We were on the tourist trail through Vienna city centre when an overwhelming need for coffee and cake hit. Using Google Maps to find cafe's in the vicinity it identified the Dorotheum as only 50m away. Standing in front of the large and beautiful building there was no sign of a cafe but it did have Dorotheum in big letters over the entrance. So pressing on we found ourselves in a large gallery with an imposing stone staircase spiralling upwards. On the 2nd floor we spotted tables through a glass screen and entered an oasis of calm with a coffee bar at one end and a display of cakes at the other. Instantly a waiter was at hand guiding us through the mesmerising selection of coffees many of which had lashings of whipped cream floating on the surface. The strudel and layer cake were fine but not out of the ordinary. What makes this place special is it is quiet and refined and as a bonus you can look at art on the way out. If only the prices were a little less painful. Well worth searching for this place if you don't like crowds.

Like in a museum. This is my hidden paradise in Vienna. A small cafe with low prices and delicious coffee in an old house, where art objects for auction are exhibited. Enjoyment for body and soul! It is always quiet and peaceful here. there are no noisy tourists, only respectable locals. Delicious coffee, strudel, sacher, wine. And of course we bought a couple of figurines for our collection.

Lovely hidden gem. We sat in the balcony overlooking the Persian rugs. Coffee and cake were tasty.

Tasty cappuccino and cake, cosy in a nice vibe of an auction house but not pretentious or full of tourists (which we are 😂)

Excellent place. One of my favourite cafés in Vienna against stiff competition. Housed in a wonderful museum the cafe has a lovely cake selection, impressive interior and attentive staff. Would strongly recommend

Nice place in the gallery, very chic. We had a tea served in a rather big tea pot, which was nice. The spinach strudel and apple strudel were ok, even if the dough was softened... Somehow expensive in conclusion.

It's a fancy place but it's possible to try a dessert and coffee for 10€, which is fairly priced considering everything in Vienna is so pricey (for me at least). Had the Sachetorte which was good and half the price of other locations

It is a bit difficult to find since the first sign of "Cafe" only appears inside the building of Dorotheum, but an absolutely lovely place with great service. If you want to find peace and quiet at the heart of Vienna, plus explore some impressive architecture, do visit this place.

Lovely cafe - mainly coffee and drinks but a range of cakes and some savory food. Great atmosphere in an impressive gallery and auctionhouse. Only problem is I'm now tempted to buy some art!

Nice and peaceful setting. Reasonable products and prices. The cafe’ was seriously understaffed at the time of my visit: consequently, service was disappointingly slow.

The waitress was lovely. Had the apple strudel and the cheesecake. Both were meh at best. Despite the pleasent service, I have absolutely no idea how this place received such positive ratings. Consider this a fair warning.

(Translated by Google) An insider tip is the Dorotheum Café, as it is the Palais des Dorotheums. From the squares on the gallery you have a good overview of the next auction that will take place in the great hall. The main room of the cafe is cozy. The pastry selection is good and fresh, the double espresso strong and very good in taste. The prices are ok for the city center and adequate.

(Translated by Google) One of the least populated coffeehouse in Vienna. Located on the 2nd floor and is rarely found by tourists. And a ramble through the Dorotheum is perfect after a visit. (Translated by Google) A nice cafe that has been unchanged for many years. Coffee tastes good. Very good pastries - especially the currant foam cuts is highly recommended. The service is friendly and fast and the prices for the city center are rather cheap. The toilet is fine and probably freshly renovated. (Original) Ein seit vielen Jahren unverändert nettes Café. Kaffee schmeckt.

(Translated by Google) Beautifully situated small, fine café in the Dorotheum on the upper floor. Very friendly waiter. Nice selection of tea in addition to the well-known types of coffee. In addition excellent cakes and petit fours. If you like, you can use a screen on the ceiling to look at the things that will be on sale at one of the next auctions. Or better order a second piece of cake and enjoy. (Original) Wunderschön gelegenes kleines feines Café im Dorotheum im Obergeschoss. Sehr freundlicher Kellner.

We came with 8 people and sat at 2 tables. The staff though that we were 2 separate groups and came to out table fist. While ordering out of the 5 peope at our table only 2 of us wanted to order a coffee. Upon hearing the horrible crime they told us that this is a Cafe and we need to order, with a very condescending tone, this was enough to force shy female friend to order something to avoid any uncomfortable situation, also while we were odering one of us forgot what they wanted to order because of the longer than expected wait time and needed to look at the menu. In response, also with a very condescending tone, she told us to start the order. For some added context we were a group of 22 year old tourists from an other country, so we have never been to this kind of place before, but I still don't think that we deserved this kind of treatment. In the end we got a receipt where along with the 3 drink we ordered 2 other items were listed with a 0 Eur charge, which seemed a bit weird to me. At the other table all 3 people ordered something but only 2 people got their order brough out. It was an overall bad and confusing experience, where we felt that we were looked down upon and were made to feel like we must order something. Also the coffee which was almost 5 Euros was mediocre at best and a very small amount for that much money. This isn't a Starbucks to sell overpriced coffee.
