5 Interesting Facts about Lake Pichola, Udaipur: 1. Lake Pichola is an artificial freshwater lake and one of the oldest and largest lakes in Udaipur. It was created in 1362 AD and expanded by subsequent rulers. 2. The lake is surrounded by picturesque hills, palaces, temples, and bathing ghats (steps leading to the water) that add to its scenic beauty, making it a popular tourist attraction. 3. Lake Pichola is known for its two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir. Jag Niwas, also known as Lake Palace, is a stunning palace-turned-hotel that appears to float on the lake's surface. Jag Mandir, another island palace, served as a refuge for Mughal prince Khurram (later Emperor Shah Jahan) when he rebelled against his father. 4. The lake has four main islands, namely Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Arsi Vilas, and Mohan Mandir. These islands were primarily used for royal retreats and as venues for hosting lavish parties and events. 5. Boating in Lake Pichola is a popular activity for tourists. Several options are available, including motorboats, traditional wooden boats, and luxurious sunset cruises, allowing visitors to enjoy the lake's serene beauty and get a close view of the surrounding palaces. 5 Historical Facts about Lake Pichola, Udaipur: 1. Lake Pichola was created by Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur, by constructing a dam on the Pichola River. The purpose was to provide a sustainable water supply to the city. 2. The lake played a crucial role in the defense strategy of the rulers of Udaipur. It acted as a natural barrier, protecting the city from external invasions. 3. During the rule of Maharana Sangram Singh II, the lake faced severe drought conditions, leading to water scarcity. To address this issue, the Maharana constructed the famous Fateh Sagar Lake in 1678, which served as a supplementary reservoir to Lake Pichola. 4. Over the centuries, various rulers of Udaipur contributed to the development and beautification of Lake Pichola. The palaces and other structures around the lake were built to enhance its scenic appeal and create a luxurious retreat for the royalty. 5. The historical importance of Lake Pichola is evident from the fact that it has been featured in several Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Its stunning beauty and architectural marvels make it a sought-after location for filmmakers, adding to its cultural significance.

Lake Pichola, situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362, named after the nearby Picholi village. It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. The lakes around Udaipur were primarily created by building dams to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the city and its neighbourhood. Two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are located within Pichola Lake, and have been developed with several palaces to provide views of the lake. There are four islands on the lake: Jag Niwas, where the Lake Palace is built. Jag Mandir, with the palace of the same name. Mohan Mandir, from where the king would watch the annual Gangaur festival celebration. Arsi Vilas, small island which was an ammunition depot, but also a small palace. This one was built by one of the Maharanas of Udaipur to enjoy the sunset on the lake. It is also a sanctuary catering to a variety of birds, including tufted ducks, coots, egrets, terns, cormorants and kingfishers. Three of the numerous lakes found in the vicinity of Udaipur which connect with the Pichola lake and the Swaroop Sagar Lake connected by an arched bridge built by Maharana Swaroop Singh (1842-1861) which in turn connects to the Fateh Sagar Lake, the crystal watered lake in the midst of tree lined hills and the smaller Arsi Vilas. According to a study carried out by the "Centre of Advanced Study in Geology", Punjab University, the water quality of the lake has a high sodium and Bicarbonate content, which is attributed to the continental weathering due to anthropogenic pressure (tourist influx), intense development activities in the basin area and untreated effluent from municipal and domestic sewage into the Lake. The semi arid conditions of the area, saline and alkaline soils/groundwater conditions and weathering of the silicate rock exposed in the drainage basin are assessed as the reasons for the supply of major ions.

Pichola Lake was built in 1362 AD by Banjara, a gypsy "Banjara" tribesman who transported grain, during the reign of Maharana Lakha. Later, Maharana Udai Singh, impressed by the charm of this lake with the backdrop of green hills, founded the city of Udaipur on the banks of the lake and also enlarged the Lake by constructing a stone masonry dam in the Badipol region on the shore of the Lake. The lake's surroundings and the several islands within the lake have been developed over the centuries, with palaces, marble temples, family mansions, bathing ghats or chabutaras (a raised platform, normally within a courtyard); some of the famous ones are the Lake Palace (now converted into a heritage hotel) in the middle of the lake also called the Pichola Palace (pictured) or Jag Nivas located on the Jag Island, the Jag Mandir, the Mohan Mandir (in the northeast corner of the lake built by Jagat Singh between 1628 and 1652), the City Palace of Udaipur (Bansi Ghat) from where boats ply to all other parts of the Lake, the Arsi Vilas Island, which is a sanctuary for birds and the Sitamata Game Sanctuary on the western shore of the Lake. At several locations where the lake narrows, ornamental arch bridges have been built to span the waterway between the banks.[ Prince Khurram who rebelled against Jahangir, sought refuge of the Mewar King Maharana Karan Singh II in 1623 and was housed in the partially completed Jag Mandir. Prince Khurram later usurped the Mughal Empire, took the title of Shah Jahan

A boat ride on the pristine and gorgeous Lake Pichola should be on the top of your itinerary when visiting Udaipur! It’s an experience that I carry with me almost two months post my visit to Udaipur. I highly recommend planning your ride just before the sunset to truly grasp the beauty of this stunning lake and its surroundings.

