Spectacular! Interior in French-colonial style with classic fans on the ceiling. Eye for details. Well trained hosts and ofcourse very friendly. Food was absolutely amazing. Spot on. 5 out of 5. Also very good vegetarian food. Recommended

The foods here were incredible. This restaurant was recommended by our resort, and it turned out really good. We had the lobster dumpling, soft shell crab, and fried corn for starters. The lobster dumpling was just ordinary. Much like the Chinese Tim sum shrimp dumpling, the soft cell crab was heavenly. The salted egg sauce that came with it was so good. The fried corn looks ordinary, but it was actually very good. The mains were squid, beef rendang and pork knuckles char siew, The squid was fantastic, the texture of the squid was cooked just right. Beef rendang, probably was the best that I had so far. The pork knuckles were huge but were very tasty. The portion is probably fit for 4 persons. Highly recommend this place if you are around Ubud Bali.

I’ve been in Ubud for a 10 days now and this is still my favorite restaurant. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and the food was amazing. We ordered the papaya salad (beware, the waitress asked if spicy was okay, I said yes, and wow, it was spicy. I have a very high spice tolerance, so if you don’t, make sure to tell them, they will absolutely adjust for you) and the duck. The duck is a classic Balinese dish and I tried it 2 other places and this was by far the best. My boyfriend is vegan and the staff was extreme accommodating to make sure the vegetarian options were vegan. If you’re in Ubud don’t leave before coming here

I’ve been here 4 times across 3 different trips to Ubud, and I’ll be coming back every future time. The dishes are excellent and (to my non-Indonesian, Singaporean palate) highly original. Even the gin cocktail was delicious and beautiful. It’s hard to describe exactly how each dish was amazing, you’ll just have to take my word for it.

The food was outstanding. Each dish has unique flavors and the presentation add to the experience. Dining area had 2 levels with the lowe level had a lounge vibe. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The food came out hot and was well timed. Would highly recommend this restaurant and would strongly encourage you to make a reservation.

Amazing food! Local produce and refined flavors. For this quality their prices are more than fair. Great attentive service. Tuna and scallops as starters were out of this world. A must-visit spot for food lovers.

This place is beautiful. Food was super and their services also awesome. Staff was explained to us with details and presenting their dishes with elegantly. Also feel in love with the interior its mixed between old melaka heritage style but with pop colors ( I guess ?)

5/5 stars. Had a romantic couple dinner at Hujab Locale October 2019.. great atmosphere, really friendly staff - always smiling aware of the guests! They have a good wine menu (tried baby doll from NZ). Had a delicious duck as well! Highly recommend the place

Delicious Indonesian dishes with a modern twist! We enjoyed everything that came from The kitchen. The tuna tartare was the star, and absolutely delicious! The ambience is also nice with dim lighting and elegant vibe. Service was excellent too. If I had one criticism, I would say the dishes were small for the price which made it a bit costly to get enough food. Drinks were also much more expensive than other restaurants we’ve tried in Indonesia. This was a big enough problem that we wouldn’t come back, not because it wasn’t good but more so because we can’t afford it.

Fantastic experience. The staff are very professional, helpful but not invasive. Had a non spiced diner with us and they accommodated her graciously. The food is delicious as it is beautifully presented. I’ll be back!

This place is perfect! I am so in love with design, the menu and the super friendly staff. The food was delicious and one of the best I had in a while. Also the cocktails are very good. My favourite was the papaya salad. So good!

Really enjoyed the dishes we ordered - chicken wing stuffed with prawn paste, dish dumpling, 48 hr beef and chicken curry both served with rice. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely don’t miss the desserts. The open coconut cheesecake and the meringue based one were both excellent. Has reasonable number of options for vegetarians too. Good ambience and service. Highly recommend!

