Beautiful ancient location. We loved walking there during evening. I do not suggest to visit there at noon time which is really hot. For those who are used to Chennai heat, is not an issue. We particularly loved the street foods near the temple.

One of the oldest and most beautiful rock cut architectural marvel of India. The monument is absolutely stunning with ingenious Dravidian architecture. There are also traces of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Buddhist influences in the designs of the temple. Although, its the crowd that doesn’t seem to understand the historical beauty and behave like they own the place.

I Visited Shore Temple and Mahabalipuram in 2018 and it was an awesome experience. The place was crowded with tourists. A big applause to the authorities and the government to maintain the place in the best possible way. The Shore Temple (built in 700–728 AD) is so named because it overlooks the shore of the Bay of Bengal. It is a structural temple, built with blocks of granite, dating from the 8th century AD. Shore Temple, complex of elegant shrines, one among a number of Hindu monuments at Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram), on the Coromandel Coast of Tamil Nadu state, India. It is considered the finest early example of medieval southern Indian temple architecture. Unlike most of its neighbours at the site, it is built of cut stones rather than carved out of caves. It has two shrines, one dedicated to Shiva and the other to Vishnu. Its style is characterized by a pyramidal kutina-type tower that consists of stepped stories topped by a cupola and finial, a form quite different from the northern Indian sikhara. The Mamallapuram monuments and temples, including the Shore Temple complex, were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. A must visit place.. Recommended 5 Star 🌟🤩 One of the best site in South India.. Jai Hind Jai Bharat 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Proud to be Indian 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Beautiful place. Food plaza nearby. Ticket counter outside the temple. The sea sight is amazing. You can ride a horse and camel on the shore side. Overall a clean and picturesque place.

It was ultimate time to visit shore tample of Mahabalipuram and make some great memories.. A bit crowded on Sunday and Govt holidays. It is the historical temple famous for its very old stone work. Very famous tourist place not only for Indians but also for International visitors. It's one of the greatest arts and cultures of ancient India....

It's buzzing busy here as we get tickets which cover 3 tourist spots. Street vendors, food stalls, toy stalls and more. The temple itself is guarded and the lights make it LIT after 6pm. The shore is lovely to watch in the evening and the air is good. The only problem is the parking and paying 80 for nothing. You can also find guides. It's 400 for foreigners and 30 for locals.

The Mahabalipuram Shore Temple is a mesmerizing architectural marvel that stands proudly on the Coromandel Coast. Its intricate carvings, dating back to the 8th century, tell stories of ancient artistry and cultural richness. The temple's location by the Bay of Bengal enhances its charm, offering breathtaking views during sunrise and sunset. The well-preserved structure, a UNESCO World Heritage site, allows visitors to step back in time and appreciate the historical significance of this sacred site. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a serene coastal experience.

The Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram is a mesmerizing testament to ancient architecture, gracefully standing along the shores. Its beauty is timeless, showcasing intricate designs that captivate visitors. The temple premises are commendably well-maintained, offering a serene environment for exploration. Photography enthusiasts will find ample opportunities to capture the temple's splendor. However, accessing the site can be challenging, with cumbersome parking outside and a narrow road prone to blockages by heavy vehicles like tourist buses. Visitors should be prepared for intense afternoon heat, bringing hats and sunglasses. An umbrella may be useful, though occasional sea breezes provide relief. Despite these considerations, the Shore Temple is undeniably worth a visit, offering a blend of history, architectural marvel, and coastal charm.

. Great place to catch the sunrise. It overlooks the beach which is walking distance from here. The beach has clear waters. The temple is of Siva and has various ancient rock carvings around it. Ample parking space, clean washrooms etc are available.

To be honest, I think mahaballipuram and the monuments are bit overrated. I believe Tanjore, madurai and chidambaram temples are way better in art and architecture in Tamilnadu. About the place : It costs you Rs. 40 / ticket to visit all the monuments in mahaballipuram, incase of a foreigner it's Rs. 600. Lot of street shopping options are available. I would definitely recommend you to shop here. 💯 The place is not clean in the outside of the shore temple😐. However it's good in the inside. The beaches are so untidy near the shore temple. Please go visit some other beaches in ECR if you are looking to spend some beach time 😁 You can visit once, Just for the hype. Also if you are going by car, you have pay Rs.75 for the town panchayat/municipality for entry and parking. Note : free parking space available in all spaces(included in rs. 75). However there are private PAID parking is also available.

*** Mind Blowing Monument*** The temple has three shrines and all are built on the same platform. Viewed from the northern end, the temples appear to be a replica of the Dharmaraja Ratha (Reviewed separately). The main deity of first & second Temples is Lord Shiva (in Linga form) faces East. The two are a five-storied structural temple and not a rock-cut (Many other Mahabalipuram Temples are ). The two Shiva shrines are orthogonal. The temple walls have large sculptures of Nandi. This pyramidal structure is 60 feet high and sits on a 50 feet square platform. There is a small temple in front. That too is made of finely cut local granite. The recent excavations have revealed new structures under the sand. The third shrine is of reclining Vishnu and have water channelled entering the shrine. There are many open areas (Clear in our Photos) and lot of interesting sculptors! Worth a place, to see in detail. There are many photo shoots happening here. Very close to the sea. The Garden, nearby Antique Shop, Paid Toilet, etc. are clean & Neat. Very close is Thriu Valluvar Statue – On the narrow Road leading to the Statue and the Beach, there are many eateries and Petty shops – Be careful in dealing, please. Very interesting details are available in Wiki

The Shore Temple (built in 700–728 AD by pallav king Narsimhavarman II) is so named because it overlooks the shore of the Bay of Bengal. As one of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. It is one of the oldest structural (versus rock-cut) stone temples of South India. Behind the shore temple, bay of bengal lies. It must be in you travelling list. Must visited place in Mahabalipuram.

