The hotel grounds were stunning and the rooms were getting a little run down, the view was beautiful from the balcony though but where we were right by the road made it extremely noisy it was lucky I bought my own earplugs. The buffet breakfast was great and changed everyday, the reason for our 2star rating though is that something we bought still had the tags on was stolen from our room and they handle it completely unprofessionally the manager bought all the cleaners to us and we were told that we must of misplaced it knowing full well we didn't as the other new items it was with were still there. They then wanted to check our room in our presence. They didn't offer to compensate or be accountable at all. They offered to get the police involved and that was it. So that experience ruined our time there we asked that no one enter our room for the rest of our time there and locked everything and photographed everything after that.

Authentic Balinese experience. The Hotel is beautiful, centrally located and the view from the room spectacular. Rooms are a bit dated but extremely spacious, neat and clean. Excellent onsite spa, hot and cold pools. There are many stairs to and from the rooms and onsite services- this is not unmanageable but worth noting if you have mobility challenges

Second time to stay at the Tjampuhan Hotel & Spa in Ubud. This Hotel is set in a gorgeous, quiet part of Ubud. Easy walk into central Ubud with ease. Hotel staff are always available to help with any request. Breakfast was plentiful and a great variety on offer. Dinner, lunch and snack menu had many options and what a setting to sit and eat. Scattered throughout the Hotel there were many little spots to sit and enjoy the stunning view over the river. Both pools are nestled into the lush grounds of the Hotel and are a wonderful setting to sit and enjoy the heat of Ubud. We were in the Pura rooms area of the Hotel. The room was large with plenty of space, although this room could definitely do with some updating. This did not deter though from our wonderful stay at this hotel. Will definitely return again.

An upfront disclaimer, we didn't stay here and only visited friends who did. The hotel is in a good location and situated over a hill side which makes it not very friendly as far as wheelchair access is concerned. The room in my view is very old with bathroom that requires a serious renovation. The customer service when we visited was great. I suppose, it's not a bad value for a place relatively close to town and surrounded by green hills.

Those place was not bad. A little bit expensive. It's almost double the price of anywhere that you go on the street in Bali. I believe it was 500,000 for a fairly relaxing massage. It's a nice view from the beds. You can hear the the river below you

I stayed in this property for my stay in Ubud. Beautiful property. Ants in room. Rooms and amenities are pretty old. Otherwise staff food view are good. Very limited options in breakfast buffet.

I wanted to stay there forever. This hotel is just a perfect choice for those looking for a quite and secluded rest. All villas stand separately from each other, all rooms have stunning view on the jungle. They have 2 pools and a spa centre, the massage is good. The breakfast is tasty, and all the staff so helpful.

This place feels like it has seen better days. My partner stayed here 15 years ago and said it was impeccable but now it has lost its charm. The rooms are a tired but spacious and beautifully put together. There was a bath but unfortunately the plug was broken so we could only use the shower. Staff (of which there are many) are all very nice but appear to be standing around not doing much. Pools are not good. One is full of algae and insects (more like a glorified pond) and the other is not much better and packed with high school students. The lounges are mouldy and stained. The food is terrible. The buffet breakfast was like eating bad airplane food. Club sandwich was $14, unseasoned, cold and we were made to pay upfront (for room service) instead of adding it to our bill which is weird. They should get a new chef. This place has a lot of potential but needs to step up its game. Room is $100 a night but you can find nicer options in ubud for half the price. I hope this place can turn it around because you can tell it was once somewhere special

This is the best hotel ive ever been in.. the views are AWESOME!!!!! We can stay just stay in the hotel and have tons of activities we can do. There is a spa , 2 swimming pools and a river passing by alongside the hotel , a small temple, lotus pond etc On the arrival, we were made to sit in the reception where we got mesmerised by the views while the staff made our room ready and provided with the breakfast vouchers etc.. we were greeted with a cold ice tea and refreshing wet towels to clean our face. The travel in the hot climate outside and the welcome with these cold drinks & towels made us really happy!! They also provided complimentary chocolates, cool drinks and water bottles in the mini bar The washroom was also loaded with many essentials like dental kit, hygiene kits, soaps n shampoos etc But also many rooms did not have the wash gun beside the commode. If you are someone who needs it , make sure to specify that at the reception while booking the room itself. There is also a breakfast option available where you will be able to experience many Indonesian dishes in savoury and sweets , live egg/omelet counter , water , drinks, cereals , fruits, desserts etc The breakfast place is a beautiful location too.. There are many restaurants near by and market places approximately 1km away . Its a very happening place But keep in mind, the traffic is very huge as the roads are very narrow around the hotel. So make sure to reach the airport way ahead than required. We had a very narrow chance of missing our flight inspite of leaving 4 hours before the flight time.

