Strong AC and spacious exhibition hall filled with educational and fun activities make this the perfect place to bring your children, especially if you need help extinguish the summer heat wave. Parking is ample. Check online deal marketplace for cheap tickets (two adults for $5).

This post is not related to the experience at the museum which I’m sure is wonderful, it has to do with the poor communication of the current opening hours. Both on the website and on the phone it is clear that the museum should be open until 5pm. I arrived at 4:20pm on a Friday (today) for a quick visit with my young children. We were informed that the museum was closing due to required cleaning so that all staff could leave by 5pm. This was told to us as I said it was my daughter’s birthday and that we understood it was open until 5pm as communicated everywhere (my daughter then burst into tears). While the Covid cleaning requirements make complete sense, I would kindly request for the opening hours to be accurately reflected with a 4:15pm closure time; and a bit of compassion when parents arrive at the doors with their young children within apparent open hours.

Very nice place to get the kids out of the house. Went there 11 am in Sunday, there were only about 4 different families there. The kids got to take their time to look around, and were excited to see and learn about a lot of things. I love the tribute to the fallen 9/11 firefighters. Young kids will have a lot of fun there. I also like that they have hand sanitizer in every corners because kids touch everything. .

This museum isn't huge but it is packed with fascinating science and history! Kids and adults could easily spend 3 hours looking at the artifacts and learning about everything. Jim is an outstanding tour guide! The ticket is best $5-$10 I ever spent. Come in on a weekday afternoon and it is not crowded at all.

Nassau County Firefighters Museum is one of several small museums in "Museum Row," Uniondale, NY. The museum offers some very old fire engines, ladder trucks, and other apparatuses. There are some interactive exhibits that young and older folks would enjoy. There is also a portion of the museum that has a display with real bunker gear that firefighters wear during a fire call that folks can try on. There are small sizes that children can put on and look like a real firefighter. The museum, however, has portions that are quite dated and need some improvements. This museum is in need of our support. Please visit their website for ways to do so. There is nothing like this museum on the island that honors these brave men and women of the fire service.

Like most of the museums on Museum Row, this is is very small. The kids were entertained for a little less than an hour, but it was only $7 and kids under 2 are free. You get to see a bunch of the historical fire trucks and one newer one. Kids can also learn about fire safety. For $7, it's probably worth it. Just don't expect to be entertained for a long time.

Really neat place to bring my 5 year old son. This place has really cool fire trucks and memorabilia as well as an incredibly meaningful 9/11 memorial wall. The play place for kids is good for really young kids and even my almost 6 year old had a great time playing with the fire truck toys and checking out all the cool exhibits, as well as climbing in the old fire trucks. I would definitely come again.

This space is good to take younger kids(maybe up to 3rd grade). They have a play area where kids can pretend like they are fire fighters. And there is any area where kids can play with toy trucks if you have a toddler.

Intriguing, quiet and peaceful space for little toddlers. Cool to see older fire trucks and historical Long Island fire stations. A great little treat next to the aviation museum to check out and visit the gift store!

This is basically one room annex of the Aviation museum. Not really big enough to be its own museum, a little too big to be displayed in any one fire station. Seems like the exhibits have not been maintained since it was first installed. It is understandably geared towards children, but many of the exhibits were missing parts or not working. However, the old engines have been meticulously restored and probably get polished every week. They have an extensive and often random collections of fire station memorabilia, collected and donated by past fire chiefs. Great for fire station enthusiasts.

It’s a great place to visit if your kids/grandkids are fascinated with all things fire department. They get a couple of fire lessons throughout the museum, take pictures on fire trucks and get to wear firefighters gear. It can all be done in an hour or two. The 9-11 Memorial is really heartwarming. If you are done early. There are other small museums you can visit in the same building.

We visited the firefighter museum yesterday for a birthday party and didn't know what to expect -- it was fantastic!! There were kids of all ages and each one was having a blast, especially our daughter who loved meeting real life firefighters and "driving" their firetrucks. The party itself was well organized and in such a cute room that was enclosed enough to have a separate space but open enough to let kids roam if they wanted to play. It was a lot of fun! After pizza and birthday cake, we all went in various directions to tour the museum. The firefighters were very kind and patient with all of the kids running around, offering to take photos for us and teach us all about fire safety and the equipment, and they were super knowledgeable which made it fun for everyone (parents too!). This museum was great even if you don't have kids with you and is right next to a bunch of other museums too. We can't wait to go back when we have some more time. Make sure to get a badge for your junior firefighters!

It is very clean, there is a special play area for children, a good place to increase knowledge. It is very suitable for a family to come together, the parking is very convenient, the adult ticket is $7, and there are two museums next to it. It is worth coming again, the history of firefighting is presented here, which is very meaningful.

What a great museum for children under under 8 or 9 (my opinion.) Lots of firetruck for children to play with. Reading materials for fire safety. Not to mention the admission price was $4.00 for children and $5.00 for adults! What a great steal!

What a fun musuem. It is part of musuem row and very much worth a stop. Free for active duty military. Lovely memorabilia and a few firetrucks kids can climb in. Large area for kids to play dress up, play with firetruck toys, pretend to put out fires and learn fire safety and tips. So cute for the kids. Nice little gift shop and kind and helpful docents running the small musuem.

The place is small enough for the attention span of a 2 and 4 year old. A better idea would be to go here and the Cradle of Aviation Museum right next door.

  • 2/5 Amused M. 1 year ago on Google
It is good as a stop not as a destination. When we took our kids multiple "exhibits"were closed and some weren't working so idk how exciting it is usually.

Went with 4 yr old twin boys. They enjoyed their visit, especially going on some fire trucks and wearing Jr. Firefighters helmets and jackets (which have to be returned at the end if the visit).

It’s not only fun, but it’s also full of educational learning! It’s cute that it has firefighter cloths and helmets for all sizes for people to dress up to have a feel of it! It also has simulation experience for kids to learn the fire safety through out play! There is also section for grownups to see all kinds of firefighter vehicles from all ages to shown the history of it. One thing I like the most is the 9-11 memorial for us to remember the firefighters who has had sacrifice their life to save other during the 9-11.

Very small area. They have a bunch of old firetrucks, some the kids can climb into. Kids can play dress up and a puzzle area. Dont expect to spend more than an hour max at this place. Then again the admission rate is $4, so you get what you pay for

  • 5/5 Dawn B. 5 years ago on Google

The caterer harassed me and was belligerent . The museum part was very nice but the cafe manager would not leave me alone coming over with complaints over 5 times in the span of an hour. I complied with all of this man's requests and he was still rude to me and kept giving me a hard time. I don't recommended using this caterer or the cafe here. I recommend staying briefly enough that you don't have to interact in any way with the cafe people. Save yourself the stress and embarrassment.