One of the oldest temple of South India located just near the sea beach. The location has been classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The location has a very big area with gardens all around and Shore Temple located at the end, just adjacent to the sea beach. In order to visit the location you need to purchase a ticket and the same ticket can be used to visit other locations like Krishna Butter ball, etc.

It's a rock temple, you can't go inside the temple exactly but you can roam outside of it. It's just besides a beach but you can't go to beach from inside the temple area. It's just peaceful to sit inside but it's very crowded. One issue we found is that no North Indian restaurants nearby and the South Indian restaurants were also too much crowded.

The temple premise is well maintained. Can take some beautiful pictures from here. The parking on the outside is cumbersome as you will have to hunt for the parking space by yourself. The road is narrow too which often gets blocked by heavy vehicles such as tourist buses. In the afternoon, it'll be scorching hot. So, make sure you bring your hats and sunglasses. An umbrella is also advisable, but since the temple is located beside the sea shore, you can expect some occasional winds.

I had an incredible experience visiting Mahabalipuram! The ancient stone carvings and sculptures left me in awe of the artistic and architectural prowess of the past. The Shore Temple, with its breathtaking ocean backdrop, was a true masterpiece. The town's relaxed vibe and proximity to the beach made it a perfect getaway. I highly recommend visiting Mahabalipuram for a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Entering the premises of the Shore Temple was grandeur, as I walk closer and closer to the temple, while being hit by the sea breeze. As I stood before the two Shiva shrines, each facing different cardinal points, I marvelled at the precision of the intricate carvings and sculptures that adorned every inch of the temple. The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore added a serene backdrop to this historical marvel. On the outer walls of the Shore Temple are Nandi figures. The artists of the Shore Temple were given creative freedom to carve their representations of the figures. By the border of the temple premise, numerous shops of handmade collections add to the experience, creating a lively atmosphere.

The temple is said to have built around 700AD. It's constructed facing the sea and hence the name shore temple. The structure is surrounded by a massive lawn, which is neatly kept and well maintained. However, visitors aren't allowed to sit or walk on these lawns for which they have paved paths. The place is serene and beautiful and is also one of the classified UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It's best to visit during the morning or evening time. Afternoons can be really tiring as there aren't any shades to keep you safe from the scorching sun. This is the kind of a place where you may want to go, relax and let yourself go to get awestruck by the sheer architectural brilliance.

Very pleasant place and good landscape(Renovated for Modi’s visit). Shore temple closes at 6pm(During some weekend they will be open till 6:30-7pm) For all tourist- Don’t by separate tickets at shore temple and Butter ball, one ticket covers all places(Check the backside of Ticket for details) Mode of transport- Mahabalipuram is not a big place, I suggest one can cover all places by foot. Else you can take an Auto.

The Shore Temple lies in front of the Bay of Bengal, hence it is known by the name mentioned. Dating back to the 8th century AD, the structured temple is made out of granite chunks. The temple was constructed in such a way that it would overlook the Bay of Bengal at a Southern Chennai village called Mahabalipuram. The village was a busy port during the reign of Narasimhavarman II of the Pallava dynasty. Best Time to Visit: October to March Entry Fees : INR 250 for Foreigners and INR 10 for Indians

Imagine the glory of this place with 7 pagodas. Still has not lost its glory but lost a lot of history. Must visit.

A UNESCO Heritage site on the shores of Bay of Bengal with this beautiful 1300yrs old temple of Pallavas is a treat for any tourist- history lovers, mystery lovers, religious folks you name any. There are many enchanting stories about the temple & it’s history as well as the architecture is marvellous. It’s better to go in rains or December/ January as it’s very hot otherwise. There are small shops only around it in the small town, entrance ticket priced for Indians at Rs 35. It’s got excellent connectivity from Chennai along East coast highway, the trip being a treat in itself. The beach is just in front of the temple though the route to it is along the road next to temple. Ample parking but very crowded during weekends

This temple is stunning and located near the sea shore. The ancient architecture and the sea view compliment each other so well. This temple has a marvelous architecture. This is a UNESCO Heritage site, and maintained very nicely. The sea beach also very clean and well maintained. Enough parking space available but bit crowded during weekends.

Absolutely one of the most "Relaxing and recreation stop to be visited". It's beauty of construction and the tech of that time can be reflected there, also we get to see many other things along that it's called shore temple bcz "it's near a shore" and the beach is also a good stop to relax.

One of the three temples built by the Cholas, Shore temple is a UNESCO heritage site. A true monument of history and architecture. It represents the glory of Chola dynasty and an amazing sight to witness. The only recommendation is to visit during early morning. The temple is on the shore of Bay of Bengal and the sunrise is going to give the best sight ever. For art and history enthusiasts, this is a unavoidable place to visit and it’s going to worth every second spent. Make sure to take an umbrella or hat during day visit. The temperature is unbearable. The ticket price is 40 per person.

This temple is more like a ruin. There is no god in the temple. Beautiful architecture. You have to buy tickets around 50 m away from the temple. Visit at night as the temple looks even more splendid because of the lights. You can see mahabalipuram beach from here. There is also a huge shopping area nearby.

The Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram is a breathtaking masterpiece of ancient architecture and a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage site, with its awe-inspiring Dravidian design, stands as a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of its time. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, is beautifully set against the backdrop of the Bay of Bengal. It's especially magical during sunrise or sunset when the golden rays illuminate the intricately carved sculptures and the crashing waves provide a serene soundtrack. Exploring the temple complex is a journey into history, with its ornate carvings depicting mythological stories and scenes from daily life. The Pallava dynasty's dedication to art and religion is palpable here.
