Went here to grab a drink and visit a place my clients had hyped up. But I was severely disappointed. Overall the aesthetic was cool. I even liked the really narrow alleyway (that only one person can fit down at a time) to get to it. But once we entered we found out the second floor wasn't even opened. And as I was taking a picture of my best friend on a throne they have in the back the bouncer/security approached me and said we couldn't take any pictures. Why would you even bother putting a throne in a place you don't want pictures taken at? Nothing inappropriate was being shown in that area, my flash was not on or anything. It felt very rude. This was within 3 minutes of us arriving. Plus the walk way directly around the bar is barely wider than the alleyway to enter and as we were going in we had a couple leaving and complaining about the same things I'm mentioning now. After we were approached I was no longer in the mood to stay crammed in this small box of a bar and buy drinks when I was clearly not welcome to take pictures to commemorate the memory/experience. So we left. I won't be visiting there again.

Dark & mysterious… so, heads up, you are not allowed to take pictures inside… I see there are pics, so that might be new. It is a great tucked away divey, late night bar for when all others are closed. It is definitely a dungeon vibe with loud music and big speakers in the second floor. The bartender we met was very friendly.

This place was great! Negative reviews from people who can’t follow the only rule the bouncer gives you when you walk in- no photos. Music was great, bar aesthetic was a ton of fun. There’s an upstairs and a downstairs! Bartender was really awesome, full of attitude (in a fun, f*ck your feelings kind of way) and it was a nice change of pace from everything else nearby. We’ll be back!

This was my first real themed bar I had drinks at :) I've been very adamant by choice about finding the "perfect" spot to call my first themed bar since I've been more into drinks at parties, hotels, home or dining at a restaurant. This was a fabulous and memorable place. One of my favorite establishments in New Orleans. I recommend the Key to the Chastity belt drink- very citrus flavored and pleasant. Dragon's blood is good if you like black licorice. Pictures are not allowed inside (outside - yes. Signage on the door downstairs clearly states no video of photos inside) but they thought I was clever for making my own pictures by sketching their dragon head on the wall. Alan and Mike were fun staff and we had decent conversations to liven my experience. I appreciated the friendliness and interactivity. Out of the other bars we tried, this one was the most conversational and hygenic. Excellent taste and choice in music- I heard some Black Sabbath when I wasn't talking or focused on my drawing. I Got a sticker as an extra memory. Husband got an Entry doubloon token. We went around 7 right when they opened. Apparently they have other floors to go to but I think they opened them later on. The building is over 200 years old and the bartender Alan had cool stories to share. I will say, I'm not claustrophobic but the floor we were on (street entry) was a small tight space. I loved the theme, aesthetics and decorations. I strongly appreciate Mike wiping the tables down constantly. He was a very attentive bouncer and recommended some good eating spots. They have an Oscar fish too inside that I sat close to :) I'm coming back in the further future - keep my seat ready.

Great atmosphere and music. The first bouncer that was there was nice enough, but the other dude that showed up was super rude. I was looking for my vaccine card to go in and my friend brought me out a drink. They wouldn't let him back in because his wife had his vaccine card. I had to find her and she sent him a picture of it.

I visited on Sunday night so it wasn't too busy, but I'm really glad my friend told me about this place. 2 floors were closed when I arrived. It was really fun walking around the bar. Sarah B (my bartender) was really fun. She introduced me to their house hot sauce. Looking to go back on Thursday.

For a place that says no photos inside there sure are a lot on here lol. Really cool place if you like rock. It’s different and a must to check out. Kind of easy to miss so go find it. No pictures now!

Eerie, dark literal hole in the wall bar (You have to look for the sign hanging above as the alley is easy to miss) that is pretty intriguing. The server was nice & the drinks were really well made. There's a jukebox you can play & it's like being inside a Halloween store with all the skull decor. The bouncer at the door says no pictures or videos & it's pretty well enforced. A great place to sit & have a drink.

