While the place looked really nice and it is always fun to look at butterflies, the price seemed a bit too steep for what we got. We were there for about 15 minutes which felt like enough time to see what there is to see. It was very crowded which made it hard to move around. If they charged around €3-5 and limited the number of people inside, I would probably have been more positive about the experience.

This is one of the best experiences I had, not just in Vienna - but anywhere. It was cheap (only 12€ for my dad and me), we paid at the door. It was right next to the Alberta where were just before. The butterflies were gorgeous. It was so peaceful to watch them flutter about. We sat on two of the chairs provided and just watched. One even came along and landed on my head, and everyone around me just filled with laughter and enjoyment. You 100% come out happier and feeling blissful. A truly wholesome experience.

An interesting place to visit in Vienna. It is quiet, beautiful, peaceful here. Lots of beautiful butterflies circling around you. The hall is very nicely decorated, there is a river with fish, a waterfall, many different types of flowers, you can climb a decorated rock and look at the park from above. I especially liked the "small restaurants" for butterflies, where they flock to eat. It was also interesting to see how butterflies develop in cocoons. If you want to visit the House of Butterflies, do not forget that it is quite humid there. And after visiting, you can buy a souvenir in the shop.

”Do not touch the butterflies” it says. But I haven't yet found the place where people do as they're told. Some of us can still admire the butterflies and actually not pinch at their wings. One should have to be considerate towards nature to be allowed the visit. Much appreciation for the staff who is putting it all together. Very crowded place. With humans, not butterflies.

Nice attraction, especially during the cold weather. It was nice seeing all the butterflies and feel the tropical rainforest weather for a bit. Note that the place isn't big so the visit itself doesn't take too long. There are restrooms inside. Nice to visit if you have the time or if you want a break from the freezing cold outside but not a must in our option.

I'm so glad we found this place as it's the perfect activity to do in Vienna if you only have a few hours to visit and don't want to be bothered with huge lines and boring museums. It's basically a tropical forest in a greenhouse and there's quite a few butterflies lying around although many prefer to lie on the wall or the metal structure of the building. There's also a toilet, a shop and a video room where you can learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly.

Breath-taking home of butterflies and tropical vegetation. It is extremely relaxing to observe butterflies going around their business. If you are observant enough, you may even find butterfly eggs and larvae. Prepare for high humidity, also some cameras don’t take the climate too well. The shop is full of cute butterfly merch; you can also buy seeds of some exotic plants. The toilets are clean. There are also hangers for clothes and although the staff are not responsible for any personal item losses, quite a lot of people left their coats there and nothing bad came out of it. Great opportunity for pictures and great memories.

Loved it. Very crowded for such a small space, and a bit too humid and hot if going on a hot day. Seeing the beautiful view and butterflies is another level of joy and amazement. Recommend this👍

A great place to visit if you love butterflies and plants. The Schmetterlinghaus isn't as big as you might think and for that reason, the price could be a bit lower. Still a great place for a short rest from the urban environment. Would recommend.

Although I did enjoy the stay, I must say the whole experience could’ve been better. Firsťy, I think it would be a good idea to control how many people are in and not just sell one ticket after another without regulation, it gets very crowded inside then. Secondly, I know butterflies live just for a couple of days and it is a circle of life, but it seems a bit strange seeing not so few dead butterflies lying around. The whole place seems to be targeted to gain the maximum profit without effort. I just feel that if the place would be run with a little more heart the experience might be better.

We visited mid-day on a Friday in late March and loved it!! It was actually the highlight of my day!! 🦋🥰 Now reading the reviews that have been posted in the last few hours, i would say: 1. Guess i was lucky to go on a Friday because it was not crowded at all. 2. Yes, it's a bit small, but I would assume it's easier to keep the butterflies together that way. 3. I dont think the entrance fee was too much. I guess cause I was able to enjoy the many types of butterflies. 4. I also saw some people touching the butterflies, which made me mad! There are signs everywhere! I took closer pics, zooming my phone. I wouldn't dare touch any of those little angels. Like I said, I truly enjoyed it. Even bought a shirt!! Would love to come back if I'm back in Vienna.

A little small. Expect about a 30 minute attention span for small children after the first loop and they've seen a number of the butterflies. Has a center tree tower that leads to an observation area over the area where you can also see little flocks of playful butterflies. It's a little warm inside, but we went in early July and it didn't feel that much different from the heat outside.

The absolute best place to visit in Wien! They have so many butterflies that you can see right on your hand! It's perfect for all people, but the kids will be the happiest!

