The food was good enough, especially given the cost. It is self-service and the ordering system is an App. The beer selection was very poor and it is named Beerhouse! No description on the craft beers and no waiter to describe them. App defaulted to an 18% tip, but you don't actually have service just someone drops off items when you order. If you are looking for a restaurant meal, with a server, you do not find it here.

The food is 5 stars, very good pizza and nachos. I actually liked the ordering system, order beers and food as you need them without waiting for a server to come by, and items were delivered promptly. Self service for plates, napkins, etc is no problem, I would still tip 15% due to prompt service and everyone was clearly working hard. Unfortunately due to the 3.5% credit card fee I chose to pay cash and only had enough for a 10% tip.

Food was okay, Brussel sprouts are good. Service was poor. Took way to long for drinks. Only saw 3 employees. You have to order via phone so no service at all. None of our special requests with food was taken care of. Would not recommend

First time there food was great had an app and the Crab ragoon burger.. it was a diffrent set up and if I knew how it worked going in it would have been a different experience. You have to order on your phone and get your own condiments and silverware and toss your own trash..there was no one to greet you so if you don't know this before hand it was difficult to figure out..

I'm at a loss for words. Pictured below is a REAL Cuban sandwich. The other a total disaster. Guys. You didn't use Cuban bread you could have ordered from tampa Florida. You didn't butter the top and bottom of the buns. You didn't press the sandwich till it cooked through. And don't get me started on how everything is self serve in ur restaurant. My response to mgrs response. Buy a sandwich press and the right bread and do it right. A midwest spin on this famous sandwich is an insult. Make it right or take it off the menu. Leave it to an iowan to screw up food everytime.

I am beyond disappointed in our dining experience. I have been anxiously awaiting the re-opening, as we always enjoyed the Beerhouse. We stopped for dinner around 7pm on a Friday night. There was no one to greet us, just a sign that said to seat yourselves. There were plenty of open tables, so that was not an issue. We sat, and realized that you will have to scan a QR code to get the menu. This was inconvenient, because menus are really difficult to see on phones for some people. Luckily I brought my reading glasses. We ordered the 10" Beerhouse Supreme pizza ($13), the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich ($12) with fries ($2.50), and the Pork Tenderloin sandwich ($11) with tots ($3). No one stopped by the table at any point. We heard one of the staff who was delivering food to another table tell them that the drinks were self-serve and pointed to a corner. We went and got our glasses of water, plastic plates, plastic silverware, napkins, ketchup, mustard, red pepper flakes, dried parm, salt, and pepper ourselves. The station was a mess, with napkins on the floor and food spilled on the counter and the floor. Our food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The pork tenderloin photo showed lettuce, onion, and pickles. There was nothing on the sandwich, just the meat and bun. We went and asked for the toppings, and eventually pickles were brought over, but not the other items. The pork tenderloin sandwich was not good - it was very dry and bland. The tater tots were extremely salty. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was very hot - and we enjoy spicy food. It didn't have flavor, just a lot of hot sauce. Although we do enjoy spicy food, we do not enjoy spicy food that is hot for the sake of being hot... it needs to have some flavor and this did not. There was nothing on the sandwich, just the chick and the bun. The fries were fine, however for $2.50 charge we expected a lot more than the few that were included. The pizza was soggy. It was impossibly to eat without folding the piece in half as the crust would not hold up. No one came by to see if we were happy with our food order. No one came by at any time other than delivering the original food order, and then the additional pickles. Payment is via a link that is sent after you place your order. There is a credit card processing fee - this is extremely annoying, since there was not an option to pay other than by credit card. The receipt also shows a delivery fee... I don't know if this is for delivering the food to the table? Then, believe it or not, there is a place to leave a tip, that defaults to 18%. When I have received absolutely no service, that is bold to assume I will be leaving any tip, let alone 18%! We left, and no one said thank you or have a good night. I am very disappointed. I get the staffing shortages right now, and the accommodations for COVID. Unfortunately Beerhouse has fallen far short of the mark here, and has compromised their service and quality to the point where on a Friday night there were no more than 5 tables with people at them. We were extremely unhappy with every part of our visit - from the lack of service, lack of interaction, lack of quality & taste, all the way to a $45 bill, basically for having someone else poorly cook our food. We will definitely not be going back and would never recommend Beerhouse.

Was apprehensive given low reviews but what a gem! Great food, really friendly staff and quick service. Good variety of beer on tap. Awesome story of how they started and their mission.

As travelers passing through the area, we chose The Beerhouse for its proximity to our hotel, and because the menu selections looked good. We weren't prepared for the nearly contactless service, though. As 1st-time customers, using a QR code and scrolling and scrolling, and scrolling to read the menu made ordering difficult. The food arrived promptly and was good, but no one ever asked if we needed anything. Everything was dependent on the digital menu. It seemed like the only way to get a question answered was to go to the bar. If I lived in the area, I'm not sure I would return.

