👍👍 I have been to Virginia City many times, and only have been here once! It was a cute little place with a lot of cool things to look at. If you are a penny collector like my kids, this would be the place to go get that penny flattened! People often mention museum,

Amazing place to visit. Especially during a long roadtrip. Get out and stretch as you walk through the old part of Virginia city. Just. Incredible.

A fun, quirky little museum in historic Virginia City, MT. The museum isn’t very large but is full of all kinds of historical memorabilia related to the history of the area. I particularly liked the information on the dredges that were used in the area after all of the easy gold had been found and most miners had taken off for greener pastures nearer Bozeman. I had no idea previously how they functioned or what they actually did to the landscape through which they worked. Some people might be attracted to this museum to see the replica of Club Foot George’s foot or the petrified cat — oddities from the area but I found the historical artifacts and information of more interest during my visit. The volunteers that work here are always good to chat with as well and can tell you all kinds of information about the area that as a visitor you probably wouldn’t find out about any other way.

Absolutely loved it!! We spent at least an hour here and got to see an array of history! The gentleman at the counter came around and talked with the kids about even more history of the pieces that were displayed. Very glad we went!!

Lovely little museum, worth the time to pop in and peruse the cabinets of minerals, old tools, and historic artifacts. It does run off donation and doesn't have as much to offer as others, but it is jam packed. You could easily spend an hour in here if you read the information, pay attention, and ingest all the history presented. There are also books and brochures available for the inquiring visitor. Give it a look! Worth it if you're here during open hours. Would visit again.

As it won't let me review the whole city I thought it was best to add it to the museum review! A lovely mining town, which in the main has been restored to model it's original design. A lot of the shops have plaques describing the building and a showroom so to speak showing how it used to look inside. It's a little touristy in comparison to the nearby Nevada City but nevertheless an excellent location to visit!

This is where you can see a replica of Clubfoot George's foot, use the penny smashing machine that you crank by hand, and so much more. It is run by very knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to answer questions and tell you about other things you might have missed. You'll be amazed at how much there is to see in this small-ish, free museum.

👍👍 Great tour! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was super friendly. Lots of antiques to look at. The mine it self is great as well. Some parts were a little wet so be sure not to wear your really nice shoes. Original Timbers are still in place inside the mine. Your guide’s wife even wrote a bo...
