A very good place to visit, taking children along is all the more important! It is a sprawling campus, once away from the city but now a central hub of transport activity. A leisurely day, dedicated fully to go around is recommended. The Zoo houses various species of animals and reptiles, all in their natural habitats. Going through rented battery cars is advisable for children and aged. For others, a peaceful walk or on a cycle will give a lasting experience. Some small eateries are inbuilt at various points inside the zoo but they cannot give a sumptuous food - just some snacks and biscuits they offer. Outside food and plastic bottles are prohibited in the zoo. The battery cars are paid service per head. A separate paid lion safari is another offering from the zoo but it is not worthy - one can view 4 lions and a cluster of deers only in this safari. Moreover lions and deer, a few of them, are available for view in the battery car serviced routes also. In my view a hired cycle ride would be more satisfying - I shall try if I have to visit this zoo another time!

Amazing place to visit with family!!! It may take about half a day to see around the entire zoo. Visitors may walk around or hire cycles or use the battery operated vehicles to see the place. Food stalls are available inside the zoo. A well maintained place with a lot of animals and birds and indeed a must see place.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, commonly known as Vandalur Zoo, is a prominent zoological garden situated in Vandalur, near Chennai, India. Named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Arignar Anna, the zoo spans over 1,490 acres, making it one of the largest in South Asia. **Key Features:** 1. **Diverse Fauna:** Vandalur Zoo is home to a vast array of animal species, including mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians. The zoo plays a crucial role in the conservation of endangered species. 2. **Naturalistic Enclosures:** The zoo is renowned for its spacious and well-designed enclosures that aim to replicate the natural habitats of the animals. This approach enhances the well-being of the animals and provides visitors with a more immersive experience. 3. **Conservation Initiatives:** Vandalur Zoo actively participates in conservation programs, breeding endangered species to contribute to their survival. The zoo's breeding programs have been successful in reintroducing certain species back into the wild. 4. **Education and Awareness:** The zoo places a strong emphasis on education and awareness. It conducts educational programs and activities to inform visitors about wildlife conservation, biodiversity, and the importance of preserving natural ecosystems. 5. **Safari Park:** Vandalur Zoo includes a safari park where visitors can embark on guided tours to observe animals in semi-natural settings. This adds an adventurous aspect to the overall zoo experience. 6. **Nocturnal Animals Section:** A unique feature of the zoo is its dedicated section for nocturnal animals, allowing visitors to witness the behaviors of creatures that are active during the night. 7. **Aviaries and Butterfly Park:** The zoo houses impressive aviaries that showcase a variety of bird species. Additionally, there is a butterfly park where visitors can marvel at the vibrant colors of these delicate insects. 8. **Reptile House:** A specialized facility for reptiles provides a glimpse into the fascinating world of snakes, turtles, and other reptilian species. Vandalur Zoo combines entertainment with a strong focus on conservation and education, making it a significant destination for both animal enthusiasts and those interested in wildlife preservation. Very good and neatly maintained zoo by tamilnadu government. One of the best place to spend time with family and kids. 1. We can hire battery operated E-cycles / normal cycles on hourly rental basis with minimum fully refundable caution deposit. 2. Battery operated car facilities available that helps a lot if you are going along with elderly people. 3. Lion safaries available. 4. Kids play zone is well organised and this is free of cost 5. Good snacking places at frequent distances and especially the tea provided in the government stalls are really good eventhough the price is 20 rs. Quantity of tea and taste also really good. free Drinking water arranged is also available at regular intervals. Above said 3 facilities are not included in the entry fee. Separate ticket needs to be taken for each. Only disappointment is recently government increased the entry fee which is double than the older amount. Entry fee itself consuming more money. Earlier we use to spend good time with very reasonable entry fee which was affordable for all kind of people. You can see free ranging deers inside the zoo. To roam around by walking one needs solid 5 to 6 hours to cover the entire zoo..

Amazing place to have a day out , variety of animals and huge land area . There are maps present almost everywhere to see where you are and how to go to the next spot . Almost all the animals are maintained properly and cleanly there are also food spots costing at affordable prices. Overall it is a complete zoo experience.

