Coach
Kai!
Looking
back
on
2021,
one
of
my
most
cherished
connections
was
the
one
I
had
training
with
Kai.
I
knew
of
him
through
the
running
community
here
in
New
York,
and
first
reached
out
to
him
in
April
about
his
Running
Form
Program
since
I
wasn't
the
biggest
fan
of
my
own
form
at
the
time.
During
our
sessions,
Kai
was
attentive
and
honestly,
really
knew
what
he
was
talking
about!
His
understanding
of
body
mechanics
was
on
point
and
the
knowledge
he
was
able
to
provide
to
improve
my
form
is
still
something
I
think
about
to
this
day.
(If
you
choose
to
do
this
program,
you'll
learn
that
changing
your
running
form
is
not
an
overnight
process!
Kai
will
definitely
emphasize
this
but
his
patience
for
ensuring
you
understand
where
to
adjust
is
great).
Then
in
June,
I
heard
Kai
speak
at
a
Global
Running
Day
event
and
that's
when
I
really
felt
drawn
to
talk
to
him
about
being
my
marathon
coach.
He
described
his
passion
for
running
and
how
he
wanted
to
unveil
the
true
potential
within
the
athletes
who
he
trained.
He
shared
that
this
was
where
his
legacy
was
headed
and
he
was
really
big
on
this
idea
that
despite
events
having
been
canceled
due
to
the
pandemic,
goals
should
not
have
to
do
the
same.
That
stuck
with
me.
After
trusting
this
man's
perspective
on
form
and
being
intrigued
by
his
approach
to
goal
setting,
I
looked
into
his
marathon
training
options.
I
was
signed
up
for
two
fall
marathons-
New
York
and
Berlin.
Berlin
would
be
a
new
race
for
me
and
NY
was
one
I
was
familiar
with.
I
wanted
to
PR,
ideally
in
Berlin,
and
had
a
sub-4
time
in
my
dreams.
So
I
said
to
myself,
I
think
Kai
can
help
me
get
to
where
I
need
to
be.
Kai
provided
a
structured
and
thoughtful
program
in
the
months
that
followed.
I
really
loved
that
he
used
TrainingPeaks
to
plan
my
workouts--
it's
a
platform
where
you're
able
to
view
your
training
schedule
and
also
upload
your
performance
of
each
run.
It
allowed
us
to
measure
my
progress
together
during
our
bi-weekly
videochats
as
I
described
how
my
body
felt
as
mileage
increased
over
time
and
my
pacing
strategy
was
solidified.
I
had
told
Kai
that
I
wanted
to
continue
going
to
runs
with
different
run
crews
that
I
belonged
to
and
he
was
extremely
understanding
of
what
those
runs
meant
to
me
and
how
we
could
bake
them
into
my
regimen.
Kai
threw
some
challenges
into
my
training
as
well
to
gauge
my
fitness
progression
and
to
really
believe
in
myself
more.
Kai
always
kept
my
goals
top
of
mind.
In
times
when
I
doubted
myself,
his
workouts
gave
me
opportunities
to
test
myself
and
proved
that
I
could
do
hard
things.
So
what
were
the
end
results?
-
I
PR'd
by
25
minutes
in
Berlin!
I
was
only
a
few
minutes
shy
from
breaking
4
hours.
-
I
had
SUCH
an
awesome
time
doing
the
NY
marathon
again.
I
felt
strong
(keep
in
mind
I
had
just
run
the
Berlin
marathon
6
weeks
prior)
and
had
a
smile
on
my
face
pretty
much
the
entire
time.
-
I
finished
strong
at
both
races,
injury-free.
-
I
learned
the
value
of
commitment
and
consistency.
Coach
Kai
couldn't
do
all
of
the
work
for
me.
I
had
to
be
willing
to
push
through
and
show
up
for
myself.
I
hope
all
of
this
encourages
you
to
make
Kai
your
next
coach!!
He's
determined
for
greatness
and
wants
you
to
be
a
part
of
the
ride.