Great experience! Wonderful staff! We went 2 nights in a row cause we couldn't get enough. The decor was super cool and creepy. It's like walking into a secret ally way and finding an awesome Gothic occult style world on the other side. The place was a bit small but that made it feel more close knit and cozy compared to the general feel of bourbon street. Great drinks and service. Loved the music and general vibe. Kyle the bouncer was amazing! Super fun and friendly. He was really great at maintaining the safety and general good vibes for everyone. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend a visit!

Awesome little Goth bar in the French Quarter! The venue is small but very well decorated and the bartenders were friendly and sexy! The atmosphere is provided by the customers by means of a jukebox! Which meant we got to choose the music which was appreciated by everyone! When I was fone with my selections other patrons were asking me to choose more selections. They had over 5o bands and more then 300 songs to choose from. Great selections and variety make it easy to find something for your tastes! The beers here were affordable and it really is worth checking out. Really enjoyed the place and people. While were there there wasnt a wait to get in which was also nice! Spent a decent amount of time here with a new friend from Spain made earlier in the evening. Who also seemed to enjoy themselves as well! This is one of several dark options when trying to enjoy the night!

Okay so this place was a little out of my comfort zone BUT 5 stars for the environment and how committed the staff is to the creepy gothic vibe! Strict “no photo” policy but prior to knowing I got this photo. Entry to the bar is a very slim ally way pictured. Pretty cool.

Loved this bar so much that I visited twice on my trip to New Orleans. I love a good themed bar. The music selection on the jukebox is pretty perfect.

Very groovy. Red lighting, dark furniture, and rock tunes throughout cast a moody vampy vibe. The dark art haunting the halls is an especially creative touch. Service was quick and the spicy margarita is mmmmm. Good times, guys.

It is definitely an experience that you shouldn't pass up. I went on a Friday night and the only complaint I have is the music was SOOOOO loud. I mean, I'm not a fan of metal but I knew what I was getting into. But still, it was really loud. Other than that, though, it was incredible. The decor, lighting, drinks... It's an amazing vibe that is incredibly unique. Absolutely check it out.

"We don't have simple syrup, this is a dive bar, honey" I was asked if I wanted to go to a "goth bar" and I was taken to a spirit Halloween store with minimal goth pin ups. This might be cool for someone who lives in the middle of nowhere American and had never been to a city but it is horrible wanna be dive bar right off bourbon st. They tell you to not take photos and videos probably too not show how damn kichy this place is. Save your save your time, money, and self worth and just avoid this place entirely.

Different!! You enter by walking through a tiny dark corridor between these 2 buildings....you're then met with a bouncer who tells you "NO PHOTOS inside!!" Once inside....all black and dark, skeletons, heavy metal music and narrow hallways and staircases....like a maze. I enjoyed my time here....staff courteous and drinks were good and priced nice. Cheers!!

The vibes are immaculate! The cocktails were delicious and I included one side of the menu. The staff are kind and a tarot reader on site. Also a kitty on-site! <333

Great drinks and friendly staff. My husband and I make a point to visit here every time we’re in New Orleans. Great rock music and chill vibes. Don’t take pictures but go for the experience. On a side note, it smells like the cleanest bar in the quarter.

The bar is gothic decor but the music is 80s metal. Cool little change to the other bars. But don't take pics inside the bar or they will yell at you!

The best place to get a drink by far off Bourbon street, tucked into a dark alley. Great atmosphere, and great vibe. Not obnoxiously loud but not library quiet either perfect song selection for the atmosphere. If you're looking for a little bit of a darker side to your trip definitely give it a try. Julia and Molly were awesome!!. Don't let the walk down the dark alley dissuade you. Try the Wiches Brew!!