Wow delicious. Had the 48 hour slow cooked beef short rib and the meat was extremely tender and flavorful. I also got the lemongrass and ginger creme brulee. It's probably one of my favorite desserts I've ever had. This place is magical. In the US this place would cost 3x as much. Thanks for the amazing experience.

cumi (squid) with curry was excellent. other options on the menu (duck, pork belly) looked equally appealing. the descriptions on the menu are well written. beef satay on the other hand was a bit tough but the spices it was in was very good. shrimp crackers stale but it’s hard to do those right anyway. ambience is classy and low lit at night. plenty of parking. kind staff but food took about 30 mins + and the mains came out separate from each other, which is never good. still, the dish I ordered was, as stated, incredible. so if you have the patience, definitely recommended.

Really beautiful and cozy spot: amazing food, friendly staff, comfortably furnished with good taste, nice cocktails, good beer and again - great indonesian food with a modern touch, sometimes spicy, sometimes surprising but never too demanding. Higher prices than average, but worth it!

Came here with a famly of four after seeing glowing reviews on Google and Tripadvisor. Ambience is great (mood lighting, open air environment, spaced out tables) and staff were friendly and polite. The food were quite homey despite the upscale pricing and image of the restaurant. Was expecting food that was amazing but we were served up some "good" food instead. Would not say this is a place that's 'not to be missed" but it's definitely a restaurant that I would not advise visitors against visiting if you're looking for some decent, comfy 'home'-style food. Starters: Crispy Squid Soft Shel Crab Thoughts: both were your average fried seafood dishes. Not sure what else we were expecting, but these starters were missing the x-factor. Probably won't get again. Mains: Bebek goreng Braised beef rawon Padang style cumi cumi kalio Thoughts: Bebek goreng and braised beef rawon were soft, tender and juicy and packs a punch in flavour. Saltiness a little on the high side, but nothing that can't be tamed with a side of plain/yellow rice. The cumi cumi kalio was quite flavourful with the squid texture complemented nicely by the prawn-style filling inside (albeit serving size a lil small?). Sides: 2 servings of yellow rice Thoughts: yellow and fuffy, served in banana leaves. Nothing else to add. Drinks: Passion Smash Coconut Mojito Coco Lychee Crush (Non-alc) Thoughts: The Passion Smash and Coconut Mojito were your run of the mill cocktails. Coco Lychee was very very yum (we ordered a 2nd glass after downing the 1st). This could be because it's non-alc so it has no alcoholic taste to it.

Lovely spot. Decor was hip, staff helpful and friendly, taking time to help us navigate the menu and avoid items to which we're allergic. Dishes were excellent, as were the cocktails. All around great experience.

Manages to squeeze dishes from South East Asia and Indonesia into a small plates menu that actually works. Start things off with imaginative dumplings, then head for the rich curries and chargrilled meats. Gets busy, and the seating upstairs is better than down. Communicative service.

We made reservations for lunch today, and after a stellar meal at their sister restaurant Honey & Smoke last night, we were super looking forward to our meal and boy were we blown away, it was so good! We ordered 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts to share between my husband and I and we wiped clean our plates. For starters, the Slipper lobster dumplings was really fresh and crunchy and the sauce had a real spicy kick to it, while the Sate babi merah was so good, especially the fats that has been charred to a melt in your mouth texture. For mains, we ordered the beef rendang and padang style cumi cumi kalio and both dishes were good, especially the squid stuffed with minced prawns (cumi cumi). The curry was very tasty and squid had a great texture which wasn't too chewy or overcooked. We capped our meal with 2 desserts which were the black sticky rice and ginger lemongrass creme brulee, and both were delightful, especially the creme brulee which was very fragrant with the additional aromatics. All in all, a wonderful meal and we would have loved to try more dishes but we were just too stuffed. Highly recommended!

