Do visit this temple when you get anywhere near this place . The temple is not crowded too which also helps in spending more time looking at its architectural marvel .

Thiru Uthirakosamangai temple is known to be built by Pandya Kings during Ramanathapuram Sethupathy Dynasty (1500 AD). This temple is around 3000 years old famous Shiva Temple. It is maintained by Sethupathi vamsam still. We went there on Chirtirai Pournami Thiruvizha. I use to go to this temple once a year for praying to Lord Mangalanatha Swamy and Mangalanayagi Ambal. It is located about 13Km from Ramanathapuram City. You can go by Car (or) by bus. It will take 10 - 20 minutes to reach the temple. There is no need to go inside the city. This temple is located on Thutukudi - Thiruchendur highway. There at the temple entrance, you worship Lord Vinayagar and Lord Murugan. Then go straight inside the temple to worship Managalanatha Swamy and Managalanayagi (stays to the left side of the lord shiva). From there, you go around the temple to worship a 3000-year-old Jujube Tree. There are other few gods to pray to which you can do while walking around the temple. Uthirakosamangai Temple Pooja Timings Daily at this Temple, Morning 5.30 AM – Ushad Puja, 8.00 AM – Shanti Puja, 10.00 AM – Uchchi Kala Puja, Evening 5.00 PM – Sayaratchai Puja, 7.00 PM Irandam Kala Puja and 8.00 PM – Arthajama Puja will be held. Major festivals of the Temple Tamil Month Chithirai (Mid – April) – Thirukalyanam Tamil Month Vaikasi (Mid–May) – Vasantha Urchavam Tamil Month Aani (Mid – June) – 10 days of Shiva Urchavam Tamil Month Aippasi (Mid – October) – Annabishekam Tamil Month Margazhi (Mid – December) – Thiruvathirai festival Tamil Month Maasi (Mid – February) – Shivarathiri

One of the Jyotirlingas and one of the most beautiful temples in the world. Always crowded but in evenings the crowd is less. I did darshan both in the evening and the next morning also got a chance to see sphatik shivligs established by the Aadi guru Shankaracharya. If you are Shiva devotee I will recommend to sit there and mediated and chant om nama shivay you will get completely differ vibe there.

Supposed to be the oldest Siva temple. Mangalanathar & Mangalambigai are the main deities. Emerald Nataraja statue is always covered with Sandal & opened only on Thiruvadhirai - Siva's birth day, once an year. Stalaviruksham (Location Tree) is 3000+ years old Elandhai Maram (Jujube tree). Entire temple campus is under renovation. A place to visit to understand the rich old culture of Hinduism.

Ancient Shiva temple, 13km from Ramanathapuram built by Pandya kings. It is believed to be the first Shiva temple in the world. Thalaviruksham is ilanthai maram (Indian palm) which is 3000 years old. The most important thing in this temple is the 6 ft Emerald Natarajar statue. Abhishekam and Pooja are performed only on Thiruvathirai day, arudhra dharshan. Other days the statue is covered with sandal powder. Great sculpture, marvelous oil painting on the wall ceilings. Good parking area. Renovation is in progress No lodges and restaurants. Must visit place.

It is the first Sivan temple. Adhi Sivan. Not only that the first Natatajar statute started to worship from this temple. This Nataraja statute is carved in emerald. This is almost 6 feet's size. Everyone has to visit and worship this temple. Here another important is that the jujube tree has been living for more than 3000 years.

Arulmigu Mangaleswari Udanurai Mangalanatha Swamy Temple, Uthirakosamangai Temple is located in Ramnad district. It is believed to be the first Shiva temple in the World. This is the birthplace of Siva and Parvathi. The name Uthirakosamangai means Siva taught the Vedic secrets - Pranava Mantra OHM- to Parvathi. The Six feet Natarajar carved in emerald is one where else one can see this attraction. The idol is merged with sandal paste for throughout the year except on Arudra Day. This paste is removed and dharsan to public allowed on the full day and again sandal paste is applied and kept closed. Thogh the crowd is more on that day, it is worth a visit. This temple is known to have gained prominence since before the Ramayana period. It is said that this is the place where Ravana and his wife Mandothari worshiped and got married. Since the flower thalamboo supported Brahma who lied that he has seen Siva's head, is banned in all the temples of Siva, but only here this flower thalamboo is used for worship. Lord Shiva in this temple is mentioned in Thiruvasakam in 38 places and has the honor of being one of the Thiruvasakam shrines . The temple has a total of five towers, including the seven-tiered Rajagopuram. At the entrance to the Utprakara, two of the Yalis with beautiful carvings have a stone ball in their mouths. Beautiful sculptures are seen on the pillars of the Temple. The Lord of this place helps to get rid of hindrances like curse of ancestors, ban on marriage, childlessness, hindrance in education, delay in foreign travel. The Indian plum i.e Ilanthai tree is 3000 year viruksha - temple tree - here. One will feel the Divine vibrations here. Renovation work is going on.

The main attraction of this temple is a statue of Natarajar made of emerlad which is about  51/2 feet tall. This idol is known as Margatha Natarajar and the deity is always covered with sandal paste.  Only in the Tamil month of Margazhi on Tiruvathira nakshtram  the sandal paste gets removed and there is abhishekam for the idol and this special darshan is known as  Arudhra darishanam. Lakhs of devotees visit the temple on this day and on the next day again the idol  gets smeared with sandal paste. To have a darshan of this deity, one must be there around 12.00 noon on regular days.

A blissful temple which is said to be believed as the first formed Shivan temple. Had a good crowd by evng 4.30,has a good car parking area. The temple is under renovation that doesn't disturb the dharshan. The temple needs good maintenance as it looks dirty inside. The vibe inside temple gives you an extraordinary feeling. The maragadha natarajar is a must see here, they open the prakaram only once in a year. Excellent temple. Definitely must visit

Oldest temple ever built for Lord Shiva.. It is located just 15 minutes from Ramanadhapuram. The temple has some splendid architecture and old paintings Parking area is also available The temple area is too large, so it can handle huge crowds When we visited the temple, it was under renovation, but no problem for devotees. we can worship peacefully When you are planning to visit rameshwaram, please add this temple to your list, a must-see place for hindus Many vegetarian food stalls are available outside of the temple.

One of the most beautiful temple in south India. This is the place where Siva transferred the secrets of Vedas to Parvati. Uthiram means (upadesam) kosam (secrets) Parvati (Mangai) hence this place is known as Uthira Kosa Mangai.

Rooms and Lodges are not available there...... Uthirakosamangai, also known as Mangalanatha Swamy temple, is a Shaiva temple situated near Ramanathapuram in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. The temple is much older and the structure as it exists today is believed to be built by the Pandya kings, Achutappa Nayak (1529–1542 CE), Muthuveerappar and other kings of Ramanthapuram at various times. The temple has been glorified by the hymns of 9th-century saint Manickavasagar and 15th-century saint ...
