I went this museum to see more Gustav Klimt's paintings in March 2019. It was so beautiful and breath taking. If you are a big fan of Klimt and you want to see more paintings from him, go here. If you are not big fan of Klimt, I recommend you to go to Belvedere Palace than this museum.

We have been there yesterday and I really enjoyed all of the exhibitions. It is not only about to see, but you can smell the exotic wood of old fashioned furniture at the place, because the visuality is not only the one sence which it takes from you, it is complex experience. Very recommending to all design lovers.

This museum is a masterpiece of art, hiding something interesting in every corner. I really enjoyed discovering all the nuances of art here, also because it is a meeting point for all artists. Between the interactivity and the exhibition everything was perfect! I recommend anyone who loves art to stop by here 🙌

Admission is free - just tell them at the ticket desk that you lost a bet. No seriously - that is the only way i’d go here again. The reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 is because the building is gorgeous.

Vienna has fantastic museums, and this one is no exception! The building itself is gorgeous and the exhibits are phenomenal if you're interested in historical furniture, textiles, lacemaking, glassware, and posters & advertisements. Lots of information available in many languages - be sure to grab a pamphlet at each exhibit entrance.

My favorite European museum! From its inception as a showcase for industrial art - to todays focus on objects of art in our everyday lives - I find the displays and temporary exhibits both interesting & and timely. Highly recommend! Excellent cafe & Musuem shop !

A most lovely museum indeed. It’s big enough for me the take a bite of Vienna in the novecento and the contemporary art, but at the same time it’s not too big to lose direction and focus. It’s a perfect company in a rainy day.

This museum has a wonderful mixture of applied Arts from different periods, and origins, but naturally, has an emphasis on Vienna. Remarkable collection of Hoffman's work! Beautiful furniture, decorative objects, and I saw at least one dress designed by him in 1901. The design lab has multiple exhibits, again with everyday objects (I found out that our IKEA spoon is a Museum piece, thank you very much!), a particular exhibit on Helmut Lang, and all kind of interning little tidbits. On the first floor, you can find the Wiener Werkstatt section, and you can buy the same stuff that Saturday at the Antiques market. It will cost you, though. But looking at that amazing design every day is priceless!

One of my favorite museums in the whole city. There's such a range of exhibits from the Rug Room, to the display all about sustainable living, to obviously classics like antique furniture. All housed in a beautiful building. Like most museums in Vienna it's a bit on the pricey side. Would say not suitable for children / children are unlikely to be interested.

This place is larger than I expected. I learned a lot while exploring it. My favorite part was the history of design projects that never succeeded. I bought the ticket online in advance, but I'd say that's not necessary, especially because their system didn't email my ticket and I had trouble finding the pdf file after I bought it. The two staff members working at the ticket counter were not very kind or helpful and they spoke very little English. At the time I visited, there was an exhibition on sustainable fashion and ethical production. Ironically, their design shop sells polyester clothing made in China. I also wish the Helmut Lang section had more stuff on display, considering they state how he gave away a lot of posessions to the museum. Anyway, I really look forward to visiting again when I'm back in Vienna. There are sections I didn't have time to visit the first time, so I think you definitely need to go more than once if you want to check everything out 🙂

PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH! should be written on a building's fasade. What on earth could happen to a plastic stool if a visitor would touch it? The museum teases its guests with a modern-ish open space exhibit placenment, but any attempt to look closer will be prosecuted by an alarm. And yes, you should wear a face mask being alone in a huge empty hall...

Interesting museum to check. I really like the building. But I wouldn’t go there for full price tickets. Luckily on Tuesday from 6 pm to 9 pm entrance ticket cost just 7€

But the dual MAK/Leopold Museum tickets. You don't have to go on the same day. The MAK is interesting but you have to like the various periods of design. The Austrian or more precisely the Vienna style was a local adaptation of the English Arts and Crafts movement a la William Morris. Other this depict baroque and Asian styles and the lower floors point to contemporary green-left ideas about living on top of each other, opening nothing, and never travelling unless you are part of the global virtue sunshine movement. Best case, you'll learn the 21st century ten commandments; wide car, you'll know your enemy. And it's an interesting building. Check out the exhibitions in the modern part at the back.

So much to see at this beautiful museum. Great exhibitions and thoughtful curation. I did find some of the spaces much too warm and stuffy. I appreciate the need to control humidity and temperature but one room was 28 degrees! This made for an uncomfortable visit to that space.