The traditional architecture, gardens with lotus-pond, and view overlooking the river-gorge are unbeatable! This is a historic retreat, and would be so lovely if the rooms were more meticulously maintained. There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling that gave the room a musty smell, and our lower level rooms were fairly dark. Breakfast buffet was a lovely spread, but as with a lot of restaurant food in Bali, I found it strangely tasteless (maybe OK for more delicate tastebuds?) If Iโ€™d made the effort to move to a different room I think it would have been a stellar experience โ€” some (maybe more expensive) bungalows looked beautiful with big windows and generous porches.

Stayed here a week, on a solo holiday, first impression was of faded grandeur which fits but I became more and more comfortable in the hotel as the week progressed. Its close enough to town to walk in (though having a moped is better) yet feels completely secluded when you're in your room. Incredibly verdant. Spa & massage was excellent. Restaurant only ok but there's plenty of other options up and down the road. All up quite a special place.

Only good thing about this place is Location which is beautiful and very close to nature, but the hotel itself really needs to invest some money to update and upgrade its facilities, like rooms (which only look good in pictures) , beds, mattresses, pillows, doors, windows, restaurant area, poolside area and spa area, overall everything needs to be updated, everything is so old and shabby. Also there is nothing good about the service apart from happy and smily staff. I booked Tjampuhan Honeymoon Package directly with the hotel on their website, thinking that we will be treated as a Honeymoon couple should be treated but it was a huge disappointment. According to our Tjampuhan Honeymoon Package we should have been provided with a basket of fruit on arrival but we were disappointed to see a basket with 4 pieces of fruit ,which I could easily hold in my fist, with one of the fruit had fungus on it so we did not touch the fruit (the value of the fruit basket was not more than 20000IDR = ยฃ1.10). We were also offered a candle light dinner as a part of our package but after having breakfast and lunch in their restaurant few times, we did not bother to go for it as we did not find their food tasty. Also they have a set menu for this deal and we did not like anything on the menu. We ask hotel to cancel our dinner which we supposed to have had one night before our check out. I was also surprised that the hotel management did not bother to ask us why we rejected their candle light dinner. They did not even bother to ask anything about their services or questions like how was our stay or something like that at the check out time. They just took the full payment, gave us the bill and thats it nothing else. I will not recommend this hotel for this price (ยฃ70/night) I think we did not receive the service and quality for the value of money we paid. It was also mentioned in the package that we will be given a surprised gift on our check out but no one from hotel management mentioned anything. I also wanted to mention here that we did not make any complains to the hotel for any of the above mention things as we did not want to waste our time and energy for negative things and also it was a short 4 night stay. However if we had stayed longer I probably would have complained but I don't think they would have dealt with any these issue professionally.

An absolutely stunning location, spoiled by poor service. If you like spending ~$100 per person, for a 45 minute massage while listening to angle grinding and hammering, and then maybe this place is for you? Our two hour package was supposed to include an hours massage, which they finished early, and did not ask for the intensity. We then had a scrub applied, and then waited half an hour of just laying there waiting for it to dry. The herbal bath was unavailable, only flower bath. Staff were uncommunicative and the total service time excluding waiting could not have been more than 1hr 15. Hotel pool was undergoing works right next to massage rooms and from the pool or path you could see directly into the massage rooms (while you are essentially naked moving between bath and bed) The only redeeming feature of the place was the view from the sauna/hot/cold pool area. Be warned that the rocks are extremely slippery when wet. Ice pool is as described which was pleasing. If we had not payed upfront, I would have had a very hard time paying for this. Do not recommend spa treatments, however the sauna area and view were great

An absolutely gorgeous setting, with excellent service, pool, lotus display, and day spa. The breakfasts are lovely, the staff super friendly and the beds very comfortable. There are lots of stairs so it's easier if you're fit. Also, bring a small power board and travel converter plug as there aren't many power points.