Nice little tropical oasis in the middle of the city! We loved every minute and the admission price is very reasonable. Be ready to take plenty of pics, there's butterflies everywhere! 🦋❤️

A quick note. We visited the butterfly preserve on one of the hottest days this summer in Vienna, and the preserve itself is warm and humid, so that's probably why I have 3 instead of 4 stars. Tons of butterflies, and a beautiful layout makes it interesting to go see. Kids will love it. It's a little crowded, and not huge, so that does detract from the overall experience.

Cute place to spend half an hour. It’s a cheap attraction. Warm inside, so recommend leaving jackets etc at the free cloakroom provided. Plenty of butterflies inside, it’s nice to just sit and relax as there are some chairs dotted around the interior. Very aesthetically pleasing and perfect for taking photos!

The place is really small for the amount of people who were there, is a shame they got plastic flowers with honey for butterflies. The place is really nice but it needs to be managed differently in order that it doesn't stay so crowded that's the only reason I don't give more ⭐⭐.

Such a lovely greenhouse! The butterflies are all over the place, and it surely makes for a great experience. My only issue is that they let in too many people which makes it difficult to walk/look around/ see things. It’s not that big, but it’d still recommend visiting & it’s worth the price imo^^

Beautiful place with beautiful butterflies!! The butterflies are so pretty and cute, they’re flying all over the place and it looks magical!! It’s kind of hot but also humid inside so make sure to not wear too much warm clothes. It may be a little crowded cause there’s not that much place but the butterflies are everywhere you can even see them emerge from the cocoon!! Also a lot of beautiful and real plants!! Definitely recommend!!🤍🦋

Unique butterflies house. Average time for this attraction: 15-20 minutes. It's very hot and airless, because the butterflies environment demands.

Lovely butterfly garden/greenhouse. Lots of gorgeous butterflies flying around and lots of cocoons on display! If is a smaller space, so it gets crammed at times, i do wish they’d limit the number of guests inside for the butterflies’ sake, but overall people didn’t seem to spend too long in there due to the warm and humid climate.

The butterflies were pretty nice but the average experience is slightly below the standard of simmilar venues, for ex. in Greece. This place was really crowded and the film next door was only in German, no English subtitles. Overall pretty decent but not a must-see.

Decent botanical garden and butterfly sanctuary. Quite warm when you walk in, but there is a large coat rack available for free. This place may make you feel cramped as the space is tight with not much movement. I got lucky and had a butterfly land on me, and as soon as I turned around a line of 6 people were right behind me. All-in-all it’s a good place to pass the time, but not for more than 45 minutes.

Butterflies have a way of transforming your day into a brighter one! This is a smaller arboretum which is very suitable for small children and directly on their scale with mini waterfalls, bridges, and bright tropical flowers. Oh, and leave your sweater at the door. It's a tropical paradise indoors and it has tropical weather. The price is on the high side $10.00 for adults given the mini venue, but it's easy to balanced out the budget with a free day in the connecting City Parks. I highly recommend planning a picnic that the kids prepare, and make some butterfly wings with them before you go for their picnic. Surprise them with a visit to the little butterfly glass house. After your visit, find another nice spot in the park by a musician and encourage your little butterflies to dance to the music. They will remember that special day with you for a lifetime🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 !

4 stars as max. Many say building is small. But I would rather say that we left with a feeling "poor butterflies". Many dead, at least they could pick them up... But several big and nice butterflies get place up to 4 stars rating.

Well worth the €7 entry, although they could have handled the flow of visitors a little better as the paths were small and no one wore their mask. A group of students blocked the entire chrysalis tank for quite a while, too. Nevertheless, I really couldn't fault it. The butterflies are plentiful and even sometimes friendly. I second what another reviewer said about the humidity

For the price you pay (7€) it could be a bit bigger but it was a nice experience overall. The butterflies are stunning, it's just sad that some people can't read signs to understand that is not supposed to touch them.

It was a cool little extension of our time in Vienna, but probably wouldn’t go back. It was so crowded + hard to walk through the butterfly garden without feeling rushed + cramped (especially with a stroller - would not recommend). The garden itself was a gorgeous tropical oasis in the midst of coldddd weather outside. Most of the butterflies were not super visible, tucked behind the foliage + creeping towards the corners of the greenhouse.

Enjoyed our visit to the Schmetterlinghaus - a little overcrowded (not sure why they let quite so many people in at once) and possibly a little overpriced for what it is, but still a unique experience to see massive and beautiful butterflies in a almost tropical space, in the middle of mid-winter Vienna.

  • 2/5 Kärol-Milaine J. 4 months ago on Google • 13 reviews
It’s very beautiful but very small place. You will not spend more than ~15 minutes there. You will maybe see around 5 butterflys in total. Most of them are hiding or with broken wings. So many youngsters trying to touch them and forcing them onto their fingers for a picture. Not really worth the visit sadly.

