Very peaceful. Keep your eyes open while walking to and from your vehicle. I noticed a couple of people staring at my wife and I. Just be aware of your surroundings. Otherwise, it's beautiful and quiet.

I love the walking trails and the newer workout equipment that's been installed. I'm glad that the playground has been updated and I love that they have modern bathrooms. It's a beautiful park to go enjoy the day cooking out and enjoying nature with the family, fish, read a book, watch the wildlife and enjoy some peace. There's no swimming in the park anymore since the beach was removed and they no longer have life guards. They also have a campground that I've personally enjoyed with a modern bath house. I would've given 5 stars except that the public playground isn't suitable for children under 4-5 years old in my personal opinion. The campground was still closed at this visit so I can't review the small playground inside the campground. Last year when I went camping the small playground was closed off and it desperately needed some TLC. I want to camp there again this summer and have small grandchildren so I'm hopeful that they updated this playground as well.

My husband and I always enjoy camping at Hawthorn. The camp host Bill and Becky are wonderful. They go above and beyond especially this year. I notice they are doing a lot more including but not limited to making sure bathrooms are nice and clean. Not so sure the other staff here is pulling their weight and Bill and Becky are working overtime due to this!

This park is beautiful. It allows you to "get away" from everything even if is just enough time for a bike ride. Well worth the time to relax in nature.

Lots and lots of trees in the campground, so don't plan to use solar or satellite here, and you won't need your awning. Larger rigs may have difficulty navigating the tight roads with so many trees. The shower house has hot water, but weren't clean. The men's showers had no doors. The sites seem to be level. Water spigots are hit and miss in being near the sites. Electric is solid. It is very quiet. It's a place off the beaten path to get away. There is a dump station. Mind the gate hours - it is locked after hours. There is no camp store, but there are a lot of stores nearby on 46.

We were there for a very brief drive through, but we liked what we saw. There were lovely views of and paths around the lake, tons of shade under the trees, tons of parking, places to picnic, a nice playground with a Little Free Library (aka. LFL, aka. book box) by it, open fields for playing Frisbee or ball (or having mock battles, as some other visitors were doing that day), a labyrinth to walk through, a public beach for swimming, a camping area (we didn't go into that part), a boat ramp, and plentiful bathrooms (the one we used was spacious and very clean for a park bathroom). I'd definitely go back, hopefully the next visit with time to walk around one of the lakes.

The park is wonderful for hiking with the dog and kids. Great trails and an awesome wetland area where you can see all types of animals. The campground on the other hand seems likes a breeding ground for junkies.

SMH have to buy all of your firewood from the guard shack prices are crazy and sure seems pretty self serving policy. Bathrooms full and nasty need dipped badly

  • 5/5 Matthew M. 2 years ago on Google
The trail! The lake! So beautiful! Beyond expectations. There are places on the trail that are so surrounded by trees it feels ~10 degrees cooler.

  • 4/5 Alisha Livingston C. 1 year ago on Google
A nice park for walking or jogging trails. The playground is very shady, so it's perfect for super sunny days. However, because they use mulch and there's such nice tree cover, there can be more ticks than some other parks. Perhaps use bug spray and enjoy that excellent park!

We love to take walks with our dog thru this park. We walk the paved path because of physical issues; it's not too long and not too challenging physically. Love the shade and serenity of the woods: it's taken care of very well .

A beautiful park with a lake, a wetland, an outdoor gym, archery range, camping, and hiking trails. One of the hidden gems in Vigo County.

  • 5/5 Bill K. 1 year ago on Google
Camp here all the time. Our favorite place in the area. Helpful staff. Quiet most of the time. And clean.really enjoy the trails

  • 4/5 Jasper G. 11 months ago on Google
Drive from home not bad, camping area is good for a smaller park. They had tent areas as well as some rv areas. Sites were good for experienced rv, would be a problem with people who aren't to experienced in maneuvering a rig in a tighter area or backing in. There is a few pull thru sights, but I think you would have to disconnect trailer once you're in the spot because of site length.

  • 3/5 Gary M. 1 year ago on Google
There was 50 amp & water close by in a pull-through site BUT the place is not good for big rigs. Getting my 40 foot motor home in & out was tricky. We won't do it again. The place could use a healthy dose of TLC.

Great playground for kids with large fields nearby to kick around a ball. We also like the shaded walking trails.

My go to park, always quiet and taken care of. Trails are cleared after storms and looks good !

A hidden gem of Terre Haute! I found a little swing that sits underneath a small canopy of trees. It's like my secret place to escape the everyday travails of the world. I don't want to give much away bc I want to keep this spot just for me! 😋 Right next to JI Case wildlife reservoir that has a circumferential track that goes around it. I hardly ever see people in either of these public spots - I feel like if more people knew about them, there would be much more foot-traffic. But the selfish part of me is okay with them remaining just as they are, so they can remain my private sanctuary.

make sure you go in the summer cause that's when they have the lake open for swimming and the park is actually enjoyable

I love camping in this park! The campgrounds are spaced out well and under lots of trees. It could use more playground equipment on this side of the park, and with the walking/biking trail at the back entrance makes it one of the easier county parks to get to from in town. With this said, It really needs to be a swimming hole again. We don't have to have a shower house, as I understand it was being vandalized, but this park really hasn't had much money spent toward it like Fowler has...which I hate Fowlers campsites.....Suggestion...they should make a paved connection path from the back of the campgrounds to the pavement path that leads to the back entrance. Right now you can only go from end to end and turn around and go back. I'd love a continuous circuit for speed bikes....as of now, other than road and the back trail, all other trails are marked as no bikes. But all in all, for camping and location close to things, this park is great, but could be even better if money was spent on it better.