Great experience and fantastic Indonesian food with some subtle but clever fusion of other Asian ingredients and dishes. With Indonesian food fast becoming one of my favourite cuisines, it was great to experience a different take on the rustic family style dishes. The 'Slipper Lobster Dumplings' with the Padang style chilli sauce is a must have, such great flavour and perfectly balanced without overpowering the lobster. The 'Braised Beef Rawon' is another must try dish, a lot more filling than the other dishes, but perfect to share and delicious and hearty. The 'Ginger Lemongrass Creme Brulé' was a revelation and the perfect fusion dessert in my opinion, not too sweet with the lemongrass and ginger just working perfectly together. The service was impeccable and the staff really friendly, kind and informative about the menu. Would highly recommend this restaurant as a nice treat whilst in Bali or celebration of your looking to experience how the locals upscale their food and supply their own creativity.

We recently had an amazing lunch experience at Hujan Locale in Ubud, Bali. What truly stood out during my visit was the exceptional service provided by our server. Right from the start, they greeted us with a genuine smile and an eagerness to make our experience memorable. They patiently guided us through the menu, offering insightful recommendations based on our preferences and ensuring that every detail of our meal was catered to our liking. Not only was our server Yuna knowledgeable about the menu, but they also displayed great awareness and attentiveness towards our needs. They seamlessly anticipated when we needed more water or a fresh set of cutlery, always ensuring our comfort throughout the meal. Their interpersonal skills were also commendable as they engaged in friendly conversations, making us feel like valued guests rather than just customers. Our dining experience was further elevated by the exquisite food served at Hujan Locale. The menu offered an extensive range of dishes inspired by diverse Indonesian culinary traditions. Each plate was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavors that delighted our taste buds and left us craving for more. From the mouthwatering spicy sambals to the perfectly cooked tender meats, every dish was a testament to the skill and passion of the kitchen staff. The seamless combination of delicious food and exceptional service created an overall dining experience that I will cherish for a long time. Hujan Locale is an absolute gem in the heart of Ubud, Bali, and our server played a significant role in making this visit truly memorable. Their attention to detail, friendly demeanor, and knowledge about the menu enhanced our dining experience and made us feel like honored guests. Without a doubt, this restaurant and its amazing server deserve a glowing recommendation.

Fabulous food and amazing service. The only negative would be tables of 2 placed too close together so felt like we were sharing a table of 4 with another couple we didn’t know. Not ideal for a romantic evening. However, we noticed a free table in a more private location and were allowed to move. The beef rendang was the best thing I’ve eaten so far in Bali - Thank you! Would definitely come again.

Impeccable service and delicious food! Tried the softshell crab, lobster dumpling and duck. Loved all of them! Also tried the ginger lemongrass creme brulee for dessert and it was an interesting twist on the usual ones we had. Service was great and the staff were really attentive. They also helped with the recommendations for the food.

Hujan in Bali, Ubud, is a true culinary gem! My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here yesterday, and we were absolutely blown away by the food, service, and atmosphere. While it's on the expensive side, every bite was worth it. The flavors, presentation, and attention to detail in each dish were outstanding. The staff was attentive and friendly, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant's ambiance added to the charm of the evening. Highly recommended for a special dining experience in Ubud!

We recently dined at a restaurant serving upscale Indonesian cuisine, and we were pleased with the overall experience. The Grouper Dumpling was delicious, but the Tuna Gohu was the standout dish for us. The flavors were sophisticated and balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. The Rendang was also enjoyable, although it didn't quite live up to our expectations. The Nasi Kuning was a bit bland and mushy, but the service was fantastic, and the cocktails were refreshing and well-made. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes from the menu.

The local is nice and cozy, the staff is very kind. I've read several nice reviews, so the expectations were quite high. We spent a nice evening there, but my review can't be too positive, because I didn't like the kitchen at all and the price was too expensive. The kitchen is a contemporary kitchen influenced by the Asian kitchen and other kitchens as European and South American. But it has not a real identity, it's too chaotic. That said, I am pretty confident they can improve it. Regarding the price, the local is frequented mainly by the tourists, so probably this is the reason why the prices are not aligned with the real standard.