Well... back in the days before everything shut down, we really enjoyed this place. The food was great, the environment was fun, and the staff was always attentive and engaging. Now... not so much. The food isn't the problem; it's still fine. When you arrive, you seat yourself wherever you want. You then have to scan a QR code to bring up a menu, which you also use to order. Your only interaction with an employee is when they bring your food. Need silverware? Get it yourself. (Plastic.) Order a soft drink? Get it yourself. Need salt or pepper? Again, get it yourself. Needless to say, this isn't the experience anyone wants at this kind of place. We saw three couples show up, sit for a bit, and leave without ordering. Either they didn't understand that this is all self-service now, or they didn't want to dine that way. Conversations overheard at other tables made it clear even the ones who dealt with it weren't excited by the concept either. Maybe they're focusing on to go and delivery orders. If so, why bother remodeling the place? It seems like a waste of money, creating an overall unpleasant experience.

Food is ok but hate the format. You HAVE to order from an app, total pain. Everything is self serve otherwise and as I said the food is average at best. I've read the reviews and understand the worker shortage, BUT this is not the answer.

Chose not to use my phone to order. Did not want to have to set up an account to order food. Got the young man’s attention at the bar where we were setting and he gave us paper menus, asked my husband what he would like to drink, gave him his beer and walked away. (No offer of a beverage for me) Decided what we wanted, waited and waited, finally asked if he was going to take our order, he did along with my drink order. Food showed up quickly and very good, had to leave hot food and walk to other side of restaurant to get napkins. Enjoyed food. Young man asks “you done” we said yes, he clears the baskets and leaves. During the 10-15 minutes he was gone we were discussing how many people walk out without paying with zero amount of customer service that is offered. At the same time we overheard them talking about someone had left without paying. Finally, the other bartender came by and we asked for our check. Hopefully, they are paid a living wage, because they certainly aren’t going to get any tips for quality service.

At The Beerhouse — The BeerHouse, Urbandale Iowa. It’s a QR code automated facility. You scan the QR then order then the bartender brings a daily beverages, you go get your own cokes. The waiter comes and drops off food. So the food was great, the atmosphere was really nice, very DIY dining. The people very pleasant. The TVs on all the sports and discovery shark week. The appetizer was sun dried tomato dip with pita chips. I had the fish tacos. Also very good, messy but you know it was great. The wonderful Miss Sherri had the the bacon cheese burger, was the best sisco patty available with great dread and cheese. Then bacon, of course. The name beer house, it didn’t have a great fraught selection. Apparently, the the sister restaurant “The Hall” has all the good beer.. and does not have “beer” in its name. I had the old stand by, Blue moon. If you like ipa, and a beer list without descriptions , then you are in heaven. I would recommend you try it. My rating would be 6.7. If you have beer in your name have a good selection. It’s solid bar food. With 0-10, and 5 being average 6.7 is a solid rating. #thebeerhouse #barfood #checkoutthehall #beerhouse #sorrywewerehungryandforgottotakethepictilgone

Had an interesting visit here tonight. For a timeline, this was our first visit since they finished the remodel. We walked in and it was self seating, the bar area looked really well done and put together but the restaurant/seating area had real cafeteria vibes. We selected a high top table, as those were optimized for groups of 6. I will note, the high top chairs are not the most comfortable. They are square bar seats with a back attached to them in a way that can make it hard to sit comfortably with your center of gravity. The regular height chairs look much better, with a full seat design that has a back and supports built around it. The bar stools are exceptional in comparison, with full circle to sit on and a back/arm rest that wraps around about half of it. They also feel quite sturdy (relevant later). They swapped to the toast ordering and paying system, which I generally like. Pricing and options matched a sit down chain restaurant like I remembered, think Apple Bees, Chilis, or Ruby Tuesday. Upon submitting my order is the first thing that made me confused. Soda, which was priced at $4, is self serve. There is a station between the dining area and the game room with a machine and some twelve or fourteen ounce plastic cups. This is not a typical sit-down restaurant expectation. Gets me wondering if I sat at the bar, is it full service? Ultimately, its fine. I don't mind getting my own soda. Then, a bit later our food arrives. The burger and pork tenderloin sandwich in baskets with fries, but a giant pretzel on just like a piece of brown wax paper. Interesting. Break it apart, it tastes good, probably not $11 but I'm a sucker for a giant pretzel. The burger was fine, the fries had no salt on them. So I look around for napkins and salt, ketchup, stuff and its not on the table. Wander over back by the drink machine to fill up and find that there's single use forks and spoons, the big squirt jug of ketchup and mustard with the little cups to fill up, and what appeared to be individual salt and pepper packets and a napkin shoe. This caused the next bit of dissonance. Just seemed odd. Anyways I wander back to sit down, we're in one of the high top spots, and as I sat down and slid my chair forward, the foot rest bar gives way the chair shoots out from under me and I land on my back. I'm super disoriented, and before I'm getting up the bartender is running across the restaurant to ask if I'm okay and figure out what happens. Around this time I process that I was still holding onto newly full cup of Diet Pepsi. Well its empty as its spilt all over me. He was great, seemed concerned, 10/10. He got another employee to come clean up the soda from the floor and replace the seat with one of the nice ones from the bar while I wandered to the bathroom to clean myself up. This is when I hit the third bit of dissonance, I washed my hands, arms, and face then turned to look for paper towels to find one of those blow dryers on the wall. Not the biggest of deals, but in this case a paper towel setup would have been really nice and something I'd expect from a lot of the sit-down restaurants. So I make my way back to the napkin shoe and basically empty the thing trying to dry myself off before walking back to the table. So there I am, standing at the table, talking to my buddy, covered in Diet Pepsi, eating unsalted fries and looking around the room at the 'get stuff' area and the 20 person sitting low rise tables, and the game room trying to figure out like why everything feels... off? I realize that I came expecting a sit-down restaurant experience, I'm paying a sit-down restaurant price, but I'm really at a fast food place. They are really cutting the amenities and service, but not the costs, at least on the non-bar half of the restaurant. We watched quite a few people come in and do carry out pizza. I suspect its still pretty good, I always loved their pizza. I'll try it again, probably sitting at the bar, see if that aligns better with my expectations of sit-down service, sit-down food, sit-down prices.

