The best Asian and vegan restaurant in Edinburgh that I have been to so far. You would experience the authentic Malaysian taste from dishes made in an unexpected way. The Laksa noodle soup and Rendang sauce were some of the best I have ever had. They are both highly flavourful with distinctive taste of coconut and spices, and in great texture. Quite a lot of the dishes were made with tofu or mushrooms, and the way they were prepared was equally amazing - you would be impressed by how diversified these two ingredients could be transformed through different cooking methods - to become a quality wonton filling, char siu or deep fried fillet. Besides, I loved the starter of salt and pepper lotus which was very crispy and appetizing. Friendly and welcoming staff as well. Highly recommended.

Fill your face with a big bowl of Soul … I’ve lived in Malaysia with locals for several months and this is as authentic in style and flavour as you’ll get anywhere. Posher … but very much the same. Menu. It has a small but great selection of authentic cuisine including the famous Rendang and a Specials board too. We shared 3 dishes. Starter, Noodle and Main … Starter - Salt and Pepper Lotus £6.50. Light crispy fried but not greasy sliced lotus root crisps one a bed of warm pepper and red onion salad. Lovely on the own with damn good flavour, but really elevated when dipped in the Laksa …. Noodle - Laksa £11.50. A huge bowl of noodle soup made to absolute perfection. Being Malaysian it’s not hot spicy, but instead it has a depth of complexity, richness and smoothness you don’t find in other eastern noodle soups. It’s distinctive Malay taste stands out flavouring the noodles, vegetables wantons (what a treat getting these in it) and seitan. It’d be unfair not to comment on this - best seitan I’ve had in a noodle soup yet - honest. Main - Soul’s Special Deep Fried Tufu £11.90. Tofu which has been mixed with eastern veggies then reconstituted into logs before being crisped up and served with a delicious glutinous gravy, tender stem broccoli and a garnish. I adored it. Crispy, tasty and like I’d never had before. The place is chilled, nice music in the background, informative and tentative waitress, a great experience. Would I go back? Yes and I’ll be booking in advance. Would I recommend? Yes. It authentic, imaginative, well cooked Malaysian food. #Veganuary

5star plus. Excellent food, friendly attentive and helpful staff. Quick service. No one eating here could possibly think vegan food is bland. Reasonable choice of different flavours. Good size portions. Really recommend it but book as it's popular.

"Welcome to Vegan Paradise" states a neon sign as you enter, without exclamation. They're not kidding. Soul Vegan really does deliver the goods with excellent Vegan Malaysian dishes, including a very tasty Rendang I had during my visit. Everyone in there seemed to be regulars and loving the food and friendly service. I'll certainly be back, and for visitors, it's a worthwhile 15min walk from Waverley Station.

Really lovely Malaysian vegan food with friendly and helpful staff. All the food looked and tasted amazing. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for vegan Malaysian food. Not too spicy, just right. We’ll be back to try the sweet potato fritters with ice cream!

Everything was sooooo good! If We didn't stay nearby I wouldn't have found this place What a hidden gem. I'm also thankful that we could do takeaway because this place is small and was pretty packed when I stopped by for dinner around 7pm. I ordered the laksa noodles, friend rice, and fried wontons. Only the noodle soup is mildly spicy but tolerable to me who normally don't eat spicy food. They take credit card also which is great. Everyone is so nice there. Takeaway wait time for 3 dishes was 15 mins. Pretty good 👍

The laksa was amazing! I enjoyed the food and it reminds me of home. The gyoza was meh but everything was perfect👌 they even adjusted the spice level of the laksa too which was perfect. The dessert was also fab! It can be a weebit crowded though if they're fully booked so it can get loud but the food makes up for it🫣

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. The food was absolutely amazing and such big portions! So good to get somewhere that’s fully vegan. Plenty of different options to choose from and everything we tried was divine. Great service from the staff. Be aware that it’s a very small restaurant that gets busy - definitely worth booking a table!

LOVED the food! As a non-vegan myself, I thought the meat replacement options they had were absolutely amazing, I don't think I ever had any meat substitute that felt this 'meaty'. The portions were big and everything was super tasty. The Laksa was absolutely amazing. Would definitely recommend coming here!

An amazing restaurant in Edinburgh- went there two nights in a row. The laksa noodles, pineapple fried rice, green curry, mapo tofu were our favourites. Even my wife who’s not vegan loved the options. Reasonable prices, very friendly service, and quick service. Place closes at 9:30pm so make sure to book and arrive accordingly. Portion sizes are generous and 2 starters plus 2 mains were more than enough for a ravenous party of 3.

