Nothing much to see here. I think caves are redone with all ceiling and floor laid newly. But I believe the original caves are totally replaced as some underground tunnel. The entrance is quite small, and gets stuffy when multiple people are there. Can be missed. The statues of the deities is quite mesmerizing (specially the Kali Ma statue).

It is one of the famous caves located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Famous as it is linked with the name of king Vikramaditya. There are two underground caves. It is approximately at a distance of 6-8km from Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain. People with cardio respiratory problems kindly avoid going inside the caves as there is less oxygen level and may cause breathlessness. It also has a goshala where you can feed the cows and also take gomutra along with u.

A must visit to get feel of how and in what conditions our saints used to do meditation. I insist to go in all caves, no fear for claustrophobic beings like me. Sufficient space once you cross stairs. Because only then your visit is successful when you have seen the real caves. Well maintained not like dirty caves. Pujaris continue to do pooja inside caves and it is well covered with cctv

Like other spots of Ujjain, Bhartrihari caves also have a history linked with it. According to legends these caves, assigned to 11th century owe their name from Bhartrihari the step brother of King Vikaramaditya. It is said that when Bhartrihari decided to renounce the worldly life, he came here in search of a peace to continue his meditation. In due course of time these caves became his shelter whwre he spend considerable part of his life. Bhartrihari was a very learned man. He was a great scholar of his time. He also had a good depth and knowledge of poetry. Many of his great works are studied and researched by students and scholars even today. His contribution to the Sanskrit language is immense. Some of his great works like Shringarshatak, Vairagyashatak, and Nitishatak are considered as gems of Indian literature . It is generally believed that all these works were possibly written here only.

The caves have extremely narrow entrances, which can be very tricky to access. Supported by stone pillars, the cave has multiple rooms that house idols or images of Hindu deities. The stone-carved statue of rishi Bhartrihari in the sitting posture is very impressive. Also, one will get to see Mahadeva's trident and holy ash called Dhuni inside the caves. Besides, one can also find beautiful stone images carved on the walls of the caves.

There is a very good temple. The entire premises consist of multiple caves. Although entry is allowed in only 2 caves. Both caves are quite dark and well-built. The caves do need proper ventilation, when the crowd increases, it gets quite hot and feels a little bit suffocating also.

This cave located near the banks of River Kshipra, on the outskirts of the city, Bhartrihari Caves are a popular tourist stopover. Supported by stone pillars, the cave has multiple rooms that house idols or images of Hindu deities. There is also a small temple inside that is pegged as a holy shrine for devotees of the Nath community. Assigned to the 11th century AD, the caves are a testimony to the rich cultural heritage of Ujjain. Legend has it that the cave has been named after the stepbrother of King Vikramaditya, Bhartrihari, who meditated here for almost 12 years. Apparently, Bhartrihari was a poet and a great scholar, whose works include Nitishatak, Vairagyashatak and Shringarshatak. The caves have extremely narrow entrances, which can be very tricky to access. Every year, thousands of devotees come here to pay homage to the scholar; saints of the Nath community even pitch tents outside the caves and meditate.

Bhartrihari Caves are situated near GadKalika Matha temple, above the banks of Shipra River and is one of the major tourist attraction of Ujjain. These 11th century caves owe their name from Bhartrihari who is step brother of King Vikramaditya. History of the Caves: Bhartrihari born as a King, but still renounced his affluent lifestyle and adopted the grab of an ascetic. It is said that reason beyond that was his disturbing relation with his wife. The heartbreak led him to give up all his dreams and become a spiritualist. When Bhartrihari decided to renounce the worldly life, he came here in search of a peace to continue his meditation. In due course of time these Caves became his shelter where he spend considerable part of his life. Bhartrihari was a great scholar and renowned poet, known for his delicate use of Sanskrit in his verses. Some of his great works like Nitishatak, Shringarshatak and Vairagyashatak are considered as gems of Indian literature. It is believed that all these were written in this caves only. The interior of the cave is extremely cool, peaceful and spiritual. Narrow route inside the cave number 1 leads to the place where Bhartrihari meditated. The stone curved statue of Bhartrihari in the sitting position is arranged there for visiting purpose. There is also a small temple in Cave number 2 that is a holy shrine of the Nath community. Throughout your journey to Bhartrihari Caves you will have a feeling of travelling to a different era as you are moving inside deepest caves surrounding darkness. There is a large Pipal tree near the cave, it is believed that the holy tree lie above the Samadhi of Rishi Bhartrihari. Visitors generally take it leaf's with them and put in there Pooja room at home to ensure peace, prosperity and happiness in the family Timings: Morning 09:00 to Evening 05:00.

Good place, but it looks more historical site than a spiritual. The caves are really scary if you are claustrophobic and my strong advise is to avoid going down too far. Also none of the caves have any kind of crowd management and the entry exit points to the inner caves are so cramped, that one small incident can cause stampede like situation, specially since level of oxygen is too low in the lower most cave and a lot of humidity. So be careful and enjoy the beautiful scenery outside the temple near the river.

Named on King Bhartari......who did his tapsaya in those caves.... Very little and narrow space under.... Which is quite difficult for a ⚠️tall person 6ft and above... ⚠️ Under cave no 1 there is a cave which opens in all char dhams.... And it is also been mentioned in ancient scriptures of Mahabharat and puranas..... Same caves are also there at other places like Kasi....

This place is okay in terms of ambience and feel. Condition of the caves is not good (specially in summers season it becomes humid and hot from inside so you will suffocated). Most of the area is exposed to the sun directly so stone heats up and you cannot walk with bare foots on it so take socks 🧦 along with you in summer season.

Caves are too narrow. Not suggested for old people. They can spend time in the premises. Waterflow and the Gaushala feels like your hometown. If possible, plan to stay in the premises for an hour. You will have some positive vibes.

So good. When you go down inside caves there is boiling hotness. People with high blood pressure please don't go there. And anybody don't allow to rest or sit there for long. Because it cause difficulty in breathing.

This caves are situated near Gadhkalika temple. This is the 11th century caves. The entrance of caves are too small and if multiple people are inside then it’s suffocating. Just outside of this caves goshala is there.

This temple is nearer to Kshipra river and Gadhtalika mata temple. This temple is having two caves. The caves are a very beautiful example of Indian rock cut architecture. There are Hindu gods statues inside caves. At the entrance of cave tou can see a south Indian temple architecture which is having statues at all four sides. There is also a cow shed where you can feed cows.