Very cool place. Awesome atmosphere, great food and drinks and loved how you order from your phone and grab condiments yourself. Made things easier. Wish more places were like this. I’d definitely come back!

Went for lunch on a Monday at noon. Only two people in the place. Sat at the bar and obviously had quick and friendly service. Had the gyro sandwich and it was delicious, large and tasty. In addition had Cajun tator tots and they were good too, not too spicy for me, but companion thought they were a bit much!

This place is pretty overpriced for what you get. My wings were dry and they charge for ranch. Yep, you you read that right, CHARGE FOR RANCH. The drinks during “happy hour” were still way too expensive. There is no service to speak of, you order on your phone and they bring it to you. It’s a shame the service sucks and the prices are high because the layout and design of the place is quite nice. I won’t be going back.

The ordering process is hard to navigate and is a nightmare...tips are auto added and we had no waiter/ waitress.....all they do is bring the food you try to order by scanning the qr code on the table. Will not be back. Food was good

Food was good, and place was pretty empty. Have to order from an internet based service and a person brings you your food or drink. No follow up on how your food was. Had to get basic dining utensils from a self service station. Going as a group we all received food at different times based on when our orders went in and "server" didn't say who it was for even though there were names on the tags we found out later. When you go to pay, tip starts out at 18%. I mean my food didn't end up on the floor, that I know of, so I'll tip you something, but really asking for 18% for being a food runner, uh no.....we all had pizzas which were really good.

  • 2/5 Matthew E. 7 months ago on Google
The process is not my thing. Everything is done with a QR code. You even have to enter your credit card on their site just to order. I'm not a fan. The food was good. The service was quick once you navigated the website, but you are on your own without pulling up the website again. The atmosphere is nice. They have lots of TV's. I hope this does not become the new norm. We found out that you may be able to get actual service if you sit at the bar. It probably explains why this huge restaurant was empty except for the bar seating.

Place was cool looking and clean. Food was okay for what you pay for. The whole “diy” dining wasn’t my type of restaurant. We are from out of state staying at a hotel near by so we walked over not knowing you do everything yourself. The kicker was they wanted a tip…for doing nothing. Very weird concept.

The Dr has had me pee in cups larger that what was provided for my pop that I had to get myself, along with the cheap (plastic) eating utensils, napkins, condiments. QR everything. The bill has a spot for a tip. For what service/lack of does one tip for? I wont be back. FYI, If I ever enter another restaurant with the same QR ordering style. Back out the door I will go!

Still waiting on my food. Been waiting an hour +, the rest of our table has been done eating for a good 30min. The wait staff literally just brings u your food & they want an 18% tip?? Ya no. Food WAYYYY OVERPRICED. 1000% DO NOT RECOMMEND.

  • 2/5 Mindy A. 8 months ago on Google
My food was really good. I had a Bleu burger and truffle fries. However, my boyfriend's tenderloin sandwich was hard as a rock. I suggested sending it back, and he looked around and said there's no one to send it back with. True statement. Zero service yet had options for leaving big tips when paying thru their qr code, which is how we had to order. We traveled up from the KC area for the day and wanted to try something new. It was definitely lacking the service. Felt like a fast food restaurant except the prices. Our check was just over $50 for the 2 of us. No appetizers, just 2 sandwiches and 1 beer. Do not recommend it.

Top notch service. Brody the bartender is great and remembers your "usual" order after visiting a couple times. This is mine and my coworkers go to trivia spot on Tuesdays!