I tried this Vegan Malaysian restaurant for the first time as I heard many good reviews. Honestly I’m not a big fan of vegan food Gan Lau mee and pineapple fried rice taste alright it would be perfect if it has the basic condiments to add such as sugar , chill flakes or vinegar ( A must for Thai people) The star of this restaurant is the tofu (Satay tofu or deep fried) the texture is so crispy and flavorful in itself and sauce add another layer. All my Thai friends unanimously say it’s a wow factor for this restaurant. Please try this tofu master restaurant in Richmond street near University of Edinburgh.

Absolutely phenomenal. Even non vegans will absolutely love this place. Superb food, great friendly service and a good atmosphere. The food is stand out. The best Satay we've ever had. If you're in Edinburgh and looking for a great value place to eat put Vegan Soul on your list.

If you're looking for a delicious vegan dinner in Edinburgh, don't go anywhere else! This is the place. Order the Laksa and drift off into a food-coma. So, so good!

I had meals here a few times. The food is as fantastic as usual. The service was good. The staffs are friendly, polite and take care of the customers always. I highly recommend the starters. I've tried many of them but didn't try the deep fired cabbage ball because I'm not fond of cabbage. All the starters I've tried were so impressive. I like the Laksa noodle and pineapple fried rice a lot as well. If you like spicy food, creamy and coconut milk, try the Laksa noodle . Also, the desserts were very nice. I don't see taro pancakes/ sweet potato balls with ice cream in another place.

Best vegan food I have ever tasted. Everything was delicious, well balanced and tasty. One dish almost made me cry because of how good it was. If you’re going for a marvellous culinary experience in Edinburgh, this is the place to go. The only negative is that they’re closed on Mondays, otherwise I would have come and eat there today as well. Absolutely spectacular food, do not miss!

This is the third time I visited Soul and I brought along my sister this time. They never disappoint! My favourite is the salt & pepper lotus for starter. We also tried the special starter which was the corn 🌽! That was surprisingly good! (Too excited and forgot to take photos of starters! 😂)For main, I went for the noodle with wonton , again, amazing! My sis had the yam and she loved it! And to finish off, the ice cream is a must have for me every time! 😊

Highly recommend - one of the best meals we've had! We had to come here twice during our short Edinburgh visit. I recommend booking a table for dinner service. The restaurant was packed in the evening. During lunch time it was less busy and we could easily get a table. The food was absolutely stunning and worth the price - beautiful presentation, beautiful flavours and textures! The service was very friendly as well. While all the dishes were fantastic, our favourites were Satay Tofu, Nasi Lemak, Rendang Lions Mane Mushroom, and Corn Ribs with Guinness Sauce. We will definitely visit again whenever we are back in town!

You need to believe the reviews! Soul is incredible. The staff are amazing, the place is modern, yet classy, the atmosphere is perfect and the food... well, the food is like a gorgeous, happy hug of fresh, exciting flavours, warm comfort and perfect texture. We now have a place where we want to eat the whole menu! My wife eats meat (I know, what can I say lol) but she said this was the best eating out experience she has had in a very long time. Our Edinburgh vegan journey has begun and what a place to start (and visit again and again!) Ps don't leave until you try the ice cream. OMG! We had crispy banoffee fritters with chocolate ice cream. It was incredible. Two words for you: Just go. To everyone at Soul: thank you! We will be back xx

My friends and I tried Soul out one day whilst at the Fringe - what a great find! The menu had a great range of options and everything we tried was really delicious. Service was great too: friendly and fast. Highly recommend!

The first thought I had when I came across this restaurant why make malaysian food vegan. But after trying it, i thoight 'why not?!' Soul's special deep fried tofu - deceivingly simple dish but the tofu was flavourful and had a slightly creamy texture on the inside. Very much unlike the tofu you get from grocery stores Acar (mixed pickled vegetables) - liked that the veg retained a crunch. Good balance of spicy, sweet and sour. Kolo mee - this was probably the least favorable dish. Did not taste like the ones back in Malaysia. Perhaps it was the choice of noodles used. Mushroom rendang - personally, I'm not sure if mushroom is the best for rendang as it doesn't absorb the spices as well as meat would. It was a tasty dish no doubt, just not something that would remind me of rendang Vegan laksa - this is the star of the restaurant. Thicky creamy well spiced curry broth with cripsy wontons and sweet 'char siu'. What a comforting dish. Even better than some curry laksas I've had in Malaysia!

It was hard to choose what to order because there were so many good options, but I really don't think we could've gone wrong. I got the tofu satay and the laska with rice noodles. So tasty! There were so many different components and flavours in the laska. While we did find a table by walking in, I'd recommend making a reservation if you're able to because it's a small space.

👍👍 It's busy, it's tasty and always a nice experience! There is a nice range of flavours infused with spices. We went for breakfast and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The naan breads with sausages, bacon and eggs were delicious. The only comment I would have is it's so busy and noisy insid...
