Hands down top Venezuelan food with run by a very friendly family. We ordered some Empanadas, Arepitas, Pabellion and Maltin. Everything was made per hand and tasted amazingly. This is an absolute recommendation on my side if you're a fan of trying something new in Rome!

The food is amazing, just be prepared to wait for a table if you want to eat in, as it only has around seating for 12 people on high bench seats but well worth the wait. The food actually comes out as it looks in the menus pictures. Even though they are mega busy they don't rush you when it's your turn. Will also talk through the menu if needed. Only drops a star on atmosphere as it's very snug.

If you want something different in Rome, you have to come to this Venezuelan street food restaurant. I’m from New York and had great authentic Venezuelan food but this was better than anything I ever had, and it’s in Rome!! Definitely get the tostones and the beef cachapas with cheese.

Best food I have had in Rome. Delicious patacon. Reminded me of home. Great service--staff noticed I had sauce dripping down my hands & brought me napkins!

THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Best part of my trip hands down. The patacón especial and the pabellón were ADDICTIVE. This is a must if you like latin food.

A nice place, kind and friendly staff, quality food. I would return a thousand times I loved it I felt at home , What I liked the most was that the waiting time was not long, the place is near the Vatican, very well located, really ,I went because a friend recommended it to me and it was really worth the 5-hour trip to eat such delicious food. Thank you very much for your attention. I had an amazing time.

We ate after our visit in Vatican museum as its really close to. Friendly service and really tasty food in good prices for such an ethnic cuisine. The meat was of good quality. I truly advice.

The most delicious Venezuelan food I've had in my life -although, sadly, I've never had Venezuelan Food in Venezuela :( . As usual, my family and I tried a little bit of everything. It was all very savory. In the evenings it's a lot less crowded so maybe that's the best time to go to avoid the crowds and get super fast friendly service. The owners and rest of the family are very kind, accommodating, and welcoming. Was able to speak English too, which is always a plus. And, they also had Malta, which is not easy to find, even in the USA, let alone Italy. We'll definitely be coming back. If you've never had Venezuelan food, you're missing out!

We ate here twice! Fabulous food and the fact it is all gluten free is a huge bonus for my celiac spouse. The arepas were the best I have ever had. Service was incredibly nice. I love Italian food but this was a huge treat and honestly the best food we had in a week in Rome. Highly recommended and worth the easy walk.

Small street food bar but with delicious food and great service! Also reasonably priced. If you want to taste amazing and authentic Venusuelan street food in Rome this is the place to go! The arepas are definitely worth trying as well as the tostones.

Do you know Venezuelan food? I didn't. So i tried. And it was really good. It's a small place so you might take away but it's worth it. If you like corn, beans, pulled meat and banana that's your place

Lets talk about it! Can this restaurant expand and have locations all over the world! While visiting Rome, I wanted to try different foods other than what Rome is know for(sorry Rome) and this place came up. Cozy place, hidden gem, that has amazing food. You can tell that the family behind this place put their heart and soul into everything. They are kind, helpful, teaches you about what you are eating and helps you make the right choice on what fits your taste palate. This is my first time having Venezuelan food and I am hooked! The empandas oh my gosh, amazing! The bread is like a cornbread with a subtle sweetness and then the spices and seasonings of the chicken. Wow! And then I took it a step further and order a side of guac to dip the empanda, amazing! I enjoyed the food here, and I came back again before I left Rome. I would have came everyday, if we would have stayed closer to the restuarunt. Those with me had aerpas and they were a good size. My family loved them, I wish I had a chance to try them, because my family did not share lol! Prices were good! Capriso chatted with us and made us feel like we were at home! You have to stop in and try this food. Its fresh ingredients and authentic Venezuelan food.

Amazing gluten free food! So nice to be able to eat anything off the menu 😁 the place is small, but cozy. One of the best gluten free restaurants I've been to. The food is cooked perfectly 🤘

Delicious arepas and patacon. I had a pabellon and a sifrina. The pabellon with shredded beef was much better than the sifrina with shredded chicken, but both were delicious. If the shredded cheese had been melted and the arepa toasted, it would have been perfect. Everything about the patacon was on point. The ingredients themselves were super tasty all around. My mango juice was also so yummy, pulpy, and fresh. I think it's a little pricey for the portion size, but for the quality, location, and lack of other venezuelan food on par in Rome, I think it's decent. Employees were quick to accommodate us for seating once some other customers left. There are maybe 12 stools with bar seating along the walls, so I wouldn't count on having a place to sit and eat. There is not a bathroom you can use either.

