They’ve got to do something about all the graffiti on the outside of the awning 😔 I thought the establishment was closed! That aside. This is a nice neighborhood spot for noodles and nice to accommodate our veg/vegan friends! There’s a lot of stuff on the menu. The restaurant is pretty small. The food is good for a quick stop. The gyoza was a surprising highlight.

Soba specialist. I recommend ordering cold soba or dipping soba to preserve the buckwheat noodle’s texture. You pay a premium for the handmade stuff (as opposed to frozen in the supermarket) for its firm “al dente” bite; soba softens when sitting in hot liquid for as few as two minutes. Restaurants that don’t specialize in soba almost certainly use the dehydrated or frozen kind. Cocoron is the rare few that make it fresh. Savor its texture. The yakuzen soup is also highly recommended. It’s a lighter and healthier take on Japanese curry that tastes just as robust and hearty. It does not sit heavy in the stomach. If you’re an adventurous eater, try the Japanese sticky yam. The crunchy and slimy texture is a love it or hate it kind of thing.

This is not a reflection on the quality of the food, but treatment by the staff. I ordered the food online prior to picking up the food. For this review, keep in mind I looked like a delivery guy today in my poncho, helmet and PEV. I know this because a lady from own building mistook me for the delivery guy as well. Onto the review. I received a note my food would be available for pickup at 12:16. I got there at 12:16 on the dot. My food was not ready, and that's ok. I grew up in the restaurant industry so I know how it can be. They told me five more minutes and I waited. 10 minutes, past, "5 more minutes" 20 minutes past. "2 more minutes" 30 minutes past, "2 more minutes" It wasn't till I showed them my email that said the food would be ready at 12:16 and that I am the actual customer that they started cooking the food. I indicate all of this, because it gives me the impression they don't really respect the time of the delivery workers who helped keep the mom and pops alive during the pandemic. That's not cool, every minute they wait on food that is not ready at a proper time is money out of their pockets. Like anyone else reading, they're just trying to make a living.I hope other restaurants aren't like this. Attached is a photo of my rain gear for reference.

This is the new location of a very much loved (seemingly always graffiti covered) noodle joint. Come hungry and ready for something fun and possibly controversial. We started with the sticky yam, which is a mashed yam paste sandwiched between two pieces of Dyson radish with rolled up nori. There were no introductions so we grabbed the “sandwich” with the nori and went to town. I can see why this was considered controversial. There is no way to eat this without a line of either drool or “stickiness” connecting your lips to the yam. The flavor is as expected, Yammy and bright. Worth a try. We then had vegetable gyoza which are great and come classically bound together the Tokyo way with a crust from the pan. These gyoza are soft and flavor packed and not as salty as their pork filled cousins. There are MANY vegan options here and this was only one, but I suspect a vegan would be happy here. (I only know one, so I can’t say for sure). Onto our main dishes. These can be hard to choose from, mostly because the menu is something from a Dora the Explorer episode. Categories of food style with accessories and heat indexes are your guide to choose from. I’m pretty sure the staff intentionally give you extra time to review. I needed it. Cold noodle salad with pork and a dipping sauce it what it was called and you don’t need much more info. The dipping sauce is like you get with soba, and the salad was all sorts of lettuce and cucumbers. The pork is very thinly sliced bits which ensures you get a bit of pork with every noodle you dip. This salad was at the bottom of the menu under the appetizers so I had to ask if it was a main, clearly it’s a main, I almost couldn’t finish it. My wife had one of their signature dishes (can’t remember the name sorry) which was rice and onions and pork with a fried egg on top. Everything was great. The place is cash only so come prepared or pay to use the ATM in the back.

The soba was good but not as good as expected. The appetizers were good I really liked the fried chicken here. The katsu sando was very average probably wouldn't get it again tho. Cash only would recommend but the wait might be long.

Delicious soba. My boyfriend and I didn’t like the mera mera dipping soba as much as one of the more plain dipping sobas, but I still thought the mera mera was unique and worth a try. The matcha latte was also very good.

I had curry soba. It was good, especially for rainy day. Not extraordinarily good, but it’s above average of Japanese food in nyc. Chicken thigh katsu and eggplant were really great. Staffs were also okay, but service was a little bit slow though it wasn’t a matter. Also, they only accept cash, so be prepared or you have to pay 3 dollar fee to withdraw money from the atm in this restaurant.

Atmosphere - it looks ghetto from the outside with blue tent and bit confusing inside but once you are seated it was quiet cozy and lovely. They had space heater set up for each table. No indoor seating but I was comfortable. Nothing fancy but I am good with that. Also, tables are small so maybe harder to make big groups work. Better for couples for 2-3 people. Service - you order ahead of time and then they bring you the food. I liked that system and people were very nice. Food - very good. I loved everything. I recommend this place.

Limited seating space, so try to come with a group no bigger than 4-5, perfect for a 2 guest party. Also, very important for my credit card users like myself: *Cash Only* and another plus, they have vegan options! For our entrees we ordered the Warm Mera Mera Soba and the Warm Japanese Styled Curry (Chicken). Let me start with the soba noodles themselves because they were made beautifully. I tasted the noodles alone and I was blown away by how perfectly they were cooked. The Mera Mera broth was delicious and you immediately taste the kick of spice and sesame. The Japanese Curry broth was also very yummy, packed full of flavor. The broths alone are a bit salty, but dipping them with the noodles, the combo was harmonious. The broth becomes a paste like texture near the end, so they offer you boiling water to add to thin out the broth. For dessert we got the green tea affogato. It was a cute treat consisting of green tea ice cream, red bean paste, mochi, condensed milk, corn flakes, and matcha espresso. How can you ever go wrong with green tea ice cream, red bean paste, and condensed milk? The meal ended with the server giving us a hot cup of green tea, and it was just what I needed to digest everything down. I absolutely loved everything I had, and you will most certainly see me back for the summer to taste their cold soba noodle and appetizers.