Honestly didn’t find whatever we ate super fantastic. It was good but i wouldn’t come back again especially for any of the dishes we ordered. It was pretty pricey too. Ambience was great and maybe there are other dishes that are better. If I go back I would try other dishes.

I really enjoyed my meal here! My chicken wings stuffed with prawn were delicious I also enjoyed the eggplant main course. The chicken curry dish was much too salty for my taste but they offered to change it for me which was nice.

Visit this place by the recommendation from Caramel Bakery owner. He told me this is the place for the real Indonesian cuisine. Lucky us, we arrived at this place quite late. Some of the main course already sold out. This place is dangerous. We want all the main course. The food is really really good it take you back to all that places where it come from. The price? It didn’t justified at all for such cuisine. Thanks. Will always back if visiting Ubud again.

Really appreciate this restaurant ! I was wonderfully surprised with the dishes I eat !especially that at the beginning I didn't really understand the menu :) :) And it was with the magic help of the smiley waiter that everything was clarified. Beautiful decoration with very good music. Totally satisfied even if it a little bit expenses that other restaurant. I really recommend if you came to Ubud !

It’s just super salty. We asked a waitress to fix 1 dish and she’s willing to help. Thanks but we’re disappointed with the food anyway. The atmosphere is nice for drinks. It’s a too dark to dine, while you can’t see what you are eating and everything is just salty!!!

Absolutely incredible! Local cuisine transformed into fine dining experience! Service was amazing and the food... just delicious! I have to say that it was a little bit too spicy even if we asked to be easy on the chili. So if you’re like me, make sure that you tell th waiter to be careful with the chilis. But still super tasty. Definitely a gem.

Indonesian dishes reinterpreted The restaurant presents itself on two levels and has a pronounced attention to detail. Everything is a little rustic but with a chic touch. The service is consistently good, but I was also there at a relaxed lunchtime. I had the “48-hour rawon short rib beef with wood roasted bone marrow baby carrots kecai sprouts and served in black nut sauce” which was extremely good if not cheap compared to other restaurants but also something special. I was also able to try the Padang Curry, which was also very well done and also very hot for my taste. All in all, a really successful taste experience. Definitely upscale cuisine at a slightly higher price, which I think is justified. Definitely a find!

The food in this place is inspired. The chef has come up with a menu that is small enough ensure that every dish will be great but offers still a good amount of choice. The flavours are bold and unapologetic, a great modern take on Indonesian classics.

The best meal we had in Ubud, if not Bali altogether. It features a modem spin on traditional dishes from all over Indonesia, that may be more obscure to the less experienced traveler such as myself. The ambiance was great, with retro chic decor and a great music playlist. We had the pork belly to start, which was pleasantly spiced and fork tender, with a wonderful rich sauce and crunchy house made pickles on the side. This was followed by the ikan selar, a delectable fish grilled to perfection, with a spicey and rich coconut curry sauce. The side dish of roasted corn and pork floss was a great compliment. It was so good that we immediately made a reservation for the following night. Bravo!

Had been here a couple of times. One of my favourite dishes here is the crabmeat pasta which tastes so heavenly. Love the starter dishes too. Attentive staff and a highly professional female service manager who remembers customers well and truly make you feel special (which in my opinion is great customer service). Cannot recommend this place enough. 02032020 Visit on 03032020 Tried the ceviche in the past and it comes with more zing in terms of citrusy flavour of lemon/lime but this time round, the zing is lacking I feel. Had the oxtail dumpling soup which is pretty tasty. The sambal really packs a punch here, so try it sparingly if you cannot take chili. All in all a good meal.

Amazing Balinese food in the heart of Ubud. We had the fish dumplings and fried squid to start - simple but executed well (the chilli dip was amazing), then the cumi cumi curry and slow braised short ribs as mains. Curry was super flavourful, felt like my mum was the one toiling over the stove, short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and the bone marrow that came with it was divine. Highly recommended for everyone visiting Ubud!

