I visited on December 2nd, 2020. A 2-3 minute walk from the Hojo Garden of Tofukuji Temple, you will cross the wooden bridge bridge called Egetsukyo (Egetsukyo), which spans the valley called Sengyokukan. Stone statues of Nio are enshrined on either side of the Sanmon gate. In the late Heian period, Kanpaku Fujiwara no Tadamichi built the Imperial Palace's East Mido Hall on this site. Tadamichi's son, Kanezane, made his mountain villa Tsukiwa-dono. ``Sokusoin'' garden is the site of ``Tsukirinden.'' It has a reputation for the beauty of its autumn leaves and cedar moss, and in winter you can see the red and yellow ``Senryo'' fruits. This time I visited the garden from inside the building. (No entry was allowed inside the garden.) There were chairs set up inside the building so we could relax and enjoy the garden.

Proceed through the passage to the right of the Hojo of Tofuku-ji Temple and cross the bridge to find Sokushu-in Temple. This garden is said to be the site of a mountain lodge called Tsukiwa-dono. Currently, it is designated as a historic site of Kyoto City. It was raining, so we couldn't go into the garden, but the view from the building was beautiful. It is said that during the Meiji Restoration, Saigo Takamori defeated the Shogunate army by firing a cannon from the mountain behind where he was hiding. There was a cenotaph for the warriors of the Satsuma domain, handwritten by Saigo Takamori.

This is the family temple of the Shimazu family located on the east side of Ryugin-an, and is known as a temple associated with Honen Shonin and Saigo Takamori. There are the ruins of the tea room ``Torigi-tei,'' where Saigo Takamori and Gessho Shonin are said to have had secret meetings, and a monument commemorating Saigo Takamori's death during the Eastern Conquest.

2022/11/25 Sokushuin Special viewing: Until December 4, 2022 We pass through the crowd of tourists at Tsutenbashi reception and cross Egetsu Bridge. Admission fee is 300 yen, the autumn leaves are beautiful and there are not many people. It's a little-known spot because you can sit on a chair and enjoy the beautiful garden slowly 🍁 Due to the weather, the leaves are turning more beautiful than last week, but they may already start to wither next week. If you go a little further up the mountain path in the back, you will find a monument written by Takamori Saigo in commemoration of the deaths of Satsuma feudal warriors during the Eastern Conquest. Apparently Saigo Takamori's younger brother's name is also engraved on it, so be sure to look for it.

Unfortunately all of the other reviews are meant for Tofukuji Temple and not this small private cemetery. This is a very quiet and well maintained cemetery that is on the grounds of an old manor that is now owned by the temple. For anyone who mistakingly enters the cemetery section, please remember to show respect by not taking any photos.

Nice little temple if you like moss, otherwise no real highlight here.

You can see the beautiful garden called Tsukirinden. It is located in the back of Tofuku-ji Temple and next to Ryugin-an. It is only open to the public during special exhibition periods.

(Translated by Google) It was the autumn leaves season, but the gates opened at 9:00, so I had to wait for about 30 minutes, so I gave up on visiting from the schedule for the day. Founded in 1387 as the family temple of the Satsuma-Shimazu family. (Original) 紅葉時期でしたが、9:00開門とのことで、30分くらいの待ちになりそうで、当日のスケジュールから拝観を断念。 1387年薩摩島津家の菩提寺として創設された