El Maìz is amazing and was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Rome. The entire menu is now gluten free which is perfect for me, being a coeliac. The arrepas were so soft and flavourful, and the plantain chips were to die for - definitely order these if you visit! The member of staff we spoke with was friendly and really helpful. I'm so glad we popped in here for lunch, I'd go back to Rome just for this place I think!!

Delicious food and juice. Nice break from Italian food. Very friendly and happy owner/waiter. We truly felt welcome there and had a great meal for a good price. Thank you!

We stopped here after our visit to Vatican City. We ordered Patacon (shredded chicken, avocado, cheese and coleslaw in between crispy plantains kind of like a burger) and Empanada (hot with melted cheese and beans) - the best thing was everything was tasting very nice and served with a smile. I wanted to try their Arepas and Tostones as well they looked really appealing! I’ve been looking for good Patacons in California but haven’t been lucky to find one - sure was pleasantly surprised to find a really good place on our trip to Rome! Grazie El Maiz :)

My first venezuelan food! A place with vegan options. The plantain is to die for. The cornbread is good! The owners are super friendly and was able to adapt to my vegan preference. A great place after a visit on the Vatican city.

Delicious, easy, fast! Highly recommend. The fresh juices are so refreshing on a hot summer day and there is never a bad time for an arepa or patacón. It is a street food place, but there are high tables for you to enjoy your meal inside too.

Excellent Venezuelan cuisine in Rome. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem on my family's visit to Rome. I give it two thumbs up 👍 👍

I went to Rome for vacations and visited this place 3 times. The offer such a varied latin menu including fruit juice. Everything so delicious. The only reason to take one star is that there is no toilet service.

Amazing and authentic Venezuelan food. I particularly liked the tostones with carne mechada (the meat was very tender and flavorful), the cachapa was made with fresh corn and very tasty. Also the guava juice felt fresh and delicious. I wish they would open in other locations too!

Ordered the pabellón which was AMAZING! It was seasoned perfectly and the portion was fair. The 1 star for atmosphere is due to lack of space for dining in. I consider it more of a to-go spot but I had walked there so I stayed to dine in. Spent about 15€ for the meal without a drink.

Cute little restaurant with delicious Venezuelan food, tasty beverages and amazing service! After 2 days in Rome, we decided to try something different from Italian food and didn’t regret it! The arepa Reina Pepiada and the cachapa were absolutely perfect 🤩 highly recommended by a Venezuelan living abroad ❤️

So, I was looking for gluten-free restaurants in Rome when I came across El Maiz. Pure chance and desire to try out Venezuelan food brought me in a small, yet cozy, place in the middle of Rome. Run by a true Venezuelan family, its food is mouth-watering and abundant - I ordered a piece of each category of dishes on their menu and I couldn't manage to eat it all in one go. It's not only tasty due to the expertise they have on their native cuisine but also because of the passion they put into making every dish. At El Maiz, it's not about just food: it is a matter of family and exquisite culinary tradition. Go there asap and you'll wish you had known them a long time ago. PS: they treat you as family the very moment you get in, chatting with you and sharing nice stories about their traditions.

Delicious food for fair prices. I love pasta and pizza but living in Rome also makes you want to try other cuisines once in a while. This is the perfect place to try some amazing Venezuelan food 🤤

We went there after we visited the Vatican City. Really nice experience, authentic Venezuelan area. Fresh ingredients and really friendly staff. Definitely give it a try if you are about. The food is cheap and excellent, the beer is around 5 euro.

Amazing food! It is absolutely delicious, the owner and staff are friendly and welcoming. It is a must when visiting Rome. The empanadas are to die for, and the arepas are just succulent, and the tajadas oh man! I miss this kind of fun and being here just reminds me a bit of home.

My wife and I ate dinner here one night after our tour of the Vatican Museum, as an alternative to all the Italian food we had been eating. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I went with their recommendation (an arepa with meat, black beans, cheese and plantain, and tostones - fried plantain with meat and guacamole, and a homemade red berry drink), and it was delicious. I was glad we went and would recommend if you are near the Vatican and/or you want to try something other than Italian.

This was the first time I had arepas or any sort of Venezuelan food before, but this was definitely one of the tastiest things I've ever put in my mouth. The owner was a really nice and cool guy to chat up with as well. As a bonus they also got wifi and nice AC indoors, as well as Super well-refigerated cold drinks.

La reina pepiada is another level of taste! Took my Swedish boyfriend here and he absolutely loved it! Empanadas are great, feeling like home! Also great guasacaca.

Good food (I especially liked the plantains) and nice staff. Vegan/vegetarian options available. The restaurant was clean and there was indoor/outdoor seating. Wifi available. I wish the bathrooms were accessible to the public, because I needed to wash my hands before eating.
