Moderate trail with a fair amount of stairs. We aren't expert hikers and everyone made it up and back without any whining. Lots of nice views from the top. Only accessible by boat or the boat shuttle from the fairfield bay marina which runs every 2 hours til 4pm. Believe it's $15 for adults $10 for kids takes about 15-20 minutes. Nice hike with some great views

Absolutely stunning views if you make it to the top! Mule Trail is quite the treck and not an easy one! Totally worth it! Love the scenic boat ride to and from the mountain. Lovely shop at the marina as well, with a lovely staff. Always a destination every summer. Don't forget to feed the fish at the marina as well!

Sugar Loaf Mountain was a fun place to visit and hike at. We took a short boat ride over there and hiked to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain. The trail was steep in a couple places but shady and overall very nice. The trail is well-marked and a couple benches to take a break at. Gorgeous views at different lookout points and at the top. The island is in Greers Ferry Lake and the lake is very long. Great vantage point from the top to see other portions of the lake. We caught the last trip out there and only had two hours to explore the island. Two hours was enough to hike to the top and explore part of the other trails and still get back to the dock for the last boat ride back. If you want to explore more make sure you have at least four hours and bring plenty of water and some snacks along.

We LOVED this trail. I am out of shape but did make it to the top. Kids had no problem running all the way to the top! It was so extremely cool to be the only people on the island! It's a very picturesque walk and I loved the added benches for rest! The view from the top is incredible! We took a shuttle and it was a very nice boat ride! Highly recommend as this is as definitely do NOT miss stop! A highlight of our trip!

Great hike up the mountain. We didn't realize where the loop was until we were on our way back. The split is at the big sign with the map after you've hiked a little while. The path that is more clear at the sign is Mule Trail which has a lot of stairs.

Beautiful place! The view at the top is Gorgeous! Going up was somewhat difficult in places. Coming back down was easy, peasy. Take plenty of water and a good pair of hiking shoes. Take time to rest on your hike up, too. The shuttle ride over from Fairfield Bay Marina ($13.95 per adult) was very nice and relaxing, very kind people at the marina.

We hiked this trail today and it was very hot and humid. We took lots of water. Scenery was gorgeous! Trail was well maintained. Lots of steep steps toward the top. A great trail if you feel like some physical exertion! 10 minute boat trip to mountain from marina. Highly recommend!

We chose to do Sugarloaf Mountain trail which requires contacting the marina for a boat ride to the island. (2 hours total hike and the boat ride is $13 for adults/ $9 for children under 12/ free for 2& under @ Fairfield Bay Marina) You can take your own water craft. The trail can/could be a little treacherous for the hiking hobbyists but for a skilled hiker it is just enough. Not a long hike but the views are fantastic. There are steep narrow steps towards the end just before the views open up. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. There are two trails- a lower loop (easy) and an up and back trail (moderate).