An amazing spot to experience Balinese food in a different way. We ordered the ceviche and pork belly to start and then the ox-tail dumplings and a fish dish for the main course. The presentation of the food was colorful and exciting and all of the dishes were rich in flavor. Hujan is a bit expensive, but it's absolutely worth it. We went for a late lunch (around 2 pm or so) and it was easy to get a table. Surprisingly, they also had a few craft beers on their menu.

Delectable flavours from Indonesia in creatively presented dishe. A whole page is dedicated to vegetarians!! Everything is so fresh. We love getting a sample of appetisers, they are always the best. One of our favourite places in Ubud

Indonesian food with a modern twist. Very flavorful and lovely presentation. Recommended plates: beef satay, steamed fish, oseng oseng (stir fried long beans with smoked fish). Coco lychee crush is a must!

Food was delicious! Service was great. The soft shell crab was sooo good. Tuna used was low quality though but other than that it was delicious.

If you want some authentic flavourful Indonesian food, this place has real good quality tasty and slow cooked Indonesian food. Nice ambience.. parking can get hard. I love their tahu gejrot with fermented cucumbers. Even their yellow rice is flavourful. Nice drinks and a good variety for vegetarians.

Fantastic cozy non pretentious restaurant with genuine authentic Indonesian cuisine cooked deliciously. Food quality was top notch starting with the excellent cocktails all the way from dumplings to the Bebek Goreng (Indonesia fried duck) to the Rendang. Definitely a recommend.

Very pricey version of Indonesian food — artfully presented, but underwhelming from a fine dining perspective. We enjoyed our curried soft shell crab appetizer. My husband’s crispy fish seemed like a take on Shanghainese squirrel fish, but the sambal was weak and didn’t hold the dish together with the side salad. My vegetarian curry was a monotone mush of fern and eggplant—it definitely needed a crunchy element. Not one of our favorite meals in Bali, with a price tag of over $100 (including wine, I must add). On the plus side, the service is great and the space is lovely, especially if you get a spot near the courtyard window. It was fine, but with all the hype I expected more.

I came in 2019 and absolutely loved the food, had to come back. 3 years later the cuisine has changed a bit, however the taste and quality are on point! Cannot recommend this place enough between the flavours, friendly/helpful staff & ambiance. It’s a must visit when on Ubud :) *my photos don’t do the food justice!

This place is amazing, definitely some of the best food we have had in Ubud along with great service and atmosphere. Upscale but not at all pretentious. We shared 5 starters and some roti and washed it down with a couple cold Island Ales. Definitely recommend!

Very high quality. Would recommend taking lobster dumplings 🥟 and the crispy duck was one of the best we ever had. Service was very attentive and it matches higher class, with more relaxed atmosphere 😍

Amazing crispy chicken. My favorite dinner in Ubud by far. The soft shell crab were perfectly spiced. Great atmosphere. A bit more expensive than most restaurants in the area but the food was ten times better. Upscale but still feels relaxed. Go here!

Ambience and atmosphere of this restaurant is top notch with a beautiful bar section downstairs and restaurant seating upstairs. Quiet modern space with nice warm lighting to go with it. All the dishes we tried were good, very different than what you find in your typical Balinese restaurant. Scallop ceviche with coconut broth is a standout dish for us, lobster dumplings were also a delicate yet a dish packed with flavour. The whole topiaca fried fish came in a large portion, but perfectly fried, not oily and was a enjoyable fish. We enjoyed our meal at this restaurant and another good restaurant choice in Ubud town for a new take on Balinese cuisine.

Hujan Locale was our best meal in Ubud, and for less than half the price, trumped even the celebrated foodie places we’d original sought out. The restaurant looks beautiful inside and out, and is in a great location, just around the corner from Ubud Palace in the centre of town. Food is a gourmet spin on traditional Indonesian dishes and everything we tried was superb – tuna betel leaf, grilled corn, duck salad and of course the superb beef brisket rendang. Service was magnificent – staff went over and above to identify and explain gluten-free meals and recommend dishes and there‘s a great list of juices and non-alcoholic crushes. If you only eat out one night in Ubud, make it Hujan.

