This is the largest university in asia. I was surprised when I saw the campus which was too wide. There is one replica of kashi vishwanath which is amazing.

It's an iconic place of Varanasi. But please avoid it from 7A.M to 8P.M as there is huge traffic jam on this chowk. The connectivity is amazing from here you can hire autos for all four directions. A lot of food cafes and other joints are available here. Being the main of gate of BHU, Varanasi this place is very famous among all the students and tourists.

I went there at evening to visit the vishwanath temple inside the BHU Campus, and it was very peaceful and quiet. You should visit BHU gate and the temple inside it's campus if u are visiting varanasi. There are a lot of greenary and you can try the cold coffee as well in the campus. Overall, it's a must visit place in varanasi.

The gate is really beautiful as it is the main gate of the BHU Main campus however it is so very crowded. Since it's a main road too, public and private vehicles are in extreme numbers in this area specifically.

The university's main campus, spread over 1,370 acres (5.5 km2), was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh Prabhu Narayan Singh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras ("Kashi" being an alternative name for Banaras or Varanasi). The south campus, spread over 2,700 acres (11 km2) is built on land donated later by Maharaj Kumar Aditya Narayan Singh in Sunderpur,[17] hosts the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agriculture Science Centre)[18] and is located in Barkachha in Mirzapur district, about 60 km (37 mi) from Varanasi. BHU is organized into six institutes, 14 faculties (streams) and about 140 departments. As of 2020, the total student enrolment at the university is 30,698 coming from 48 countries. It has over 65 hostels for resident students. Several of its faculties and institutes include Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management Studies, Science, Performing Arts, Law, Agricultural Science, Medical Science, and Environment and Sustainable Development along with departments of Linguistics, Journalism & Mass Communication, among others. The university's engineering institute was designated as an Indian Institute of Technology in June 2012, and henceforth is Indian Institute of Technology (BHU). Centralised in 1916 through the Banaras Hindu University Act, Banaras Hindu University is India's first central university. BHU celebrated its centenary year in 2015โ€“2016. The Banaras Hindu University was jointly established by Madan Mohan Malaviya, Annie Besant, Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga Raj and Prabhu Narayan Singh and Aditya Narayan Singh of Narayan dynasty, while the university is the brainchild of Malviya.

It is the main entrance of Banaras Hindu University. It is a very busy and hectic place as it is where four roads meet . It is well connected to places like Mughalsarai , Varanasi junction through auto and bus services. From here , you can go to various temples. It has some good restaurants, various shops and hotels. The gate is always decorated with lights during festivals. It has the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.

BHU lanka gate is a very famous locality as it has a vast market comprising all the necessary items from food (both fine dine and street). Clothes, branded and local etc. There is a good connectivity between railway station and this place. The jostle of this place is mostly because of students of BHU. One can easily connect here from Assi ghat which is again a famous place of Varanasi.

If you are from BHU, you know that feeling of coming home away from home. If you are not from BHU, you still love the atmosphere, the century old buildings, greenery and of course the vibe.

Banaras Hindu University has been a central part of Varanasi's identity since its inception in 1916. The well-respected public university is home to more than 25,000 students, making it one of Asia's largest residential universities. There are no hill stations near Varanasi, so if you're looking for an escape from the crowds and busy city, come to this lush 1,300-acre campus. The serene area is shaded by hundreds of tall trees and offers a breath of fresh air from the hectic atmosphere at theย Banaras Ghats.