Absolutely beautiful! Scenery is amazing, from the carvings and statues in the rocks and walls to the forest and river around the hotel. Very quiet and natural - great place to rest and relax. (not buzzing and noisy like main towns) Service is wonderful and very helpful.

Experience the delights of nature in this rain-forest retreat - an interesting place to stay. You really are in the rain-forest, with a raging river running by you - the grounds are spectacular - made up of lots of levels, terraces, 2 pools, a central pond, interesting sculptures + carved statues and artwork. A temple is accessible over a bridge from the hotel grounds and we really enjoyed the setting for our spa treatments. Daily breakfast made things so much easier and the staff were attentive. Our room was a little dark and we had to be mindful of the louvred windows with mosquitoes at night. The bathroom was very dated & not super clean but we didnโ€™t spend a lot of time in there so not the end of the world. March 2018

Thank you on all levels of service provided by the kind and friendly staff. Room was perfect and if I woke up to that view each day I'd never go anywhere. Rooms very clean, food great and location was perfect. Obviously I recommend by my comments and would return.

Tjampuhan hotel is an absolute work of art. I believe it was the first hotel in Ubud, and round the corner Marnie's was the first restaurant (also worth a visit). The hotel grounds, view, and general atmosphere of the place is awesome and quintessential Bali. Wonderful buffet breakfast with tonnes of options including lots of balinese staples, staff are very professional and friendly, and location is walking distance to central ubud whilst being just far enough to be whisper quiet and feel like you're in the middle of the jungle. Only gripe is the bathrooms could do with a bit of an update, but apart from that couldn't recommend more highly.

  • 3/5 Estefania T. 4 months ago on Google
It's always nice staying at the Tjampujan. The breakfast is lovely with Balinese options, the location is great, the staff is friendly, and the spa facilities are excellent. However, I think the bathrooms are in urgent need of a revamp. Other than that, it is a beautiful hotel. I do think the prices are a bit high.

The location is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel is part of a wider group of hotels, and there is an option to upgrade to higher-end 5-star villas, which is what my wife and I did.

Great location. Beautiful rooms and lookout in lush gardens. Food at restaurant excellent. Friendly helpful staff. The spa is in lovely setting over the river and worth the extra money. The hotel is a short walk to nearby restaurants and stores. In addition there us a natural spring water pool which makes a refreshing swim on a hot day.

Wonderful hotel with Balinese soul. There are a lot of trees and jumping squirrels in the hotel area. The hotel staff is very nice and will be happy to help in any situation. Two swimming pools allow you to cool off on a hot day. You must also visit the spa and get massages!!!

A hidden gem in the middle of Ubud! Spacious rooms with great views. We could see squirrels and birds from our balcony. Very relaxing atmosphere. All the staff are very nice and helpful. Strongly recommended hotel! The only downside: not suitable for those with mobility difficulties due to many stairs to reach your room.

Well I booked and wanted to stay here .. oldest hotel in Ubud Built in 1928.. Beautiful Architecture.. However 97 stairs down to our room then 97 back up .. 3 times a day ...๐Ÿ˜ฑ Staff were friendly.. Food and Breakfast at Restaurant was Average. Small pool.. Very Damp...in bedroom Nothing would dry.. So I guess been there done that .. I wouldn't stay again

The pillow is very old, not white but yellow and I felt sick because of it. The location and garden in the hotel is super nice. But the room need urgent renovation especially the bathroom and bedding.

My partner and I stayed for 3 days, the staff were excellent and made sure to accommodate us at every opportunity. We stayed in the coconut room, the room was a bit old and due to this there was some wear and tear which is expected. There was a small problem with our shower but it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. There were some bugs around but this is expected when staying so close to nature. Buffet breakfast was great with a rotating variety of foods. Pools were a little out dated also but still perfect for a quick swim and somewhere to relax. Located very close to the ubud markets with lots of activity for both vendors, food and temples. We loved our stay here, thank you for having us.

Really good hotel. The room is really big with a bath. The site is amazing in the middle of the forest next to the river. There are two swimming pools. We didn't try the spa but it seems a little expensive. Only small regret , the breakfast is not diverse and the food could be better

  • 5/5 Amanda N. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely stunning and breathtaking hotel views and beautiful rooms! Only issue I had was the lovely ants would come for my room service plate when l finished but they were happy to come collect it afterwards but the front desk was super helpful and always an abundance of staff throughout the hotel to greet you and if you need a helping hand they are there. Spa was good value but the spas in town were was cheaper. But you don't get the calling environment in the busy city ones. Room service was pricey.

