I spent many happy and memorable days over 3 weeks at Sari Api. While there are different class options, I opted for personal lessons as I was keen to specifically learn the throwing method on the wheel. Suzan is a wonderful teacher - skilful, generous in sharing her knowledge and customised her lessons to my level of expertise and interest. She knows how to push and challenge you and analyses each successful piece - and importantly, every piece that did not transform from a lump of clay to a recognisable pot. Could not be happier with the final results from the kiln. That each session is sprinkled with humour and laughter makes the time move along fast. Agus, her able assistant, is supportive and friendly and super helpful. Her showroom of studio pieces at her showroom in Ubud is brilliant. Waiting to return. Strongly recommended.

I have wanted to learn pottery for quite some time. I find that I need to immerse myself to learn something in order to give me time to absorb. I registered to learn over 5 days, 3 hours per day. I am currently on day four and am feeling a little sad that tomorrow will be my last day. The studio- the setting is absolutely beautiful and serene. It is covered, but open air. I love hearing the cicadas and roosters while I work. There are two dogs who keep me company. I am greeted with a kind smile and enthusiasm every morning. Suzan- I feel grateful that my first experience with pottery has been with Suzan. She is very experienced. Her teaching style is clear and simple, step by step. She gives you space to learn through error and repitition. When she sees you repeating a mistake, she will intervene to correct you and explain why something isn't working. Her firm and clear style combined with her sweet voice make her a pleasure to learn from. She has been living in Bali for 25 years and really cares for the people. I think it's extra special to spend time with her and learn about Bali through her eyes. Class time is from 9:30-12:30. This leaves the rest of the day to do anything you please. * I have seen people come through for one day workshops. The studio makes it a point for everyone to try hand and wheel building and to complete a piece in their session. That being said, I would highly recommend doing more than one day if you can. I am looking forward to returning.

Update: I expected to pick up my bowls after they were glazed as they said it would be done in 2-3 weeks. When I checked I. They were not done and I was set to leave island. The staff at api were not willing to send (at their expense) or even give to a friend. I’m back in bali now and I got to pick them up. Luckily they saved them but I would never recommend this place to anyone This is a very basic class without much playfulness. Over priced for what you get to do and no leniency on time. Agus seemed a bit bothered when I didn’t get the wheel right on the first go. He was worried about time. I was not able to try all the technics he showed me as he would not let me try while showing me. He had to do all 3 and then I got to try but only until my time was up and we had to move to the wheel. All the while telling me what I would learn in the full class but that it is not offered at this time. The 1/2 class is way to expensive for this kind of treatment. Also... They have a very aggressive dog that tried to bite me and attacked my dog. The owner said it was my fault for bringing my dog. Even tho I said to close the gate and keep him outside the studio. My dog is not aggressive and goes everywhere in bali with me. Restaurant, massage, yoga studios, movie theatre. There has never been a problem. This is the first place that has had an aggressive dog that caused a problem.

My class was rushed thru, cut short and I wasn't able to get the finished pieces back for over a year. They don't tell you that they may decide not to do a firing for many more weeks than what they say when you first sign up and then refuse to ship your pieces to you if you don't want to pay $75.00 Please note that others have had similar experiences

Definitely my favorite place in Bali 🥰. I booked a 1 week Pottery workshop at Sari Api and stayed for another 5 Months. I just fell in love with the place, the people (Suzan the owner as the heart of the studio, Agus who was always there with his patience to guide you in the proces, Anggio and Cherrie who where super nice interns). It became my second home, made friends for a lifetime and really hope to can go back one day. If you are looking for a Pottery class, guided by the best teachers around within an open-air jungle studio, this is definitely your place 😊🙏💚.

Our children went to the kids class on a Saturday. Wonderful teachers to help them with their ideas. They were really proud of their creations. Really great that they are allowed a turn on the pottery wheel.

Excellent, loosely guided classes for children, in ceramic art, including time on the wheel, every Saturday, 10:30 till 12:00. Superb!

A two month stay with the goal to deepen my ceramic skills turned into a six months stay. Sari Api is my absolute favorite studio in town, beautifully located in the rice paddies of Ubud. Fair priced, good technical skill and knowledge, low key, creative, small scaled and personal. I took several week courses and practiced my skills with independent studio. Run by a wonderful team (Suzan and Agus), whom have professional knowledge and skill. Last but not least, there is a wonderful children’s class in the weekend, an absolute must!

A regular here. Open air studio with just enough space to work on some projects —mostly small to medium ones. Great glazes! And Agus is very helpful too. One of the hidden gems in Ubud for sure.

I wanted to book a class - first nobody replied and even during opening hours I could not reach anybody on the phone. Then they wrote me back after the class started, that I could have participated but now its too late. The next class that should happen according to their scedule they said is not taking place so they suggested me (after hours of waiting for a reply) to come the the following day and pay extra for that. This class though they also cancelled on me 30min before it should start. Never experienced a worse communication with clients. And the thing is run by a Swiss lady (who charges twice the amount you would normally pay here for anything) so it can not be blamed on a different perception of time due to culture or something. By the way I went there by foot (its outside town) also because I thought maybe its easier to clear things in person - but nobody was there even though it was during their opening hours. What a waste of time in my holidays.

Absolutely loved Suzan and this 3 hour workshop. She is a gorgeous fun human who has so much knowledge and wants to share it all. She explains everything in detail while also giving you as much time to play and make as many pieces as you can in the time. Worth the money and your time! I’ll be back soon x

Great 1.5 hour for the children to create whatever they want from clay. Parents observed, some were helping. 😉 It take min 3 weeks to get our creations back burnt. Max 25 children but only first 15 get to have a go on the spinning wheel. Cool experience. Very friendly staff with very good English.

Agus and Anggie are delightful. Their instructions were easy to follow and enabled a really fun experience. It costs approx $50 to post four pieces back to Australia if you aren't in Ubud to do the firing (min stay 3 weeks). I will be recommending the ceramics class to all of my friends and family!
