I was excited to try this place with my middle eastern mother who was looking for good fish in the West island. Everything was very fresh but it lacked the restaurant ambiance. We called ahead to reserve a table, we came in and sat down quickly. To order you have to go to the fish area to choose your fish and place your order at the counter, there is no menu except online. It was our first time so we ordered a bunch of plates from the menu. I later saw that no one else was ordering like that. Most people were ordering whichever fish they wanted and then shared fries, rice, salads, etc.....the price was extremely reasonable. The calamari was probably the freshest and best I ever had, the fish n chips aren't at all pub style fish and chips, more like deep fried pieces of fish, you can choose from Basa Basa, halibut, code and sole. Again, everything was very fresh. I would go again but I would order differently. Almost all our plates wether it was french fries, fish, calamrie, rice, shrimp all had the same spices on them making everything taste similarly, I found that a little boring. A pitcher of water was placed on our table but ordering and paying for everything is done at the main counter, all our waitress did was bring the food to us, never asked if we wanted anything, not even water. I was curious to see if they would ask for tip, they did, not sure about the etiquette for that..

It's our first time ordering from Restaurant Le Canal. I've been seeing people go in and out of this restaurant and I wanted to try their food for a while now. I ordered for take-out and the little time I was in the restaurant, I was greeted by the lady at the cash with a nice warm smile and she was very kind & polite. We ordered the Grilled Sea Bass (it comes with rice & salad) and the Octopus Salad. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT MY MOM LOVED LOVED LOVED THEIR FOOD (she's very picky when it comes to food from restaurants since she is an EXPERIENCED chef), but she was the one who told me to give them THE BEST RATING possible and to do it right away because THEY DESERVE IT!!! 🌟 The salad with the Sea Bass was DELICIOUS!!! The fish was grilled to PREFECTION and the Octopus Salad was out OF THIS WORLD 🌎 (it even had some herbs and sesame seeds in it which is a great surprise)!!! 😁 Although the place was PACKED (pretty sure it's because of the GREAT quality of their food), they OVER DELIVER!!! Also, the cost of their food is UNBEATABLE!!! DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone looking for an AMAZING SEAFOOD restaurant. We will definitely come back for more!!! My 4th time at the family run Le Canal, always fresh. Had fried red snapper, oysters and Sea Bass. I was very impressed by the fries! Without doubt, Best fries I had in Montreal ! Crispy paprika amazing ! Busy place, very good service. I was happy. Highly recommended in west Island.

We frequent this place. Really good food, I love everything so far, one thing that I would change is putting more care into whole frying some fish, as they over cooked my red snapper and the meat was hard and dry on the top and bottom where the fish is thinner. Otherwise 10/10 The mussels are a bit small but delicious Spicy grilled shrimp is a must try! Very good resto

This restaurant has the most fresh seafood, you can literally pick your choice of fish or seafood at the fish display counter. The restaurant is clean, I ordered the whole fish entree which was the most tender and flaky grilled fish ever and the seasoning was perfect, as well as the crispy exterior, and the house salad was so flavourful. everything on menu is great value for the quality you get. The owner and staff is so nice and attentive as well, if I lived nearby I'd be a regular.

I tried this place out as a friend of mine recommended it. It’s a family business which is amazing. I ordered a red snapper grilled, fried tiger shrimps, shrimps, syadyeh rice, potato wedges and salad. The salad, tiger shrimps and everything was very flavourful, their pricing is amazing and incomparable to elsewhere! Would absolutely recommend and the son of the owner is so sweet.

I ordered a lobster tail, 6 shrimps, 6 scallops with salad and fries. Everything was fresh and delicious and excellent service.

First time here and definitely won’t be the last! I tried the Spicy grilled tiger shrimps, fried shrimps, mussels, calamari, sea bass and house salad. They were all fresh and delicious. The best part of this place that it’s a fish market. You choose what you want, how many you want (yes, even the calamari) and ask them to cook it the way you want, whether it’s fried, grilled, sautéed, mild, spicy, etc. Only downside, is that the dining room is at the fish market and with an open concept kitchen, chances are that your clothes will go straight in the laundry afterwards. Even with that, I will definitely return and bring more people with me for delicious fish and sea food!

This place is amazing! We are regular customers and we are always impressed by the quality of food and service but this time we had guests over from Toronto during Christmas and they tried Le Canal at our place before so this time they asked for it again. We said lets do dine in on Christmas day and man they didn't disappoint! Everything was great, service and food were impeccable. They have added new items to the menu and everything we tried was delicious! I didn't even get a chance to takr photos of all the food we tried, everyone was super excited to eat once the plates were ready. Definitely a returning a customer.

I read reviews about Canal for the past while and how good it is so we decided to try it out for the first time Saturday evening. We were four and had 6:30 reservations. No alcohol is sold at this restaurant and it isn't BYO either and not having asked any questions when we called, it was a surprise but still not in any way a deterrent so be aware of it is all. We were sat down and not knowing the procedure waited for around 10 minutes without any service or bread 🍞 brought to the table. So we asked people sitting beside us what is the story and they said customers stand up and go to the fish counter and order what they want, get a number , and wait for it to be brought to be the table. We had a side order of salad, a side order of fries, 2 orders of mussels, an order of the salmon plate, and an order of the fish and chips plate. The fish and chip plate has options of cod, halibut, or talapia. The cod was chosen. One can ask for half fries and half rice with the plate rather than the one accompaniment. Although the ambiance is not restaurant style but rather somewhat cafeteria do not dismiss this excellent dining experience. Every plate and side was fresh, tasty, delicious, and packed. The sauce for the mussels was flavourful and just the right amount of spice. We all wished we had a nice baguette to dip in it and wipe it clean. The fish and chip plate was crispy, light, and flakey. The salmon plate was perfectly done with a nice crisp on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside. When we went to pay, we were surprised how inexpensive it all was. I'm so glad we found a superb restaurant serving fish that is truly delicious. Take-out is teeming with customers and we can see why.

If your local for the best freshest sea food this place is a must . The calamari is actually fantastic not to chewy and lightly breaded . The octopus was a perfect appetizer not over salty like I many places . The owner son gave us friendly welcome and checked up on us a bunch . This place is must

I adore my first experience here. Great family environment with a perfect fried fish platter. The shrimp were just outstanding. Fresh fries and a crispy rice. I highly recommend it. Very appetizing and delicious.

Great food, weak service. It was the best fried red snapper I have eaten. First impression is confusion, it’s not clear do you seat yourself or where/how to order. Menu was elusive and food was late. This place could be five stars if they were better organized.

I have been searching for a tasty seafood restaurant in Montreal for many years. Finally, i discovered this restaurant in West Island. It is really amazing and not to miss. The shrimps are super yummy and the fish are really fresh and very tasty. My kids are very picky: they adored the food and they were very impressed by the octopus. Very clean, super tasty and excellent stuff. Will definitely come again and again.

Sea food lovers paradise! Everything is fresh and delicious. The salad is very tasty. Service too is warm and friendly. Sometimes orders can take too long but everything is prepared fresh so it’s worth the wait. The guy taking orders where the fish are selected is awesome! His suggestions are always spot on. Cannot wait to go back!

Hands down best cod fish and chips I ever had! ❤️ Better than in London and Melbourne!! They also have a delicious octopus salad. All the dishes we saw being brought to other tables were mouth watering. We will definitely go back.