Mera Mera Dip Soba was rich, salty, spicy, and creamy. Delicious pairing with fresh soba noodle. Would recommend adding extra veg and pickled if available. Certainly a unique gem in the midst of New York's endless food scene. Tasty and fun experience I'd be happy to enjoy each visit to NY. Cash only! Returned to try the clear broth and the warm koma soba didn't disappoint. It was deliciously refreshing on a warm day. The hints of yuzu are perfection and the dish was quintessentially simple yet complex flavored Japanese style

The food was alright, I ordered the mama’s curry, the picture on menu doesn’t match the actual thing:( Also was trying to order the premium curry that was on their online menu, but when I got there they say they don’t have it. :Sage: It is cash only(but no discount offered by paying cash

    1. The food is decent, I would only recommend the soba and nothing else. The Stamina Don is not a “Powerful Bowl Dish”or “Gut-Busting, it is bland and not spicy. 2. The portions and taste of the appetizer was not worth the money to try. 3. The service was excellent, they rearranged the seating for our large group in a small restaurant. 4. The atmosphere was nice and homey, on busy days it can become crowded.

Cocoron is a cute japanese market. They had a variety of food on the menu. We ordered the kara miso ramen and spicy pork and kimchi dipped soba. Both were yummy, but i definitely preferred the dipped soba. The bacon wrapped mushrooms were alright, but a little salty. The kara age was the weakest of their offerings. The crush was soggy and oily. Overall, a very pleasant experience and i would come back to try other items on their menu.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen so many veggie options at a soba/ramen spot! Got the vegan maru maru soba which was creamy, spicy, and delicious. Table loved all their orders and finished the meal with hot tea. Ambiance is also great and I can’t wait to try everything else

Can't say the food is bad, it's definitely not bad. But also I can't give 4 stars because I have already given 4 stars to great restaurants. The foods, services, atmosphere everything are above average, better than okay but ultimately not great. Plus, they accept CASH ONLY

CASH ONLY!! The soba is really good. I’m not a big soba fan but I really like the noodle, and the seasoning is the right balance - flavorful but not too salty.

Super cute ramen spot with a ton of veggie options. I got the dip soba and it was delicious and also made eating it fun. It was nice and hot to the very last bite! This is definitely now my go to spot for ramen and noodle soup!

Expansive menu and tasty options for soba, hot or cold. We arrived shortly after opening on Sunday evening and got seated immediately. The tables filled up after half an hour. The cold soba was my favorite. You can moderate how much sauce to mix. All the different textures elevated the dish. The hot soba was good as well but didn't seem as unique as the cold version. Bring cash!

Service: We were seated and waited ten minutes for the menu, I guess they were busy with other stuff, but not impressed by their service. Food: I really enjoyed my warm stamina soba, light but flavourful. My gf's dip soba was a bit salty but after we added more broth it progressed huge. The only thing I could complain about was the portion size, we ordered S but we recommend to order L if you don't want to order extra food.

Long wait but worth it. Great bustling yet chill atmosphere. Haven't had soba in a long time but super great choices in their menu. Definitely return.

Amazing soba !!! Had the perfect bite to it. Has vegetarian and vegan options. Large range of sobas, definitely will come back to try more. Seating is a little tight (tables are spacious though).

One of the original soba spots in NYC. Even though they moved locations, it has retained its quality. For an appetizer, we got the gyoza. The filling was good but the skirt should have been crispy. Instead, it came out rather soggy. We got the mera mera dipping and the kashiwa soba. They were both quality dishes although i wish i got more noodles with my mera mera soba. The mera mera dipping comes out with a sterno underneath which heats it up great throughout the meal. Just be careful as it is not like tsukemen where you dip and eat out of the bowl. It has a strong sesame flavor but mellows as you eat it. I loved that they give you soup to add as I ended up drinking the soup well after i finished my noodles.

Excellent dipping soba noodles!! They are full of flavor and make sure to get hot water at the end to drink the soup! The chicken karaage is also one of the best I’ve ever had!

One of the best soba and ramen restaurants I have ever had. We were hugely happy to have discovered this place which we will definitely revisit as soon as we can. The menu offers a great selection of authentic soba and ramen of all kinds in an immersive atmosphere. The restaurant will take you away from the chaos of the city into one of the finest experience of Japanese cuisine.

Disappointed. Unauthentic flavors for the typical zaru soba, overly salty sauce and not much smoky flavor as typical. They had a sesame base hot dipping soba which tasted like a tan tan men, and was ok.. Their enoki bacon appetizer also fell short. Chewy fatty bacon and also overly salty.

Warm and chill ambience. Although I was seated next to the door so the draft coming through was quite chilly! I really enjoyed my mera mera dip soba. The presentation looks great and the broth was excellent. The comedically large spoon is an interesting choice but hey it looks great. Dip ramen salad was also unexpectedly good! * reservation not recommended

One of the best ramen I have ever had! We tried the Vegan Ramen & the Vegan Mera Mera Soba. If you like some spice in your life and want to feel some zing then don’t think twice. Just keep some cash in your pocket and order the Vegan Mera Mera Soba (it’s damn good!) If you prefer less spice, go for the Vegan Ramen. It is also really good. However, for me hands down it’s Vegan Mera Mera Soba. And yes, don’t forget to carry cash (cards not accepted)

So friggin good! I'm Japanese and I felt like I was taken back to Tokyo to an authentic sobaya-san. Everything was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. It's very affordable and all their apps are shareable. If you're looking for a good Japanese noodle place, this is it! The only thing is, they are cash only so make sure you have some on you. If not, that's okay too they have an ATM inside.
