Racist, Rude, Tourist Trap - Hidden Tips and Card Lies. This restaurant DOES accept cards (they all do) but they will try to tell you that the machine is broken or that they don't take cards. This is a typical tourist rip-off trick in Austria - and they will especially try this on customers from Eastern European countries including Hungary. But when you speak to them in good German, they are readily able to take your card. They avoid cards because they hope to get more tips with cash. Also, be wary that the often try to get away with a hand-written receipt. Here, for tax avoidance purposes most likely. As many others have noted, they automatically add a 10% tip to your bill. You absolutely do not have to pay this. It is a hidden charge and you are within your rights to pay a tip based on service... which here is not good. There are possibly many better restaurants in the area... but honestly, instead of visiting Vienna, go somewhere nice - probably not in Austria - like Budapest, Zürich, Sarajevo, Bratislava...

This is old Viennese style restaurant. It is an actual celler with many departments. The food was fine, although the menu does not offer many dishes. NOTE that there are two types of Wiener Schnitzel and the one named Original is almost double the price. The staff was friendly but there was only one waitress working on too many tables so we had to wait long to be served. Also note that there is no phone reception and we did not find WiFi as well. The food is good here and the atmosphere is really authentic. The price is a bit "touristy".

Food was mediocre. Service was rushed, waiter barely had time for us and continuously complained when we tried to order. Plain rude. Atmosphere was decent. But nothing to write home about. Despite the mediocre experience they entered their own (undeserved) 10% tip. All in all not worth it.

This restaurant is excellent. The staff is very friendly and courteous, they seated us even though we did not have a reservation. The food and service was perfect. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant.

Great location and food! The basement ambiance is charming and the food was delicious. After having several Austrian restaurants during my stay I can firmly say this food was very good, but I have had better at other restaurants. I can still fully recommend this for dinner as the service and food were enjoyable!

Perfect place to eat the famous Wiener schnitzel, very nice staff and silent location near centre city. Chicken salad was also delicious. I would have liked to eat a soup vegetable, but I received a soup with pancake (noodles). The issue was that the Google translate took the menu as german, not dialect and wrongly translated the soup dish. All in all: good experience!

Excellent restaurant. We found it by pure luck, when we were fouling around to find a restaurant with some local food. An amazing "old cellar restaurant" and the atmosphere was lovely and the service was great. Our youngest son fell asleep before the food came, although the serving was quick... They wrapped the food in for takeaway and our son enjoyed the chicken when we got back to the hotell. We really recommend this restaurant!

Very tasty and typical dishes in a unique location, big portions and prices aligned with the average for this level of restaurants. Quite confused staff, I reserved a table but apparently my name was not on the list, but they gave me one anyway. Reservation recommended, always busy and crowded. It's worth tlit for the atmosphere and the price/quality ratio of the food

It's our third time in Vienna and in this restaurant as well. We like the food and that's why we return here. Nothing particularly but really tasty and feels like a traditional Austrian restaurant. Their prices are good for what you get The atmosphere is lovely and cozy This time the service was really slow ( we had to wait for 1 hour for our food to arrive) the waiter was so kind to explain us that they are understaffed in the kitchen. also when we entered there was no one to greet us and show us our table I understand that these days is hard to find stuff Other than that I would recommend to anyone who is in Vienna city center and I hope they can fix their service soon because this place is nice

A nice restaurant in an excellent location with covered outside seating Although the restaurant was busy the waiter led us to a table straight away and the beers we ordered came quickly The Goats cheese salad was huge and delicious and I would highly recommend the Wiener schnitzel A whole range of beers ,wines and soft drinks are available

Great atmosphere! The restaurant is underground and has many arches that give it quite a unique, traditional look. The food is pretty good. Not the best schnitzel we had in Vienna, but definitely a top contender.

Dog friendly and interesting old world atmosphere. Food was great especially the appetizer pretzel they bring you at the beginning of the meal. We could have just kept eating those and called it a night. I do recommend the Vegetable Strudel! The staff was very busy, so it was a bit difficult to get our waiters attention when they forgot something with our order, but overall really unique Vienna dining experience.

Stumbled upon this place and was so glad!! Literally best pork shnitzel of my life!! Our server was hilarious. It was a real Austrian vibe.