In 1976, the bar was decorated with 1960's psychedelic art. To go upstairs, you climbed a ladder not set of stairs. I still have my membership card. 😎

It looked cool, and its small, but the bartender was grumpy. Im sure they get sick of tourists, but we're good tippers and easy. Marred our experience after getting friendly, great service literally everywhere in NOLA. Maybe the scowling is part of the kitsch. Patrons were varied and nice. Good convos.

  • 5/5 Christina K. 9 months ago on Google
We were told by other people in NOLA that this was NOT the place to go. We saw it from across the street and just had to check it out. The vibe was really cool there, met a few other couples and had nice conversation and good drinks. The jukebox had some BANGERS on it if you like 90’s music, lol. Heard after hours the upstairs is a wild place to be, we didn’t check that part out but we certainly did enjoy our time at the downstairs bar. I do recommend this place, we had a lot of fun here.

Best bar we visited in New Orleans, hands down. I see many reviews about getting 'yelled at' for taking pictures or the narrow alley way. Well...the sign posted at the door very clearly says no pictures. It's not dimly lit or hidden or not easy to see. Don't like it, don't go in. And you can very clearly see the alley you need to walk down before you decide to walk down it. Don't like it, don't go in. But IT'S WORTH IT! Awesome atmosphere, music, drinks and service. We will definitely be back! (P.S. Get The Key. YUM!)

We stopped in early evening to have a drink and check this place out as recommended as a must see bar. It's very interesting, No photos allowed inside.

Cool metal Bar, the female bartender was a little ornery until my wife and I warmed her up with our charm. She probably thought we were a couple of yuppies lol. It definitely added to the experience and atmosphere of the bar. If your a sensitive person I don’t recommend going to this bar though.

  • 5/5 Conner V. 8 months ago on Google
Alright this place was cool. Awesome, dark bar with black lights and skulls. A CD jukebox full of anything from Lou Reed to Rob Zombie. I mean just pretty damn cool, what more do you want? If you have good tastes, then come here.

  • 4/5 Sidney T. 8 months ago on Google
It's a really small bar but the decor is amazing. We headed this way on Bourbon St because someone told us they played metal music. My friend was excited but, when we walked in the music was a different genre and that's okay. There wasn't a whole lot of room for our group so we left pretty quickly.

  • 4/5 Heather C. 6 months ago on Google
Cool hidden away bar and dungeon. Went on a Tuesday night, but there are only active scenes Thursday-Sunday, so we missed out on that. But the staff was super great and helpful! No Photos or Videos inside, which is good. The music was really loud but there was a lot of drunk white men choosing the music. Hope to go back on a different night to see how it is.

I stumbled upon this hidden gem right off Bourbon Street, and it's a true find! The bar offers budget-friendly drinks without compromising on quality. The service is exceptional, creating a welcoming atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for those seeking an affordable yet enjoyable experience in the heart of the action. Cheers to this fantastic discovery!

The spot and the bar was great but The Bartender the one that Had shaved down Teeth she might as well have had Shaved down Brain. I'm not even joking for the 3 hours that we were there She only served one Drink, Finally before we left We ordered 3 waters, but instead she brought us 3 vodka sodas, When we told her that was wrong She decided to kick us out. The thing I don't drink. I wasn't drunk. So I know what I ordered. The rest of the crew was great no complaints there.

What a fantastic place! I was only in New Orleans for our brief afternoon, but I am so thankful that a friend suggested we stop in here. The atmosphere PERFECT for me and the bartender Bex was lovely and fun and attentive. I really enjoyed my time here and can't wait to visit again next time I'm in town! Plus the music was AWESOME! No top 40 BS at this place. Absolutely A+

My husband tried to come here in October, he was with three other guys on a bachelor trip. They were denied access after being sized up through the hole in the door. Someone simply responded “No.” and the shut the slider on the view hole. So, my husband and I came to NOLA as a family trip and my husband said he wanted to go and try again, thinking that it’s something special. We were let right in after having to show ID, no problem there. But, like others seem to have stated, it’s a little disappointing. It’s VERY small, you can’t take pictures, not much to take pictures of anyway. Cramped and the only seating is the barstools at the tiny bar. The jukebox is cool, but no where to sit and chill. We stayed for a drink and left. I will say it seems like the bartender everyone was complaining about was either replaced or we caught them on a good day because the people were cordial and not rude like previously experienced.

