The Amarla has all the right aesthetics and had a friendly and helpful staff but the maintenance of the hotel needs serious attention. For $200 USD per night you expect some basics like hot water, electricity and toilets that flush. Unfortunately we missed out on these basics. Half our showers were cold, when we arrived no outlets in our room worked and it took around 3-4 hours to rectify the issue and our toilet would flush sometimes and wouldn’t others. Had these issues not been encountered it would have been 5 stars but for us it was a great place to take photos but not a great place to stay.

I arrived in Cartagena to this amazing place. I was taken to my room and then given a tour of the hotel... wow! I settled on the roof terrace, ordered a cocktail and enjoyed the amazing views over the roof tops of the city. The staff were very attentive and welcoming and made me feel at home. I highly recommend Amarla. Many thanks

What a beautiful hotel full of small details. We enjoyed every minute we spent at Amarla, such a tranquil environment. The house is so nicely decorated and stylish. We loved the breakfast, coffee was exceptional and service while slow at times was very good. Location is perfect and the pool upstairs is small but very enjoyable and it was never crowded, it's an oasis. We stayed in both the standard room and then the bigger room with balcony (due to availability) and I strongly recommend the second one of course. the standard room is very small so it may be uncomfortable for many. Service was great, everyone was lovely and professional. Claudia from reception was a star. Thank you for a great time, we will return no doubt.

We had the pleasure of staying at Amarla Boutique Hotel in Cartagena for 2 days and it was simply perfect! The hotel has a great location in the heart of the old town and its staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the spacious rooms to their rooftop terrace with stunning views, every detail is guaranteed to make your stay a memorable one. Highly recommend it!

This is such a special hotel. The common areas are beautiful, and it has definitely kept its colonial charm whilst feeling very luxurious. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The only issue is we had a desk semi-blocking the door, so accessing the balcony wasn’t easy. It’s also worth noting that it’s quite noisy at night. Not the hotel’s fault as it’s coming from the street below, but for the rooms that face the road, maybe they could offer earplugs. The shower did not get very hot for very long and the old shower head means the water sort of splatters in weird directions, but it wasn’t terribly inconvenient. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating.

We loved our stay at amarla! Top location and amazing property! (The rooftop is to die for) service is kind and efficient, they really take care of you! The only minor point is that the bathrooms are bit outdated for a property of this level! Anyways, we would come back 100%!

We stayed in Amarla for part of our honeymoon and it's been a perfect stay. The hotel is central, gorgeous and the Toucan room has so much character. Breakfast is included with the price of the room and it's delicious. We started each day with fresh fruit juice, Colombian coffee and hearty meals. Cartagena is hot and humid and Amarla's pool was the best way to relax and cool off from the heat and business of the walled city. We appreciated the staff's friendliness and suggestions. We even booked a wonderful couples massage done in the morning on the rooftop and staff brought us more fresh fruit juice. The visit has been seamless and enjoyable in large part because of the Amarla Hotel. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Cartagena!

The best hotel I have ever stayed. It is perfect in every single way. Stayed in the toucan room #1 for a single night, but never wanted leave. Will certainly return. Thank you for such a magical stay.

Everything was just amazing there, from the beautiful decorations, the staff so nice and good service, and delicious food at the restaurant. One of the best hotels I ever been!

I have been coming to Cartagena for over 10 years. This hotel is my favorite — hands down. The staff is wonderful, attentive without being too formal and the design is just beautiful. We will definitely be back and will be recommending to all of our friends.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Amarla hotel. Gorgeous property, great location in old town, delicious breakfast, friendly staff, and lovely outdoor space (both a big atrium where they serve breakfast and upstairs pool / patio). We also appreciated that it was on a quiet block so that we were not woken by late night partiers (a problem we had elsewhere on our trip). Would definitely recommend!

Amarla far exceeded expectations in all facets. The staff was courteous, helpful, attentive, and went above and beyond to make my family’s stay absolutely marvelous. Everything on the breakfast menu is outstanding and the staff gladly made any slight alterations to meals to meet there needs of the pickiest of eaters. The front office staff are experts of the old town and have amazing recommendations for food and sights. They were extremely helpful in navigating transportation needs. 100% stay here if you are in Cartagena!!! For any event, I highly recommend Angie. She was detail oriented, responsive, and well-connected. She is personable and navigated any request, no matter how last-minute, with care, attention to detail, and grace. She made the entire wedding party feel at home and provided us with service that went above and beyond her role. She truly is an amazing person and fantastic at her job. We were lucky to work with her and would jump at any opportunity to work with her again if the opportunity would arise. Truly and eternally grateful for her work and partnership throughout the planning and execution of our wedding.

Is a great place, cool room but not really practical because all the vintage furniture and some odd choices in the bathroom. The service is absolutely great, and the common areas are also excellent: Relaxing, quiet, fresh, beautifuly decorated.

Room ok but needs to be cleaned better and get maintenance. Great pool and view on the top floor. Breakfast ok. Poor service from the reception. Super location in downtown.

I am so glad we booked this. For the last leg of our stay in a very busy (and loud:)) Cartagena, Amarla was sooo welcome. The rooms are GORGEOUS and the whole place feels as if you've just stepped into your own private mini-castle. Elegant comes to mind. Also quite:) If the staff or ownership is reading this I got the sense you guys could use a little more help(!), but I hear this hotel is relatively new so perhaps everyone is still figuring out the kinks. That aside, the staff helped my partner surprise me with flowers, and the breakfast is huge and absolutely exceptional. Plus, no one uses the pool so it's all yours!

Incredibly nice hotel with high ceilings, nice decoration, really nice staff (Claudia, George, Veronica) and exceptional service. Totally recommended. The rooftop swimming pool allows you to cool down on a hot day while sipping on your cocktail of choice 🍹

My wife and I just returned from a three night stay at this wonderful boutique property. The stay was wonderful because both the property and the service were excellent. Our room—#1– was lovely, quiet and peaceful with high ceilings and a large bathroom. The common areas are beautiful and stylish. The rooftop pool was perfect to relax at. But most importantly, the level of service was so good, we felt like we were staying at a private Villa. Every morning, fresh coffee with hot milk was waiting for us before our run. Breakfast, which is included, was delicious. See photos below. For the price, you cannot beat the level of service or room amenities. We highly recommend this 6 room hidden gem. Special shout out to the wonderful staff, including our food server, Dorian; Otto who greeted us in the am and Eduardo and Claudia, who helped make our stay memorable.

Absolutely Stunning & Magical Property in the heart of it All! The Staff could not have been more helpful & Accommodating, from our initial contact to our departure. The rooftop/pool view is spectacular & made the perfect backdrop for me to propose as seen in our pictures. The staff was extremely helpful with this request & made sure it happened flawlessly. It is small with only 7 rooms, but the vibe truly makes you feel like you are a distinguished guest in your own home. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, & I cannot recommend staying here highly enough!
