We met our guide and new friend, Rachel, at an easy-to-find location. I can’t overstate how lovely, energetic, and kind Rachel was from the very beginning. We were a group of eight from the US and were in a larger tour group of ten. Within minutes she called each of us by our names as we made our way through (rough estimate) 7k of streets and alleys. We stopped at a couple of fresh markets, a meat and seafood market, and for two sit-down experiences. We visited a couple of spice shops as well. Rachel discussed the foods, both prepared in the restaurants and fresh, as well as a broader perspective on food culture in Athens, Greece, and the region. Our meals, our snacks, our desserts, our wine, and our spirits were exceptional. We were never rushed and she ensured everyone was comfortable at each place, be it from the heat or the smell (fish and meat markets). Rachel was very engaged with our 12 year old, who is especially interested in Greek language and culture. Every place we visited welcomed us and Rachel seems to know everyone in the neighborhoods we visited. This was an outstanding way to spend our first morning in Athens and gave us a dozen ideas for what, when, and where to eat during our visit. You will be very, very well fed during this tour. I suggest coming hungry. Skip breakfast.

The best food tour we've had! Arela, our food tour guide, was a local and worked in the area in one of the restaurants in the meat market. She had so many stories to tell and so many connections with the locals, it felt very special to experience this tour with her. would highly recommend this food tour for your next visit to Athens !

This tour is fantastic! We had a group of 6 and there were 5 other guests for an afternoon tour. Our guide went to great lengths to make sure everyone was taken care of and happy! My mom doesn't eat meat, so she got a few different dishes to try. In total, we had two sit down meals and stopped to try leek spanakopita, honey, some meats and cheeses, and raki! We also got wine or ouzo at the sit down meals. On top of eating a ton of food, our guide gave us fantastic dining recommendations for the rest of our trip!

A great way to enjoy some local fare, learn about Greek gastronomy, and explore some venues and neighborhoods that might not necessarily be part of the normal tourist map. Arela, our guide, was knowledgeable and led us to some tasty experiences that helped broaden our knowledge of Greek cuisine. There were no duds among all the venues that provided us with a little taste of Greece. From boutique shops to food markets and tavernas, we had ample tastings and meals to deliciously fill our bellies to capacity. We were lucky to be a group of only two, so we were able to monopolize Arela's attention and glean much information about Greek culture and traditions, not necessarily food related. It was a tasty afternoon well spent.

Highly recommend taking this tour within your first day or two in Athens. We were able to try most of the foods on our wish list and learned a lot. Our guide, Arela, is very familiar with the area, told fun stories, and was easily able to answer everyone's questions.

This tour was great. You will not be sorry. Rachel was the best tour guide. Very knowledgeable and fun! Two wonderful qualities in a foreign city tour. Food was great. Stops were great. Can’t recommend enough.

One of the best food tours we have ever been on! Rachel was amazing and made sure to get to know everyone’s names and helped create a space for everyone to interact and learn each other’s name. She has a great soul and you can tell she truly cares that each of her guests has a great time. Incredibly accommodating of any food intolerances and allergies as well! Of course, we ate a great diversity of AMAZING Greek food and you learn about the history of Athena and the food at the same time! A must in Athens, if it’s available on your trip, 10/10 recommend.

There is a reason this is so highly rated! Michael's approach is like taking a walk with a friend in a cool neighborhood. He was super unpretentious, knowledgeable, friendly, unrushed and flexible. The tour was a really, really good time promoting local businesses as well. The tastings were well spaced and delicious! Definitely recommend it!!

Wow, what an unforgettable tour! I have been talking about it nonstop ever since. Being led around the streets by Rachel was the BEST way to start my trip (especially with a tasty treat around every corner)! Rachel’s care and attention to every member of the group was so special and genuine. The food was of course delicious (my group loved the zucchini balls and yogurt) but Rachel was the star of the show! Her passion for Greek cuisine and the city of Athens is absolutely infectious. Oh, and I will dream of the orange pie for years to come. Absolutely recommend!

We had our tour today with Arela and we couldn’t ask for a better host! She was so knowledgeable about the city, took us to delicious stops on the tour, and was a joy to be around! They were also able to accommodate our friend who is vegetarian and another person in the group who was celiac. Highly recommend this tour if you’re a foodie and want to learn about history!

We thoroughy enjoyed our tour with Rachel, it was possibly the best food tour we've taken anywhere in the world. Our small group was made up of some really interesting and friendly fellow travellers. Rachel took us to places we would never have experienced on our own and she introduced us to the most wonderful authentic Greek food and drinks. Her vibrancy and enthusiasm was refreshing and we came away with tips on how to order Greek food as well as great places to eat. We won't need to eat again for another day or so!