This is always a favorite of mine. Small bar with upstairs dance floor, bar, and downstairs bar and juke box. I've never had a bad experience here. I always meet wonderful friendly clientele and the bartenders are lovely, kind, understanding... (I'm not much of a mixed drink girl so I'm one of those dreaded "what would you recommend?" Customers... They never look angry or frustrated at me and always make good recommendations.) If you're alternative and want to feel the acceptance you probably never did growing up... This is the place for you! Thanks for always putting up with me!

First time at The Dungeon and it's added to our New Orleans bar crawl list! The place is a little tricky to find, you have to go down blue lit alleyway which added to the overall vibe! Inside, it's small and dark with loud music. There is limited seating just around the bar and the decor is kinky and super interesting to look at while enjoying a beverage or two. The service is great and the cocktails were tasty. Unfortunately you can't take pictures inside but we definitely recommend this place!

Best metal bar in NOLA. If you like rock and roll, a good beer, and a dungeon atmosphere, you should check it out. They have different ambients, in a two floors building with 3 bars (that I can remember). Each bar has a different selection of drinks and sinister decorations. It's something completely unique. Totally recommended.

  • 4/5 Brett G. 1 year ago on Google
Fun themed bar playing leaning into metal and occult vibes. The bar tender was quick and nice but there is very limited seating in the downstairs area. They do open up more of the bar but only on the back half of the week. Highly recommend coming here for a visit and experience the atmosphere

Really cool bar to hang out with a friend. I've heard this called a vampire bar, and there are plenty of people hanging out who make you wonder if they might be real. Cool atmosphere, heavy dark music, friendly staff. Great place for a date.

  • 4/5 Chase S. 2 years ago on Google
This place has a great location, but it's easy to miss. The entrance is a black medieval looking door that leads down a narrow alley into a small courtyard and the bar. The interior is decorated on a sort of gothic metal fashion. I'm only giving it 4 stars because they don't allow pictures or videos inside. I'm not sure why they are so adamant about not allowing photography (it's not like gothic bars are some new concept that can be stolen); seems like it would help bring business in if people could see some pics of the cool decor, in my opinion, but whatever. They have some unique slushie drinks, but otherwise it seems to be a pretty standard selection. They open kind of late, but it's worth dropping in if you're in the area.

  • 5/5 Daniel J. 2 years ago on Google
Great little spot if you're into the heavy metal/classic rock aesthetic. Very limited space, but the intimacy is part of the appeal. (Don't get the house cocktail if you don't like super sweet drinks though.)

  • 5/5 Jenni C. 2 years ago on Google
The Dungeon is my absolute favorite bar in the country. The door guy can come off obnoxious at first but he is actually pretty chill when you get to know him. If you like rock, metal and industrial this is the place for you. The alcove outside the bar has this calming vibe that is a nice break away from the rest of New Orleans. Lauren is my favorite bartender there she has an amazing personality even when she's slammed busy.

  • 5/5 Rusti B. 2 years ago on Google
Loved the atmosphere, the decor and the drinks of course! Key to the Chastity Belt was awesome! Best part of my trip to New Orleans

  • 5/5 Lexy B. 2 years ago on Google
We weren’t sure what to expect but this place was so unique and awesome I would definitely come back. They are extremely strict about no pictures because they allow women to be topless (with pasties) if they want to. I personally loved that about the place and wasn’t made to feel uncomfortable because of how strict the bouncers are about no pictures and how friendly the staff is. The music was on point and Sarah was an amazing bartender. Can’t wait to return.
