anywhere. We did the island tour and the mud bath with them and both were excellent. Food was good too.

Really stressful start as the information on the trip advisor website didn't explain that there was also a 'plankton' tour available which is very different to the information on the trip advisor page about the 5 islands tour. We did manage to get to the office however and they were really great at sorting everything and we only had to pay the difference. The trip itself was great - definitely worth doing if you're visiting Cartagena with something for everyone. The fort was really interesting although there was a language barrier which made it more complicated. We then visited some beautiful beaches, the lunch was good but realistically if you want more than fairly plain food then budget for more than the 30,000 peso budget. Jordan came with us and was very helpful and approachable. Overall a really good day and would highly recommend! :)

The tour was disappointing. No time to just chill, it was a succession of stops in places clearly engaged with the organization of the tour, where the only objective was to take us more money. As if it was not already expensive enough. apex was achieved when we stopped at party island where the pee was mixing with harassing people trying to sell us overpriced random things. Final was playa blanca (supposedly the best of the tour). We had lunch, were (again) presented with local sales people doing massages, selling jewel as well as many other things. When done with the lunch it was already time to go. End of the tour.

We did two tours in Cartagena with them, the full day mud volcano and pink sea and the Rosario island snorkel trip. We really enjoyed both tour guides and driver, they texted us to tell us what to bring and when they would arrive for pick up. We learned a lot from our guides (charlie, Jorge, and Jesus). We also liked that both times they got us to the locations before any other tours, so we had everything to just our small tour group of about 10 people. I do recommend having small bills as drinks are not included.

Just came back from mud volcano trip. Absolutely brilliant. I've done some bizarre things in my life but this is up there with the best. Sarah and the team brilliant job. Snacks and beers at the place were delicious. Thoroughly recommend the trip and these guys for organising it. John and Lisa Cartagena Jan 2020

Highly recommended, they have various tours, one that takes you to 3 different beaches, that is their flagship tour, we went to playa blanca, highly recommended, service was good, lunch delicious. Serious business with great people.

The Rosario Islands tour with these guys is the best thing to do if you are staying in Cartagena, the snorkelling is indeed the highlight of this tour, also they give you a seafood cocktail and I didn't know that you get to have some tropical fruits after the cocktail. Playa Blanca was amazing, the day was kinda cloudy but anyway I enjoyed a lot in each island that I went. The guides and staff are really polite and funny, I mean, you easily get along with these guys because their kindness. Basically this was one of the best tours I've ever done, thanks for the service guys, keep it up!

Went on the Rosario Islands and Playa Blanca Tour. Was a great tour with efficient transportation and knowledgeable staff. We warned that Playa Blanca is a very busy beach and has an incredibly dirty parking area so try not to be too shocked when you arrive.

We took the mud volcano tour, in which everything worked out perfectly. We booked another tour to Playa Blanca, there was no communication whatsoever, we were supposed to be picked up at 7:30, we texted the company and they seem to have forgotten about us, they sent us a different guide in a taxi to pick us up at 9, he didn't fit in with us, so he left us in the cab going to an unknown location where the bus was waiting for us. Our experience got better thanks to our guide's enthusiasm, Jose was polite, charming and tried to take care of every request we had. I recommend to be persistent with the company, they are a little informal.

(Translated by Google) We hire the bus tour to Barú. The service was disappointing, in the first place we were picked up by the hotel for 1 hour and a half afternoon, in the second place they lied to us with the established schedules, since supposedly the saleswoman who attended us at the agency told us that the route to arrive lasted 45 minutes (it lasted 1 hour and a half) and that the return time was at 4 pm, which was also not fulfilled since the guide made us return at 3 pm. In conclusion they sell you an 8-hour excursion to end up enjoying 2 hours of beach. DON'T CONTRACT THIS COMPANY IS DECEIVING!

Don't bother booking tours through here. You pay for something and then don't get what you want. We paid for the VIP after reading reviews that their tours are overcrowded. After confirming our pick up time, they call an hour before they close to advise the tour VIP tour isnt happening allegedly because the boat is broken. Actually, we were the only two who booked it (we booked a simple tour earlier in the day and were the only ones). So even if we wanted to try an alternate route we can't because its such short notice (we also leave the day after the tour so really not much we can do). So we were stuck going with them and we are awaiting the refund of the difference. Also the boat was a horrible falling about speedboat. They had to fix the motor a few times. Then we go to aqua azula to pick up more people on an overcrowded boat because their boat died. And the coast guard stopped us because the boat was overfilled. In other words run away! Try another place.

Well, disapointed,There were several things, but the first was the very poor safety of the little boat that I have to say little boat? I don't know what it was, there was no way to get on safe to the point that getting off with my husband's help we went to the ground or sea or shore since we simply They throw you out there on the shore, then, the return was scary, almost horror, because those who guide it are young boys and well they want adrenaline, scary, against the current, with some blows that literally the gypsum ship was resuscitated in front of me, and I only prayed to get to the port, almost a nightmare, and to top it off, the food, it really didn't hurt them to serve such a miniature fish, the guide whistled and sent us as if it were a general, nothing of kindness and less interested in our basic needs, well frightful I do not recommend it for anything, go at your risk.

We booked a tour to playa blanca. The transfer never came to pick us up (2h of waiting). Any type of communication failed (sms, phone call, mail, whatsapp). We went to the backpackers headquarter where they told us that the transfer was cancelled without telling us. We should cancel the tour and book again. No discount, no solution, nothing. We then organized it on our own. No recommendation!!!

My female friend and I, travelling just the two of us booked the Rosario Islands tour with this company over December. While we found the tour to be quite decent with reasonable service, food and transportation otherwise, the tour guide (by the name of HEIRO) made us feel extremely uncomfortable with sexual propositions, hovering around us for the majority of the second part of the tour. This was made worse as the both of us were in swimwear for a large part of the tour, simply due to the nature of the activities included. The guide was visibly looking at us and spending unsolicited time attempting to arrange a later meet up, suggesting connections to explicit drugs and free club entry, in return asking ‘what we could do for him’. I would not be surprised at all if he had exhibited this same behaviour to other female travellers in the past. As a tour company, I expect Heiro to be dealt with heavily for his EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR. My advice to other travellers, if you’re a female, DEFINITELY BOOK WITH ANOTHER COMPANY, if you’re a male and don’t condone this behaviour, BOOK SOMEONE ELSE too.