The place itself is great, typical underground “keller” vibe and very cozy. We also enjoyed the food, very rich and tasty (typical viennese cuisine). I can’t however say the same for the service. The waiter who served us was unwelcoming and almost made us feel as if we were imposing, as if we were disturbing. We didn’t come with a reservation and the place was packed, so maybe that was the reason for such unpleasant behavior. For the following reasons I would recommend booking a spot in advance…maybe that’s what it’s takes to be treated kindly…

A restaurant with history. The portions are huge and really delicious! A schnitzel, for example, comes with as a double-portion and is very tasty. Also, they don't have a clumsy menu, where you can get lost! As a bonus: you can scratch you name or a message on the wall or on the table for future generations :-)

Excellent food. Great service. Veal Schnitzel is a huge portion!

We waited over an hour for our food, which is not acceptable for a restaurant in Vienna. The waiter was certainly in a hurry, but he wasn't very nice to us. At checkout, he added a tip without telling us, and we saw him afterwards, unfortunately... Which ended our evening on a very bad note. It's a shame, because the setting and the food are fine.

This restaurant was the highlight of our trip to Vienna. Our server, Yorgen made us feel welcome and he even took his time to tell us about the rich history of this restaurant and gave us a quick tour of the cellar, one of the oldest in Vienna. Definitely worth a visit.

The restaurant is clean and tidy, the staff is friendly, the food is delicious. There is a special menu for each day at a great price for such a location. Also from 15 to 17 special price for beer. We liked everything.

Good restaurant located in a typical area. The service was not so good (waiters were not really welcoming) and the ambiance was a bit odd (no music). The schnitzel was good, albeit a little expensive

Very yummy and reasonably priced schnitzels. Tried both the pork and veal one and they were great. Portions are giant. Service could be improved, it didn’t feel too personal.

Best meal of our lives! Trully! From the goulash soup, to the salad, the main courses and the creamiest of creams cheesecake! Martin was the nicest host! If you visit Vienna Esterhazy keller should be definately in your list of choices!

Beautiful and cozy restaurant in historic underground in the very center of Vienna. Pleasant and fast service and very reasonable prices. The food is very tasty and very nicely served.

The place inside is really cool with a great atmosphere. The problem is that we didn't even get to have a drink because we waited 5 minutes before someone took us to our seats and after that no one would hand us a menu or asked what we wanted in more than 15 minutes. There were a lot of waiters but no one would care. Not recommended.

Food was solid, beer was good. What was weird was the receipt and additional tip. I was on the look out for the added tip based on other reviews. The weird part: our waiter gave us the receipt, told us we needed to meet him at the front to pay with card. He apologized that he only printed the receipt to be completed with a card. I refused. Handed him exact cash & change. Told him I needed to get rid of my euros. He kept telling me that I needed to pay with card. I told him I wasn’t going to and handed him the money and left. Put a very sour taste in my mouth. Fine restaurant. If you go, be weary of the tricks.

Great food and service with clean place and utensils. Taste of food considered moderate - neither bland nor saltish. Food was only as oily as necessary. Very clean WC. Only wish it is smoke-free inside the premise.

We saw the line at Cafe Central and decided to wander off and eat elsewhere, and stumbled upon Esterházykeller. It’s quite the experience, descending the steps into the cavernous cellar. Service was prompt, with attentive and charming fellas in lederhosen. The dunkel beer on tap was some of the best dunkel I’ve ever had. It was hard to only have two glasses. I had the farmer’s platter (or something to that effect) and it was.. well.. it was a lot of meat, but it was good. Very good. My girlfriend had Wiener schnitzel and it was large. Two pieces. Also very, very good. Overall, it was a touch on the expensive side but worth it.

Great typical Austrian restaurant. The cellar itself it is not yet open to the customers. Due to Covid, they are renovating the cellar, they are installing an elevator, a new ventilatiin system, etc. You can still eat inside on the groundflor. The service was excellent!

Ancient wine tavern under palace, serving hearty, classic Viennese cuisine in cozy rooms with walls handcrafted in 15th century. My favorite, what else? Everyone's favorite, the Viennese Schnitzel. It was tender and tasty. Serving was generous. I love the potato salad side dish too. Will be back for sure, next time I will bring my family here.
