We must have hit a bad day as, contrary to many glowing reviews, the whole experience was at times disappointing and in the end awful. The worst aspect was the poor service and lack of attentiveness. We ordered saying that we had an hour and fifteen minutes to eat as we had a theatre performance starting at 7pm. We asked for vegetables to replace the potatoes with the chicken schnitzel. The service was slow and when the food arrived, the waiter had forgotten to replace the potatoes. The chicken schnitzel was tasty but the vegetables did not arrive till the chicken was finished. My ragout was not a ragout - just large cubes of beef, dry with no sauce or flavouring together with spätzle. Most disappointing. The waiter did apologise for forgetting. There was no sense of urgency to bring the food within our time frame. In order to save time, I asked for a dessert - a Sachertorte. The waiter said it was not available but was the same as a Black Forest gateau. It is not! So I asked for an apple strudel instead at the same time as paying for the bill. At 6.45 I went to the kitchen and said I would take the strudel with me. Another seven minutes before I was handed a pack. So I had a pack of melting ice cream on top of a strudel slice waiting for the first interval. I wished the experience had been a whole lot better but the inexperienced staff and the food service left me feeling that I would not recommend the place nor visit again.

Great food. Particularly the goulash. The veal schnitzel, however, was rather overpriced (£19)- and doesn’t even include a side salad. For dessert, I had the Black Forest gateau, which was also tasty. My real issue was the service. Felt like the person serving us really doesn’t care about his job. Probably gets paid peanuts? In that case I can sort of understand… but it won’t make me go back.

This place has real German food and beer. There are other German places in London where you get German dishes but not the actual food. You can get real ones here, also for a very reasonable price. Service was really good. The staff provided some generous portions of tasters for some beers that we were trying to choose from. They also have an amazing terrace through the back door that overlooks the garden behind. Amazing spot for a chill under the sun.

Let's start off by saying the food and the beer are incredible, cannot fault at all. The staff were very helpful and attentive and never too far away so we could always get a hold of someone when we needed something. The atmosphere though... it's a bit odd... Now I get it's Kensington so the restaurant is always going to have that going against it but when I think of a traditional Bavarian restaurant, I think of good German music, loud jovial patrons and staff and the clinking of beer glasses, instead this place offers a more clinical almost teetering on fine dining experience with loud generic modern music on what felt like a loop; an approach which was at such a juxtaposition to the waitress in lederhosen and the amazing food. Id recommend going but don't expect to get swept up in a Bavarian beer experience as this just isn't that.

I would say it’s my favourite restaurant in London. I am a regular at here and can always have a good time. The German-speaking gentleman who served me this time is the same person as previously when I had l drinks here and is welcoming and friendly as last time. If you enjoy authentic German food, elegant environment and want them with a reasonable price, then no doubt this is the place for you.

Simple German food, the duck from the special menu is great, small portion plate and expensive. not too much choice for dessert. Sorry but slow service

First impressions, reasonably priced German fare, cooler inside than on the terrace on a hot day. This is the best Stein's I have visited the herring was particularly tasty and their Weiss beer refreshing.

Excellent experience at Steins! Very delicious food and drinks and highly recommend. It felt like we were on holiday. The vibe is cosy and relaxed with a minimalist ‘ski chalet’ decor. I enjoyed a delicious German organic Riesling (Burg Ravensburg Riesling, Baden), and my partner had a range of draught German beers (Dunkel, Weisser Hirsch, & Adlerkönig). We ordered the Bratwurst with sauerkraut, the duck confit, and the roast butternut squash and beetroot salad. The menu is excellent and we’ll have to return for the fondue and sharing platters! For starters we had a bowl of olives, cornichons and pickled onions (though it was mostly olives with a few cornichons and no onions), and a bread basket with warm rolls and a pretzel and packets of butter. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant felt clean. Food came at slightly odd times but only because the mains were very quick to cook. We did order the Sachertorte for pudding, but it never arrived. Despite that, we had a lovely evening and the food was very delicious and well presented.

We were greeted, seated and looked after very nicely by two gentlemen. Online reservations and menu is accessible online, but only when you log in (wonder why is that), which caused a bit of fiddling, but otherwise - can't fault the whole experience. Sharing platter seems to be the best value for money and perfect before concert. Be aware though - 12,5% service charge is automatically included in the bill. Had a lovely experience, so not a negative per say, but still- would prefer to be given an opportunity to choose.

A bierkeller in a nice setting? Not particularly overwhelmed by the experience. Can't really get bratwurst and pretzels wrong. The location and style called for an alternative take. There seemed to be a lot of technology induced miscommunication going on as well with a couple of people coming to the bar to order because they hadn't been seen to. It was fine, hence the 3.

Good food, fairly fast service, not a bad ambience despite not looking at all like a restaurant from the outside and the somewhat uncomfortable seats including some benches. Prices probably averagey for London, though main courses are probably better value than the sides some of which seemed to be surprisingly small. Let's not call the menu limited; let's say it's specialised. I'd go there again.

A surprisingly sophisticated and pleasing upgrade to the rustic Richmond favourite. Located over the road from Imperial College London. Shared tables remain, with a food and wine menu that is blissful, and a continental cafe ambiance. We had the sharing platter for two, and it was perfect if not ever so slightly extra. The beer is fresh and fantastic. I wasn't sure how Steins was going to translate to the city. They've done a great job, and I look forward to going back. 👏 Service was friendly and efficient. Thank you guys.

After I visited Natural History Museum, I was so starving. Then, I decided to visit here because it was so close from the museum and I wanted to eat german foods. It was so nice! The staffs were so kind and the foods were amazing! I would like to visit here again and try other foods!! Schnitzel was very delicious, also apple strudel Thank you very much.

We came here for coffee and cake, and weren't disappointed. The Black Forest Gateaux was light, creamy and delicious, and the Sachertorte was dense and chocolaty. I had the mint tea, which was refreshing, and very minty - much better than some I have had elsewhere. Will definitely be back to try some of the main courses.

Delicious beer with a wide range of selections that you cannot get in normal bars. Different to standard pubs, this place has a more sophisticated vibe and a more classic feel. I had a couple of steins beer there and I really liked the drinks. Food are enjoyable, quality and price are decent. Good selections for different taste. This is a place I will return again.