Just wow! Delicious food and surprising combinations with regards to the dishes. Can definitely recommend their Tuna Pomolo Watermelon dish, just incredible! Save some space for their salted caramel popcorn desert. It’s a winner!

One of our best meals in Ubud! I’d recommend booking. They were fully booked when I tried to make a reservation a couple of days out, however the downstairs bar area is available for walk-ins and has the same menu. My partner and I only waited about 10 minutes before being seated around 8pm on a Sunday evening. Perhaps only suitable for groups of four of less though.

One of the best in Ubud! I can't forget the food I ate here. Ambience, food and service is 10/10. I had stated that it was my sister's birthday while making the reservation ahead. At the end of the meal, they surprised us with ice cream and candles. A delicious restaurant with incredibly sweet employees. I look forward to stopping by again when I come to Bali. This restaurant is my heartfelt recommendation to friends. Thank you for everything! We had an incredibly enjoyable evening thanks to you <3

Delicious food that are well presented. We especially loved the two starters we ordered, the cured tuna and the groupa dumplings. The dumplings are actually what we call siu mai and they were the best dumplings we had ever had all over the world! That's a big statement to make for across the Asia Pacific and the American continent. We were pleasantly surprised. The creme brulee was also very nice. The decor was beautiful and the staff were attentive and friendly.

We keep going back. This is our third year eating there and it has always been amazing. The green papaya salad is to die for and the beef Rendamg is the best of Indonesia ( I tried the Sumatran, Flores and others… this is the best!) Even the beef sate which is a mix of steak and tongue was delicious. Yellow rice in palm leaf and the sea food dumplings kings were also great. Good service, beautiful setting and fab food.

The restaurant provided a very positive experience overall. The food was delicious, the service was good, and the cleanliness was well-maintained. The staff member named Dayu was also very friendly and helpful. She was able to handle the busyness of the restaurant and interact with the guests well. The other staff were also very friendly and helpful. The air circulation in the restaurant was also good, so it didn't feel stuffy. The toilet was clean and well-maintained. The parking area is limited, but central public parking is located 5 minutes away on foot.

All the dishes we had were great but you best believe when I say the beef rendang is life changing… this is a rather expensive place with prices comparable to restaurants of a similar calibre in Singapore but you know what.. take my money, because I’m still dreaming of that rendang one month later..

Really delicious food and the atmosphere is really amazing. It's giving very 1950s vibes and the food selection was excellent. Definitely give it a try when you're in Ubud! It's pricier than more food here just as a heads up but well worth it!

Fabulous Indonesian food with a twist. This place was recommended by our hotel and a friend, it is very busy and popular, probably best to book in advance. We managed to sit by the bar area without a booking but it was a low table not very comfortable.. but the food was excellent, so nicely presented and packed with flavour. Prices are definitely higher than your average in Bali, it's a more luxurious kind of place good for a special occasion.

Everything was simply delicious! We managed to get a table without reservations but it was full, and we got lucky. Every bite and every sip was yummy. While everything was yummy, the standout was the Ginger Lemongrass Creme Brulee with strawberry mint leaf honey, black pepper salted caramel stick. It was a special, do try it if it's avialable!

What a flavor! Really good to excellent tastes, nice regional produce. Especially the starters were amazing. Scallops ‘ceviche’ with coconut juice marinade, nice small additions in the dish like fingerlimes, nice charred romaine-lettuce with shaved sweet corn and buttermilk dressing, soft shell crab a bit spicy, the corn salad, Sumatrapepperaioli and pork floss ‘Rousong’ was really great. The grilled octopus with young sour starfruit and green chilli was tender and delicious !The price-quality is very reasonable. Will be back. Service very kind ….👌