MAK is the most surprising museum. There is something to find for everyone, and they often have well thought-out exhibitions. The building itself is part of the charm, and do not forget to visit the Salonplafond!

The museum itself was pleasant, but the security staff were overly intrusive to the point of being bothersome. They loudly reminded us not to touch anything, even though our child hadn't touched any exhibits. The same occurred when we attempted to take a photo; they loudly mentioned we shouldn't use flash. Additionally, we were told not to drink water inside, even if it was very hot. The constant presence of security staff disrupted our experience, making us consider leaving early. The only positive aspects, earning it two stars, were the exceptionally clean restrooms and the entrance staff who kindly allowed my daughter to sit on an oversized couch. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know, and we left deeply disappointed.

If you’re interested in contemporary art you need to visit MAK. I recommend to get directions from the lady at the information desk. It takes time as she is very detailed but as you go through different areas you utilise the info. I found ceramic designs very interesting.

Erster Besuch im MAK: was interessantes Museum.

The museum is amazing! It is so big, with so many different sections and themes: from Baroque to technology. I love that it is very interactive and modern. Also, there is a bit of criticism about the contemporary world, too much use of plastic, textile, fast life, not enough of recycling. You can follow the exhibits with an audio from their website which you can scan with a phone along the way, so make sure you bring headphones with you. The interior of the main hall is stunning with lots of architectural details. The entrance ticket (16€ - reasonable price) is for the whole day so don’t worry if you get tired, you can always go out for a break or lunch and come back later. But definitely take the whole day for this museum, it is worth it!

I enjoyed this museum, especially the lower floor, the lab. I went on a Tuesday night, after 18 o'clock. It's a special price as well, only 7 euros instead of 15. There are also some works of Klimt.

The most peaceful museum in Vienna with many beautiful things to see. They perfectly manage visitors, with kindness, friendliness and smile on their faces. Right after the purchase of tickets they kindly explain the location of almost every single room and you can take a map with you. You definitely won't feel lost there and can experience the beauty of the whole building and MAK's exhibitions.

Nice place to spend a rainy afternoon. I found the 14 euro entrance fee much higher than it's value. There are no audio devices, and the few exhibits with QR codes to sound bites to hear with a smart phone were few and far between. The modern design exhibition in the basement was most worthy of my attention.

Such a wonderful museum. We went specifically to see the Women in the Wiener Werkstätte exhibition and were not disappointed. Beautiful building, interesting pieces, well presented and lit. Staff were also very friendly and helpful plus it has a great shop! If you are stuck for things to do on a rainy day, you can fill at least half of it here!

By far the best museum in Vienna. How everyday objects change the ways we live and interact in society.

Recommended for those who love design and arts. Indeed enjoyed the museum. I think it was a bit pricy for a museum. However, it’s not a surprise in Vienna.

The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts is an arts and crafts museum located at Stubenring 5 in Vienna's 1st district Innere Stadt. Besides its traditional orientation towards arts and crafts and design, the museum especially focuses on architecture and contemporary art.

Very interesting exhibits with something for everyone. Older and younger pieces that should attract older and younger visitors! Had a great exhibit on virtual media which was refreshingly interesting.

Vienna MAK, Museum of Applied Arts is hosted in an amazing huge building which is restored and in excellent condition with fabulous ceiling paintings. I was thrilled to see the Nine Cartoons for the Execution of a Frieze for the Dining Room of Stoclet House in Brussels by Gustav Klimt. There are many interesting excibitions however i got the feeling that each of the museum themes were partially presented and there are too many to be shown after all. Nevertheless it is a must to see for Vienna.

MAK is an excellent Museum of Applied Arts. They do an excellent job getting guest curators and artists to engage with the collection in inventive and dynamic ways to highlight various items & how they relate to each other. This makes the collection come alive, and it becomes much more interesting to experience, compared to the standard, more static, approach I see in many museums. One highlight was the stunning 1907 gesso panels, Seven Princesses by Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. You need to see it in person to appreciate its subtle beauty and impressive scope. Apparently, the Seven Princesses only survived WW1 because a curator hid the piece to keep it safe. The curator brought it down to the museum's basement, put the panels into three crates along the wall, then built a brick wall in front of them, which was painted to match the existing walls. They stayed hidden like this until they were discovered in 1990. Another highlight was an installation from Superflux called Invocation for Hope, which featured hundreds of dead trees burned from a forest fire that were installed around some live plants & moss around a 'pool'. When I visited, they also had a lot of environment & sustainability related projects on display -- there were some really interesting projects there. The building itself also has lovely architectural features.
