Mehatar Mahal one of the significant monuments of Bijapur though insignificant of it's size it's a miniature palace. The uniqueness of this monument is it was built by one of the trusted loyal sweepers of the sultan Ibrahim Adilshah in year 1620. The sultan had rewarded around 1500 golden coins to his servant to show his gratitude towards the sultan the sweeper had built the palace known as mehatar Mahal literally palace of the sweepers. It is a three stroried structure with delicate floral carvings the facade has three arches ' beautiful designed minarets .A small mosque is built right behind the monument.it is also a part of it . The stairs leading to the upper stories are beautifully designed each storie has a awesomely designed balcony on the front side one can get a fantastic view of old Bijapur city from the gallery of the Mahal.Right now there's a renovation work going on undertaken by Archeological survey of India . This monument is a worth visit. It reflects the Golden era of Ibrahim Adilshah 2 s reign.

It has a good architecture but currently not open to public as support is being carried out. The entrance is quite shabby which is shocking considering that it is under the list of protected monuments and there is no parking space available.

    (Translated by Google) Mehtar Mahal in Bijapur Photograph of the tallest architecture. The gateway has three storeys, two side windows with two narrow minarets. The stone balustrade is carved with floral motifs. This photograph is one of a series used to describe the 1866 publication on the architecture of Bijapur. The city is known for its historic buildings, one of the finest examples of the Mehtar Mahal Gateway in the early 17th century.

Nice architecture, it is said that the sultan has allowed the Mehta community to build a monument. It has some amazing architecture. The building g needs some maintenance, currently being used as a prayer place.

Located in Bijapur, Mehtar Mahal is the ornamental gateway leading to a mosque and a garden. Meaning a 'Sweeper's Palace', this gateway has a flat stone roof supported by stone brackets of delicately carved birds and rows of swans. This highly decorative gateway is supposed to have been built by a sweeper to whom Ibrahim Adil Shah gifted a huge sum of money on the advice of a soothsayer, so that he could recover from leprosy.Though modestly sized, Mehtar Mahal dated to 1620 is one of the most elegant structures in the fort; the entry gate in particular has been built in Indo-Saracenic style. The façade has three arches, which depict exquisite “cornice supported on carved corbels”. A gateway leads to the Mehtar mosque, which is a three-storey building. It has two slender minarets that are covered with delicately carved birds and rows of swans.Meaning a 'Sweeper's Palace', this gateway has a flat stone roof supported by stone brackets of delicately carved birds and rows of swans. ... Situated inside the premises of the Bijapur Fort, Mehtar Mahal dates back to the 1620 and is known to be the most elegant structure within the fort. Built in the Indo-Sarcenic style, the carvings on the minarets are in the Hindu architectural style.

It is a small historical masjid(mosque). For it size it has been built quite beautifully. If you have time you could add it to your itenary. If you plan to take a walking tour try to get inside to appreciate the full beauty. You may wish to check out the pictures to appreciate the beautiful carving the place has. No entry fee given it is a mosque.

The whole of the structure has been taken over by the local people so not much is left of it. It would have been very good in the past as the architecture is amazing of whatever is left of the original structure.