What an amazing experience! We saw Rachel and Mike on ‘A Life in the Sun,’ which inspired us to book their food tour during our trip to Athens and we were not disappointed. As soon as we met Rachel, her bubbly personality shone through. We were taken on a whirlwind of taste, smells and the vibrant colours of Greek food. We loved the storytelling and her knowledge of the culture was extensive. We sampled a variety of delicious traditional food and met vendors of local delis, markets and shops. We came away feeling very full and learned so much. Thank you Rachel. This is a tour not to be missed.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a phenomenal food tour in Greece, and it exceeded all my expectations. The pace of the tour was perfectly balanced, not too slow to become tedious, yet not too fast to miss out on the rich cultural experiences. It was nothing short of amazing! Our guide, Michalis, played a pivotal role in making this food tour an unforgettable experience. His passion for Greek cuisine and the local culture was palpable, and it added a layer of authenticity to the entire journey. Michalis went above and beyond to ensure that our group felt engaged, comfortable, and, most importantly, well-fed. What stood out the most was Michalis's genuine care for our group. He took the time to explain the historical significance behind each dish, providing a deeper understanding of the culinary landscape. His warm personality and infectious enthusiasm created a delightful atmosphere throughout the tour. The selection of food venues showcased the diversity and richness of Greek cuisine. From savory olives to sweet baklava, every stop was a culinary adventure. The attention to detail in curating this gastronomic experience was evident, and it truly reflected the essence of Greek flavors. I highly recommend this food tour to anyone looking for an immersive and delectable journey through Greek cuisine. The combination of a well-paced itinerary, a knowledgeable guide like Michalis, and the exquisite food selection makes this tour a five-star experience. Kudos to the organizers for creating such a memorable and enjoyable culinary adventure in Greece! Mono AEK!!

This food tour was exceptional!! My husband, 3 month old and myself went on this tour and we felt that we were to taste so much delicious food, learn so much about the food and culture, explore Athens and also get some great tips on where to go in Athens during our stay! They made it easy to navigate with such a young baby and were thoughtful to our needs. They were such a positive light to be around and you could tell all the locals were delighted to see them as we wandered the streets. Definitely worth doing while in Athens!

My wife and I joined Michalis as he led our group of 10 around Athens for a 2 PM tour. He was knowledgeable, gracious, fun and well recognized by many of the shop and restaurant owners we visited. He brought us to the most interesting, delectable and fascinating food establishments. Our tour included stops at the fish market, lunch restaurant, spice store, olive shop, deli, and coffee shop for a real Greek coffee. It was just the right mix of touring, information and relaxed meals together in wonderful settings with Athens as the backdrop. Highly recommended.

Seriously an amazing guide and experience. Michael is so welcoming and introduced us to great Greek food. You know you have the best when many vendors stopped him along our tour to give him a greeting. He added history along the way, leaving our belly full and a comfort of the area and a heart for Greece.

Our tour with Mike was great. He is obviously very knowledgeable about Athens, Greek food, and traditions. Our group left absolutely stuffed and got to experience some of the best that Athens has to offer. He was very accommodating to a few picky eaters in our group as well. Overall, highly recommend this for a fun family outing in Athens!

I was so so lucky this walking food tour was recommended to me by a friend during my time in Athens. It’s definitely one of the BEST experiences I had whilst travelling Greece, and would do it again. The food is beyond amazing, Mike and Rachael are both very kind, willing to share all their knowledge and answer your questions. Please give this a go the next time you’re in Greece, because I will be recommending this to everyone! :)

Simply put...DO THIS TOUR! If you do one thing in Athens make time for this and you absolutely won't regret it! As a solo traveller, I was a little nervous but I honestly had the most incredible time. You'll visit places you'll not likely find by yourself. The food was an absolute feast for the eyes and the soul - I was literally stuffed by the end! My advice: don't eat much before! I was lucky enough to have Rachel to myself and what a wonderful person she is! Rachel is not only incredibly knowledgeable but also warm, personable, kind and has such a wonderful humour - she is easily a friend for life now! Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! Thank you Rachel! Mike - can't wait to meet you next time!

Rachel was so passionate and personable. It felt like we were spending a few hours with a good friend. We would definitely do this tour again the next time we are in Athens.

Delicious Greek food! We did the tour on the day we arrived in Athens and it did not disappoint. Large variety of Greek food and drink to try. Rachael was great at accommodating us as I am pregnant and can’t drink right now and my partner is pescatarian but there were plenty of options for us. Rachael was easy to communicate with and very welcoming to Athens.

This was a great way to see Athens and enjoy its traditional food. We loved that we visited places and ate food that we would never have been able to try on our own. From being able to try the sweetest grapes to enjoying a lavish sit down meal at the market, it was a great experience and I would recommend it 100%!

From greek salad, olives, zucchini balls, anchovies, sausage, fresh fruit, gyros and more. You won’t leave hungry or sober lol. Def book this tour direct and don’t think twice. Amazing tour! Mike was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. We were able to sample a wide variety of foods and flavors from many unique stores and restaurants. It was the perfect amount of food over perfect amount of time – not too much food/time, not too little. I would highly recommend Tour around Athens as your food tour of choice.

We had a great tour this morning with Michael. he was so friendly and knowledgeable, putting all three of us at ease right away. We got to sample bougatsa and spanakopita to start off the day. He especially took us to small family owned businesses that support the community, which we really appreciated. Hearing the stories behind how the food is made, and where it is grown is the kind of thing you can’t discover on your own. We sampled olive oil, cheese and cured meat from several different shops that have been owned in one family for generations. One of the highlights for me was also sampling a variety of different honeys, all collected from different locations by the same family company, who move their bees around to follow whatever flowers or saps are in season. The necessary coffee break was taken with some good education on coffee in Greece. We also tried a variety of olives, some fresh feta made in the shop, then, had a great walk-through the meat and fish markets, stopping to have some freshly grilled chicken skewers. We toured a spice shop, stopping to smell a number of different dried herbs, and learned how one wall was devoted to medicinal herbs and teas. We sampled some nuts and tangerines, which were in season. We finished up by having a beautiful lunch of mezze and ouzo. We have already returned to some of the shops to make purchases, and plan to do more in the coming days. I highly recommend this tour and found it very much worth the cost. Even though it was a bit of a splurge for us, I would do it again without question.
