One of the stops to make in the Vatican Museums is the Pio Clementino Museum, which was inaugurated by Pope Clement XIV in the second half of the 18th century, to contain ancient classical statues, several copies of Greek originals. The Museum is made up of twelve places including Halls, Galleries and the Ottagono courtyard with its various spaces containing important statues of ancient Rome. Among the works present I would like to point out: the Sarcophagus of Scipione Barbato (Consul in 290 BC), the cabinet of the Apollo of the Belvedere from the homonymous Roman statue (2.2 m high) from the 2nd century AD, copy of a Greek bronze original, in Octagon Courtyard the Laocoon cabinet from the marble group of the same name from 40-30 BC. (h 2.1 m), due to its beauty it was also the inspiration for the works of Michelangelo, the Hall of Animals, divided into two parts, where dozens of animals are reproduced in marble, so much so that it can be nicknamed the "stone zoo" , there are also mosaic works depicting animals such as that of the Bull attacked by a Lion (30-20th century BC), the Hall of the Muses where the most valuable one is placed in the center, the Belvedere Torso, the work in white marble , approximately 1.3 meters high, is from the 1st century BC, it is a copy of a Greek bronze work from the 2nd century BC, and many others, it is impossible to list. Overall, it is the largest exhibition in the Vatican Museums, definitely a place worth visiting.

I would tell any friend visiting Rome to just avoid the museum and the Sistine Chapel. While I’m sure there are nice things in these venues there is no way to enjoy them. The museum and the Chapel prioritize revenue over real culture sharing. It isn’t even peak tourist season but it was an absolute cattle herding experience. There are no filters on letting huge volumes of people into these buildings. We could never stop walking because the crowds of people have to keep moving, you miss seeing actual museum exhibits inside and your body is stiff like a board after slowly shuffling your legs for 2 hours straight. What a miserable experience. There is plenty of other amazing things and culture to see in Italy so if you’re in Rome for only a few days I personally wouldn’t waste half of it seeing these livestock herding experiences.

During my recent visit to the Pio-Clementino Museum in the Vatican Museums, I was struck by the richness of its collections and the majesty of the works on display. The Chiaramonti Gallery welcomed me with a vast collection of ancient sculptures, including the famous Laocoön and his sons, a work that aroused deep emotions thanks to the drama of the sculpted expressions. In the Round Room, I admired the magnificence of the Belvedere Apollo statue, a classical sculpture that embodies the Greek ideal of beauty. The Hall of the Muses featured a series of statues inspired by the nine muses of antiquity, each with astonishing detail. The Courtyard of the Belvedere provided an evocative setting with its statues and monuments, including the statue of the Dying Gaul, representing a dying Celtic warrior. This picturesque courtyard added a scenic dimension to my experience. The Octagon Courtyard, with its evocative atmosphere, exhibited the famous sculpture of the Laocoön, whose anatomical complexity and drama made the visit even more memorable. Overall, the Pio-Clementino Museum was a fascinating journey into the world of classical art, enriched by works that convey the exceptional mastery of the artists of antiquity.

Great museum. These galleries contain such a wealth of magnificent and significant pieces that even a list of the highlights is a long one. In the Sala a Croce Greca, don't miss the red porphyry sarcophagi of Constantine's daughter, Constantia, and his mother, St. Helen, both richly decorated with figures and symbols. In the Sala delle Muse look for Belvedere Torso, a first-century-BC work by Apollonius of Athens that was admired by Michelangelo.

(Translated by Google) It is the museum par excellence from which the real visit begins and which collects precious testimonies, from the octagonal courtyard to the Quadrato vestibule, from the animal room to the cabinet of masks (not included in the free tours), from the room of the muses to that of the Viganò to Michelangelo's round one, in addition to the Greek cross room (with the important sarcophagi) and the gallery of candelabra. The torso of the Belvedere is the host together with the antoo. Look at the photos and videos and other reviews on museums and Rome that I did.

In essence, a concentration of artistic creativity at a maximum level for human civilization. Impressive. It has no equal in number of exhibits and their relevance. The package visit with the other museums allows only a run and a superficial viewing of the exhibits.

When in Rome, enjoy the most famous landmarks in the world (They have many of those, in Rome, obviously). That is exactly what we did and Pio-Clementine Museum was one of them (a superb display of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures).

Too much to see and too much to digest. Security is very tight and crowded when I visited in Aug. 2019. Tour guides are available but need to book outside the museum. Book your ticket from Vatican website in advance as tickets are restricted.

Like every corner of the Vatican museums, in each room you can see what is different, but in common one of the largest collections of sculptures, frescoes and paintings in the world from many cultures.

Part of the Vatican Museums and this is a hall that consists of Greek and Roman sculptures and figures. Amazing carvings and artwork are everywhere. The whole place is simply mind blowing and beautiful. Was crowded when we went as it was peak hours. Worth taking a trip and stopping to view these. Highly recommend!

Some of the most beautiful places and art pieces I have seen in my life. The guided tour was a faster way to gain entry but it was a rush through all the sights. If one went on their own the line up for this/the surrounding sights were hideously long wrapping around the block (as we saw it and the guide told us as they pointed it out). I wish I could have spent longer in there to truly appreciate it. It's very stunning.

Huge area with stunning works. Booked a tour directly with the Vatican and would recommend doing it in advance.

Very nice museum to visit with a very nice collection! On the other hand, too many people, unbearable guided tour groups who stop anywhere. For the Sistine Chapel, the faster you move the better it will be for the guards

It's very difficult to actually see anything in this exhibition. The amount of people thronging these short corridors on their way to the Sistine Chapel make it seem like you got stuck in a procession. The air is damp and smelly and the noise impossible. There are clearly too many guided tours; they are the main reason you get dragged along at a slow pace and the view to some exhibits is constantly blocked. Whoever manages these museums favours profits in a way that shows little respect for the works of art in their care. (I also wish people who have little interest in art found something better to in Rome than paying for some tour so they can lazily cross the Sistine Chapel out of their bucket list. A lot of those people on the tours barely register anything, they could just as well be plodding through a shopping mall.) The grade is obviously for the terrible experience and not for the museum itself which houses timeless masterpieces.