Very relaxed hotel and very friendly and helpful staff. The bungalows are set in a very nice tropical garden. There are 2 swimming pools. The spring pool is not very clean and looks like a fish pound. The main swimming pool has the sun all day. There should be more deck chairs near the pool, umbrellas for shade where not available. The water quality of both pools could be better.

It was such a wonderful experience here! If you are looking for more of a relaxing, unique hotel to stay at where you have more personal space between rooms with amazing tropical jungle, river views at your front porch, then definitely go here! I will happily stay here again next trip. And of course always lovely staff and service that are very friendly/chatty

This hotel is an icon, almost 100yrs of established landscaping, structure, well maintained property. Its like stepping back in time to the old Ubud before modernisation. If you love history, architecture, history then this hotel is for you It has a fantastic natural spring cold plunge pool, thermal spring heated spa , sauna and steam room all set in a setting like no other. If your looking for an old balinese experience with thatched roofed villas that are comfortable in nature then this well positioned hotel only a short 10min stroll from the centre of town is for you as it was for us. Peace out!

Lovely hotel with beautiful Balinese architecture. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful, at first glance looks quite simple but such amazing flavours! Very well priced. Rooms are large with gorgeous views. I had a spa treatment that was professional and relaxing. Clean facilities. The only downside is that there are a LOT of stairs and you are constantly walking either up hill or downhill to get around the hotel - not a problem for me but I could see it being an issue for someone with more limited mobility. I would definitely stay here again!

  • 5/5 Nathan V. 1 year ago on Google
We stayed in the Walter Spies room which was fantastic. A beautiful old, original building surrounded by tropical gardens. The staff were excellent. The location was just outside of the hustle & bustle which we were happy about. Food was very good & the manager of over 30 years took time to ensure our stay was going well. Also enjoyed the famous spa pools which were an interesting extra. Highly recommended.

  • 2/5 Victoria R. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel has very low cleaning standards as there were stains on sheets and towels, dirty floors and not proper sealing on windows so insects and pests are able to get into the room. This hotel needs an update and to improve cleaning standards. The two stars are for the nice view of the trees and temple. I also wouldnโ€™t recommend this hotel for people who have trouble climbing stairs as this hotel has a lot of stairs.

Complimentary Shuttle Service still advertised on their website and on their brochures in the hotel. Main reason why we have booked Tjampuhan. Upon check-in staff staid they have stopped shuttle service since Covid and had not brought it back, they just said โ€œsorryโ€ and will let their boss know to change the websiteโ€ฆ quite disappointing. We paid almost 3,900,000 RPI for 2 nights stay (3 people). Breakfast is ok with a lot of fruits. Pool is no longer maintained and complimentary Wifi does not seem to work very well. We had booked a Deluxe Room with Airconditioning. Rooms need maintenance work.

Lovely place. Stunning landscaping. Location is good - 15 or so minute walk to the palace and you can always find a taxi. Staff are extremely kind and helpful, even giving me directions to the closest laundry. Room was gorgeous, and heck of a view into the jungle. Really loved my stay.

hi recommended to every one that if you want to go to Bali divide your time in stay in this hotel ( or another hotel in UBOD ) and another place in KOTA area . very good atmosphere. very beautiful view . good breakfast . old some things like as plugs bathroom . some ant was in the room . but it was a nice experience.

  • 2/5 F P. 1 year ago on Google
The stay was ok. First room was very old, damp a bit dirty and needs a make-over. After we discovered a rat in the room (no joke) we got a new room. This one was much newer and cleaner. However, it was located closer to the street and therefore very noisy. When booking, make sure you get one of the renovated rooms not located at the street!! The hotel staff is very friendly and supportive. Pools are ok (one was under construction and not usable). Considering the price, the breakfast was ok. Location is perfect for discovering Ubud and all of central and northern Bali.

The accomodation itself was only topped by the kindness, generosity and helpfulness of the staff. Truly a beautiful part of the world with everything you need right in one spot. We experienced an incredible romantic dinner set up by the hotel, enjoyed an amazing and varied breakfast each morning and were within perfect proximity from central Ubud. The spa facilities were also fantastic. Cannot recommend highly enough and look forward to bringing our friends here to share the experiences next time. This is a place for you, if you are looking for a relaxing time away.
