If you come here, let yourself to be amazed of the buikfing beauty. It is Lithuanian noble family Chodkiewicz estate. Formed in the Gothic and Renaissance, today building is late Classical. And lots of Lithuanian famous people are connected to that building history. So, look around and come in. :)

The gallery is hosted on an old palace of a noble family of the past. Most exhibits are from local or Polish artists. It is quite interesting, if you like this kind of exhibitions. You need 1 hour or more to tour yourself around.

Very special exhibitions dedicated of Lithuanian artists throughout the twenty century. The building itself is the witness of the history. However, the exhibition further reveals how the nationalism and people of Lithuanian affected by the changes in the modern era.

However the paintings are positioned opposite windows and on a sunny day it had a terrible glare, as well as all staff are weari g flip-flops and make awful distracting noises. For god sake it's art gallery not a beach..

(Translated by Google) Chodkevičius Palace is a building of late classicism forms, formed during the Gothic and Renaissance periods, with valuable fragments of Empire interior decoration. Since 1940, a number of Vilnius University employees have lived in the palace. The palace is three-storey, only the official two-storey. The premises of the palace are accessed from the courtyard, to several - from Didšosios Street. On the side of the main street, Gothic cellars, partly reconstructed during the Renaissance, have survived. The north-western wall of the corps is also Gothic. Foundations of stones, walls of brick masonry, plastered. The basements, the western entrance and the ground floor of the western building have cylindrical and cross vaults. The façade of the office courtyard is in the style of late classicism, symmetrical. In the middle part there is a portico of four Doric columns (this is rare in Vilnius). In the place of the palace already in the 16th century. stood the house. For more than three centuries since the 16th century. end of the 19th century. At least eight generations of the Chodkevičius family lived in the palace at the beginning of the 19th century (Chodkevičiai is a family of nobles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of Russian origin, one of the richest and most influential families of nobles since the middle of the 16th century, competing with the Radvils). 19th century In the first half of the 19th century, after reconstruction, the palace became one of the largest and most ornate residences in Vilnius. Since then, they have changed little, the Chodkevičius Palace has been restored several times and today it is one of the most stylish ensembles of late classicism in Vilnius and throughout Lithuania. Since 1994 Vilnius Picture Gallery is located in this building. It presents visitors with works of Lithuanian art, sculpture and graphics and their development from the 16th to the 19th century. The center organizes cultural events, excursions, and other activities that introduce the world of art in non-traditional ways. On the first floor of the gallery there are toilets, a cloakroom, a souvenir kiosk and a cash register. The expositions are located on the second and third floors of the building. It consists of historical interiors (6 introductory halls) and 17 exhibition halls, presenting the 16th-20th centuries. early Lithuanian art. Rūmų vietoje jau XVI a. stovėjo namas.

(Translated by Google) A small and pretty museum. Very nice house and great setting. The museum is touring fast as there is little to see. The exhibition itself is mainly just portraits of room after room in former Lithuanian eyewear. To the foreigner, who does not know the exact history of Lithuania, these pictures tell almost nothing. There is little other exhibit material. Overall picture: nice but boring. (Original) Pieni ja sievä museo. Erittäin kaunis talo ja hienot puitteet. Museon kiertää nopeasti, koska näytettävää on aika vähän. Muuta näyttelyesineistöä on vähän. Kokonaiskuva: kiva, mutta tylsähkö.