The zoo is open till 5pm in the evening and 6pm during holidays. You need to plan your arrival to visit this place peacefully. They have a 4 wheeler parking space 750m away from the zoo and the vam service to pick and drop you from that place. Avoid visiting the zoo during weekends and holidays in order to spend some time peacefully inside the zoo.

One of the largest zoological park. East to visit from Chennai. More number of animals, birds, fishes and snakes in each species. Clean environment. Also buses, small auto like vehicles are available to visit without walking. If you have interest in cycling, you may barrow cycles for rent. All the places are cycle accessible. So you can watch and enjoy all the sceneries in the park without walking. From Indian species to foreign species are also available. No plastic allowed. Plastic bottle not allowed. If you need to go with plastic bottle, you bought a sticker tag. After came out you give that tag to checking people, they will refund you money. Food items are not allowed. So don't come with that. Cloak room are available for free. So you can keep your things safe without holding. Place is suitable for all type of people come like family, friends, students and couples.

We loved the overall visit experience with my family. My recommendation is to cover both the safari organized by the team so that you will understand what is your favorite. After that if you can walk then you can cover most of the places by yourself. Safety wise it is maintained properly and I would say it a must visit place if you want your kids to enjoy the ZOO🐘🦁

Worth a place to spend time with kids. Pls take the battery car and it's β‚Ή150 something. They have taken to all the places and provided adequate time to see the animals. My daughter actually enjoyed it a lot. If you plan to go ny walk, you may get tired but birds and parrots you can see. This zoo is captivating destination for wildlife enthusiasts. It boasts a diverse collection of animals and lush surroundings, making it a delightful place for a day of exploration and education.

Zoos play a crucial role in wildlife conservation, educating the public, and preserving endangered species. And Vandalur zoo is one of the best among them. It provides a safe and educational environment for families to learn about animals from around the world. Don't visit Vandalur during summer season as the animals won't come out of their cage. Also you will get exhausted more. Irrespective of season, It's better to take a battery cycle to roam inside.

I visited vandaloor zoo last year with my friends. This was my first time and long time wish too. Had an amazing experience and memorable days in my life. We plan this trip because that was the last year of our undergrad. Hopefully it comes out very well. If you are living in city just plan it accordingly to reach the vandaloor. First We took the metro to reach Central from there we took one train to vandaloor and share auto to reach the spot. Actually It was quite far from Royapettah. We reached the location at the correct time only because of my friends. They were expert in travel. But unfortunately we did not get the bicycle on that time. That's the only drawback from this trip. If there is no bicycle you get into trouble. You only roaming the zoo by walk. That's quite hard. Some people were like it. *Please the carry the water bottle with you guys* you know the drinks are little bit expensive inside the zoo and also some sort of foods too. Make sure to plan the budget with your friends before the trip. That is going to be really helpful. Almost we covered all the areas and saw all the animals tooπŸ₯¦πŸ¦πŸ†πŸ―🦁🏞️🦏🐘😜I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Tickets price 90rs. Only for adults. Definitely a great place to spend your weekends.

My relatives came to see vandallur zoo yesterday and found the maintenance of the animals was not good and they were not happy, especially the lion was limping and did not have proper water it was very unclean and stinking and the care taker was pouring water on him standing little far away and they found him growling in pain it will be good if the government takes any step for supplying regular dr check up and keep the animals places filled with more clean water and food for all the animals in this summer before they die The white tiger too very weak and tired and dirty very poor maintenance of the staffs pls take steps to refresh the animals and save them. Other facilities in the zoo was good but for the animals who are staying there no one to voice out for them so pls. take any steps as soon as possible πŸ™ and save the animals in this hot summer. 24/5/2023

We took battery car for the zoo ride... it took 45mins to cover the whole zoo. The number of battery car can be increased as the waiting time there was too much. As of now only 7 cars are operated. 12 to 14 people can get in one car. One good thing I liked was all these cars were driven by women. Good initiative..

Have wide variety of animals and birds but not satisfied with the maintenance of those creatures. But worth a visit with especially kids. I recommend to visit in the morning rather than other times of the day as you need to walk around for long. public holidays or on summer vacation not at all recommended. Drinking water available inside the zoo is really awful.