Lake Pichola, arranged in Udaipur city in the Indian territory of Rajasthan, is a fake new water lake, made in the year 1362 AD, named after the close by Picholi town. It is one of the few bordering lakes, and created throughout the most recent couple of hundreds of years in and around the acclaimed Udaipur city.

The water looks so beautiful and blue. The boat ride from the city palace takes you to the tour of the lake. It is adjacent to the city palace and the ride times are very limited. In the peak time, there can be so much of wait time. I would suggest to book your boat ride first and then go to visit the city palace.

Beautiful lake in the center of the city. The views on the boat ride are just amazing. The boat ride, however, is ridiculously expensive (500 rupees/person) and a bit unorganised. The ride is for around 60 mins, around 20 mins to reach an island in the middle and the 20 mins back. On the island you can be stuck for a good while if you fail to catch the boat that's taking people back, because the boat only holds 30 people at a time and because no Indian can wait for their turn, you may have to wait nearly 30 mins or more for another ride back.

Lake Pichola is one of the most beautiful sights of Udaipur. Picholi was the name of a village that lent its name to the lake. The islands of Jagniwas and Jagmandir are housed in this lake. Along the eastern banks of the lake lies the City Palace. A boat ride in the lake around sunset offers a breathtaking view of the Lake and City Palace.

Pichola Lake in Udaipur is like a dream come true. It's a stunning, big lake that makes you feel like you're in a fairy tale. The most famous thing on the lake is the Lake Palace. It's like a palace right out of a storybook, floating on the water. You can even stay there! It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it for the experience. There's another island in the lake called Jag Mandir. It's like a hidden treasure with beautiful gardens and a cool palace. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy the view. But the best part is the boat ride 🛶🚣‍♂️ on the lake. You get on a little boat, and it takes you around. You can see the City Palace, old buildings, and the hills in the background. When the sun starts to set, the whole lake lights up, and it's magical. Pichola Lake is like a picture from a storybook. It's beautiful, romantic, and a must-visit if you ever go to Udaipur. You won't forget it 🔥❤️✨ must go once

Lake Pichola is a scenic spot and a must visit in your itinerary on your visit to Udaipur. It is one of the oldest man made lakes in Udaipur and inside it lie the islands of Jagmandir and Jag Niwas. The Lake Palace is built in the Jag Niwas island. We were suggested boat rides but we had to miss it due to the long waiting period as there was a lot of crowd. We firstly viewed it from the lanes of the City Palace. The boat rides from there are a bit expensive(approx 500 per person). We can also opt for group boat rides from outside the City palace which definitely costs less. There is also an option of Speed boat ride for 3 minutes at about Rs.250 per person. It is usually crowded at evening times as people flock there to view the sunset via the boat ride.

It's was first time experience for me to do boating in pichola lake, and best part was Sunset, to watch sunset in middle of the water and that too moving water over boat was super nice experience, I thought to click more pictures but I decided no to click much just enjoy boating while sunset, it was super amazing experience and that yo end of winter, boat took us to close to city palace, lake palace, leelaleela palace, jag mandir and very 🆑close to helipad point just over lake. I feel every person should visit for boating ride and too just sunset time because it has different and amazing vibes while sunset

Definitely worth a visit. Take the amazing boat ride which is 20 mins long. Have a look at all famous properties around like City Palace, Leela, Udai Vilas and so many more. The lake is beautiful surrounded with ample space to sit, munch and relax. From Camel Ride to Maggi points to Bhutta stalls, you can find it all. A ticket for boat ride costs Rs.165 per person. You can also book an entire boat for yourself if you have 10-20 people in your group. Great Selfie points and scenic spaces for fancy photos and Instagram reels. Definitely crowded on weekends. Great place for kids.

Its awesome, for photoshoot/pre-wedding shoot, sunset time is perfect you see huge crowd here. Fir tourist it’s perfect place where you get lots of hotels for stay - lake facing hotel un budget like in 3000-5000rs. Go in morning before 8am for photo shoot- no crowd in morning. Evening 6pm for sunset and you can spend a evening at the lake.

The lake is exquisite would be an understatement!! It was serene, Crystal clear & maintained to the hilt. Though one sore point was high ticket charges to enjoy boat riding to Jagmandir. Still a worthy place to spend one's hard earned money.

You will feel refresh and rejuvenating once you are there, sitting on the ghat during sunset and enjoying blue cold water keeping your leg in it. Have various luxurious island hotels and rooftop restaurants all around this lake. Some of them are The Taj Lake Palace, Leela Palace, Jagmandir, Restaurant Ambrai, upre. It's a good place to visit. You can find a lot of local food stalls with a variety of food to choose from. There is kulhadd coffee and tea also available. You can also do boating. I would recommend speed boating which is a good experience. There is Nehru garden which can also be explored. You can also explore India's largest aquarium - under the sun. It's better to visit at the night. You can also watch light and sound show.

Lake pichola is one of the happening places in Udaipur, one of the most interesting activity to do here is boating. The body ride takes you around for a 20 min ride along the most iconic building along the shores of pichola. This also has karni Mata ropeway, which is a decent ride to an average temple.

It is the famous lake of Udaipur city, inside which is located the famous Jal Mahal. One can have a look at it from various places like Gangaur Ghat, City Palace, Karni Mata Mandir, etc. The boating prices are little expensive. But if you wish to do so, I'll recommend you for the evening time. Also, please keep the lake clean and don't throw any garbage into it.
