There isn’t much to add to what other people have said, but we truly had an amazing time at Asahi from the moment we walked in. Kimberly was truly such a gem. She anticipated our needs, like extra kimchi, and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was so good and provided the home cooked experience for my Korean American husband that he doesn’t get as often as he would like. We are excited to return!

I've been meaning to try this place but everytime I get the chance, they're either closed or about to close. Thankfully, we had enough time to spare and decided to finally try this restaurant. I'm not sure if this is still a Karaoke bar since I didn't see any part that makes it one. But today, when we went, I was underwhelmed at the limited menu at first. Eitherway, they had the soondubu jigae I usually order at different Korean restaurants so that was nice. It was not on the menu but Kimberly mentioned that it was also available. My wife and my friend tried the short rib soup that was also mentioned but not on the menu. Overall, we had a GREAT time. Kimberly is an awesome hostess! The food was also really delicious! We are already planning on coming back!!! We felt really spoiled in this restaurant. This really was a hidden gem! To note: my wife was actually feeling down but the food and Kimberly's superb, cheerful service lightened her up. Thank you!

Dining alone? Intimate date night? Amazing food? Here. This is the place to go. The menu is smaller (thank you pandemic) but the food is on point!! There's fewer options but the food I chose was comforting. The only 2 people working were Kimberly (in the front) and her mother (in the kitchen) so if there is a rush, please be patient. You will not be disappointment in the food. They also serve alcohol.

I've been going here with my wife since 2018. The owner and main waitress are super nice. I have never gone here and not felt like I was eating at some wholesome distant relatives house just serving me the best they have to offer. They are courteous, and provide you anything even if it's not in the menu. I can't believe seeing anyone giving this place a 1 star. If the entire review section is 5 stars and you're one of the 3 negative reviews, you're the one who's wrong. The menu has decreased in size but this only signifies that they concentrate on these individual dishes even more so making them delicious. I always get free drinks to go and an extra desert every time. The people at Asahi really remember you and call you by your first name. I may have not been to Korea but this is some of my favorite Korean food places ever! So if you like quaint and traditional food with probably one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had... and I always have a great time there. I've been there dozens of times and plan on going even more. No other Korean restaurants compare. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

If Asahi had only one item on the menu and it was liver and onions (I hate liver and onions) I would still go and eat there. Ms. Kimberly and her mom are outright the best restaurateurs around. They ask about allergies and will answer any questions about Korean food you might have. They know how to make a customer feel like part of the family!

family owned/ run small place. The most authentic Korean food you can get in VA Beach/ Hampton Area. Service is a little slow as the whole place is run by family and good are cooked to order. it is worth the wait.

The first time we visited Virginia Beach together a couple of months ago we tried this little place. We were only there for four nights but we had to go back for a second meal because it was so good! The owner Sunny, is super personable and determined to make you happy which is not difficult for her to do. The food is amazing, super fresh ingredients and perfectly prepared. My favorite is the fish stew in hot pot. My husband has some food allergies and restrictions but she managed to work around that and he also was super happy with his meal. All the condiments are very fresh and all the flavors and everything very authentic. Last week I was in Virginia Beach again with a girlfriend. We went straight there the first night. Sunny was her usual charming warm and welcoming self even though very busy with such a small staff of two including her. If there’s a third person we never saw them. We shared the fish stew and some other items along with the condiments. My friend who also has all kinds of food sensitivities was tremendously impressed. This is the real deal folks! We will be back. (Traveling from Chapel Hill, North Carolina)

AMAZING!!! A must go spot! Everything was delicious!!! Small menu, but that only made each dish better. You can tell everything is made to order, fresh and hot when it arrives to you. And service was just the best I have ever had anywhere, so nice and always checking up making sure everyone was doing good. Don’t live here anymore but it’s on my list of must go back to when in town. You need to go and check this spot out and support this amazing small spot!

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt the need to for Asahi today. I’ve been here two other times with some friends which I should’ve written a review before but today I brought my dad to try it out and so I finally decided to write my review! We were welcomed in by Kimberly and she is just so awesome! My dad is not all too comfortable venturing out to try different restaurants and such but I just so happened to convince him to try out Asahi here and he absolutely loved it. Kimberly was so accommodating and informative on the dishes and my dad was trying out all these different kinds of things which he loved! Every time I’ve been here I felt so welcomed as if I was a part of the family and every time I come here I am always left with a positive experience with laughs and being full! The hot stone bowl is my go to but I might venture out to try more dishes, I will definitely be back and I’m so thankful for Kimberly’s service and being so helpful to us as we dined. Thank you again!

Kimberly was amazing! For a friend and I to both eat. We got appetizers, main course and desert for under 40 in total. The food was amazing. My friend is undecided on if they like Korean food. However, they said that they would happily come back again! Kimberly made us feel like family. Her warm genuine, friendly energy wore off on us. I will deffently make this my go to comfort food.

We could not be more pleased with the service, food, atmosphere and prices. We got the Hot Stone Bibimbap, Kimchi Jjigae and Steamed Dumplings. The complementary tea was plentiful and delicious, we enjoyed it so much we were sent home with some. Every last item was delicious and extremely filling. The portions were big enough for my husband and I to share and soup to take home.

Best dining experience I have ever had! Food is outstanding, but the service is even better. After traveling and dining all over the world, this unassuming spot will have my girlfriend and I coming back every single time. Literally the sweetest, most attentive and kind server we have ever had, while her mom was in the back cooking us phenomenal authentic Korean food. Can’t say enough great things about this place! Would recommend to everyone and anyone.

I rarely give 5 stars but this place was amazing. The food was great. We had the Hot Stone Bibimbap and Fish Soup. Both were as good as (or better than) anything I've ever had in Korea. I think the banchan, soy sauce, and chilli paste are made in house. The lady helping us could not have been more friendly. A very nice experience. I can't wait to go back with more friends. Pic doesn't do it justice.

Outstanding service! Came in on a very hot and humid evening for a quick meal. I was greeted and served by the owner who made sure I had everything I needee: cold punch, barley tea, water, and side dishes. Food was as good as always. I appreciated the small selection that made it easy to pick.

Delicious authentic Korean food! The restaurant has a warm family feeling. We were definitely taken care of like family. Love all the side dishes! The service was beyond amazing!

Absolutely. Amazing. Best customer service I have probably ever had. Food was delicious, in great proportions, and satisfying. Location was very clean and warming. If you are dissuaded by the exterior, don’t be. Go in. Enjoy. Thank me later. Only drawback is it’s a little small and the menu is slightly limited. Best for groups of 4 or less and folks who want staple Korean-American food without the fluff.