  • 5/5 Rastislav P. 8 months ago on Google
If you come in summer, it's suicide in terms of heat. Not only did I collapse, but probably the butterflies did too. :D Small space but 100% used. Beautiful butterflies, flowers and plants. The people here are worse than animals. They forcefully catch butterflies, rob them. It's sad.

  • 3/5 Amber W. 10 months ago on Google
The price was a bit high for a rather small area. That being said the inside is beautiful as are the many butterflies inside! This would probably take no longer then 20-30 minutes and tickets can be bought at the entry.

  • 4/5 Danny D. 1 year ago on Google
The price of the tickets is steep for the size of the actual experience, however it is still a very pleasant place to visit. Plenty of butterflies, if not a particularly large variety, but some lovely fauna and a pleasant route. Plenty of photo opportunities, so worth a visit if you want a short, pleasant experience.

Very unique experience. Mesmerizing butterflies, nice trees. A nice place to take pictures. We bought our tickets at the counter and there was no waiting time.

Beautiful little gem in Vienna! The butterfly house was a small but very wealthy in butterfly species and different types of tropical plants. Since the butterflies are all tropical the temperature is higher and its a bit more humid, just something to keep in mind. Cute and affordable souvenirs and the staff was friendly! 10/10 reccomend

Small but good. Try to go when it is not too busy as it is small. The setup is very good and the butterflies are beautiful. There is also a very nice bar next door with a beautiful terrace for when the weather is nice.

  • 4/5 Pola M. 2 years ago on Google
If you are a fan of nature you should visit Butterfly House for sure! Butterflies who lives here are colorful and beautiful! The only disadvantage is that the place is rather small so don’t plan more than 15-20 min to spend here

  • 5/5 Nat 2 years ago on Google
Like most of people already mentioned, it is a very charming and cute place. The butterflies there are just gorgeous. I loved it!

  • 5/5 Kmlon K. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful place to visit with all kind of butterflies. The feeling is like you are in a big forest and the only thing you can hear are birds and water falls. All over the place they have fruit plates, after I grab a grape the butterflies come to it. Definietly a once in a life time experience.

  • 4/5 Megan 2 years ago on Google
A little gem in the middle of the city. Definitely worth a visit, but I do not recommend going when it’s hot out because it’s super hot and humid inside the glasshouse.

  • 5/5 Daria Y. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing! You can't spend a lot of time there though, cause it's really humid and hot (for obvious reasons)

  • 3/5 Amnon B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice small space with even a smaller variety of butterflies. They do spray water with honey on plastic plants to attract them - which I find pretty disappointing. Better use real flowers or fruits

  • 4/5 Andreea-Ioana S. 2 years ago on Google
It is a really nice place to visit with a lot of butterflies to see. The 4 stars are for the 7 eur we paid, the building being really small.

Unique brasserie if you fancy having a meal amidst palms and a tropical feel, in the middle of winter! Atmosphere is second to none and staff are very kind. Very good selection for breakfast too, thumbs up!

It was a nice way to spend 45 minutes or so. My partner and I are plant obsessed and spend just as much time enjoying the beautiful tropical plants as we did admiring the butterflies. It wasn't super busy so we could really take our time.

  • 5/5 Kaden Smith (. 2 years ago on Google
It was pretty cool, I would definitely watch were I'm walking in here as a lot of the butterflies are on the ground. It only took about 10-15 minutes to walk through.

wonderful experience to be so up and close with all these amazing creatures. however, the butterfly house is very small, very crowded with visitors and as lovely as it is, you will be through with it after half an hour tops.

  • 4/5 Jost 2 years ago on Google
Small and pretty crowded butterfly house. Hard to spend more than 30-45 minutes inside without seeing it all multiple times. Also be nice to the butterflies, Saw lots of people being rough with them and being just obnoxious. Saw lots of kids grabbing them aswell and it made me sad :( But I suppose its worth the price.

  • 5/5 Anna H. 1 year ago on Google
A lovely tropical oasis filled with vegetation, a small waterfall/pool and beautifully colorful butterflies. Not too large, yet charming. Some of the vegetation is plastic sprayed with honey. Butterflies didn't seem to mind, so neither did we. Please note - VERY HOT AND QUITE HUMID, dress accordingly.

  • 5/5 Lucy B. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely place to escape the cold of winter, good price for a quick 30 minute to an hour visit with beautiful butterflies and plants. Super warm inside which may not be a bonus during summer but definitely was during winter time! would recommend
